Nah - CORE 0.40 for Armageddon is going to kick ass when it's done! (At least until HOI3 arrives :D)

Will the CORE 4.0 AI be any different from the TRP/WIF mods? And , if so, please list the differences. While I quite understand why they made the various modifications, I have to admit I got a little too frustrated by the artificial combats, the huge overemphasis on partisan activity(which wasn't quite as all-powerful in WWII) etc. I'm hoping CORE will be completely different in its approach - more intelligent ai(ie d-day landings in early 1940s if there are not enough german units in france invasion of northern germany in 1939 if northern coast not garrisoned etc.) while still not giving too many unrealistic benefits to enemy ai units. Up to this point, the trp mod was unplayable as it CTDed when I added some random events to the file(all other mods accepted them, no problems), the wif mod became unplayable as poland had to be garrisoned with c.10+ land unis at all times after conquest just to deal with 1 lousy partisan unit, which would appear practically every week of gametime, and in both trp and wif I would be reduced to trench-warfare when attacking france/belgium with no chance of winning until 141 at the earliest, despite having vastly greater air-superiority ec. So much for blitzkrieg.

The 1 mod I was quite impressed with was daim because it didn't cheat. On the other hand, other than a few wheezed such as a minor british invasion of occupied norway and axis-allied portugal, not much else happened.

Dec's the one who could enlighten you best on the AI's setup, but it's an AI specifically designed for CORE first and foremost. :)

The way things have been lately is that as soon as a new beta patch comes out for Armageddon, the changes in the .exe file and other files are creating new problems which in turn need to be tracked down and rectified. It's frustrating work because the CORE devs fix the bugs ready for another beta test, and then more bugs appear due to the new changes in the Armageddon patch. There are now some issues with the 1.3 beta 2 for Armageddon which are getting ironed out. Since one of those issues is a fatal crash I'm sure you'll agree that it needs to be sorted out before we can release CORE 0.40 to the public. We're very close to releasing but the Armageddon patch changes need to be incorporated each time, which has held up progress. Thanks everyone for your patience :)
just stop incorporating patch changes for a minute? My amra isn't fully patched, I haven't played the game in a while. I only play 3-4 games vanilla. Then I play games on the best overhaul mod(s) out there. But there's no new CORE so I haven't been playing hoi since the last version came out.

With HoI3 on the horizon, you might as well just release a candidate that's a little old but stable. Update when you have everyone playing and making bug reports.

I mean even with your mods on, I cheat a little. Write my own events, that kind of thing. The HoI2 engine isn't perfect, hence all the expansions and patches. It never will be. That's why there's a 3 coming out. And that one won't be perfect either.
My own two cents is that you should understand, that we'll understand, and just build some hype

Keeping up-to-date with the latest patch isn't a goal in itself... By-and-large migrating towards it solves issues that were giving us a headache (like the ghost fleet problem), but introduced some smaller ones on it's own. In all it sets us back a little, but not too much IMHO.
Right now we're getting to the stage that good certainly is good enough. So if nothing major is preventing the official release of 0.4.0 I'll personally do my utmost to make it happen. We can always perfect things further in a later release. Whether we actually crossed the 'T' at this moment is still somewhat unclear, as we had some CTD issues in the latest Beta (as far as I can gather now resolved), which set back the progress of the latest Beta test round somewhat.

Please, fellas! I'm on vacation and just hanging around the house (in the rain) this week. Throw us a bone today or tonight with 0.4.0! This has been a LOOONNNGGGG wait. :)

@Makif130289 - The stacks issue seems to have been sorted out, but I haven't tested the new beta more than a couple of times so far. IMO the only major issue stopping release is the early entry of the USA, which is being resolved. Seems to be related to the new spy system and belligerence.

It's all starting to come together very nicely though. The CORE developers can give you a much more informed idea of where we are at, but I don't think I'm going too far to say it should be out soon. Fingers crossed that no other major hiccups occur. :D

Waiting

We all are. But I know from experience that this is worth waiting for. I want to also thank the CORE team for doing a great job at communicating with us about the development of the beta. Many mod's fail to even update, let alone let the fans know about it!

Well I know how frustrating it can be waiting for a mod, especially one with such high expectations as CORE. I'm really honoured to be able to help out with the beta testing for this mod. I try to put myself in your shoes and realise that it helps to know why things are taking as long as they are. That's why Hagar and myself are happy to answer your questions and keep you informed as much as possible. I know we keep saying it lol but the end is definitely in sight, and once this last major obstacle is over we should be releasing very soon. I'm sure Hagar can answer things better than me though, since I'm only a humble beta :)

Well I presume you've seen more of the actual end result so far than I have. So I really appreciate your feedback, the more so as it gives more credibility to the fact that we are on the home stretch here. If only we could have something of a predictable baseline we would communicate it, but given the AI and patch issues it's next to impossible to get some form of credible baseline in somehow.

Seconded :)

Keep up the good work, it is highly appreciated.

There are always things that can be worked on and/or improved, but we have resolved almost all of the game breaking events or AI behavior. Once 0.40 is released I'm sure we'll get lots of feedback on what else can be improved.

We will be looking at Japan and the Pacific in later updates, but ATM Japan is overperforming in China and underperforming in the Pacific. I have run dozens of handsoff tests with the various beta updates and what I'm seeing now is a very stable game running up to Barbarossa, especially in Europe. After that of course anything is possible depending on player actions.

The main emphasis we wanted to achieve is for the war to run in a fairly historic and realistic way, and for the player to make decisive choices to influence the game in their countries favour. Getting the game to run as historically as possible was a major challenge for the CORE team with lots of setbacks with AI quirks, but we have things running very smoothly now. We are all committed to releasing a game that will be a nice challenge for the player, but also with an eye to historical realism with regards to events and AI actions. Having said that, there will always be limitations with the HOI2 AI, which is why so many people are eagerly anticipating the release of HOI3.

Right now its a matter of tidying up a couple of issues and waiting for the final 1.3 Armageddon patch. I can't say whether CORE 0.40 will be released before the Armageddon patch is finalized - that's a decision for the CORE developers. I'm sure one of them can let you all know one way or the other. :)

Here are a couple of screen shots of Barbarossa in 1941 to whet your appetites! Finland has joined the Axis and has reached the gates of Leningrad, while the Germans are advancing to the gates of Moscow. General Winter is about to make his presence felt.
