Japan advanced down the Malayan peninsula, mainly using troops from Siam, but the UK landed troops and pushed them back and annexed Siam with the help from Indian forces. Hong Kong not regularly falling is one of the issues we have with the AI, but not the biggest. It will be looked at but probably after the 0.40 version comes out.

Ah. The lack of pics between 1941 and 1944 was the problem then.

Did Japan ever attack the northern Philippine islands or the Dutch East Indies?

Japan does attack the Northern Phillipines, but not always, and not usually in enough strength to capture them. The Phillipines seem to build quite a few land units, making them quite difficult to conquer.

With regards to the Dutch East Indies - in this case the Japanese AI is usually busy trying to achieve other objectives in China or Phillipines and usually doesn't get around to invading the DEI. We are aware of the shortcomings, but at present we are keen to get 0.40 out and try to sort out the Japanese AI issues in 0.41

With regards to China, Japan still usually makes deep advances there and in some cases annexes them late in the war. More work is still needed to balance this theatre, and China will be looked at in further updates to 0.40 At present the AI is performing OK and there are other more pressing issues to resolve.

With the new invasion rules set in 1.3 Armageddon beta we are playing around with the invasion limitations and restrictions to make sure that amphibious invasions have a good chance of success if backed up with enough troops. Hopefully this will assist Japan, the UK and USA as well as others.

Thanks for informing us about the progress.

Will the 0.4 still have present 0.3.2 economic model for the countries? I found that the best part of the core and a main reason I really like that mod.

How many people actually work on the latest version?

AFAIK the economic models have been reworked for 0.40, and there was quite a lot of time devoted to getting the balance right. Lately there has been some tweaking with the Italian trades and resources, as they were running short of energy in some cases. The CORE developer team can answer this in more detail for you. :D

General update:

The main issue holding the release up is the tendency of some countries, mainly Germany, to stack masses of units on coastal provinces waiting to be transported, or to invade. These super stack bleed units away from building up on their required fronts and delay declarations of war eg. Balkans and Barbarossa. Some of the behavior is hard-coded and we're trying to find ways to stop the AI behaving the way it does. It's very frustrating because it upsets the game completely and there is no easy fix. The developers are busy trying to find a work around to solve it, but some things are at the mercy of the hard code.

The main economics were reworked in terms of the IC and resources, based on historical data. It's a change from 0.32, but it should be a development, not a drastic alteration from what you have seen before. Industrialised nations use Energy & Oil to run their trains, cars, etc and power their cities.#

The main CORE developer team is probably about 5 or 6 people, I guess.

I just wish you would release whatever you have so that we can play it at least a little before HoI3 is around the corner... :(
We won't hold off releasing for much longer as far as I'm concerned, the more so as we can always fiddle and improve upon things in a 0.4.1 release as well as in a 0.4.0 release. So we're trying to get the stacking problem toned down to a level which we'll regard as being acceptable, and as things stand should be pretty much near that goal. We're planning on releasing a new beta this weekend, and hopefully that will be the last. As a bonus this beta will be fully 1.3b2 compliant (or at least it should be).

An open beta would be counter-productive with respect to the release itself. Besides I still have to get some last-minute naval imagery in first.

But as far as itching goes we're itching to get the show officially on the road sooner rather than later. So we'll do our utmost to keep the remaining beta period as short as possible. :)

I recently tested HSR,WIF and TRP but having fallen in love with the CORE techtree I just couldnt accept their solutions. While some of the mods felt "okay" its just not the same.

Looking forward to the new version. Now I'll go play my old core again.

I know the feeling. :D You can always apply for our Beta program as well though. It won't make much of a difference for 0.4.0 I reckon, but there surely will be a 0.4.1.

Thanks for the tip but nah. I'd just sign up for getting to test the new version, and even though I'm quite amazing and modest :p, I feel I wouldn't be as productive as I'd like to be with the actual testing and reporting at the moment.

Besides, is it possible to signup for waiting list even if the team is full?

No rush....

I'd rather you fix the stacking problem then rush it out the door. I've played several mods with this issue and it is really annoying (for example, when Germany is AI controlled, AI Hungary and AI Romania keep almost all of their units in one big stack in their capital. Unrealistic and it destroys the game because these 50 odd units could be used!)

Progress looks great, though (judging by the pictures). Keep up the good work!

Well I'm uploading the latest Beta as we speak - let's hope that's the last one we need before being able to actually release.

All I hear is crickets..................

The way things have been lately is that as soon as a new beta patch comes out for Armageddon, the changes in the .exe file and other files are creating new problems which in turn need to be tracked down and rectified. It's frustrating work because the CORE devs fix the bugs ready for another beta test, and then more bugs appear due to the new changes in the Armageddon patch. There are now some issues with the 1.3 beta 2 for Armageddon which are getting ironed out. Since one of those issues is a fatal crash I'm sure you'll agree that it needs to be sorted out before we can release CORE 0.40 to the public. We're very close to releasing but the Armageddon patch changes need to be incorporated each time, which has held up progress. Thanks everyone for your patience :)

Nah - CORE 0.40 for Armageddon is going to kick ass when it's done! (At least until HOI3 arrives :D)
