I am in awe too. :)

Still, let us focus on the meat we have been given today... ;)

Rather than summoning national armies and equipping them from the state pot, CK counts will take the revenue they’ve gleaned from their cut of the county’s royal taxes and actually buy the levy that they are obligated to provide under the terms of their fealty.

Most interesting.

Battles

There are far more troop types available as well – heavy cavalry, light horse, archers, heavy infantry, pikemen, and siege trains will populate your armies. Like a giant game of rock-paper-scissors, all will require special employment to reach their most useful potential. Combat itself will be a variation on EU’s theme, a linear progression of phases with certain units able to participate in each phase in turn.

Most interresting. There appears to be some new tactical elements here too. It will be interresting to see how this will be sorted, and how important the tactics are in what is supposed to be a grad strategy type game...

well, thanks guys!

After the nice email I got from Petrus, I hopped over here & saw the fora were open for CK.

Heartfelt thanks for all your nice comments about the preview. I was most impressed by the Paradox guys' answers. I mean, when you pose a question, mentally you usually think of an answer, right?

Well, their answers were completely thorough, incisive, and exactly what I wanted (the only exceptions being the many times that they had thought through a question further than I did...)

I grew more excited as I wrote the preview, and, well the interview answers just pushed me over the top.

Please ask away if you have any questions. I've read their design documents so I'll answer what I can. Knowing them, they'll hop in and complete/correct my feeble efforts where needed.

Again, thanks for reading the preview.

Thanks for the excellent previews, by the way. I think I may speak for all fans here. :)

Well, you could start by answering all questions asked on this forum, thread by thread. :D

Wow! this can be a really good game. I´m dying to play the Kingdom of Castile´s heroic reconquista against the moors. This is gonna be great. Any release date estimate?
I just have one worry, I hope it is very, very difficult to conquer land, please I don´t wanna see huge empires like in EU, I hope this gane frustrates conquer-the-world types.

The only thing I've seen was fall 2002. My guess is just in time for Christmas shopping :)

It will. Check out the preview (link in a sticky above) :)

I had no interest of a game in this timeline but the depth, politics, etc has changed my mind.:D

yeah! same for me.

::: DROOL::: :p :D

This looks absolutely incredible! I love the fact that it will be able to tie in w/EU2! And I love the comparison w/"Pirates!" (one the greatest games of all time) in terms of amassing power and wealth. I can easily see how one can find fun objectives in this game without feeling the need to build an empire.

I'm also wondering how they'll simulate the Mongol hordes. Will they be a new nation that suddenly appears on the map edge and procedes to take over other nations systematically... or will they be more like a roving horde of mercenarias wreaking havoc wherever they go but not settling anywhere?

I'm torn between wanting Paradox to release this ASAP so I can play it, and wanting them to take their time and perfect it as much as possible before releasing it.

It seems ironic that CK will be coming out right around the same time that another Medieval strategy game comes out, "Medieval Total War" (a sequel to Shogun). There haven't been any good Medieval conquest games since Castles II and now we have two coming out within months of each other. Both games look like they'll be incredibly fun. Man, my wife will never see me again after this fall! :D

After this Paradox will need to do a Dark Ages/Age of Vikings game from ~500 to 1066, and then a Roman game from ~200BC to AD500; with transferable files between each game so that we can play all they way from Hannibal to Napoleon in one neverending game. :D
