I am using EU2 version 1.08
I am running WinXP home SP1 build 2600
I have a Gateway E-4000 with x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~2399 Mhz
512 MB of RAM
1.22 GB free on the hardrive
Video Card- Nvidia GeforceFX 5500 PCI with driver 6.14.10.5664 and 128 MB video RAM
Sound Card- SoundMax integrated Digital Audio PCI with driver 5.12.01.3513
Direct X- Version installed 9.0c unsure about driver number
I believe thats most of the things you asked for in the sticky

The problem- After i start the game the song plays in the background during the introduction. However, in the game there is no music at all. There is sound but just no music. Please help.

THere are a coupe of places music can be effected.
One is the EU2 settings program, here you can set game res and music on/off
THen there is volume control in the main options screen and in the ingame options screen.

Check all those places first.

Can you play th esongs in the Music folder with Media player?

I downloaded my version of EUII and patched with 1.08 and I have no music. Not anywhere. The only sounds I hear are trumpets, canons and soldiers marching. I checked the settings and the music should be on.

Downloaded from where?

Are there text files that lists the music files by century, do they have the names of the music files in them?

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
4) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

I did 2 and 3 and im working on step 4 right now. But, I would like to clear something up about step one. I renamed this avi folder to avi_back. However, all that changed is that there was no longer an introduction video. Also, the name for my avi folder is in lowercase, not AVI as you wrote it. Does that matter?

Nope. As long it ain't named avi or any other possible combination of those 3 letters. ;)

That is not all step 1 does. ;) Keep it renamed.

I did step 1-3 and was able to update my video driver. I did not find a newer driver for my audio. The situation remains the same, no music. I was able to play the music files individually.

This works !!

Since there is music when the opening credits roll, etc. I for the first time let all of the opening sequences roll without pressing escape to bypass them. When I then started the game I still had music. :)

If you were following my advice you did not have opening credits.

If you've renamed the AVI folder you shouldn't have any 'opening credits'... Did you reenable it? If not, since playing out the opening let the music work, I'd say disabling the opening would do so as well.

Sounds fammiliar. :)

okay well i have done everything except update my sound drivers. Does anyone know where I can get the new drivers from? The SoudMax site does not offer much help there. Also, the driver they have at the gateway site is the one I currently have.
