How about Revolutionary Mexico?
I must admit to not knowing a thing about the Mexican Revolution before now either, but I've just done a bit of reading. Here's a summary:
In 1910, the Mexican Revolution began against the dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz. The rebels fell into two main groups: Francisco Madero led a group of northern landowners with radical views (democracy, land reform) while Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata led more extreme peasant revolutionaries. By 1911, Diaz had fallen and Madero became President.
However, Madero was overthrown and murdered in 1913 in a right-wing coup led by General Huerta. Leadership of the northern radicals passed to Venustiano Carranza, who enjoyed US support. In 1914 American troops occupied Vera Cruz and forced Huerta to resign - soon afterwards Carranza took power.
However, Carranza soon fell out with his former allies Villa and Zapata, and fighting broke out. By 1916 the Zapatistas were defeated, but Pancho Villa still held out. That year he led a raid into US territory - the USA then launched a retaliatory raid into Mexico which turned into a full-blown punitive expedition against Villa. They had Carranza's reluctant support for this, but relations declined rapidly and before long US troops were clashing with Mexican Government forces as well as Villa's rebels.
In early 1917 the USA withdrew its forces from Mexico, but relations with Carranza's government were permanently soured - something that the discovery of the Zimmermann Telegram didn't exactly help. However, Carranza remained in power until 1920 when he was overthrown by a coup led by his former right-hand man General Obregón. Plutarco Calles then became President, organising the 'National Revolutionary Party' to unite all elements of the radical left under one banner. This effectively ended the civil war.
In HoI terms, I suppose Huerto would lead the Fascist Cabinet for Mexico and Carranza the Democratic Cabinet. Zapata and Villa would be the Communist (Left Wing Radical) Cabinet for Revolutionary Mexico. I predict lots of Black, Blue and Red Shadows in the minister files![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
