The Lady in the Clouds is a blood-thirsty witch, but she adores her faithful servant, Malik. Dead at 45, crazier than a march hare, he had the makings of a Rurikid, but ruling twenty-six years, is just too long. Thank you for the update.

Welcome @ANGELS4EVER70. By all means, cook to your heart's content.
Malik is the title, but yeah, faithful to a fault!

How is the title determined? Culture? Religion? If the Malik had a friend, how would the friend address him?
I think both culture and religion can change it. But in this case I think it is religion. How he eould address him depends on where and who is around.

Malik al-Muazzam is an Arabic title. It means something like "high king" (more literally, "the glorious king"). In this case, I suspect the Pinsk kings are addressed as such because of their Islamic religion.

Wow! That was quite the reign. No wonder the Pinks lose the throne after him.

Looking forward to the end of the Pinsk Pretenders. Also, wishing for the Rurikid Renaissance but likely this third phase will introduce some new pretenders.

Also welcome to @ANGELS4EVER70 .

Well that was a wonderful reign from Stanislav, excellent work. Admittedly I come at it from the perspective of hating his entire dynasty and cheering at the news that the Pinsk Pretenders will soon fall, an actual supporter of his would probably see things differently.

Thanks! I can always count on your expertise. :)

Yeah, we're going towards a low point now.

We're seeing *checks notes* three rulers in 17 years now, before the end of their reign.

He's quite something, no? :p Pinsk will fall!

In a fit of insanity and rage over his son and heir embracing the Sami culture, he imprisons him and executes him for all to see!? Now, this is both intriguing and grotesque…
That’s pretty nasty - and destructive for the dynasty.
And then he imprisons and murders his second son, the new heir, too.
Ok, this is a very bad habit now.
And then he murders his fourth son. Third remains new heir, but probably was shitting his pants!
Right. The bloodthirsty murdering tyrant thing is getting rp-ed to the hilt!
And another son is murdered, this being his fifth one. Oh, my.
‘Oh my’ is a terrific understatement. He did leave one alive to inherit. A favourite? The best? The worst, out of sheer bloody-mindedness? We may never know. But the kinslaying malus must have been horrendous after that.
And professor says the next lectures will cover the end of the Pinsk era.
Good riddance! Killed off by itself.
Totally not roleplayed by me.
;) Really? :p

And indeed welcome @ANGELS4EVER70 :)

Welcome @ANGELS4EVER70!

Who will replace the Pinsks?

Did Stanislav kill his brother in the game, or was that a convenient coincidence for you as a player?

Why did the heir convert to Sami culture?

You will learn who soon. ;)

IIRC, a murder scheme was initiated by me.

Why indeed. These things happen sometimes due to events and such. Just like how I suddenly had a Muslim as ruler a while back. I never discovered it before he inherited.

The short reigns of Oleg, Yefimiy and Sviatopolk and the fall of Pinsk
Today the professor will cover three reigns in one lecture. Whew!

Malik al-Muazzam Oleg of Russia (1176-1178)

1720380435297.png

  • Shortest reign yet, I think? Lots happening, though. Three simultaneous wars for the throne of Sweden, the forever thorn in Russia’s side.
  • But also a dissolution war and a claimant war for the Russian throne.
  • In the middle of all this, however, Oleg dies of consumption, thus reuiniting Russia and Khazaria when his half-brother Yefimiy inherits the Russian throne.

Malik al-Muazzam Yefimiy of Russia (1178-1182)

  • Upon Oleg’s death, the three-way Swedish war is settled, but both the dissolution war and the claimant war is ongoing. The dissolution war is over a few months into his reign, with the claimant war shortly after.
  • But another dissolution war surfaces in 1181, a year before Yefimiy dies under mysterious circumstances, leaving his three-year-old nephew to rule. This can’t be going well.

Malik al-Muazzam Sviatopolk of Russia (1182-1193)
Malik al-Muazzam Sviatopolk of Khazaria (1182-1226)

  • The last Pinsk on the throne. Didn’t last long either, poor kid.
  • Barely gets out of the dissolution war alive. Russia was so close to not existing anymore!
  • Then some Catholics in Slesvig declares war for Sweden!
  • And then, lo and behold, the Swedes and Danes both declare war on Sviatopolk for their independence. They end up winning in 1187, and thus Russia has lost them. For good this time.
  • Another dissolution war happens in 1188, at the same time as another independence war starts.
  • Dissolution war ends in white peace in 1190, but Sviatopolk, the poor kid – he was only a teenager – is captured by the rebels and forced to accept their independence. Kid just can’t get a break, can he?
  • Nope. In 1190 a Rurikid declares war for the Russian throne, and this time the pretender wins. In 1193 Sviatopolk has to relinquish his Russian throne, marry the daughter of his opponent – matrilineally – and retreat to his holdings in Khazaria.
  • Thus ends the Pinsk line, in a whimper. Sviatopolk would reign in Khazaria for a while, before being deposed, his empire destroyed by rebels, and dying as a mere count, 56-years-old and known as “the Good”.

And the Pesky Pinskys are out! At least Sviatopolk survived all the turmoil even if he did fall quite a bit down the ladder before the end.

The dead not in focus look like that IIRC. I forgot to take screenshot of some rulers when they died and did so later. :)

Finally! And not only did he survive, he got the ephiphet the Good. Somehow, he managed that in CK3.

Oleg ruled two years dead at twenty-three, a proper pinky Rurikid.

Yefimiy ruled four years dead at seventeen, another pinky Rurikid.

Sviatopolk twice got kicked out of emperorships, forced to marry a Rurikid (matrilineally, of course). Are the new Rurikids of Russia still Islamic and Ruthenian? Norse Germanics would be ideal! How 'good' can you be to go from Emperor at age three to dying fifty-three years later as a count. This is the equivalent to being born on the one-foot line and spending your life running to the wrong goal-line.

Thank you for the update.

The Pesky Pinsk Pretenders peter out! Good to see the Revenge of the Rurikids (as @StrategyGameEnthusiast noted).

In 1190 a Rurikid declares war for the Russian throne, and this time the pretender wins.
In the eyes of the Pinsk, yes. However, we all know this started with the Rurikids and they are the true dynasty that needs to hold this throne.
the Swedes and Danes both declare war on Sviatopolk for their independence.
Good to see this Norse uprising contributing to the end of the Pesky Pinsk.

Perhaps his title is just relative to the rest of the Pinsk line? So as there was no reported incest or child murder that made him "The Good" compared to the rest of his awful dynasty? And of course he removed his dynasty from the throne that they had stolen, which is a Good act in itself.
