Any favorites? At these digital times people can really narrow their interest to certain niches, if they want. Applies for games as well as books. I mostly read only historical novels and hard-core near-future scifi.
I like dark and preferably wacky or fucked up. Real physical laws are overrated. I did like Red Mars though.
Here is a list of favorites, in no particular order:
- Everything by Alastair Reynolds, Chasm City in particular (revelation space was kinda shit I guess but required for the rest of his books)
- The Forever War
- A Fire Upon the Deep, Vernor Vinge
- The gap cycle books by Donaldson
- Use of Weapons, by Banks (reading this atm)
- Enders game + sequels (not as keen on the new ones with Bean and buddies. also yes movie was good)
- Time Enough for Love by Heinlein (probably my favorite by him)
- The Stars My Destination by Bester
- Pandora's Star by Hamilton
- Hyperion by Simmons
- I sometimes read Honor Harrington books. Literally, and especially character wise, they are a bit shit but the military aspects are good and they contain 6-legged telepathic cats.
200 other books I currently forgot
non-sci-fi wise my all time favourite books are the Dark Tower books by Stephen king. actually they can probably be classified as sci-fi as well, they do have cyborg bears.
I like alt-history books in the sort of "Forest Gump" tradition. Cryptonomicon by stephenson about ww2 crypto warfare and also his Baroque Cycle about 17th century money and science.
Pulled pork is delicious, I had it for dinner last night. And tank slippers are pretty cool.
