surely it was for the best for his subjects.
Nice of the student to care about the subjects.

Then, being old, he dies. His oldest son Stanislav “the Insane” inherits Russia and his second son Yuriy inherits Khazaria. Good graces, next lecture is a must to attend, I think.
Aaaaand there it is.

Malik's queen's attire seems to indicate she's from India
She must get cold in winter. Well, as the French say, on doit souffrir pour être belle.

Peace is good. Too bad his son has already earned a reputation for insanity.
Pardon my French, but it is all but non existent. ;)
Some quick Googling says it means something like "Beauty is pain" or "We must suffer to be beautiful." So the Russian queens have to suffer with their exposed midriffs in cold Russia.

It appears the Pinsk dynasty has two settings - evil or boring. This is not endearing them to me, so I am still hoping for the impossible and a Rurikid returning to the throne at some point in the future

That said, "The Insane" is a promising moniker so there is a small chance Pinsk can turn things around but I doubt it.

Twelve years, a Pinsk that is starting to act like a Rurikid. I have high hopes for Stanislav. He could eat his brother and restore the dual Empire. Like a true Rurikid, he would then die before age forty of food poisoning. Thanks for the update.

Technically he got the lunatic trait nine years in, but sure. :D

Thanks! Didn't have the time to do more than a quick reply session this morning. :)
At least the student wants to attend the next lecture. I suppose civil wars, like car wrecks or train wrecks, are hard to look away from.
Weird, right? ;)

Who knows (I do!)?

His reign will be....interesting. Probably in the Chinese way of the curse. ;)

He will do wild stuff. Although, eat people? Hmmmm, we'll see. ;)
Aahhh, Stanislav the Insane, he must be the ruler that will kick start the Golden Age off Russia.
*looks at notes*
*pales*
*sighs*
...sure. :p

Yes, precisely this. "One must suffer to be beautiful." See also: corsets (even if the historical dramas exaggerate), lead face paint, eating arsenic trioxide to "improve" the complexion, high heels, foot-binding, cranial deformation...and wearing choli lengha in Russian winter.

If real history is anything to go by, killing one's heir-apparent in a fit of rage is great for kicking off Russian golden ages.

Without being Rurikids per se, they still manage to put a slip a Rurik and then Rurikovich in their names, at least. With shortening reigns, civil wars, madness etc I think they qualify as true Heirs of Rurik and honorary membership of the club! :D

  • So this is an interesting figure. He is a lunatic, for one. Professor say we’ll come to that. The moment he gains the throne, he is declared dissolution, independence, lower crown authority wars on in short succession. Talk about being popular.
1720210991904.png

  • Nine years later all the wars are actually over. Either won or white peaced out. Impressive.
  • And here we have it: His brother, the ruler of Khazaria, just dies under mysterious circumstances. Is Stanislav involved? History never figured it out. I know which horse I’d bet on.
  • And wouldn’t you believe it, troublesome people keeps dying, en masse.
  • New civil wars come and go, but Stanislav wins them all.
  • Apparently, all these wars make him basically bankrupt. Cripples his armies’ fighting prowess, but he somehow has allies.
  • In a fit of insanity and rage over his son and heir embracing the Sami culture, he imprisons him and executes him for all to see!? Now, this is both intriguing and grotesque…
  • And then he imprisons and murders his second son, the new heir, too.
  • And then he murders his fourth son. Third remains new heir, but probably was shitting his pants!
  • And another son is murdered, this being his fifth one. Oh, my.
  • And then the bastard dies of consumption. Too kind on him.
  • And professor says the next lectures will cover the end of the Pinsk era. Intriguing.

Russia in all her glory as Stanislav rotted in hell.

Hallo! New reader! Love everything you got going for a rather Muslim-inspired Russia! I'm asking the basic question in: Who is the Professor? I'm heavily intrigued and also inspired to get something cooking for myself on this forum.

You see, Stanislav, the lesson from Ivan IV Vasilyevich is you only kill the first son, not all your sons. That's why you didn't usher in a golden age.

First post ever, and in my AAR? I am honored! :) If you end up writing something yourself, I'd love to read it! :D Bear in mind new users with less than 10 posts and a certain amount of weeks (IIRC) can't post images and links, but you will soon be there. :)

The Professor is, of course, a legend in the Russian historian community, a man with intimate knowledge of the topic. The student is a so-so (I guess) accomplished bachelor degree student in her early 20s.

Yeah, well, he forgot...you know? :p

Either way, sounds like we're Russian to the end of the Pinsk dynasty! Amazing that the mad king managed to fight off so many threats to his reign. And kill off most of his own family. Definitely not right in the head.

You are not Russian to conclusions, no. Guy was a piece of work. Totally not roleplayed by me.

The Lady in the Clouds is a blood-thirsty witch, but she adores her faithful servant, Malik. Dead at 45, crazier than a march hare, he had the makings of a Rurikid, but ruling twenty-six years, is just too long. Thank you for the update.

Welcome @ANGELS4EVER70. By all means, cook to your heart's content.
