umm I would like to play as I have no mp experience but my connection is unstable, what speed is required for a healthy gameplay as I have a 256kbps dsl and I'm a bit far away I might lag turning everyones gaming experience into hell

If 256kbps is adequate may I join as a useless minor backwater country which no one will notice and get the hell out if I lag?

yeah it was a good game, but next time I wont fail

Ok, here is the situation. Here are my "policies" to this game.

1. I prefer to keep pauses to a minimum. Pauses are fine to catch up (it's inevitable with all these players) with game data. Pauses are fine to try to fix bugs or deploy. Bugs we've discovered are building RR, troop movement, unable to assign workers to factory, technology can be researched repeatedly, etc. If you cannot handle play this game at below average speed without any pause during single player, you may want to reconsider as we try to keep pauses to a minimum.

2. Most likely playing time for us are weekends, such as late Friday night USA eastern time or on Saturday as our player makeup are about 1/2 USA, 1/2 European now.

3. We are looking for subs and maybe new nations. Policies are as follows.
a. Post your profile on your gameplay style so it helps everyone when they are trying to deal with you.
b. Subs along with new players will be given IRC contact information as majority of diplomacy seem to be done via IRC. We will also ask you for an email address so game information/update can be sent via email.
c. We try to figure out if we need subs as early as possible. If possible, I would like to give the subs at least 2 days of preparation time, that means you will be notified ahead of game time (hopefully) with most update to date saved game file that I can get my hand on. You should consult with the player that needed a sub directly on how to run the nation as well as perhaps conducting diplomacy. Each player's is different. For me, I may dictate what I like the sub to do and I like the sub to observe my wishes. However, if it's more long term sub/replacement, I tend to like let the sub run the nation as he sees fit as I probably won't have time to micro manage anyways.
d. diplomatic activities are a lot. I know for a fact a couple players can spend a few hours everyday between game sessions on conducting diplomacy. Diplomatic activities may decrease once wars are declared among players and battle lines are drawn. Right now, it's all kind of proposal and plans that keep all those players busy so if you wish to join now, keep that in mind as you'll probably be sucked into this maelstrom. This game is not just normal economic management and military conquest vicky anymore, it's also a lot of diplomacy.

4. Viable nations are
Netherland (untouched more or less)
Belgium (I need to double check but I think it's still around)
Mexico (already satellited by USA so...it's your choice as Darkrenown is USA and you'll have to deal with him if you're Mexico)
Brazil (lower tech and low pop so if you take over, good luck, unless you can get other player to back you, it'll be hard for you to say no to players who shows up on your doorstep with an army.)
Japan (It's not civilized yet so you need a lot of diplomacies to get players to guarantee your independence, otherwise it's likely to be carved up by other players sooner or later)
Greece
Portugal
China (treaty of aigun already occured and russia gained even more territory besides the ones lost by treaty. Russia also annexed Tibet so China's map is smaller now, you can see China's situation in our AAR)
Korea (Russia already border you and if other players didn't protest, you would've been part of mother russia so bear that in mind)

Of all those choices, Netherland is the best. Other nations all have some serious to potentially very serious problem that puts their nation's survival in doubt. If Belgium is not touched, perhaps 2nd best. No matter which nation you pick, lots of diplomacy is required on the player's part to survive as others have been greedily carving up the world.

If you wish to join, please submit your playing style profile (you can see examples in this thread) as well as likely time to be able to play and nation you wish to play. I will submit your choice to a vote by other players. If enough players vote for you, you will be invited.

well, since im looking to be a floating sub, heres a bit o profile:

I mainly like to look inward with developement. I tend to play rather peacefully and focus on improving my citizens life. However, if I do go to war I like to be well prepared and fight hard.... for it really sucks losing wars  I however do like to keep a good standing army in case of surprise attack. Oh, and i try to keep somewhat to what those nations really did. I'm not too aggressive, and unless that nation has much history in colonization, I am not a big fan it.

Just a word of caution....

Pacifist may not live long in this game...when everyone else is bulking up and you don't...you risk falling farther and farther behind the others....when others can afford to throw a million soldiers into battle and perish, you cannot.

My first choice would be Japan but I'll take Netherlands if you'd prefer. I can't play Tuesday, Thursday or Friday nights as i have a EU2 game at that time.

I also would ask to be treated gently at first asi haven't played Victoria much. :)

Hey, hold on just a second now...

Blitz, two of those remarks were made at me: the diplomacy thing and the Korea thing. Let me just say this--I had no intentions on conquering Korea. None. I told you why already. Now listen--this is the 'fact' thread of the AAR. Let's keep the 'Memnon's trying to conquer Asia' sentiment out of here, ok? ;)

Korea thing is Russia yes but diplomacy thing, for better or worse, is not.

I'm in IRC often and I see players conduct diplomacy, coming and going. You aren't the only player that spend some time on diplomacy, although in terms of # of hours, you're probably #1 but some other players have picked up their pace as well.

I'm just trying to give potential new player/subs a picture of what they're getting themselves into. Like the reason I posted profile of us and ask for other profiles, I like to give a reasonable amount of information to players so we can all enjoy the game better.

I have to admit, diplomacy has not been so complicated until you enter the picture.

Lady Europa: I will submit a vote for Japan, since we've had session on Friday night and one player complained about 11AM EST game session before. Are you interested in subbing? Until we have a good pool of subs, we can always get more standby subs.

Memnon: send me your schedule and vote so I or someone else can come up with time for next session.

Lamprey: check your email, I need your schedule also.

Remember, Blitz, I can't check email at work, so I'll just answer now.

I'm free all of Thursday through Sunday evening, as my internship ends on Wednesday and I don't start the next job till Monday. Beginning Monday, I'm working Monday to Wednesdays in the mornings, so I'll effectively be free from Wednesday to the end of August. :D

As for Japan, I'm happy to Let Lady Europa play it. It'll be intersting to watch how she does, but she can give it a go if she wants. Remember LE, the Pacific's mostly taken already. ;)

It is up to the players, not me to treat you gently. At least the MP games I've played so far, we kinda honor "thou shalt not totally destroy another player's nation" But, with all those ai nations gone and we have more player nations, maybe that rules doesn't need to be observed anymore, we'll see. I liked that rule because it allows everyone to enjoy some bloody wars without fear of being wiped out from the game. I think some players like to wipt out other players, as it's more satisfying than annex ai ;)

Ok, got your vote and schedule.

LE, Pacific is filled with Russia's puke green, including Okinawa, Midway, Polynesia, Benito (sp? the one next to Honshu).

I think we're still playing by the 'dont-wipe-out-player-controlled-countries' rule. You won't be kicked out of the game if you try to wipe someone out, but you will almost certainly find yourself at the wrong end of a huge alliance war though. :)
