Please see my warning above. You are not adding any new info to the discussion.

Poor fellow. Not adding anything new. Well maybe I have something new for you. I purchased the game for € 44,- and it turns out to be graphically (even) worse than its predecessor. I - just like this guy above - am VERY UPSET about this matter. And with all due respect, I don't find your comments about it neither helpfull nor friendly. The minimum I would expect is a clear statement from your side to take this seriously and do something about it. The next thing should be an announcement on which date a fix will be released to release us (i.e. your customers) from this annoying condition. I already regret my decision to have bought the game. Oh and by the way, why don't you leave it to your customers to have them choose the resolution they want to use? In 'HoI 1' this was possible. So, are you going to do something about it or not?

Not long for the forum, when you cannot tell this is a NO post thread unless you have something not in the summary, you are adding nothing to the information we have nor are you helping the problem with your little rant. You already broke many rules with this post considering the thread of yours I already deleted.

All ideas are being noted thank-you.

Great. So is there any progress or are the notes just sitting on someone's desk? Perhaps we should not be the ones adding something new, you should be. Since all the ideas are out in the open. No one has anything new. Time for Paradox to add something new, don't you think?

Before you go on about how it's adding nothing new, the last time I asked about this was one month ago in January, after you posted your summary. I think a month has been plenty enough time to have digested the material. What concrete actions have you taken, other than telling your customers to add something new? Incidently, I haven't played HOI2 for about a month.

Sorry you feel that way but posting in this thread, right after my last post, was not really a smart thing to do. I do not change the program code! As stated earlier the programers have seen the thread and if they decied to alter it based on the suggestions here that is thier perview not mine.

Just bought the game in UK (after having played HOI CORE etc a lot). Not even played it yet but have spent several hours trying to get it to run in 1280 x 1024 to match my brand new LCD monitor native resolution. I just couldn't believe that any windows based software (and I am a developer) would be fixed at a single resolution, especially given the strange resolutions we all have to program for now.
Additionally, there is nothing on the packaging to indicate that a screen capable of 1024 x 768 is required.
Any news on a fix for this bug?

Did not seem to be much interest in the one discussed.

IMO it is a big issue with this sort of game. I played the tutorial to get an idea of the new mission stuff (which is good btw), and the text was not at all clear (interpolated to 1280 x 1024). I ended up with a headache after less than an hours play.
You do not fire up HOI for a quick frag session, a normal session would last several hours. I think I will have to return the game for a refund as for me this problem renders the game unplayable.

You will of course do what you think is best for you, sorry it did not work out.

More Screen Rez

I too have a laptop and my native resolution is 1400x1050. HOI at 1280x1024 looked great. I also like seeing as much of the map as possible. So I would have to say that even if it does take the developer from other projects PLEASE add an update that allows higher res screens!!

Bob

I don't think that is feasible at this point.

Just my 2 pence worth, but the text for me is a nightmare.

My normal LCD resoluton is 1280x1024 and this helps with resolution of all my other games...but with HOI2, I'm afraid, the text is really hard to read.

one problem that i don't believe has been mentioned so far is that of aspect ratios.

we all know that TFT/LCD screens don't do a very good job of displaying non-native resolutions, but things are worse than that.

your average CRT monitor is a 4:3 aspect ratio, 1024x764, 1600x1200, you do the maths. mid-range TFT's of which the majority are and billions have been sold, are not 4:3 aspect screens however. 1280x1024 is the resolution of all 17", 18" and 19" TFT's and this is a 5:4 aspect ratio, i.e. it is more square than common CRT resolutions, or anti-widescreen if you will.

so, by forcing a 1024x768 res on HoI2 players with 17" and 19" screens not only do they get a blurry picture, it is also distorted due to lateral compression necessary to squeeze a 4:3 picture into a 5:4 screen.

i apologise if this is already in the 'list of suggestions', but i haven't been able to find that so far.

while we would all like to see every common resolution supported this obviously isn't possible, but here is a suggestion:

> 1024x768 will also be able to scale reasonably to 1400x1050 and 1600x1200 as they are both 4:3 resolutions.
> 1280x1024 will accomodate the billions of mid-range TFT users on this earth
> 1280x800 will accomodate a widescreen resolution that is rapidly becoming popular, and scale reasonably well to 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 for larger widescreens.

what is best of all is that all three resolutions enjoy a large degree of commonality and can easily be accomodated via the suggestion of increasing map size whilst leaving task-bars unchanged with the small sacrafice of some unused space in the top-right and bottom left of the screen.

just a suggestion............

:)

[edit] oh, this is my first post. first of all; thank you Paradox, HoI2 is excellent fun, i have avoided your games thus far because of the complexity, but i would truly love to see a Vic2 with all the improvements in ease-of-use evidenced in HoI2. cheers. [/edit]

attempting tutorial

Another issue I've not seen covered here is the tutorial. Several of the main/sub-menu's requests made by the tutorial are hidden/unreachable by the tutorial text itself being crammed into such a small space . I expect that I would know where to find these buttons/locations if I had attempted to play the game first, but I specifically wanted to see the "new" points of HoI2 (as a veteran of 1) before jumping in. Examples include: choosing technical teams, attempting to view "?-secret projects" as instructed, choosing Stettin during the IC tutorial was impossible as well because the arrow actually pointed to the gulf NE of Stettin. I suspect my Samsung 213T Flatpanel is doing the best job it can with this resolution, but there are distinct problems with having one resolution and highly capable flatpanel monitors.

I eagerly anticipate any screen resolution utilities or options.

Thank you.

Hi Guys,

Just posting to see if the Moderator has received any more informmation on whether they are realeasing a patch to allow changes in screen rez size like in HOI.

Only reason i asking is because it has been awhile now since any update on this question.

Hi Castellon,

Thanks mate for the quick reply. :)

*ps* just wondering have you got any information on what will be included in a new patch if one is coming out so far, and if so could you please post a few items that will be included in the patch.

Once again thanks for your time much appreciated. ;)
