  • Terra Sauri: (dinosaur civilization game set before KT extinction, can be converted over to Mythos)
  • Mythos: (fantasy theme game with Elves, Orcs, Wizards, Amazons and whatnot; can be converted over to Sunrise of Civilization
  • Sunrise of Civilization: (Ancient Antiquity game from the rise of human civilization to the death of Alexander the Great)
  • Roma Universalis: (Antiquity game from the founding of Rome to the final division of the Roman Empire in 395 AD).
  • Barbarian Warlords: (Dark age game from the final division of the Roman Empire to the death of Charlemagne).
  • Crusader Kings II: (Medieval age game from 769 to 1453).
  • Europa Universalis IV: (Renaissance and early Industrial age game from 1444 to 1820).
  • Victoria III: (Industrial age game from 1836 to 1936).
  • Hearts of Iron IV: (World War II themed game).
  • Eagle and the Bear: (Cold War themed game).
  • Pax Americana: (Current era themed game).
  • Stellaris: (Sci-Fi themed game).

I already have a fantasy GSG idea, called Cilagrush Legends. It doesn't take place on earth, but it could be converted to the original Crusader Kings.

Rome made a nice start on modeling the ancient world, so yes, a sequel would be nice sometime.

But Victoria is and always has been Paradox's best game, in my opinion, one of the best strategy titles ever devised by anyone. It's just such a brilliant study of the economic, political, and social evolution of the nineteenth century. It's a sand box and a history lesson all rolled into one package. (It's also the only P'dox game where playing a New World country such as the USA or Mexico is even remotely interesting)

If Vicky 3 isn't the next major project, I'm resigning - from everything! :D

I'd love to see a Vicky 3.. I've tried 2, but could never wrap my head around it. With their newer, more user-friendly design principles, people like me could start enjoying the great game that it appears to be. :)

But, after that, I'd love to see a modern to near-future game, something to bridge the gap between HoI 4 (which I'm guessing will have a cold war expansion) and Stellaris.

I was never able to wrap my head around it until I read this Brazil walkthrough. Maybe it will help you also:

I feel like the following games would be cool:

The Diadochi: This would take place from 336 BC (the death of Philip II of Macedon) to 201 BC (the end of the Second Punic War), and would cover Alexander's conquest of the east, the Wars of the Diadochi, and the rise of Rome.

Rome II: This would take place from 201 BC (the end of the Second Punic War and of The Diadochi, which could be converted into Rome II) to 311 AD (the death of Diocletian, who divided Rome into east and west) and would cover Rome's rise to power, the fall of the republic, Rome's expansion out of the Mediterranean, the rise of Christianity, and the divide between the Western Roman Empire and the Eastern Roman Empire/Byzantine Empire.

Ruina Imperii: This would take place from 311 AD (the death of Diocletian and the end of Rome II, which could be converted into Ruina Imperii) to 769 AD (soon after the death of Pepin the Short and the beginning of Crusader Kings 2), and would cover the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the Germanic migrations, early Christianity and its heresies, Justinian, and the rise of Islam.

East vs West: This would take place from 1945 (the end of World War II) to 1991 (the fall of the USSR), and would cover the Cold War, including the Korean War, the Vietnam War, East and West Germany, the Space Race, and Saddam Hussein's rise to power.

Peace of Democracy: This would take place from 1991 (the fall of the USSR and the end of East vs West, which could be converted into Peace of Democracy) to 2200 (the start of Stellaris), and would cover the modern day, including the War on Terror and Crimea Dispute, as well as possible events in the future, such as space exploration (though not to the level of Stellaris).

From here, a megacampaign would be:

The Diadochi (336 BC-201 BC)
Rome II (201 BC-311 AD)
Ruina Imperii (311 AD-769 AD)
Crusader Kings 2 (769 AD-1444 AD)
Europa Universalis IV (1444 AD-1821 AD)
Victoria III (1821 AD-1936 AD)
Hearts of Iron IV (1936 AD-1945 AD)
East vs West (1945 AD-1991 AD)
Peace of Democracy (1991 AD-2200 AD)
Stellaris (2200 AD-)

I'd prefer to see the Dark Ages before fantasy.

What historical events would such a game cover, in your view? The Roman Empire being overrun? Britain being overrun? North Africa being overrun? Everything being overrun?

Your time slot between Rome II and CKII strikes me as a bit narrow, but maybe you are right. Still, I can't see past the prospect of an everything-is-overrun dynamic, which isn't quite like the usual PDS game. You could make the Mohammedans the empire-building heroes, telling the story from their perspective; but that game would not be much fun for me.

So, tell me more. I'd like to hear.

The timeframe would be something on the lines of 395/476 - 800 (+). The game would cover, in simple terms, historical events such as the Rise of Islam, the migrations and the various church councils and heresies. If I suggest tend to suggest this kind of, it is because while working with the mod WtWSMS for CK2 I have realised the potential a such title could have.

I would like to see a post-apocalyptical grand strategy game in a Fallout like setting. Maybe it could borrow elements like late game crises and fallen empires from Stellaris. I would like to lead different kinds of survivors (vault survivors, mutant nomads etc.) to resettle and reconquer Earth while exploring the true story behind the apocalypse.

They should definitely make use of their new Vampire: The Masquerade property, too, but that will probably work best as a RPG.

Continuing from my ideas earlier, perhaps if something happens in either the Cold War game or the modern day game, perhaps instead of converting to Stellaris, you could convert to the post-apocalyptic game and try to rebuild civilization.

I do not know if you knew Empire of Ants but it is really very old and I can't find it anymore (I only looked via legal ways).
I'm waiting a game like that to be published again and Paradox Interactive seems the studio the most capable of making us a game like that. There are still videos of gameplay but I can't find that game anymore.

Any modern day PDS game (post Cold War) would most likely have the leaders semi-fictionalized in order to prevent possible lawsuits and also to protect both the innocent and guilty. Also having the leaders semi-fictionalized will be a good way to have RL politicians offer technical input / advice to the devs without the risk of having the actual politicians in the base games (modders can always mod in the real names).

Another reason to make a Cold War game then: most of the innocent and guilty of that era are not among the living anymore, and the remaining ones won't bother with a lawsuit. :)

I bet there will be vic3 before rome2, or even no rome at all because it doesnt seem like theres a will for doing one. i think they will announce vic 3 on gamescom, but i dont hope so.

This. Pretty much waiting for this to happen.
