Let's speculate, what the next expansion will be like thematically.

I personally believe, it will have something to do with traveling around, but mayheps it's something related to France.

The devs have said as follows on this topic:

“…the next Expansion is leaning towards the roleplaying side of the game. Without revealing too much we’re focusing in large parts on reinforcing the connection between map and character. The theme is not one that has been the subject of an expansion in previous iterations of CK…”

France has been identified as a potential area for a future flavour pack. Unfortunately we currently don’t have much more to go on than that!

Personally I’m hoping that regencies will appear as a feature of this expansion or even the accompanying free patch; i.e. if the main theme of the expansion is that there will now be greater focus on where a character is on the map at any one time, then there should also be a new emphasis on what is going on in a ruler’s domains while he or she is physically absent…This would seem to tie in with the theme no less neatly than the cultural overhaul, languages, artefacts and court mechanics all tied in with the theme of the Royal Court DLC and accompanying free patch.

Location, France and Roleplaying: Be a French robberbaron in the next Major Pack of CK3.

Nah. I am joking. My guess is a more travel and Location based Situation for your ruler with additional focus on regencies, Events in your location in both peace and wartime (something that was already in CK2) adventures on your own and great works/better unique works.

Do we know when the next dev diary will be published? They were supposed to reveal what's coming soon, right?
The devs said in last week’s dev diary that it was ‘the first of a small series of Dev Diaries about some more minor things, teasers, and today, about a brand-new community initiative’ - so it seems it will be at least a few weeks until the dev diaries on the expansion start appearing, particularly given that there wasn’t even one of the smaller dev diaries today.

I'm hoping for more of a sense of "location". As in, being able to see where various characters actually are. Rather than, you know... being in your home county, but also somehow being a Spymaster and being somewhere totally different, then transporting to command an army in a totally different place.

I'm slightly worried it'll be something to do with building more things on the map like bridges (and that's why we had a bridge-related teaser) and monuments, because that really isn't very interesting to me.

The thing about the courts of Kings in the early Middle Ages was that they didn't have a permanent court. The Kings of Eastern Francia were constantly travelling around their realm until Otto the Great decided to build a permanent court again, like Charlemagne had.

"God bless the King but may he never return." was supposedly a common saying in the German lands, since the common folk had "the honor" to supply the King and his men wherever they would stay.

So maybe something like that, that the ruler won't have a permanent capital until a certain point where he settles down, with different events and effects depending where he is.

I believe if it is a Major Pack, Great Works and Special Buildings will probably be more of a side mechanic. Similar to the artifacts in the Royal Court. As the main focus it would be too little for the game.

This was something that dissapointed me greatly with Royal Court. I was hoping that it would mean characters would actually be in your court physically. So you could have some classic intrigue of keeping some lords close to the king while others would be far way, or for Game of Throne style stuff where a councillor being on the council meant they actually had to be with your king. Could have been very cool IMO, and you could have events and stuff related to that and where your "household" is. Instead your character will simultaneously be shown as being at the kings court while also apparently ruling from your personal capital on the other side of the realm, likewise for being a ruler your councillors will be portrayed as being present despite not actually being there.

In my dreams, the whole "reinforcing the connection between map and character" thing is moving around the map to attend coronations, christenings, funerals, marriage proposals etc. with all the mechanics that go with those.

That's likely 100% wishful thinking.

I'm hoping more interacting at the barony/county level. Characters represented better on the map, Development levels affecting the map aesthetics such as roads and bridges appearing, as well as, how swiftly characters can move. Perhaps some population management mechanics that aren't overbearing, are unique to CK and maybe factor into Innovation/Fascination, cultural assimilation/religious assimilation ratios and levy sizes.

Coronations and royal weddings could be fun.

A coronation should be a political and religious ceremony for kings and up, look at ck2 and largely copy it honestly.

Royal weddings could also be fleshed out to be more than a choice between money and prestige. Maybe have some options about how grand the ceremony should be and have some mingling events with guests and the like.

Baptisms could also be added for christians either at birth or on conversion.

So rp for more special/once in a lifetime events i guess.

Not a bad guess, be nice if it was lots of big events like that that meant the local royality and nobility of kingdoms and their neighbours travelled around more regularly.

Large feast days
Trade Festivals/Market Days
Religious Conclaves
Pilgrimages
Weddings
Funerals
Tournies
Event driven diplomatic conclaves (Field of gold cloth kinda thing) with neighbouring rival realms(?)
Baptisms and funerals
