Oleg ruled two years dead at twenty-three, a proper pinky Rurikid.

Yefimiy ruled four years dead at seventeen, another pinky Rurikid.

Sviatopolk twice got kicked out of emperorships, forced to marry a Rurikid (matrilineally, of course). Are the new Rurikids of Russia still Islamic and Ruthenian? Norse Germanics would be ideal! How 'good' can you be to go from Emperor at age three to dying fifty-three years later as a count. This is the equivalent to being born on the one-foot line and spending your life running to the wrong goal-line.

Thank you for the update.
The new Rurikids are Islamic yes, but I believe they are Russian culture. Thanks for the comment!
Came down to say that I think dude married a Zombie.
Maaaybe?
Russian History Wars: Return (or Revenge) of the Rurikids.

Also, welcome to @ANGELS4EVER70
Coming in theatres this July.
The Pesky Pinsk Pretenders peter out! Good to see the Revenge of the Rurikids (as @StrategyGameEnthusiast noted).
It was a welcome change. Will it end in a better Russia, though?
In the eyes of the Pinsk, yes. However, we all know this started with the Rurikids and they are the true dynasty that needs to hold this throne.
All hail the Line of Rurik, true rulers of the Russias!
Good to see this Norse uprising contributing to the end of the Pesky Pinsk.
Catholic I think. ;)
Perhaps his title is just relative to the rest of the Pinsk line? So as there was no reported incest or child murder that made him "The Good" compared to the rest of his awful dynasty? And of course he removed his dynasty from the throne that they had stolen, which is a Good act in itself.
Good point. Must be it!

"I didn't murder all my progeny! Saint me!"

As nice as it is to see the Rurikids back on the throne, Sviatopolk really deserved better.

Let's hope the Rurikids aren't cursed anymore :D!

Malik al-Muazzam Frothi “the Foreigner” of Russia
Malik al-Muazzam Frothi “the Foreigner” of Russia (1193-1199)

  • I notice the short reign in the opening slide. Seems the Rurikid comeback does not mean longer, successful reigns?
  • He is old, one-legged, have a dimished realm. Quite the start, Rurikids!
  • He was prestigious but used much of it in rapidly declaring wars to try to rebuild the realm.
  • It didn’t go more than six years of warring before the old goat died of camp fever during the siege of one of his enemies, though.
  • His son inherits, and is ominously nicknamed “the Haunted”. Doesn’t bode well, but then again Frothi was nicknamed “the Foreigner” and he was arguably more national than any ruler before him, being a Russian? Weird medieval people…

Surely this comeback will be short-lived if they don't reign for longer and accomplish more.

Frothi the Old Goat... reminds me of the "Frothy Goat" milkshake from Doug, the coming-of-age cartoon from two decades ago. Nothing quite like a frothy goat milk milkshake to trigger your gag reflex!

And yeah... really weird for a native Rus' to be "the Foreigner" in Russia.

Time will show. But it is omnious indeed.

Goat milk is delicious! Why gag?

The foreigner bit might be because the old rulers were Ruthenian, I don't know?

Sixty-one for a Rurikid male is ancient. Six years is longer than a Rurikid needs on the throne to prove his worth (or lack). Thank you for the update. Will the student be open for a study session before the final exam?

They're back! And they've not lost the old magic; short reign, lack of any real large achievements, lots of war, offspring that promises madness, it's all there. I do also wonder if it is his name that is triggering the nickname?

Also I do have to congratulate the trait generator - a one legged character described as 'balanced'. 10/10 score, no notes.

So a one-legged tsar engages in constant warring and then dies of camp fever? Sounds like the Rurikids are back, baby, and they're playing the hits.

She has for some time, I'd say. :p
Finally a Rurikid with the nickname they all needed
They all are, in some way, haunted, are they not? :D

I miss the real old rulers though. :)

Back, with a vengance! :D I think the balanced part describes something else than pure physical balance btw. :p

Yep. Now if they can just keep their empire....we'll see. :)

RIP the Pinsk. Hopefully the Rurikids can restore Russia to glory!

How did Sviatopolk become known as the Good? Was he good for rolling over and accepting the end of his empire?

Will the Pinsk be remembered as pretenders? History is written by the victors, after all...

How much of Russia did Frothi recover?

Semi hiatus will continue, I think, but I am on my phone a few times a day, so thus semi. I am on my PC for a few minutes now to write though. The urge got me. :)

Russia? Restored? Perhaps. In time. First, we'll see the second time of troubles! :D

Sviatopolk the Good was humbled by his...humbling and became a dedicated philanthroper in his own right. I guess. :p

The Pinsk will be remembered as a side track!

Frothi did not, in fact, recover all that much. The Gardariki the kingdom (shortly AFTER he died, though), plus a few smaller areas.

  • A longish reign? Curious. And he’s possessed through it all, as well. Thus “Haunted”, I guess.
  • Captures the Gardariki ruler in the ongoing siege a few days after his father dies, thus almost doubling Russia in size!
  • A year into his reign he is faced with a dissolution demand, which war will last until 1204. During this time he also sees two wars against him for the Russian throne and a Crusade against him and Khazaria, which controls most of the contested lands between Russia and the Catholics.
  • He manages to lose his entire army thrice. THRICE. In these wars, and wins his wars on the back of his steadfast allies.
  • In the end, only the Forever Crusade, as it was called, remained and it would last almost 20 years, before the Catholics wins in 1220.
  • Meanwhile, the Mongols have been conquering almost unnoticed by both the Catholics and Russia in the east, as the Forever Crusade is taking all their attention.
1721044847564.png

  • In 1221 Genghis Khan dies, controlling a vast empire from central Mongolia and China all the way to Khazaria and the Byzantine Empire. Persia is done for, as is Arabia. At this point the Mongols are not finished with their conquering spree, though, and the world trembles!
1721044855460.png

  • Not Terentiy though, as he dies the same year as Genghis Khan of a fatal apoplexy and is succeeded by his 12-year-old Radoslav.
