The last few days I've repeatedly tried and failed to download the 1.5.1 BATTLETECH (STOMPYMECH) patch via the PDX launcher. "An error occurred"-> "Dismiss".

I might be a Paradox fanboy, but I'm wondering - is there a better solution to this than to download the entire game again but via Steam and wait until the PDX launcher is properly seaworthy?

Odd - I just tried downloading the very same patch (Version 1.5.1-477R - Minus the STOMPYMECH, clearly) and it seems to work on my side. Of course that means little in the grand scheme of things, but at least it indicates that stuff is not broken for everyone. Does your cpatch.log file give a more detailed error message perhaps?

Try this:

- log out of your Paradox account in the client
- exit the client
- run it as the windows Admin user
- log back in again
- hit GAMES-REFRESH
- click on BT again and see if it will update now.

Good luck!

This didn't help, unfortunately - I tried twice with same result as before. :( Thanks anyway!

Would that be the one attached here? It was located in a temp-folder and it seems to contain a lot of download-related gibberish, but I'm none the wiser. However, all entries seem to have the same timestamp, despite me trying to update the game at least half a dozen times since this weekend?

I suspect DO wants the one in:
C:/Users/<username>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/Launcher/

Unfortunate.
Is it planned to add this function?
Or do I have to patch and roll back as a workaround to force the check if I suspect something wrong with the installation?

Edit:
Oh, btw, aborting a download/patch without closing the program isn’t possible either currently, is it?

It is - But as mentioned before, the launcher has taken a bit of a back seat to other things in the production pipeline, so I can't give you a date on whe it'll be introduced.

Correct. Stop/Pause/resume are just some of the features on our long, long backlog of stuff we want to do but haven't managed to get around to.

Thanks, I've attached the right one here. Towards the end of it there are error messages related to my various update attempts that points to a few game files, but when I check those up (at least a few of them) in their folder, they don't seem to have changed since I first installed the game. Further assistance is much appreciated.

edit: syntax improvements

edit 2: I've managed to circumvent my problems with the launcher, I uninstalled BATTLETECH in its entirety (the launcher failed to do that the first try, second try was a success) and reinstalled it. Somewhat bothersome as the download and installation took a few hours.

edit 3: Is there anything I can do on my side when I get the error message "Looks like the launcher will not start properly"? Usually when I get this error message it will simply start on the second or third try, but now I've tried about ten times (while also rebooting my computer after six or seven tries) and it just wont start. I think I'm running 1.0-beta-35, at least that's how it seems when I rummage through the folders.

Hi there!

As a Linux customer preferring non-Steam I downloaded the Paradox Launcher for Linux to play Stellaris and it worked OK, but I think it could be improved.

Ignoring Flatpak for just a second, an obvious way to improve it would be to rebuild the Launcher Boostrapper Installer using the latest version of Mojo Setup to leverage the “new” (since the previous bootstrapper / first-run launcher in 2016) GTK+3-backend.
Of course, having an installer in the first place makes your software kinda odd-ball. Having an installation package is generally what people expect, but doing that means you need to provide several variations (deb/rpm/other stuff) and ideally a repository for updates for each of these. That's of course where Flatpak comes in, providing a consistent runtime environment across distributions with a single installation package format. It makes installation both easier for users and publishers and has been embraced by many distro vendors as well.

The reason I'm writing, of course, is because I actually created such a Flatpak package for Paradox Launcher. It's not as great as it could be because the ParadoxInteractive EULA doesn't allow me to distribute the Bootstrapper's files. Instead, it will instruct Flatpak to download the First-Run Installer upon installation, then run that once on first-run to install the bootstrapper (showing the EULA), then run instead directly jump to the bootstrapper on any subsequent runs. (Notice how PI's IP was only ever processed on the user's machine by code published by them? :)) This whole process would of course be unnecessary if the Flatpak were distributed directly by PI as it then would be allowed to directly contain the Bootstrapper or Launcher.

Does this sound interesting to you? You can take a look at the source code for the package I created here: https://gitlab.com/ntninja/com.paradoxplaza.ParadoxLauncher

Pardon if this has been asked before, but will future updates to the Paradox Launcher allow for selecting where games will be installed? My new gaming rig has a tiny C: drive, and a much larger D: drive where I install my games. However, I cannot find anywhere to do choose to do this (so if I am missing it, please let me know!). It would be great to be able to select where we want the games to be installed to, for systems like mine.

In the short-term, the workaround would be to just install the launcher itself on the D: drive (as I have).

When trying to install Stellaris through Paradox launcher, I get a UAC dialogue telling me that the launcher tries to run a .bat file from my user's temp directory with admin privileges. That hardly seems legitimate and shouldn't be necessary to install a game, so what gives?

Edit: resolved issue. was pointed out that log showed errors related to timing. reset the system clock, and the issue was fixed.

always the little things you never think of.

-----------------------------
due to having to rebuild my computer after a hard drive failure, went to reinstall the paradox game launcher. got the windows installer package file off the site, but when i run it it get about 75% of the way through, a window opens up, then the thing crashes with a "there is a problem with this windows installer package" error.
the temp folder in the installation location only has a text file labelled 'cpatch' which appears to be an installation log.

i have tried updating everything i can think of that might effect it (directX, visual C==, etc), tried compatibility modes, even tried switching to a different internet source in case there was an issue with the connection. nothing seems to work.

(system specs:
AMD A6-3620 APU 2.20 Ghz
7 GB ram
Windows 10 home - 64 bit OS - version 1809
AMD Radeon HD 7500 series graphics card.

Problem installing Stellaris through ParadoxLauncher.

Things to know:
  • I haven't played a game on my computer in about a decade
  • I do not know what Steam is (I'm looking that up next) and I do not understand why I may need a 3rd party to install Stellaris
  • I have Hughesnet #hugesucknet #hughessucksnet
Here are my system specs:
  • Windows 10 Home
  • I7-4790K 4GHz
  • RAM 32 GB
  • 64 bit OS
  • NVidia Quadro M4000
Steps I took to install: (Not having installed a game program in over a decade I thought I needed both files listed under the account that was created when I bought Stellaris)
  • I installed PdxExporterinstall (it seemed to download and install fine)
  • I downloaded ParadoxLauncher
  • I ran PdxExporterInstall
  • I tried to run ParadoxLauncher
    • then I got the error in the attached message, I have no idea what it means (file name paradox.png)
      paradox.PNG
After this I uninstalled (or attempted to...) what I was told was some Maya thing (PdxExporterInstall I was told) which I went all the way to deleting anything Maya from my registry (risky but I literally just did a fresh OS instlall, update, and so I since I was doing this from a clean install i didn't really care as I could do it again).
  • Then I TRIED to execute ParadoxLauncher again and I get the same error message.
Someone at Paradox asked me to ping them to determine if I have enough bandwidth, as I was informed that someone else claimed to be in a rural area with a similar problem. So I pinged (someone or something at Paradox) and the results are seen in image.png

Apparently that was plenty. I was also asked to attach some cpatch file. To me this looks like a log of the steps the installer was executing. If you look you can see a reference to error "Server returned a non-2XX status code..."

unfortunately the polite person I was talking to at Paradox had no idea what a non-2XX error is. so for some reason I still do not understand I was asked to post ALL of this here. If someone would please tell support@paradox.zendesk.com to tell the guy at the other end (me) of ticket number #164090 how to fix things so that I can play this game I would appreciate it. Why should it get to me that way? Because I will honestly probably not get back to this page. I had enough trouble figuring out how to post to this forum. I've been doing really specific work for a while and it has left me behind times. I do not care if you laugh. I just want to play the game.

@Deuterium Oxide I have asked the user above to post those details, as I was unable to help them in a support ticket. It looks to me like his ping times show our client is timing out even as part of the installation process. Would you agree, if so is there anything can be done about that? Thanks!

Those ping times look rather odd, yes. Would it be possible to attempt the launcher installation from some alternative internet provider - Mobile perhaps? I wouldn't suggest installing games over mobile internet, but the launcher itself should be on the "not too big" end of the spectrum...

@CluelessOldie is this something you can try?

High pings are a result of satellite internet service (worse than 4G mobile).
