Well, several people have the same problem as evidenced by this thread, looks like the on-demand version in each case, think of anything in that direction? Did the beta patches work with the on-demand version? Thanks for the help thus far btw. :)

Well two people only, and one solved it by not escaping from the intro movies, and the other well I am supprised he could even run the game at all.

I counted 3, I make 4.. anyways can't think of anything else to try?

Did you know if the beta batches would affect the .exe of the on-demand version?

Not sure I know for sure one way or the other on that.
Lets have you try and report back.

Well I installed the beta and it seems to work.. the on-demand login/play dialog box did not appear when I loaded it up, just goes straight to the game loading screen and everything appears to work as normal... except the music. Still no music.

What to do about the music?

I will have my assistant jpd drop by and see if he can show me up. :)

Can't really see anything wrong, hardware or driver wise. So lets start at the other end.

1) What's the current contents of the settings.cfg file, which can be found in the main eu2 directory.

2) Which files are present in the music folder? There should be four .txt files, named 14.txt, 15.txt, 16.txt and 17.txt

3) Each of these four files should contain the names of .mp3 files, which can be found in the same music folder, but without the .mp3 file extention attached.

If 2) and 3) check out, try double clicking on one of those .mp3 files. Does the Media Player open, and start to play? If so, do you now hear the music?

Affirmative.

Affirmative, it plays in my music playing program when I double click on it.

Ok. When compared to my own copy, I have a 1 one the first line, instead of a 0. I doubt if it would make a difference, but you could try it nonetheless.

Given the above, I take it that the Windows Media Player is not your music program. Which one do you use, and is that active in any way when you try to play the game? If so, then that's probably the explanation. The Windows media engine can link one playback device/codec (in this case MP3) to only one application at a time.

At work right now, but I will try changing that line to a 1 tonight thanks.

I use music match, but it isn't active in any way at the same time when i've tried EUII.

Music match usually causes the screen to blink.
MM.exe in the Preocess tab usually needs to be shut down.

Yeah it does cause the screen to blink, I noticed it did that with CK. I don't run it when playing games, it's shut down, not in the processes tab of taskmanager at all.

The poster BadBoyWar in the e-shop forum is having the same problem.. he has the on-demand version as well. I directed him to come to this thread and try some of your ideas.

Thanks Liu Bei for forwarding me here. :)

I've tried the various suggestions posted here, nothing has for me worked yet. I'll keep an eye on this thread for anything else to try.

Changed it to a 1, still no music and I could not discern any other visible display from the change. What does changing that affect?

Well, I ended up just specifically opening Windows Media Player and selected all the .mp3's in the EUII music folder into it and played them while I played the game... no flicker during the game; the music was there and it was glorious. Not a true fix but one i'll accept.

Glad the work around is functioning okay, I have not been able to track the souce of this sorry, I don't get why it seems to only affect users with the ondemand version and then only a very few of them.

help?
