HAs anyone else experienced this, it is really annoying. The screen blanks for just a second at randome intervals and makes looking at the screen hard. I have all the latest drivers so before I sent anything of to tech support I thought I would see if anyone else has experienced this.

Thanks

1.) do you have a memory manager program running in the background? if so turn it off
2.) do you have a fan (or another source of vibration) on the desk or table or aimed at the monitor?

I'm not being flippant, these are both situations that I came across on my own while playing Paradox games.

#2 in particular had me tearing my hair out until I realized that it wasn't my graphics card or monitor dying - there was a heat wave and I was using a fan to help cool down the monitor... :eek:o

No memory manager or source of vibration. I have tried various speeds of the game, but I noticed it in the tutorials first where I started with this game. It is really wierd, all my other games I do not have this problem such as DOOM3 and that is way more taxing on my system than this is.

Or an antivirus or any of a host of other different applications running in the background which, in previous Paradox games, have caused the flickering to happen, in my experience.

Now that you are where you belong. ;)

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.
4) Update your Windows, update your Video card drivers and audio card drivers. Then repeat steps 1-3.

98% of flicker problems are caused by other programs running in the background.

1. Already Done
2. Tried
3. Already Done
4. I always keep all my updates up to date, though I checked Windows, Video and Sound to cover the bases.

Luckily I have two systems and the other one has no problems.

What is your refresh rate set at?

this is a classic eu-engine problem. the problem is the system tray icons trying to refresh themselves. icq is notorious, but other applications also cause this problem. either try to have as few icons in the tray as possible, or turn down hardware acceleration on your graphics card (seems to slow the game down, however).

I actually have exactly the same thing happen to me at the office computer I installed HOI2. I have HOI1 :eek:o also on the same comp but it does not blink. I think it does have to do something with the refresh rate of the monitor as it does not happen on any of the other comps at the office. I will try playing around with it as suggested in the thread and get back to you.

1) Virus check.
2) If you have Music Match installed, it must be completely disabled.

I would prob go with a standard rate though.

Well I switched my res from 1400 x 1050 32 BPP to 1024 x 768 16 BPP and the problem dissapeared... ugh I never knew how ugly the desktop looks with this resolution :)

edit sorry it still happens but much less often

edit2 okay switched back to 1400 x 1050 32 BPP and renamed the avi file and no flickering yet....
