problems with "UNKNOWN STRING VALUE" (??)

hi, i just downloaded the game from the online shop and im having some troubles with it.
i installed it and it was already patched with the latest version (1,04a i think). when i tried to play, i simply couldn't, because every button i tried to click read "UNKNOW STRINGVALUE WANTED" or something like that. i then installed the public beta patch 1.05 and it finally worked. i was able to play the game for a while. but it still has some problems. for instance, when i try to "construct a new building" (you know, when you click in a province to order a new building to be constructed), it still reads "UNKNOWN STRINGVALUE WANTED". its the same for my armies and the name of the soldiers...

i have the proper version of directx and my computer is very good, so i dont think the problem is with my hardware configurations...

PS: i have most of the paradox games, and this has never happened before.

any ideas??

PS2: by the way, this game looks great!! i hope i can enjoy it to the fullest!!



oops! forgot to say that i have the english version of the game. dont know if its important or not to say it...
 
First I should probably move this to the Ondemand support forum, since it most likely is a problem with that specific version since I have not seen this reported before.

However lets look at a few things first.
You mention it is the "English Version"

Does that mean you have a different language support installed for your Windows?
Did you try reinstalling the game?
 
actually, i just realised that the installation process itself is all faulty in this downloaded version. whenever i try to install the game, it says "Do you want to install Victoria on your PC?" its really weird...
so the installation goes on without problems, and im able to get inside the game (its already patched for version 1.04a). as i said before, all buttons read "UNKNOWN STRING WANTED".
ok then i downloaded the 1.05 beta patch and most buttons are now readable, except for those i mentioned before (armies, laws of the country, constructable/constructed buildings).

so i think this must be an installation problem... i imagine if i had the files where the building names/army unit names/laws names, i could completely fix this.

but its so weird... my computer doesnt recognise the installation and the proof is that whenever i try to install an update - i tried to re-install 1.04a - it says the game isnt even installed in the first place!!

any thoughts??? maybe if i could get those files i mentioned, i could fix this, but its really really strange...

No this is a language problem.

You need to set all the language options in windows to English(us) if that does not work try English(UK).

But completely wipe the game from your system first including making sure that all registry entries are gone.
 
Hi, I have the same problem "unknown string wanted" on all buttons.

I bought the game at a well established convenience store.

My computer is mexican and language configuration in spanish. I do not want to change my language configuration to English.

Tech support in Mexico said there is a patch for this, please give me instructions to fix the problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled twice before calling support here in Mexico.

If they told you there was a patch for this then please ask them to direct you to it, since it is unknown to me.

For I just bought the game and am experiencing the same difficulties.
"Unknown String Wanted" on all buttons.
Version is english 1.04a. Windows XP, Language German.
