Summary

Multiplayer Active Sessions not showing

Description

For some time now, the screen for the multiplayer active sessions take lots of time to show something, if at all. I get some errors like 'an internal error has occured' which is normal for the last months. We could play with this error though. Now 2 out of three times I don't even see my three sessions I am playing in.

The games we play are still pre empire & ashes generated sessions if this is interesting. One of the games just had to be reset because a combat won't start, initiated by the npcs. I own the expansion pass (which does not show on the upper right. There it shows Dragon Dawn and Empire & Ashes are owned but for the pass it states: now available...)

Steps to reproduce

Open the game and then Online-Multiplayer

Platform

Steam

Game Version

1.005.006.87265

Owned DLCs

  • Dragon Dawn
  • Empires and Ashes

Optional

Affected Feature

  • Multiplayer

Hey advo from Future, the previously requested information that we would like to receive are game logs. You can find them by going to \Documents\Paradox Interactive\Age of Wonders 4\Logs.

As Jordi has mentioned, please provide the game logs that were associated with the multiplayer games. When you play the game, a game log (as type clg) will be created. You can simply just try to go into the multiplayer session until you've reached the issue. Once the issue has occurred and prevented you from playing/proceeding, you can close the game and search for the game logs as mentioned before. You can place those .clg files in a zip folder and post a new message in this thread with the attached zip file.

The problem is still not solved. Me and my friend were playing without major issues for weeks. But suddenly today we can't get a list of active lobbies most of the times. It took 30 refreshes of the lists & account changes to load the active sessions list only for one time. When it finally has loaded, I tried to connect to the lobby I needed. But the connection resulted into kick back to the sessions lists, which after a short time disappeared.

I have approximately 10 active sessions, and my friend has 2 of them. He managed to connect to the needed game only once. Still, we couldn't play, because I couldnt connect to it lol.

It is sad to see, that this major problem stays unfixed for a long time, though it is critical for gaming experience.

Guys, we understand the frustration around the multiplayer issue; however, outing your frustration here does not help us in gathering the necessary information to combat the issue. Therefore, I kindly ask of you to please provide us with the game logs, to help us detect and figure out how to fix the issue. I've explained how you can find the game logs in my previous message, so please, I ask of you kindly to provide those for us, so we can continue to help you guys.

Well add me to the list who is having these problems. Game worked fine for 2 multiplayer sessions then tonight randomly decided to stop working. We own all the DLC's

I'd provide logs but apparently the game did not even generate these logs at the requested location. But I can tell you the game is still up for my friends who see me as still the host and not left the game session and yet strangely I can find public sessions of randoms games just fine. Though giving it a test right now, I'm given a ever so helpful "A internal error has occured" message when I try to join. Great, thanks this tells me so much.

I included a screen shot showing this log file just not existing where I'm told its suppost to be.

Full reinstall had no effect. Still can't connect with any game I can find in the public lobbies. Still no logs showing up even when using the search function. I can only conclude the game thinks its running fine and its a paradox server problem. If only the error message actually gave more of a hint to the problem.

Looking up the internal error problem, seems to be a mod related one potentially, but I've already cleared my game of the mods after testing one in single player. If it is related then something is not clearing correctly as this issue is persisting after a full reinstall. Annoyingly, every single bug report thread I find has zero follow up beyond more people having the problem. Reminds me a lot of the multiplayer issues with battletech.

Tested bypassing the launcher. No dice.

I've played many games, but only those with paradox servers have given me so many desyncs, so many server problems. Stellaris, battletech, planetfall, now 4. Though this is a first having the active sessions just vanish entirely. Can't say I've had this issue with gladius, sword of the stars, wasteland 3, or a multitude of many other games.
All on PC steam btw.

What gives paradox? This problem is spreading. We paid for this game, we paid for the DLC, why can't we play what we paid for? I don't remember this being early access.

Ok update, after I went to conduct another test, a friend of mine opted to look at the settings. And we seem to have found the problem. Hey paradox staff, maybe allow the error message actually say what the problem is. Might help in trouble shooting. Just a tip.

So the fix we found was, because we dabbled in a mod or 2, the game has been designed in a bizarre manner to disable your multiplayer effectively. To get around this you'll need to clear all mods, go into settings, online, and set the cross play to full.

This is how we got this fixed.

Not sure why cross play is mandatory but apparently it is now.

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread, but it appears the issue still hasn't been resolved. So, my multiplayer game with 2 other players broke literally on the final battle of the match and didn't allow me to reconnect in the same fashion as everyone else in this thread. I tried this method and it temporarily allowed me a few more attempts at reconnecting before my 2 active sessions both disappeared again and now I have this issue with both the crossplay enabled and disabled. Here are some logs that were created during my attempts at reconnecting and the logs from the initial crash (the biggest file), that happened during auto resolve on the final fight. I feel these things didn't happen when Paradox account wasn't required.
