Yes...again
You all remember destiny? It failed in the end because of a combination of too few players and the summer vacation coming up. And there were some other issues.
Anyhoo, I want to try it again, but this time different and hopefully better.
You all know Diplomacy Universalis with the country switching and such? It has a lot of advantages, but there exist a few players that don't want to switch. Not everyone likes it. But what about a combination of the DU type with a historical game?
Well, here's my idea up for discussion:
We're going to do a historical RPG game on a new map, but with only five players who play a country from start till finish. These players play:
Three or four other players play various countries during the campaign. This to simulate the 'active' times of these countries.
For example, at start of the campaign, the 'switch' humans would play Portugal, Venice, Poland and perhaps the papal states. They will simulate the rise of those nations, the catholic league, the explorations of Portugal and so on.
After, say, a good century the papacy and Venice will be abandoned and Sweden, The Netherlands and one or two HRE minors get players. The Dutch will battle Spain, try to expand on behalf of Portugal and Sweden is there to fight the thirty years war with Gustavus against Austria.
After another while Prussia gets a player, Russia does and Poland is abandoned. Friedrich the Great will battle Austria and Russia will use Suvorov against the OE. Poland will be annexed, Sweden will decline and so do the Dutch.
Etc.
This would hopefully mean that we won't see a ahistorical strong Portugal till 1820 and a Poland that stays in game till 1820, or a Venice that dominates the mediterrean in the 18th century.
It also solves the problem that currently there are too few players interested in RP to play all countries from start till finish. A campaign as described above could be done with as few as 8 players.
Thoughts?
