Backstory for Hellenic League. Give me your thoughts of what you think?
The Hellenic League, often simply known as Greece, is a nation composed of small city communes who by working together over the years formed strong military and economic bonds. While majority of Greece was untouched by nuclear fire that was set down by the actions of the Coalition, Axis and 4th International powers, the plague and internal conflicts that followed, ensured that no central government would be able to shape for almost 100 years. Currently, the League has its capital in New Athens, a new city on the island of Skyros, founded by each of the city-states and mainly populated by their politicians and prominent traders.
These are events that took place right after WW3 ended the world.
On the outbreak of World War III, the fledgling Hellenic State was not considered a serious threat by the Coalition, but its membership in Axis assured its being targeted by couple of missiles, nonetheless. Because of its threat level only four sites were targeted by Coalition nukes: Athens, the capital and military headquarters, Thessaloniki, headquarters of the Hellenic navy, Patra, headquarters of the Ionian fleet, and Larissa, headquarters of the Hellenic air force.
Members of the ruling party were warned of the impending strikes and managed to evacuate Athens before it was struck and moved government operations to Heraklion, on the island of Crete. A gathering order was issued for all Hellenic troops and ships not lost to gather at Crete. Several ships and planes were able to escape the strikes in the attacked areas due to advance warning and gathered at Crete, but the majority of the Hellenic military hardware in these four cities were destroyed or disabled. While the Greek government established themselves in Crete, social order began to break down throughout Greece.
In the Peloponnese peninsula a charismatic republican began speaking out, blaming the military dictatorship government for the hardships being endured by the population there. As the Hellenic forces became more organized they began to retake control of mainland Greece. Spurred by what they saw as aggression from the failed state, Nikolaos Michaloliakos and his followers declared the Delian League, after the ancient Greek alliance of the same name, and began fighting against the invading Fascist forces.
After some initial skirmishes with Delian forces, the Hellenic government decided to move up the eastern coast of Greece to try to retake easier targets and build themselves up for a fight with the united forces of League. The Hellenic pullout simply emboldened League though, with the Nikolaos Michaloliakos calling it a great victory and using it as a focal point for his propaganda. By 1988 the League encompassed nearly the entire Peloponnese peninsula and inciting the old glories of the Byzantine Empire, Nikolaos Michaloliakos began speaking of a Greece Empire in the Mediterranean. That very same year, with the support of military detachments, Nikolaos Michaloliakos carried out a coup against the Delian high command, and installed himself as Emperor of the now proclaimed Byzantium. 2 months later, the plague that had been devastating Western Europe, arrived in Greece, wiping out 3/4 of all population and putting an end to the unified Greece for the next 100 years. Now it is 2137, and for past 40 years, Hellenic League has endured as a unified nation against all external and internal threats. But new enemies have appeared at the borders and it seems that senate that has ruled with the upmost diligence is ever more failing.
