I'll preface this by saying I absolutely love Surviving Mars and can't wait to experience the improvements and bug fixes in the combo patch.

That said, I think it's pretty disingenuous to cite console certification as the road block to deploying a patch for about a month now, when two days ago on the SM Twitter account it was stated the console patch was still going through internal testing (https://twitter.com/Surviving_Mars/status/988823727092699138?s=09). Clearly it's not an Xbox/PS4 process that is holding things up.

Just be straight forward. If it's going to take 6/12/18/whatever weeks to deploy a console patch after a PC patch, please just communicate that.

I'm already regretting buying this game. I do not have a pc that runs it, and I loved it on XBOX. But this roll of not updating the version of XBOX, this is very disappointing. Future games will not buy.

They cannot, as the certification process has the potential to fail, resulting in the code being returned to address whatever concern is holding it up. At this point, they might know the fix or they might have to poke at it for a bit, and then resubmit -- all without certainty it will pass. It's consider a bad business practice to make promises and then have them slip, hence why they're quietly apologetic about the console side of things.

For what it is worth, I've heard on streams that the console patch will include Spirit and Opportunity. Whether that's the case when it launches, well.. we'll have to see. I'm in no rush just yet, however, as I've not hit anything game breaking in my experience. Have you?

where did "they" say that the console verification process was what was holding up the patch?

I think you're taking comments made here during a discussion about why patches for all platforms don't get released at the same time. we do not speak for the team working on the patch.

as you've pointed out, they say they're still working on the patch. its not in their best interest to make promises about when the patch will be released because if those dates aren't reached the complaining just grows exponentially. they're not going to be able to tell you exactly how many days after a PC patch the console patch will be ready because they don't know what other issues will arise during the process.

in the end it's enough for me to know they're working on the patch and doing their best to test and troubleshoot to get it right. if people can't wait, go play something else for a while, it'll be ready when it's ready.

It was explicitly stated by employees on the Facebook SM Fan page and implied on Twitter in late March. My request was simply for communication to be realistic or at least consistent. I'm happy to wait.

And honestly, in my experience dealing with these types of software releases that depend on a gatekeeper process it makes more sense to establish a regular release schedule (Monthly, Six times year, what have you) that takes the extended testing cycle into account. Handling it ad-hoc like this appears to be a big pain and I don't envy them.

I actually have experienced pretty much every bug that's been reported, though not always consistently.

  • Random crashing that seems to be tied to auto saving
  • Graphic stuttering, especially when there are large-ish numbers of drones and the game is moving faster than Normal Speed
  • Inability to fire workers because of a controller mapping issue (just disables the workshift instead)
  • Inability to access the alerts on the left hand side of the screen after starting from sleep

I don’t understand people like you. I’m loving the game. For granite don’t get to play as much as I would like, but just sick of reading games broken can’t play wish wouldn’t of bought. It was quite clear what the game was if you had done even a smidge of research. Stop crying consoles always take longest to get updates. We don’t have the glories of the PC.(miss the pc days). Updates gonna come game can be played. I’ve Focus on getting achievements and most times 200-300%diff. Sometimes more sometimes lower. Take a nice deep breath slow down and enjoy the fact we have something this freaking awesome to play on console. Just think about the possibilities of more games to come. Maybe even something new who knows. Crying doesn’t help explain what frustrates you. They obviously have heard what the community wants looking at PC. So can’t wait to see what’s to come on console!

A brief history of console update news thus far; console players will get patch "soon".; console players will get spirit update and bug fixes "soon".; console players will get update spirit, oppritunity, and bug fixes "soon".
Anyone else notice the trend of them just adding to the plate, but no release dates. At some point, someone has to stop adding on to the list, and get done what they started.
Frustration levels hitting a new high every week. I wasnt excited when I heard oppritunity was part of it also. As cool as those additions could be, a working game would be better. And hearing oppritunity was added, only means longer wait for needed fixes.

People have a right to be angry, the game has been out now for going on 2 months, with some game breaking bugs existing in the release that should have not been there in the first place, such as the controller mapping for managing work shifts. The PC have had a bug fix some 2 to 4 weeks ago. People would like to play the game the way its meant to be played and enjoy it without freezing and or stuttering issues. The game should have had a patch out within the first week or two at most to patch at least the more pressing issues. If other game companies can manage to do this why should paradox be exempt from it.

If they at least had some type of community interaction and or timeframe and or status reports, people probably wouldn't be so frustrated.

Understand that but not being able to close off a work shift is not game breaking other wise not one of use would get past first some. Just sick of hearing game is broken when people on consoles having 100ppl on 500diff settings.

But the game is broken my friend. When you have people working in shifts they have no skill for and you can not resupply because you don't have enough to send back to Earth for cash or can't even produce enough to maintain your own base and everyone starts to die of old age or hunger. Telling people that you were lucky enough to fire a shift and it be filled with the correct people is not any good. Not everyone is that lucky.

This doesn't get away from the fact that Paradox genuinely do not give a flying monkey's butt towards console players. This game is dead on console and I seriously doubt a delayed patch (delayed by how much we never know but by the way ot looks probably 6 months to a year at this point) will resolve that.

This game is a 'DO NOT TOUCH' for any prospective console players and I think anyone that has bought it should be able to get their money back due to the serious lack of support it has received.

I'm not going to argue with you, but the game is broken, and defending the devs is honorable but not wise. Suppose you just bought a new car, and you could not access the trunk in the car, nor the back seats, this is similar, sure it works but your missing the functionality of the full automobile. I'm sure there is a better analogy but its the best I could come up with quickly, and I'm sure you get the point.

Playing the game on high difficulty is extremely tough when you trying to make due with little population, and you want said population in the right location to ensure the colonists survives. I'm not saying its not possible buts its sooo much more difficult and requires a lot more micro-management, and even then most times you will fail only because work shifts couldn't be probably handled.

Hyperbole much?

I picked the game up on Xbox a few days back, and everything runs fine. A tutorial would have been nice, but I was able to get my first passenger shuttle planet side before sol 40. Game runs smooth, save the mild annoyance of the autosave. No crashes or obvious issues. More content would be nice, and I cannot wait for the game to evolve, but it's fine enough just the way it is to recommend a sale.

You do yourself a disservice by so vocally bashing the game, assuming you want it to have continued console support. This is very much Paradox testing the waters with console development, and we shouldn't be surprised to see it have a rocky start. I'm happy to suffer a slow launch, which they've acknowledged as problematic and askew from their desire, and support the game in the hopes more comes down the pike at a later date.

You might do yourself a service and read the thread to understand what people are complaining about. The game is faulty because there is no ability to manage the colony you have in this colony management game.

As to Paradox's ventures into Consol territory it is limited but it goes all the way back to the PS3 with Lead and Gold, Majica 2 on PS4 along with Cities Skylines and now Survivng Mars. I think they are well aquainted with it by now if not then they really need someone in their office to take a memory test or two.

Anyone know how I can get my money back for this game. I have been patiently waiting for 2 months for a patch so I can play a game I purchased.

And with paradox basically breaking my two other favorite games. I feel that paradox is becoming the new ea and I may have to boycott like I did ea. Since money seems to speak louder then words, I'll take my money elsewhere.
