** NO ERROR... Fixed ** SaveGame Error: 1.03 -> 1.03b

--------------------------------------------------------
|UPDATE|

Ooops....

Figured this one out... the readme file DOES point out that 1.03b invalidates old savegame files.

No problemo.

-----------------------------------

Don't know if this is my error in patching, but I just upgraded HOI from 1.03 to 1.03b.

Went to load a savegame file and this is the error I got:

-- ERROR: (Date: Unexpected field) 'movement = ('Line = 19378 file = scenarios\save games\USA_1938_June_5.eug -- Do you still want to continue?

Pressing 'Abort' or 'Retry' gives me an abnormal program termination and kicks me to desktop (this is, believe it or not, the FIRST and only error I've ever received with this marvelous game!).

Anyone have a similar experience? This happens with the other three (3) savegame files I have as well.

Not a tremendous biggie as I've already started another game and it seems to be running fine. I would have liked to continue the saved game, but it's not the end of the world.

Incidentally, I had two (2) mods installed:

1.) DesertRat's counter-color mod
2.) Some enhanced leader files.

I thought that these would get overwritten, but if anyone has a thought on this, drop a post in here.

Thanks as always for any info.

Always best to start with a fresh install, If you have modded files they may not be overwritten.

Nice of them to point that out AFTER the install finishes!!!!!!

Two weeks of gameplay down the drain:mad:

Does anyone know what the difference between the old and new save files are? Mabye we (ok, I) could write a program to patch them.

The rule is and always has been that saves may not be compatible. You could always reinstall 1.03 and finish your game. :)

I have been playing computer games since Pong. I've never had one that would not read a save after installing a patch. Sorry, its no excuse. Just a disclaimer for poor workmanship. They should have included a converter at the very least.

What is the difference between the version's save files? I'll write my own converter.

You still playing a game started under 1.03? :)

You and I must have played different games, As I played pong as well. ;) and have been aware that there is always a chance that I will not be able to continue an old game if I install a new patch. Plus the readme file was available online and in both this forum and the Gen. Discussion forum before the patch was even released.

The difference is in added features, if you are suggesting we do not add any new features in patches I think others would strongly disagree. I do not know which one is causing you problems could be speed caps could be any number of changes.

Spending time on a "coverter" is sort of a waste when the time could be spent on crushing more bugs. It is not like this is an ongoing problem. If you want to continue your game uninstal then reinstall 1.03, there is your converter. :)
