Probably the VV install went badly. What version and checksum show on the main game menu?

I applied the patch, cleared the \map\cache\ directory, and started the game. The game loads to the main menu fine, but when I click on Single Player the game CTD. Any ideas?

Paradox don't pre-announce such things. In particular this patch is not ready to go live, as you have found; there will obviously have to be at least one more beta.

I wonder what am I doing wrong but when I download it I only get .rar file which includes localisation and map folders..? I assume I should have some sort of an executable to install the patch and as solved problems were hard coded I can't really find any sense in having said folders instead of it.

Any ideas? Did everyone else manage to download an exe file?

EDIT: Found the problem:

When extracting the .rar file I get 2 errors:

Code:
! C:\Users\Jontte\Downloads\Rome_v2-1.35.rar: CRC failed in gfx\cityview\objects\persiangfx\houses2.x. The file is corrupt
! C:\Users\Jontte\Downloads\Rome_v2-1.35.rar: Unexpected end of archive

and doing something after that makes it delete everything else but the localisation and map folders

It also gives the errors when I open the .rar file but it seems that it was possible to extract the files by "drag and drop" but that doesn't install the patch.

The file is fine this end, so your download must be corrupt. Try again.

Yes, it is pretty obvious that something is corrupt. What kind of a file I should get inside the rar? single setup.exe or a folder with stuff?

I've also downloaded it twice now, same thing both times. I'll try with 7zip or something next time to see if it's about my winrar..

It will look pretty much like the folder the game is installed in; romegame.exe and a bunch of .txt and .csv files in subdirectories.

Okay, then I got the right thing. And replacing old files with new ones should patch the game?

Well yes, if they didn't then you'd still be playing with the old ones. But you ought to copy your working Rome installation to a new place, like c:\games\rome-beta\ , and only apply the patch over that. Then if anything goes wrong you won't have to reinstall the whole thing again.

Thanks for the help, everything seems to be working now! :) The corrupt file was that persian cityview thing so I have a feeling that the game will crash if I open the city view but that's probably the most useless function in the game so it most likely won't be a problem :D

Now it's time to attack the new Magna Terra.. :3

I found a bit of weirdness that I thought I'd post regarding to an event I've just experienced. I'm playing as Rome and I've got the "I want to build a career" event that allows me to replace an aedile whose tenure is finished with a candidate offered up by the senate. The senate is controlled by the civic faction but the candidate is the leader of the mercantile faction. If I deny the appointment I gain one Populist senator. If I accept it, the civic faction (not the mercantile faction) gains three senators. I'm not positive that this is a bug but I don't recall ever seeing this event fire off in just this way. I apologize if this is working as intended.

Finally! I've been wanting the 'cascading alliances' issue fixed for a long time. Hopefully more improvements are well under way. Thank you very much, Paradox! (That rhymed :giggles: ) :D

Is this the last patch for Rome, or is there a final patch underway?
Given that there is at least one CTD in this patch, it would be safe to assume there will be at least one more beta. Once there's a stable beta, there will almost inevitably be an official patch release of that beta. When that might be is completely unknown by anyone, including Paradox.

Will this eventually get a final release for Steam version? Cascading alliances are game-breaking. :/
