Me and a bunch of guys, none of which have played MP before, are going to do a MP game in a while, a short while. Since none of us have done it before, I said I could host, but I haven't done it either, so I really don't know much about it :p I could use some general tips, like... which scenario/mod is best to MP with? Which speed (I really don't know this one, I always play on fastest in SP :p)? Any general rules? Anything like, have the prov for X years and it's your core, or have x% of that cultures prov's and you get that culture.

Just pretend I know nothing, which is more true than not ^^ Any tips will be appriciated.

In my experience the best MP speed is "below normal" or "normal". Any slower and somebody will probably start going crazy :D, any faster and the stresslevel will almost become unendurable imho.
Hosting a game is a VERY simple matter. Just go into "Multiplayer", then click on "Create Game", choose your connection (LAN or Internet), pick a scenario und just wait for the rest of the gang to join ;).

The set of rules is more or less entirely up to you. There is a big variety of game rules in this forum, depending on subjective preferences. I guess you could talk to a few "Vets" though, as they know a lot about balancing the game out through specific rules.
Hope I could help...

Thanks. The gang I'll be playing with are all noobs in MP, but pretty decent players in SP (but arent all? Atleast I know to focus my research on Infra at start and to keep the treasure slider to the left :p).

If we're going to do a 2on2 game, just for fun and to try out stuff, which 4 nations would you suggest? We'll use Ryoken's MP scenario probably.

I'm going to go through various threads and find some rules. Maybe I could post them here when Im done (could take a while) and give me feedback on it? :)

Spain/Austria vs France/OE is always a nice combination.

For a newbie game, I'd set speed to slow and below normal. Give you a chance to get into the game.

Normal is regular non-war speed in most games here and below normal or slow is the speed for wars unless they are minor or AI.

Above normal is seldom practical for a number of reasons, none of which I intend to go into at length here. Play and learn. :D

Below Normal is a nice universal speed. From this as a base it can be adjusted by +/- 1 step depending on state of action and lag in the game.

EDIT:
Drill this start procedure into your players:
1. No one selects country before host does (host knows when all have downloaded).
2. No one tabs after he has selected.
3. If at first appears game got stuck in loading window, no one Ctrl+Alt+Deletes until about 2 minutes of wait or more.
4. When game starts, no one issues any orders until it can be established everyone has joined successfully.
5. All click "start game" ASAP possible when game has loaded, and also say something like "In!" to indicate they've joined sucessfully.
