Well lets try and solve the problem so it does not crash in the first place. ;)

Okay if 75 was better lets try a higher one.
and yes Dxdiag will fail the test after a crash because it has not been reset, the game will not load after a crash like that either, for the same reason.

Ok, but I have the impression that when I bump the refresh rate, EU2 works like more forced... is it possible? I was thinking to try with a lower refresh rate in order to check if it changes sth.

I have also got a software, "Hot CPU Tester" in order to try to get any other information. As fas as I know it provides a deep PC analyse (it lasts for several hours) and checks even de motherboard... I'll let you know the results...

This is incredible...

Okay let me know.

Well, it seems that more or less the problem is moderately solved, as I've been playing for more than 1,5 hours and any problem. What did I do? Everything you've see, and other things that I do not think have any influence on the subject (defragmentation, files erase, etc). One main change I've done is that I asked for a friend its EU2 version (it's Strategy First one, which it seems to be the Northamerican one).
Now, I'm playing in 60Hz. So I don't know if it coulb be either the version, but I do like more this one as there are some options I couln't do with Spanish one.
So, at the moment, everything's going on...
But I'm sure there's a problem in the computer... I'll try to take it to a technician...
Thank you very much again... without your aid and interest (specially to Castellon, who, by the way has a nick like a city in my region in Spain... don't know if this is the reason), and hope to see you in other threads and not Tech Support any more (that would be very good news)

Why???

Hi !!
Once my problems seemed to be solved, I have noticed CTD very often. They seem to be random ones...
Where can I check these problems for Strategy First version?

Top three tips to avoid random CTDs are as follows:
1) Rename the EU2 AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set color depth to 16BIT
3) Make sure nothing is running in the background. like Virus protection, ICQ/messanger ...

thanks again.
I've noticed that when I switch off the music it's rare to have the CTD, so it coulb be a question of music... but I can't get more recently drivers, so I guess I should keep playing without music...

You could play it in another application such as winamp.

I think I know why it happens (and it coulb be useful for future threads). There's a system that launches in the notebook in order to prevent freezes. So, when the computer reaches an specific temperature or has worked on maximum CPU during a certain time, it launches a shutdown system in order to avoid bigger problems.
So, the point is to know how to manage the temperature or to identify the exact problem. I do not have the answers, but anyway, updating the drivers (BIOS and all the others) and installed some application programmes, I got good results. However, it goes on with shutdown with some films and it I try to test the CPU with specific programmes...
Nevertheless, I want to thank again to those who have helped me... and of course, still researching the way to avoid the shutdowns!!

Yes I have heard that before, often they will just cycle down the speed when they overheat as well. If yours is doing it on a regular basis I would send it in for service.
