I know there has been much discussion of this but there doesn’t seem to be a dedicated thread to draw it to CO's attention. Let me know if there is!

We need to be able to create and mod policies that control which buildings grow where – especially if we want to create collections of building styles, and for testing our models in game. This could pull a ‘tag’ in the asset – in the same way that must already happen for industry specialisations. It must appear in the native UI – ideally under city planning policies. It must disable other buildings that do not have the tag.

CO themselves probably need to do this to allow them to make DLC, for example European buildings. Are they going to lock us out of doing this? Or just make it work in the same way as the specialisations - this would be cumbersome in UI terms.

Questions:

1. Has anyone found a way to do this? If not why not, what’s the block? ;)

2. How does it work for specialisations? That would be a good start to cracking the above.

3. If it’s not currently possible, do you think this is a priority or is there something more pressing for CO to enable modding of?

4. What ideas for the use of this feature do you have? Why should CO bother allowing it?

One idea from me – several sets of ordinary British buildings for different time periods :)

YES! I came here to write exactly the same request, but you did it perfectly.

We definitely need a way to categorize the buildings we download and enable the one we want in the policies panel.
This will allow us tho make japanse neighborhood, eastern europe, slums, bitish, parisian, etc ..

Although we don't have any plans to implement this, the idea has been presented to CO. I know we haven't posted a ton lately, but we're still gathering your great ideas, suggestions, and feedback. So keep up the good work!

This is an idea that will be very usefull in the future when we will have more DLC and more collections of building styles.

I think it's much more than just "useful" with lots of assets - it makes have collections of different styles worthwhile. Without some ability to "zone" building styles, a collection of different styles that get randomly mixed together is just a bit "meh".

Not disagreeing with you - just emphasising :)

You´re shitting me, right? How can you have no plans when you need exactly that for the W2W houses? This is by far one of the most needed tools/mechanics for any city that has any sort of themed blocks. Which means basically every city.
Or maybe I am wrong and you guys came up with a geniusly idea that works much better? Or did the plans for W2W go in the bin? In that case please share so I can stop wasting my time preparing models for W2W houses.

I guess the only issue with only allowing certain tagged buildings in an area would potentially mean a lot of duplication (unless there are lots of models).

And for example wall to wall buildings, I would probably want a block or just a road here and there that look like that, but I wouldn't really want to zone a district for just one road so I could do it.

I reckon CO will have a good way of doing it.

Azure, it would be nice if you could let players know what exactly your current plans are and what their priorities are. What can we expect next? Someone else from CO said that the custom asset icon issue was "very high" on the To-do list, but obviously not high enough to make it to 1.0.7c patch. And on the thread topic: Since you don't have any plans to implement this, I want to encourage you to change your plans ;-) (unless you have a similar functionality planned)
