If you are willing to give up the speed.

That's the point, the requirements for HOI2 are low enough that it doesn't slow down at all. I'm not giving up anything.

It's up to you.

From Gamespot review:

an irritating intermittent-screen-flickering issue that defied all our attempts to solve it.

I still have this on one of my machines. I had sent an email to tech support along with a DXdiag file---but alas no response. :(

I have this problem as well, and frankly, I've had it since Vicky. I don't understand why EU engine games can't keep focus like every other game I own can. If you're going to make a game that runs at a set mode in full screen, you might as well have it take full control over video memory while it's in focus. Or alternatively, you could have just given it a windowed mode, which I personally think is the best option. Removing animated taskbar icons is simply not an option, because the applications I run in the background are required to be on all of the time.

Of course, it's my opinion that all low-intensity, low requirement games should have a windowed mode, simply because I like to do more than one thing at a time.

I've had the flickering for ages.
Just gotten used to it. Had it on my old computer with HoI1 and EU1 and 2 have no idea why but it doesn't bother me that much anymore.

Even if the problem is caused by programs in the background they shouldn't do that so it has something to do with the engine itself. I've seen no other games that behave this way which is a quite good indicator of where the problem lies.
However as i said it doesn't bother me that much anymore.

You should not have a flicker if you do it is because you have something running in the background, I have no flicker on my screen so there is no reason you should have one on yours. There is NO process which is required to be running in the task bar.

Perhaps Gamespot crew should have consulted with me and I could have solved their problem for them. ;)

I doubt it.

I have a wide variety of games from Doom3 to Highway to the Reich and none and I mean none of those games exhibit this problem. Furthermore people are complaining that it has been happening to them since some early Paradox releases and have been living with it. And people know for everyone that complains here there are many others who do not come to the forums.

In other words it is a design flaw with the game engine that has not (and looks like it will not) be addressed by the developers. This is being confirmed by moderators saying to just turn everything off in the taskbar and Tech Supports ignoring emails on the issue (at least for me).

So now we are to the point where developers are just out to make money and do not care about the product they ship. People say they have a problem and some suggestions are offered that do not work. Furthermore the suggestions should not have to be followed, I should not have to go through some voodoo tricks to get a non taxing graphic game to work. This problem makes the game un-playable on my one machine. My only saving grace is my other machine does not exhibit the same problem. I am running the same process on both machines so you know where your suggestions can go.

I wonder why every single non-Paradox game I played managed not to flicker like mad. I remember having that issue in EU2, CK, HoI1. Where's the huge problem that prevented this from being fixed in the last couple of years?

Look, I don't want to get confrontational, but in addition to gaming, I also use my computers for business. It just happens that the system I use for gaming also doubles as as the second tier in a 3-tier web application that is my main source of revenue. The webserver frontend running in the background, as well as my packet sniffer are *required* for me to run my business. They must be on all the time, or I lose customers.

Please do not assume that it's the user's problem when it actually isn't. I just hope that when the second generation Paradox game engine comes out that this is resolved, because it isn't just webserver applications that update their tray icons.

At least you know what is causing the trouble.

What e-mail address did you use?
There is no e-mail tech support AFAIK at Paradox, these fourms server that function and are the proper place to ask support questions.
So if you have posted this in one of my support forums, please point me to the thread you started where I did not solve the problem for you.

I have solved 100% of this problem for every member that complained to me and was willing to work towards a solution, yes that is 100%. I say again 100%.

I started this thread, I worked with you and I still have the problem. And I will point to this thread.

So I say again.

I have this VERY ANNOYING problem (first time in Paradox Tech support ever) and it (screen flickering) is occuring on two different machines. WinXP home. From 1024x768 75hz and up. 16 or 32 bit color. I have no systray apps, no background apps (all disabled in msconfig) and verified in processes in task manager. No matter what I do I see this problem. I run all the latest pc gams and old (from Doom 3 to Steel Panthers and older) and I have never seen this kind of problem.

Both machines exhibit this problem. One is running SP2 and the other only SP1 for Xp.

I see other people are seeing this too. Is there going to be a fix? Finally I buy a Paradox game that is playable yet the flicker makes it unplayable.
For one I cant believe this could get QA but the fact it has gotten buy possibly since Europa Univ....what the...???

I see others turn down their 3d hw accelleration. Sadly if I cant resolve it soon (without doing that!), game goes in trash cause it hurts the eyes flickering all the time. That would make my second Paradox purchase to join the circular file. Mind you this is the second I have purchased!!!!!!!

Well maybe Gary Grigsby's World at War and Matrix will provide something that just works, I can always hope....

Wrong you stoped working with me!

There are still suggestions I gave you on page 1 that you have not responded to.
And how does that make two when he even says this is his first vist to tech support. ;)

Unfortuanately there are many people posting in this thread and it got hijacked from your specific problem, but you do bare some of the blame for that.

Therefore NO one else is allowed to post in this thread further except HercMighty, and myself.

If any one else has this or any other support problem, you can each start your own thread on the problem and I will be happy to assist you.
