Many thanks! Such things save me tedious hours of work, I really appreciate it, keep it coming! ;)

On a different note, I'm putting finishing touches on the .inc files, and doing the standing armies. Should be done soon, it's going smoothly (thank you God for Wikipedia and public domain U.S. government documents!).

There's one little problem which is Russia was Socialist in Shattered Union. They have red star in their flags and they're all commie :D I'm sure

But everyone had different flags in the game, except for the EU. The Confederates had a flag that kinda looked like their naval jack, but was different; Texas had a weird-looking multi-star flag that was different than theirs, etc. . .

It's looking good...

As true the statement is that the Russians took a turn for the more radically leftist in Shattered Union Proper, I don't care. This is loosely based on the game, as I found the game to lack much depth, as well as being rather over-simplified. Thus I am creating a deeper variant, roughly on the same lines, but better (hopefully). However, you just may be able to change the political direction of Russia if you so choose... ;) Thanks for the positive commentary.

Now, here's an interesting idea, I'd like some feedback, and perhaps suggestions as to how it could be accomplished. When adding the naval units based at San Diego Naval Base that California inherits (there are quite a few, its a large portion of the U.S. Pacific Fleet based there) I noticed the presence of a large number of "amphibious assault ships." I knew what they were (I'm a military tech buff, also history and politics buff) but was unsure how to approach them at first. Then I reasoned that they are essentially the modern equivalent to HoI transports. Most, however, are armed, and almost all of them carry not only land forces for amphibious deployments, but also many helicopters, and in some cases, harriers or other VTOL aircraft. So, they have combat use, particularly in the ASW and, in the modern sense, "shore bombardment." So, I figure I'll use a brigade type that I don't care about like heavy armor (not sure if its possible to convert it for ship use) and make transports eligible to be equipped with them. This way, normal transports can still exist, as well as these more battle-worthy attack transports.

Any ideas on how it could be implemented, or comments on technicalities or whatever are greatly appreciated.

As far as Im aware at present, you could simply give transports attack statistics and make them armed (I would assume the same holds true for air transports too).

Or you could change the SHA brigade to an 'escort brigade' to attach to transports but that seems like unecessary complication to me. (I dont really know- do any modern transports enter a combat zone unarmed these days?)

Bottom line is- you can make brigades attach to whatever you want, so there are no complications there.

You could ask the MDS team about this, I suppose, as they've got armed amphibious assault craft in their mod.

Thanks for the feedback/suggestions. I think I will go with superheavy armor, as it should be easy enough to remove from armor tech tree and just be activated upon researching a carrier tech, or its own little branch thing. Anyhow, with winter break coming up, I've been rationing myself on the modding to make sure I have it in me to mod non-stop through the break. That, along with the 2 college-level research papers I have to do in the next one and two weeks, respectively, is going to be bringing the progress to a grinding halt for a while. So, enjoy the site changes, its going to look a lot nicer, already does.

Would anyone here have an idea where I might find info on the Mexican and Cuban armed forces? I seem to be having trouble finding anything of substance about the force composition, AKA, standing army. This I need.

Mmmm, thanks. I had suspected as much, as the articles I have seen mostly focus on the fact that the Mexican army is small by Central American standards... among nations a fraction of its size, geographically and demographically. Its navy, I understand, is in a bit better shape, as it is well-respected by its American counterpart... interestingly, I recently read an article about the U.S. Navy giving two amphibious assault ships to the Mexicans. Perhaps I'll be able to extrapolate a bit and beef them up... Perhaps I should give Mexico numerous divisions, but all at 5% strength or so, and out of date.

Bwahaha.
Term papers: Completed and turned in.
Finals: In sight, and handled.
Other crap: Don't care.

That's right, it's modding time! Hurray! Progress! The standing forces for all the countries should be done by the week's end, and I'm intending to get a start on more intricate events for the entire first year of play. May delve into AI files a bit, and I changed some propaganda posters, they look way better now (Cuba and the Confederacy). Just thought I'd throw out that update, dust off the thread a bit. Also, anyone who wanted to help me out a bit, I could really use someone to do more of those unit name files, like L'Afrique did. Would be a huge help. Just post em in here. Doesn't even have to be the entire country's worth of unit names, just whatever you have time for. Thanks.

Winter break at last! Merry Late Christmas! I have about two weeks of no class, ahead of me, so I shall be a busy bee. Half of the standing armies are done, I'm all the way down to the GPF, and I found some great sites for helping me divide up the U.S. Army and Navy into their respective new owners, so the progress will be faster now.

If anyone has any ideas for tech teams or events for a country, I'd be happy to incorporate any worthwhile concepts, and would stick a subtle homage to you in the game, if you would like. Anyhow, that's all for now. Enjoy the remainder of the holidays everyone!

Just have a few minor suggestions, mostly about terrain. I dunno whether or not they have been touched.

Current game terrain does not reflect suburbs and the megapolis as much as they are in the modern day. A good start would be finding urban pictures for every province between Richmond and Boston. Admittedly some are already urban. Also, the provinces of Orlando and Jacksonville should be urban as those regions represented are incredibly developed by urban sprawl. Other provinces along the west coast should also be urban, Los Angeles and Seattle to name just two.

Finally, on manpower. Give plenty of manpower to the Florida provinces, Texas, and California. Those are the main growing states and probably should be represented as such.

Absolutely, I have made such changes already. The South especially gets a handsome manpower income, not to mention some other manpower advantages I'll touch on later. As far as urban goes, I've done my best. Thanks for the Florida tips, as I didn't want to urbanize it all, but which ones to urbanize was a difficult choice to someone with no close knowledge of Florida.

Urban as of now:
Toronto, Montreal, Boston, New York, Newark, Philly, DC, Pittsburgh (thinking about de-urbanizing, and instead urbanizing more East Coast), Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Houston, Dallas, Denver, LA, San Fran, Seattle, and Mexico City.

Any suggestions?

If you're wondering about Minneapolis, several reasons there. One, the portion of the state of Minnesota the province of "Minneapolis" encompasses holds most all of the state's 5 mil+. The Metro area alone holds 4/5 of that. Also, GPF needed another urban province, as well as a "Second City", since Chicago is the capitol, Detroit is a pit, as are the urban areas in Ohio, Indiana, and Missouri, then Minneapolis gets the urban.

Deurbanizing Pittsburgh may be a good idea, though it is actually pretty heavily urban in that region in the Shattered Union game itself.

More on Florida:

Once again, don't forget industry, we've got quite a bit here now, though most people only think beaches and Disney World. Also Tampa and Miami probably would both be good as swamp.

Have you thought of events yet? Seems to me some interesting things could be done. Diplomacy and events were the obvious weak points of the game itself. Much more could have been done with the game mechanics.

Mmmm I have loads of ideas for events, some I have wrote down, most I have not. There are endless possibilities just when it comes to land claims all the different nations can bring upon one another. Any specific ideas? I already have a few basic events, mostly setting up either initial setup, and then an event chain designed to facilitate the purchase or conquest of Alaska by the Russians. Open to any kind of ideas, just post them. It's the future, so lots can happen!

Does anyone know someone that works with or knows something about the MDSII Mod? I could use to talk to some of the guys that handle that mod, but the website is horrendous, and the forum most certainly doesn't work for contacting the proper people, as I tried that and failed dismally. Please post if you do know anything about it. Thanks.
