The 1941 crash may be related to the same issue that Hendriks saw. If you email a zipped save game to alf@melachea.demon.co.uk then I'll take a look at it and fix the known issue, then send the save game back to you so you can continue playing.

There was some discussion a while back about the 1936 crash soon after Ethiopian Freedom Fighters event. Generalisimo re-wrote the entire event chain so I think this will not happen in 0.2 release of C.O.R.E.

About Japan, you need to pick Elect Right in the 1937 election. If you don't then the war never starts or at least not until you reach 100 WE. I'll include a Marco Polo Bridge event in 0.2 that pretty much ensures that Japan will go to war, it works well but IMHO it makes war a little bit too certain ;) There's a balance to be found between having every game turn out historical and having some games throw up surprises - in the long run you might want more of the latter to keep interest in the game (it's basically historical accuracy vs game re-playability).

The Election in 1937 didn't seem too clear as to which path would take you to War faster....from what I remember. Would be nice of this was a little clearer ....maybe. Have to look again maybe.

The Itlay Freedom Fighter Event is a neat idea but seems to happen the same way every time with the same out come as you described. It would be nice to seem it more Random.

Final thoughts thus far.....Japan seems WAY too weak to take China on. I believe Japan should be strengthen a bit. Every time I have played so far (not playing Japan), China has kicked Japans butt all over the place. Because of this....Japan will NEVER be a threat to the USA.

Only send me the savegame (for your USA game) if you want to continue playing that game, we already know the reason for the 1941 crash and the fix for it (assuming you have the same issue as henriks, which seems likely as he crashed June 1941).

Japan used to be a little too strong, now it may be a bit too weak due to ComChi and NatChi events. I'm waiting for the 1.04 patch to resolve the retreat bug (which adds a high random factor to the outcome) before investing more time in balancing it. I've seen all outcomes (Japan kicked out of China, China annexed, China puppeted) a fair number of times so it's not a foregone conclusion that China wins.

Look here for one example of an outcome (handsoff game) or here for an even more impressive Japanese empire (they went North, not South).
 
well, just to let you know, i have a "hang up" in May 1936 playing with Yemen (i have a lot more, but this is after the lasts changes :D ) with the new version of Freedom Fighters, so maybe the cause of the error are not the Freedom Fighters (because now, they start triggering in 1937), but it is another event that triggers "around" that date...
I thought i have solved it checking all the events that will be added in 0.2 that "can" trigger around that date...
I have a "full" game with USA, so i thought, "problem solved!!!"... but no... then the hang up with yemen came...:eek: .... so, maybe, the "responsable" of this hang up could be in 0.1 and not in 0.2, so i will start checking the "old" events... :D

i also changed the RSI ministers (so they do not overlap the USA ministers).

the weird thing is that i didn't had "hangs" before... they appeared when i started to work on 0.2 (a long time ago...), that's why i thought it was a 0.2 problem...

EDITED: i will start a new game, and play until it hangs, then i will copy & paste the history.txt here, so you can see what happened...

You are correct....it was Discovered in 1932 in Bahrain while looking for water. The First Oil Well in Saudi Arabia was at Dammam Dome 1938. The Discovery of the World's Largest Oild Field (Est 60 Billion Barrels) was at Ghawar in 1948. I am not sure how much or how long it got them to increasing/exporting production. I will do a bit of research on this.

....so in effect. Saudi Arabia didn't really even have Oil Production until ~1938. Even more so the other Mid-East countries. This should be a 'Trigger Event with Added Supplies" AFTER this date....at the least.

I do on the other hand think that the USA has too much Oil to start with.

Something to think about is that if the CORE mod is to ever go past 1948, there will need to be an Event(s) for increasing Oil supplies in the Middle East. Even Argentina...though I think that one was MUCH later on. :)

Yeah, it looks like you are missing a semi-colon after the 10th position. Use this line and make sure you have no linebreaks in province.csv of course :D

Hmm, seems there's some other oddities in province.csv and Havards site isn't much help... I'll try to figure it out.

EDIT: Ok, had a look and there's quite a few differences between Paradox province.csv and C.O.R.E. province.csv. I reset most changes (not IC and manpower) to what was in the Paradox version of the file after doing a clean install of HOI + 1.03b + C.O.R.E. and then ran a handsoff test game with no hang problems ('36 or otherwise...) despite all the usual multiple Ethiopian uprisings etc. No idea if it's a real fix or just a fluke but here's the line I used:

the diference is because you deleted the number on the "port" column, I put a "0" there, because it is the standard on the file. :)

but, now, it looks that there is a lot ";" missing... i think that this will surelly create some BUGS... i wil change that...

Province.csv is the worst file I've worked with so far I think... Anyway, I think we need to get the 1.04 province.csv and base any work of that now. Is the changes that OHGamer made documented anywhere? Did anybody else work with province.csv?

that file was moded by me, nachinus and OHgamer (as far as i can remember... )
but i will "try" to check it with the 1.04 file... see you next year... :p :D :D :D
 
Well, first try a vanilla 1.04 province.csv to see if C.O.R.E. runs without hanging even if there's no changes ;) That should help us eliminate any problems like the Cairo port being the root cause of your current hang symptom.

I think I can do a file comparison fairly easily, don't know if it would be easier with a PERL script or just using a spreadsheet and some functions... hmm, I'll have a look tonight. You do programming at uni though, right? I'm sure you'll have it fixed in to time then :D

No further problems thus far. Up to Late 1940. Unless I see any other major issues before I finish this game, I will hold off my minor observations until then. Everything seems 'ok' so far :)

well, the idea is to wait until it is released, and then test and see if we can use the "new things" of that patch, it will be no sense to release 0.2 and a week later release 0.3 with only a couple of changes to implement 1.04. ;)

well, i have to see how the moddir works...
also, i will work on the province.csv, because, aparently, it IS the file that it is causing the freezings and all that stuff, so i will start with the 1.04 file, and try to add the moded values, BUT without altering the structure of the file (it looks like it had happened in the past).

about the events... what are you talking exactly? the triggers of your events that i needed to modify? if it is that what you are asking, yes. :D
 
Depends on if there's any hang issues when we test it...

Generalisimo, I'll send you the Altmark / Weserubung / Ore Trade events. Send me your current 0.2 release candidate files and I'll run tests with 1.04 tonight (using a Paradox 1.04 province.csv for now).


EDIT: And the Dnieper Dam if it works :D I really wish we could include the picture though!
