Perhaps someone could suggest what's wrong with my system.

I have absolutely no problem playing MP as long as I'm not hosting. I have a stable service provider (BT) and bandwidth isn't an issue (I have broadband), and in fact the game crashes when I host a 16 player game even before I get a chance to unpause. And it doesn't just crash, it literally causes my PC to reboot.

So everyone in the vnet screen selects - I press start. Connected msg appears for everyone, and just as the screen appears for the first proper in game display, my pc hardboots. Literally the whole pc just crashes and begins the reboot sequence.

I'm running windows XP. I have a pretty high spec pc. A P4 1.8Ghz, 256ram.

I don't suffer this sort of crash in any other situation and I hardly ever crash when I'm not hosting, and certainly don't get crashes that cause the whole PC to reboot.

Any ideas? I installed a fresh version of EU2 a couple of weeks back, along with DX9 which I thought had solved the problem. An attempt to hosting last night proved this was not the case.

try removing your network card from windows and then reinstall the complete network connection

I don't know if that is it, but since it only happens when you play mp it must somehow be linked to the network traffic.

You haven't messed around with your IRQ's, so that you your netcard shares Irq with some other device. ( this is probably only a problem if you have them assigned manually)

Thanks BiB and Kurtbrian.

As far as I can tell I've no IRQ conflicts - I always let windows work out what IRQ settings to set. What puzzles me is why the pc actually reboots. Anyone else get a complete PC reboot when EU crashes?

One of the settings in win2000/XP is that instead of the blue screen the computer simply reboots.

I'm at work so can't recall where you switch the setting off.

I think its somewhere in the menus after you click my computer--> properties.

I'll give you the exact option when I get home from work.

EDIT:
Right click My computer -->properties-->advanced-->settings for startup and recovery-->automatic restart.

try it out and see if you get a blue screen instead

Thanks Kurtbrian. I had the automatic restart box already checked. I've unchecked it. Well when I next get the error I'll see what happens :). I somehow don't think I'll be wasting 16 peoples time trying to host again for a while though just to get some diagnostic info :D.

I undertsnad, but I'm willing t help you out as a guniea pig sometimes saturday afternoon, just eitherpost here or pm me

Okay, sorry for the delay, MrT is away for awhile.

Has this issue been resolved?

Best bet is to ask in the MP forum, and see what the expert there have to say.
