Malik al-Muazzam Radoslav (1221-1230)
What did the wife say to her husband with two black eyes?

Nothing she hadn't told him twice already.

The way she's glaring, she looks like she has a few more arguments to make.

An almost perfect Rurikid. If only Norse Germanic. Ruled nine years, dead at twenty-two, lost top title. The Mongols are BIG and SCARY! Thanks
The Mongols at this point did scare me shitless. They've obliterated Byzantium...I might have forgotten to mention that.
Radoslav wasn't a coward, he knew that if he fought the Mongols it would only hasten his demise as the ruler of the empire.
True. What is one lost ally against no war with the one superpower in the world?
Here’s betting Daniil’s new shoes are going to be walking a difficult path, very soon.
Curious. Why would you say that. ;)
Somehow I doubt your new ruler will be an improvement. Each subsequent monarch seems to spiral a little bit more into their dynasty’s perpetual curse.
Soon you'll know for sure! :D

Hehe, he died with injuries, for sure. Was it due to the wifey? Well...;)

Hmmmm.....;)

Terenity the Haunted was a solid enough effort, he lost points for his long reign of course but losing your entire army three times is worth many Rurikid points. Being posessed is just sort of par for the course.

Radoslav however was doing things properly. Constant war, wife who looks disgusted at his mere existence and then losing the entire Empire. Top Tier Rurikid-ing.

On which note Daniil is also showing promise, engaging in bloody and counter-productive dynastic warfare while the Mongols at the gates is just the sort of idiocy one looks for in a Rurikid.

Finally my guess for the surprise Horde Religion is Zoroastrianism.

Terentiy lost his army three times? He must be the laughingstock of Eurasia!

Do Radoslav and his descendants retain any lands? Could they become a problem again later?

The Mongols conquered the ERE? Could we see a Mongol successor state in the Balkans?

Could the surprise Horde religion (TM) be Orthodoxy?

If it was CK2, I would be guessing Messalian Mongol Empire so that the sons of the Great Khan could marry without spending a fortune to ensure that the bride was not a product of Genghis and a conquered maiden.

I like how we're counting Rurikid points now. :D Daniil was gambling, for sure. But now he's top dog and surely nothing can go wrong.

Good guess, but it is not! The Mongols will divide in three, and not everyone follows the same religion. I will say that.

Terentiy was lucky he had such dedicated allies!

Radoslav only lost the empire. He retained his demesne.

Mongols indeed conquered Byzantium. They are no more. Will they retain Anatolia? Well...

Another good guess on religion, but sadly, no. ;)

Everyone is not (yet) Genghis' offspring. :p

  • Daniil was an interesting character. Ruthless, for sure. His predecessor Radoslav declared war for the empire the year after he lost it, and months later he is found murdered by unknown assailants? Pretty obvious, if you ask me.
  • But Daniil must have had second thoughts, being plagued by regrets, I wager, for after Radoslav’s death he began walking the castle, moaning and generally acting possessed.

  • On December 13th, 1235 Daniil could count his blessings, though. The Great Khan Ogodei was dead, and the Mongol Empire split in three. The Golden Horde bordered Russia and was Ash’ari Muslim like Russia. Chagatai became Vaishnavite, a type of Hinduism. And then, the main Khan, controlling the core area, but with its powerbase in the Middle East, Mongolia: The country ruling Mecca and Medina, became Zhengyi, a branch of Daoism. Soon after this, Mecca itself converted to Zhengyi Daoism, to the horror of the Muslim world!
  • Despite the moaning and wandering, Daniil brought peace to Russia, a first for a long time, and prosperity reigns. Incredible! Surely must have been a flux?
  • In 1243 Daniil even dares to do what no Malik al-Muazzam of Russia had done before him: doing a Hajj to Mecca, the now Daoist, yet open to Muslims, city. He seems to have done everything right, sacrificing a lot of camels, cutting his hair, praying well and piously and so on. Some even called him prophet-like! Does that mean prophets can be acting possessed? I guess it makes sense..

  • From 1247, after Daniil had come back to Russia, some expansion came when he waged war into Finland. But only after the Leporie, a country in Sami Finland, declared a doomed war on him. Seems to have awakened something?
  • But then it was over. In 1250 Daniil died of a seizure and his son Ingvar “the Cruel” inherited Russia.

Uh oh. I wonder if there will be a Jihad to reclaim it or will the Daoists rule to the end.

I am too far away, so it will not be on my watch. Not at this moment in time, for sure. :) I mean, can you even SEE Russia on that map? :D

Upon looking at the map, I don't think that Russia should be considered an Empire, Ruthenia has a better claim.

The mighty has fallen far, and Ruthenia is de jure Russian, but obviously some work needs to be done.

Daniil is no true Rurikid, ruled twenty years, lived to fifty-two called "Gracious". Must be a hybrid. What is a Lyuban? Ingvar the Cruel shows promise. Thanks
No wars, no massive rebellions, I agree he is a very poor Ruikid. Worst of all though, his wife isn't staring at him in abject disgust. I fear this Lyuban blood.

On the more positive side, a few retrospective points for Radoslav for returning as a ghost to possess/haunt his murderer.
