I've a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 3, with Fedora 42 KDE on it. With 16GB swap space and lowest graphics settings, I can run Crusader Kings 3 on this laptop playably.

But Vic3 crashes no matter what. The best I've been able to achieve so far, by editing pdx_settings.json manually, copying from a version I found online, was to reach the new game creation screen, then it crashes when I attempt to create a new game.

Is it somehow possible to get the game to run on this machine? Would it perform better on Windows 10? CK3 is also a bit less capricious on Win 10, but Vic3 is tougher.

What I observe is, somehow Vic3 can't make use of swap space, it instead fills up the physical memory and when it is close to 100%, it results, as per the exception.txt file, in a SIGSEGV.

The game - any app in fact - has no say whatsoever about how swap space or memory are used, that's entirely the domain of the OS.

Minimum requirements are:
  • OS: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i3-3250 or AMD® FX 8370 (AVX support required)
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia® GeForce™ GTX 660 (2GB) or AMD® R7 370 (2GB) or Intel® HD Graphics 630 or AMD Radeon™ Vega 8

As the CPU and integrated Intel video system are well below those requirements, I don't think there's any chance of the game running, I am sorry!
