  • Magicka
Hi! I have recently bought Magicka, but I have a big problem that makes impossible to play all the adventure. When chapter two should start, after the level completed message the game immediately crash to desktop, without saying anything.

I know that there are also other people with the same problem and so far is useless to do again the level (also using different wizard classes), re-install the game, verify the integrity of the game cache or change settings.

I SUPPOSE that the crush is connected with the fact that the life bar of the wizard doesn't disappear when he goes ahead after the troll boss (Ygg), but, if you pay attention, it's still visible. It's like if the character doesn't go far enough, he doesn't totally "exit" from the screen like it's possible to see in many video of gameplays.

Does anyone know how is possible to resolve this problem? If yes, thanks in advance! (I'm sorry if there are some mistakes, but english isn't my first language) (also this is my first post and I hope this is the right section)

Last thing, here there's the last errorReport:

After open the thread I have seen that in the sub-forum there's a similar one with the same question, sorry. I don't understand really much about graphics cards, I just know that I have a Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics. Is it bad? As before, thanks in advance!

I am also having the same issue!

Well, it is good to know at least that I am not the only one with this issue on Magicka, and I also have an integrated graphics card (specifically, an Intel(R) HD Graphics Family, with Approx. Total Memory of 1696 MB).

Sadly there can be a lot of these problems when running the game on Intel HD Chipset's :/ If you have less than 256MB in the dedicated memory section you are not even meeting the hardware requirements really :/

Sadly, even if you have a more powerful version, you may still have problems. I can only refer to the tips and tricks that are posted in this forum as well as the Steam one.

This is just a wild guess. But you could try to install DirectX 9 (you can have it together with 11, so you don't need to downgrade. Just run it paralell): http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

Using 11 caused problems with PDS games requiring DirectX 9 and installing that version solves the issue there. Thought it could at least be worth a try! Please let me know if you have any luck with it.

Last time I tried to use directx 9 in parallel with another version, I had to format my computer.

So, I wouldn't recommend it but, maybe it was just me.

I haven't heard of issues like this :/ I've done it on at least 3 computers without problems.

But if you had problems. Please let me know about their nature. Maybe there is some serious issues with doing this.

Hello. I had a similar problem to you when attempting to play on my laptop with intelHD graphics. I recently have managed to get magicka to work by updating the drivers on my intelHD graphics. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/f/driverupdate.htm

My laptop (dell), actually hadn't downloaded any graphics driver updates since 2011, and the update feature told me it was up to date, so check with your computer manufacturor website to see what the latest graphics drivers are. Check the date of the latest update against the date of your version. You can also update your drivers through intel's website http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect . Of course this is all at your own risk, remember to back up.

As I said, I did this and am able to play magicka on my laptop even though integrated graphics aren't supported. I only play 800x600 windowed though.

Sorry for sort of "necrophilia" with this old post, but it's takes first line in google on query "magicka crashes after first level".

Fixed this issue by:
1. Downloading https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24695/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-8-1-32bit in .zip .
2. Unzip to any folder.
3. Control panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager -> Display adapters -> Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 -> right click -> Update Driver Software -> Browse my computer -> set path to uzipped driver folder -> next -> wait -> reboot .
4. Everything is work!

At least with TOSHIBA Satellite C660-1TE Intel HD Graphics 3000 on Win7x64; game version 1.4.16.0 .

I tried to play Magicka with my brother but we ran into the same problem.
...but he is playing on a desktop PC with a Radeon X1600 graphics card and the OS is WinXP 32-bit. We tried installing the latest drivers but to no avail.
I hope sombody here has an idea- we would really like to continue playing the game.
