How many saints does Orthodoxy have in your save?
Three:
- Varaka "the Apostle" Permyakid (died at year 1021),
- Setyamka "the Understanding" Permyakid (died at year 1098),
- Kazimierz "the Myrrh-Streaming " Branicki (died at year 1091),

First two are already in rulling family and third one is on it's way to join in next generation :).

Finally becoming feudal means the money machine goes into overdrive, and your personal demesne makes more money than a continental empire surrounding it.

Regarding saints, there seems to be some disinclination to grant two saint bloodlines for one family, but clearly it can be done, especially if you marry them together.
It does. Sadly the same goes for many costs. So far most of the money comes from maximally taxed (50%) Mayors directly under Emperor. Handpicking 15+ stewardship characters to hold 3+ cities with some prosperity bonuses, technology and province modifiers. Later we will add Trade too even though we are landlocked :). Bishops with access to Monastic Society also can be nice thanks to higher temple taxes from highest ranks and higher taxation % in laws. Tutoring extra sons not being heir material into good stewards then "Ordering them to take the Vows" also works.k

It is difficult to realistically compare wealth - other big economies might tax less than us + had few centuries to get ahead with county development. On other hand we are now getting more cash, have better building modifiers and technology once spread should allow us to get ahead. I'm curious what the end date result will be. I know you can max all technologies like 1-2 centuries before end date.

When it comes to Saints I mostly rely on this CK2 paradoxwiki/Sainthood#Canonization. So having Saintly Bloodline gives staggering 0.2x modifier to chance of becoming one. It is still easier done than stacking multiple forged bloodlines, which takes into consideration your whole dynasty :).

Orthodoxy has three saints in my save as well:
Strategos Laurentios (I think that was his name (I didn't play as this guy)) of Trebizond (died in the 830s, iirc))
Basileus Romanos I (died in 944, canonised in 947 (his son was the Ecumenical Patriarch though))
Basileus Konstantinos VII (died in 959, canonised in 961 (same Ecumenical Patriarch))

Since my last post two more distant relatives of my dynasty have been beatified, although I could have a mod that increases the chance of getting saints (or having a relative as head of faith may have more benefits than just easy claims and excommunications)

Part XLIII (1118-1125)

Part XLIII (1118-1125)

Year 1118
======================

Time to once again sit down and increase the prosperity of our lands. As always between playing session I did some thinking and checking. What conclusions did I arrive at this time? First of all Chancellor. Was moving him a lot lately parts. Realised that I should keep him on trying to generate claim against Muhallabids. Why? Because we are eligible to wage "Great Conquest" against them (we are similarly sized realms and our extra levies can be temporarily deleted). But we won't once we inherit Kingdom of Nenetsia. So there are 2 wars against them to be done. So we want that claim, preferably fast. If it doesn't pan out I always can commence conquest of Holy Lands after seceding Nenetsia later. Still we need to border them so our Jewish Chancellor Azariah of Ash Shir goes toward single county of Muhallabids in Cilicia.

lpxtJGe.jpg

One thing I do apprecieate about keeping AAR going across longer period of time - I have more time and energy for some strategising. Result seem better that when I play on my own.

Secondly - I was not aware that Kingdom of Cumania was not de jure drifting towards our Permo-Siberian empire. I could not create custom empire to fix it immedietely (good luck with meeting holding requirements for that decision as tribal in Siberia). And forgot to create that title (which seems to be needed beside it already bordering your bigger title). As it takes 100 years we won't make it before Mongols arrive. Well happens I guess but let's fix it now. It might come in handy against second wave of Mongols, and well Cumania is mostly compromised of Castles that in our current obligation regime do contribute some troops.

vtBdajd.jpg

ZxnC1eT.jpg

There is always something in CK2 you are not doing. Also for keen observers - some duchies de jure drifted into Kingdom of Perm ages ago thus irregular shape.

Invited bunch of young courtiers for marrying purposes. Ordered several City Walls II in counties that reached technology treshold since last part and spend 1.200 prestige on more building in remaining tribes. Some 1.700 Nomads arrive behind our borderguards stationed at Silkroad so we wait until they lock their movement and then follow to force a battle. I do invite even more courtiers from abroad as I learn that I need lowborns otherwise Mayors do refuse our matches. On plus side we can fix some 3/2 holdings mayors with skilled spouses but this will take over our previous "investor searching" duty. Made sure every of our multicity mayors is married and breeds. Just as I finish it, one of our mayors dies thus I have even more work. Huh

We keep getting pregnancy events from our Han princess and soon it becomes spring without me even noticing. Soon another Permyakid kid is born and this time we rolled that Genius trait! So the heir is born. We at once break our oldest son bethrothal to Sernyava Permyakid (holder of Branicki bloodline) and re-arrange it to Meltsayka.

OR1P7Af.jpg

That really nice :) By the time he turns adult emperor Vokan will be over 50 years old. So it just works :) After all detours I really SHOULD focus on prosperity events.

Months pass. Procured 3rd Branicki bloodline source just in case (and using previously bought favor to cash it out). Having finally reached 1.000 devotion in community of Saint Basil we do use "Convert county" power. Where you ask? As Permo-Siberia is fully christanised, we target county in Anatolia. Tao under our Norse Warrior Lodge Hero. Then we let him go by granting him independence. Why? Well it was the whole idea - make lone religion single counts so the ERE might devour them. And as ERE did spread (and blocked us out of interacting with Muhallabids) we can start feeding them those. Tao isn't needed for me anymore so goodbye we say. County already being converted is our gift to our Greek coreligionist. That said it might mess things up due to revolt risk. Let's hope Byzantines increase their territorial intengrity soon'ish.
JEOkOJa.jpg

We start feeding Eastern Roman Empire those not longer needed Anatolian counties to make them even stronger. And better looking border wise so it's a win-win.

More blessed from Permo-Siberia pass across this year. We are up to 4 blessed in recent decade. We also have plenty of petitions from feudal vassals demanding giving them our multicity vassal who hold cities inside their demain. Thanks to high diplomacy we just leave them out with vauge promises. On topic which - we lost Wroth we recently acquired from War focus. Keeping it might be a tough, while belonging to Monastic society.

Year 1119
======================

We start next year with 11.270 gold coins. Slightly more than usual. I want to keep stockpiling gold not only for prosperity even but also buying that county claim in Cilicia, if it gets generated. So really we need more like 13-14 thousand gold on hand to feel safer. After some marriages arranged for our helpless mayors we receive call to war from emperor's mother - Queen of Nenetsia. She pounced on some Khagan that seperated from Chernigov Khagante, pushing her conquest toward Nenetsia.

AXxMbdm.jpg

AI getting cheeky but we will help. Did not expect Nenetsians to push so far south. Might need to revaluate my future plans.

We start marshalling our troops towards Burtasy to make war, as nomadic enemy is quite formidable. By February news from Middle-east arrives - the Sunni were succesful in their Jihad and retook Arabia. That will change dynamic as once again Sunni might retake hegemony over Islam (As both them and Zikris are currently at 55% Moral Authority). New Sultanate there also should allow either Egypt or Eastern Roman Empire to retake Levant. In few months later Farukid Sultanate attacks Orthodox Persians to the north and to my suprise - Greeks join the war on the side of Christians!

F7IC7Si.jpg

Infighting among Muslims might just work towards our longterm plan. It leaves Zikri Farukid Persia+Iraq isolated against both Orthodox (Persians and Greeks) and Sunnis (Egypt and Arabia).

Meanwhile back home, our troops amass and I watch as close to 7.000 nomads slowly siege Nenetsia out. Won't happen anytime soon so it isn't any emergency but I want to get the crucial mass of bodies required to crush them without any unforseen developments. Soon we get those 16.000 men and with beginning of summer they move out.

Another mayor bites the dust. It is kind of concerning that they all die before 40 years old :/. Nobles generated were close to 30 years old and if they keep croaking at such rapid pace it might become a serious issue. For now I focus on keeping steady stock of lowborn women going - as long as mayor's court has women we can remedy situation relatively quickly. Our army forces the battle onto bigger nomad host, while our allies from Nenetsia engage smaller army that was moving to reinforce. Nice assist from AI. This will help

YRDastZ.jpg

This time it is the enemy that counters one of our tactics. How long road did we crossed since time we were gambling with mostly light infantry armies or hunting the steppes with Warrior's Lodge Pikes =D.

Battles became less swingy after feudalising. No longer do we fear Charge tactic so much, as now with some Pikes (546) we can force them back and counter nomads. Even when we were countered, Nomads weren't doing enough damage so we win, killing over 2.000 enemies. So did Nenetsian forces prevail. So by December enemies are on the run. War focus event fired and thus Vokan is now "Heavy Infantr expert". We can have up to 2 traits so I can get one now. Still looking for that Organiser. Before end of year we retake holdings in Novosil. Maybe picking one earlier will help. Finger crossed.

Year 1120
======================

Another year and our treasury accumulated 13.207 coins. We are getting there :). Raiders appear in Anatolia (470 men strong) and Emperor himself visits one of Orthodox monasteries, making new friend in the process. As usual winter cuts down our army from almost 17.000 down to 12.000 men. Nenetsian forces are slowly fortyfing war target so that's nice. And don't forget we drink from fountain of youth de-aging our character from 37 to 35 years of age as the result.

We slowly march towards Khaganate capital but it takes quite a while. Finally as we reach it at the end of June, our mother dies under suspicious circumstances and we inherit her 3 counties + kingdom of Nenetsia.

r7zYe8K.jpg

Of course some counties seperated but as they are of correct culture and religion (and within de jure territory) we will re-vassalize it after current war is over. Let's hope next time I give away kingdom of Nenetsia then it will stick. Cause so far it keeps returning like boomerang.

We give those 3 Nenetsian counties to our branch family from Vladimir duchy (Kezhay III who thought tooth and nail but wasn's succesful so far). They are pre-selected already for role of administering our sister-realm, so the more power Permyakids hold there - the better. After taking care of previously Nenetsian armies inherited by Vokan, we continue our offensive into Sarkel. Enemies vanish so we proceed towards 55% warscore unopposed.

1T7h52R.jpg

Somehow Nomads don't seem to be regrouping even while having around 6-7 thousand troops still left.

With few more sieges we reach 100% warscore and enfource demands. More administrative work ensues as we take 4 new counties (out of 6) in Sarkel. There is no time to lose. As our warriors return within the borders in December (yes it took us this long) peasant rebelion occurs on other side of Ural. Did manage to re-vassalize 1 of break away rulers but Merya duke refuses due to our city structure tricks. Will have to war him for it back ehh. Not happy about having to do such menial task, when we are busy with feudalising and barons but hey...

ZTyV3Bj.jpg

Revolt in Komi Orthodox county :/. It's mostly due to AI f*ck ups with events. Extra painful due to distance between Siberian counties.

As our retinues are moving to quell peasants, I spend a moment to revoke (with tyranny) another bishopric and appoint member of community of Saint Basil in place of previous holder. Thus Tynea is "fixed" and together with Kudymkar temple we are 2/6 temples in Perm duchy basically ready for our meritocratic methods. Current correct bishops aren't great stewards but hey - they will become in time. For now it is important that those temples got tagged as possible destination for "Order to take the Vows" decision.

Year 1121
======================

January starts with re-arranging our daughter future marriage. She was supposed to marry Branicki bloodline heir but he died :/. So we bethroth her to 2nd son of current Basileos. It will be quite some time before it might result in military alliance but should be worth it. When it comes to home affairs it is time to clean some vassals up. We imprison and execute one schemer in Khantia but other chief in duchy of Komi escapes and rises in rebelion. We also press claim to retake independent Merya duke who refuses to bend the knee. To make the most of being at war and preferably shorten "war" time.

g6TbnmT.jpg

Unlucky that due to some trait rng count of Merya really didn't want to submit. The other target is schemer vassal, that we failed to arrest (52% chance)

Some vassal joins one of traitors in his war :/... Also another bishop dies before reaching 40 years of age leaving his successor with 4/1 demense limit. Well that's not great :O. I do expect my bishops to live longer. Will take some time before I can even fix that. We split our retinues inside duchy of Perm (3.950 of light infantry and archers) and send them to besiege both rebeling counties.

After assigning our armed forces my attention turns to matchmaking. Vokan's daughter came out of age and I would like to cash out on some nice military alliance. Soon it turns out there just might be bachelor good enough for our needs. Basileus has 2 sons, and his non inheriting one lacks wife. That will do. Even though it doesn't give us anything right now, we get NAP and military alliance with his heir. So sooner or later we will have the help of our Greek Orthodox brothers against muslims in Middle East.
ujDE44j.jpg

Time to start collecting military allies. For now at least it won't interupt our peace time

In August it turns out, that even without modifier icon in character screen our (inherited from someone Master Engineer) still fires his events. That's nice. We also send some Eunuch to China for even more Grace. Less than decade of golden age remains. We are kind of out of funds to keep building sadly :(. Out of note - our Muhallabid courtier finally died. He was father to 3 daughters and 1 son, all that came out of age. Tried to breed daughters even more but so far not one has any children to their dynasty name. On other hand son that didn't have to be forcefully converted already has a son. We will continue educating them into decadence but so far nothing came out of it. Muhallabids did accumulate around 50% decadence so far and are still getting extra 1% every year.

In September we finally fully reunited our lands. Now only to deal with rebelion of that Komi schemer. Month later we take over his single barony but we need to do the same for his unexpcted ally located in next province. So this will prolong the war well into winter. As you would expect, because I moved our retinues to deal with rebels, 1.680 nomads showed up in Perm county itself to loot. Ehh - time to rise levies. Even with immediete response we lose 28% of provincial wealth because it takes around month to move from surrounding provinces >.>.

Before year ends we get called into our Byzantine's Prince war for some small county in Galich.

Year 1122
======================

Year starts with another 5-6% revolt risk chance rng moment peasant rebelion in Nenetsia. I guess this is one of weaknesses of my many counts setup - they have more opportunities to make their subjects upset. On other hand this also speeded up culture&religion assimilation thus lowering revolt risk quicker. Eh - no moment of peace to administer the realm :<? What else to do other than raise Permian levies once again and get on long march towards Nenetsia to crush those 5.000 peasant host.

I do spot that my income has plummeted. Not because of raiding but due to being over the vassal limit (49/43). It cut the income down to +1.200 yearly. That's quite a lot. I make use of that situation as an excuse to create 3 new stewardship characters for just 1.000 gold but only 1 is good. Still over 15.700 remains in my treasury. Will create more duchies in Cumania and give them away because kingdom of Cumania is still not de jure drifting to us :/.

After creaating few duchies and ending vassal rebelion in February we manage to get vassal limit down to just 45/43. Which increases our income to +1.920 coins yearly. That's much better. Then I remember we recently took over Sarkel and maybe there can be duchy title assigned as well reducing vassal count even further. My hunch proves correct and with that we are looking once again at 43/43 meaning no income penalty. Seems like another good reason to get rid of kingdom of Nenetsia + Vladimir ASAP. For now we can't as we wait, because one of our great Dukes holds holdings in both Perm and Nenetsia but his demense will fracture upon succession.

Cooldown for law change ends in April so we decide to reform our administration, by moving it toward Late Feudal step. Maybe by AAR end we will have imperial administration. One can always hope.

ZhXMZsn.jpg

Finally we are eligible to pick primogeniture. But will we? It would allow destruction of titles but right now I'm kind of enjoying that +2 demense limit, while still feeding technology into steppes.

Another Mayor bites the dust and I'm having second thoughs whether my setup is viable at all. It will require me to play much more slowly - no doubt about it, but if things seem wonky now how bad it will be once big epidemic happens? By September peasants are calmed down. There is still ongoing war of our Greek ally. Then we fund our tribal vassals big construction round - costing us around 1.800 prestige and some gold. Then I decide it is high time to splurge on our castles!

dYeOCCp.jpg

Castle towns in all 12 counties we hold! Feels kind of weird to build in holdings we hold directly.

Reasoning that Chinese Golden age is slowly coming to an end we should prioritise spending gold on improving our economy first and foremost. Given our ruler high stewardship we should get great returns on those Castle Town investments. We still have over 16.000 gold coins so in a year we might continue and are ready for any costly prosperity event or claim getting generated. Building universities for technology spread is all nice and good but if we don't have gold to max what we can build then things might become difficult.

In december once again we decision convert county in Anatolia to Orthodoxy. Only 1 county remains. Still no opportunity to steal some high quality christian relic presented itself to us (which was the sole reason to remain in this society).

Year 1123
======================

As castle towns keep getting constructed (70-90 days of time) it is good moment to list all our construction modifiers:

===============
Construction Speed
===============
Scholar Bureacrat (China Golden Age) = -30%
Book "How to Build Well" = -20%
Bones of Saint Peter = -10%
Tang Sculpture = -5%
+ Construction Technology = depending on county between -3.1% and -25%

==============
Construction Cost
==============
Scholar Bureacrat (China Golden Age) = -30%
Bones of Saint Peter = -10%
Dragon Amulet = -10%
+ Construction Technology = depending on county between -3.1% and -25%

=============
Final modifiers
=============
Construction Speed = 46,3%-35,9%
Construction Cost = 54.9%-42.5%

As you can see we are not doing too shabby even without 2 building modifiers I was planning on having but didn't manage to acquire ( "On Komi architecture" from "Write book" decision and Architecture related book from our collection in Far North Scriptorium (Great Library)). Once China passes it's golden age we will lose 15% on Scholar-Bureacrat so that's why I decided to keep pumping gold now.

In February our spymaster steals 50 military technology points. Good going but keep them coming. We did inherit some 1.300 odd retinues from Nenetsia so with 29.6k/20k retinue limit we are not looking into improving our retinues anytime soon (even with final levels of Military Organisation technology). I could dismantle many prestige based retinues but so far they are providing great service and numbers. Have distinct feeling that with fewer gold based retinues, protecting all of our borders might become impossible. Most importantly though - we save on gold. Across summer I go onto building frenzy in personally held castles. We improve in order Castle Towns->Fortifications->Castle Walls. First to improve income and rest for higher fort levels that should help protect bigger chunk of province wealth.

Our happy time is interrupted by 3.125 nomadic host arriving straight into our capital. We have over 5.000 retinues nearby so we intervene at once but well looted wealth will hurt :/.

ovZ9ItP.jpg

Once again we get countered on one flank. Thanks God we conquered vast areas of usually Nomadic lands so there is much less Nomadic menace.

Battle goes for quite some time but we win in the end. Two out of three army segments rolled Feint tactics and did well. Last army segment with Volley actually lost it's engagments against swarm tactic enemies (+200% dmg modifier for countering did our men in). What's important is that we cleaned 1/3 of nomads. Sadly our capital was reduced down to 46.5% of province wealth. Yikes! We keep building and by the end of year we improve our personal demense income so much:

zq31TPL.jpg

Seems like high stewardship + various bonuses really do stack into big improvment in yearly income :)

Year 1124
======================

Kingdom of Cumania is still not drifting into our empire. So scratch my whole paragraph you read earlier about why. It seems either I need all duchies created (we have 5/8 duchies) or it's due to single de jure Cumania county on Silkroad being held by Tibetan empire. Which was the sole reason I gave up on it as it seemed too much hassle for me. But now things changed. Tibetan fractured and those border region are under independent Tocharian Jain rule. Shahdom of Ytarimypoy has currently only around 2.000 men so we can and will jump on them for that rightfully Siberian clay.

First three months are spend on Human Resource managment. As you maybe noticed, our vassal contribution kept lowering due to more and more Mayors being over the demense limit. This is what I feared - scenario in which it starts failing. So I broaded my horizons and started inviting any unlanded, adult, unmarried male character, converting them to Orthodoxy and then stuffing them into court officies to pump their prestige up. Picking 20 years olds and younger - this way we will have longer use of them requiring less effort to keep that coming. So far it seems to be an arduous task, but remember that our generated from decisions nobles have around 10-20 years of life in office - those new replacements will have 30+ years, allowing for more stable transfers of power. Year in Court office usually is enough to allow our candidates to have way more prestige than any derpy male kids that the mayors had. So every year I will be able to prepare 6-7 candidates - not bad! Yes they are of different culture but it only results in slightly lower opinion - they can't scheme on their own or convert local province to their culture.

On April 14th last investor from bygone era died. Before his older sister so his 4.000 gold coins went away. We will fix it by inviting her as she is the last of her line. That's worth the hassle - will allow us to build between 5 to 8 universities in Siberia to help the technology spread. On topic which - we upgrade Skirmish and Melee techniques by +1 (towards level 5), Castle Infrastructure also to level 5 and Tolerance to level 5. Picked several different categories so they can start spreading as well and Tolerance to make even more courtiers across world willing to join us for free. It also allows us another level of Status of Women law but it doesn't help when it comes to barony succession system - only males inherit there.

z2DTd3F.jpg

Finally! Wasn't even so expensive :) So now we have that so everything start falling into place for some holy warring. Was quite some time since last case of our Chancellor delivering.

With our chancellor finally getting his job done, we are one step closer to commence our war in middle east. But now is not the time I think. Want to clean our administrive mess before so we can make $ while busy microing troops in Levant. Upon inspection Jerusalem and vicinity rebelled and is now in the hands of Levantine Orthodox Emirate. Well that's another Holy Sity for that +10% Moral Authority (we are at 100% MA for longest time) so we only lack Antioch now.

By May our construction status is as follows - every castle in our demense beside 4 newest in Siberia are fully done for the moment with Castle Towns, Castle Walls and Castle Fortifications. Remaining 4 are still in the process of finishing upgrading their fort levels. But that doesn't cost as much (usually between 50 and 100g). So we keep going.

After some tinkering I organize assasination on one of our needing to be fixed mayors. With over 1000% plot power it should not take a long time. Then another of our tribal vassals adopts Feudalism - we start building additional city and are on our way. Sadly it puts Emperor Vokan over his vassal limit again. As I'm tired of constantly having to fix that I spend a longer moment transfering various single county vassals in Vladimir and Nenetsia under our kin Great Duke Kezhay III "The Monk" administration. He will be next king of Nenetsia, once some problematic vassal dies (she has already Great Pox and 50+ years of age) for clear seccesion. But with transfering what we can now we go from 46 to 37 out of 43 holding limit. That will do :). Soon our bad vassal is poisoned and our candidate takes over one of cities seeded in Perm county.

u12UqxB.jpg

Bothering with those Saintly bloodlines seems to be paying off. Not only we don't have to spent focus on acquiring this, but well get it sooner as we still are hunting for Organiser commander trait while on War focus.

After lucky Saintly bloodline event, I keep fixing my mayors because most of previously invited candidates have enough prestige already. I excommunicate and execute mayor in Tynea, which thanks to first matrilineally marrying my candidate to some women there put him in court to inherit. Then we have to assasinate others. At the moment we have 6 mayors over the limit - five at 3/2 holdings and one at 3/1. We work on 3/1 first.

During Autumn we do clean one extra mess but another Mayor dies. I persist and before end of year we reduce amount of problems down to 4 with 1 of them being currently in progress of being fixed. Other 3 need between year or longer but I'm positive we can soon clean this up. Only issue might be amount of characters to replenish our stocks as we run out of free stewards. Before year ends our preferred heir at his 6th birthday pops most desired event :)

2l8AUA6.jpg

Martial/Learning isn't bad split. He received +2/+3 respectively. High hopes for more than one of those events - basic attributes not connected to any trait are such a treasure!

Year 1125
======================

Last year for this part begins with poaching more Mayor candidates. Meanwhile our chancellor did improve our relations with Basileos (hoping to maybe get that alliance sooner than the moment his son&heir with whom we already have alliance takes over). I decide to try bribes and favours as paying even 95g for already great character beats RNG creation for 400g+. Our treasury still has slightly over 13.000 gold coins.

Sadly as by the end of previous year some "Javelin throwing competition" event happened we mangled our Scholar-Bureacrat rather heavily and now he died, getting rid of our biggest construction speed and cost modifier. We have just 4.700/5.000 Grace needed so I decide to give away latest Learning Book Vokan wrote to get another Scholar-Bureacrat. We are not using it anyway and well - there are still 5 years to use that Chinese golden age.

As Vokan diligently works on resolving administering woes, 2 nomad host show up simultaneously in both some border county and Osha in the middle of Siberia. You know the drill and so do I ;). Retinues go towards enemies.

By May we reduce over the limit mayors down to 3. Trimming continues nicely :). Now that I got into swing of things I reached this zen-like state and have suprisingly some fun as I rapidly fix initial mess. Then by end of June we are looking at just two mayors needing replacement. Slightly worse on Bishopric front - we still are creating the the structure we need. Previous penalty for revoking barony without just cause times out at the end of this year. With that I can double revoke Temples in Perm and seed there our oldest son Kezhevat (Midas Touched, Shrewd, Patient = 18 stewardship and just 18 years old). Playing like this made me realise that we don't need to be in Community of Saint Basil for this to work, we just need single Monk and then we can just mass produce them from pre-selected courtiers by forcing them to take vows, followed by giving them land once they are in initial community member's court :).

Our administrative work of transfering vassals under Kezhay III is undone with his death. Well he lived (and caused us many problems across generations) long enough. Even lost both leg and his good facial features for the mess he incited. We still are looking at 40/43 demense limit. It comes to my attention that Vokan's daughter wed to Greek Prince has contracted consumption. Which is iffy when it comes to longevity of our military alliance in the future :x.

During summer our spymaster steals technology twice, giving us +100 cultural tech points in the process. Nice as I might use it for even more opinion modifiers to poach skilled characters. Previously mentioned nomads were repelled and Osha benefited from recent fortification events as it was somewhat close to surrendering before relief force arrived.

In September peasant element of our realm makes itself remembered. Another peasant revolt just east of Ural mountains. Once again due to some local ruler mistake.

AJjvtnk.jpg

Eh... Give me a break x] Feel like I squashed enough of them already.

By November we clean the traitors but... I forget to check correct box when re-ordering marriage (not sure if baron AI sends request to fulfill it) and prevent myself from fixing another mayor. Well not great but we will fix it in like a year most likely. Still did tremendous work going from 6 to 2 within 2 years. I really fill like we starting to get everything under control and our income is steadily rising. Sadly we were not gifted with that Organiser trait "yet". And on that note we will end this part - with quick look at end of this part income of Permo-Siberian empire:

Recovered from sudden wave od deaths among our barons.

Cumania isn't de-jure drifting because you don't control the full kingdom (part of it is controlled by (Ytarimy? - the beige-coloured realm to your east))

The peasants still haven't gotten the hint.

Maybe Nenetsia wants the protection of the larger Permo-Siberian realm? You could probably also give it to someone who isn't in your line of succession at all if you don't want to inherit it again.

Those close relations to the ERE might be nice. Hopefully they continue supporting the Orthodox cause and take the hint with the independent Anatolian counties...

Regarding Nenetsia - that's exactly what we did, but our uncle - Kezhay III lost ownership of Nenetsian crown due to faction installing our mother. So we have to do it again.

When it comes to everyone favourite "Purple Empire" there is a question how well do we want them to do on their own. Once they have all Orthodox holy sites they will be quite... big. They seem to be able to claim 4 out of 5 Pentarchies so it isn't out of realm of possibility that they could try to mend the shism, which would... prevent us from milking Catholic Crusade war chests. Also it would be quite weird if AI Byzantine Empire would do it's own "Restore the Roman Empire" run :D".

Part XLIV (1126-1133)

Part XLIV (1126-1133)

Year 1126
======================

Another year - another great project. Given China Golden Age period running out we too are running on tight time schedule. To make the best of it I decided to forcefully start road building in all cities across kingdom of Perm, Volga-Bolgaria, Siberia and Cumania. Costed us more than half of our treasury that left us with just 7.421 gold coins (after inviting more courtiers for our managment needs). So Vokan's Architect bloodline is finally fully utilized and those buildings are not bad - +3 gold income and some technology spread but most importantly - trade value. Hope it will help as it seems to be the only way of acquiring it as inland realm. More importanly - it is relatively quick construction and I want to start building remaining Universities in the last possible moment (cause game won't increase the cost of constructed building after starting them even if some bonuses run out). And well those will cost us an arm and leg but are important for that technology spread. From what I understand it takes around hundred years for single level of technology to spread from province to province so any bonuses will payoff in the long run. Our demense will do without it but our vassals might be technology starved.

75e159r.jpg

Time to improve the infrastructure of our empire. It is weird that roads don't improve local armies movement speed when such bonus is already in game.

Did some more checking and turns out heir to Eastern Roman Empire is one of the attackers vying for control of previously released by us county of Tao. Funny enough we can join him (we have alliance with him) and make sure it goes quickly. Not sure if I'll jump on that opportunity right now. When it comes to Muhallabids - turns out that as I wasn't looking they somehow got rid of 50% worth of decadence and once again are at almost 0. So I do give our own Muhallabid specimen in Permian court maximum number of wifes and cross fingers hoping they will finally start creating decadence. So far we had none in that aspect.

Spotted 2 direct vassal scheming so I marked them and will in time excommunicate them. As I prepare to fix another bishopric I realise that somehow right beneath my nose things were really messed up. Bishopric of Perm somehow became vassal under Duchess of Veliky-Ustug even though we always held duchy title ourself. Not sure how it happen but I have to retract it before revoking title with tyranny.

Then as I was hasty (and unlucky) we suffer one of schemer Dukes rising in revolt after missing 74% arrest chance. We will deal with him with just single retinue army as his total force don't count even 2.000 men. As my notifications arrive about bought favour, turns out 4 out of 4 are not eligible because I didn't check for them being close relatives of rulers. Well that's close to 300 gold wasted.

PVjraoI.jpg

I wonder how this happened. Didn't get involved in this personally. Slightly concerning. Also getting rid of another schemer so our reign continues without any disturbances.

Some smaller nomadic host arrives in Naberezhnye so we have work cut out for our warriors. We commence with extraction of temple in Perm and appoint Vokan's oldest son there - monk Kezhevat. With that another holding is in capable hands of high stewardship character. Just look at that income! From 16.6 to 48.2 we almost trippled monetary gain there ;). Soon we also out of nowhere get "Christian Knight modifier" - well seems remaining on War focus while in Monastic society is good for something.

SgzdT23.jpg

Fixed that Perm bishop by taking some tyranny. Our eldest son really is pulling his weight - as you can see he is tripling base income. Also not often do I get "True Christian Knight" modifier.

After that we can chill out for now. The -35 penalty to modifiers (-5 for extracting vassal and twice -15 for revoking barony without title) prevents us from further adjustments to administration atm. Kind off went under my radar but that Bishop we took titles from has over 4.000g, so it would be good idea to somehow take that funds. Will be tough inviting him as he hates ou guts (-120 for revoking 2 titles). But what can one do. Was so enraged when I spotted this "singularity" that I went into "fix it immedietely mode".

After beating Tverian rebels the siege of their holdings begins. It will be slow process and will take us probably up to autumn (and timer shows May when I write those words). Nomads were also repelled and I did another infrastructure check up across empire as some cities were finishing building something the last time I ordered construction myself thus I could not order them to make roads. We keep trying to assasinate one of mayors that needs fixing but due to his 14 intrigue we fail several attempts in a row (we are up to -600 modifier penalty on him from trying to kill him alone =D"). By end of May we finally succeed and are thus one step closer to resolving that mess. Still as I didn't have pre-picked candidate in place I can just do that now (lack of women in that court) so we need another assasination before City of Tashia in Bolgharia stops suffering from over the demense penalty. One of our wards and holder of Branicki Saintly bloodline also comes out of age - she turns really well which is great as she is to become our desired wife for genius heir. So not only will it give us that bloodline but also help with great stats.

8Xx67T1.jpg

Shrewd, Patient, Ambitious, Erudite, Kind and level 3 Learning education. This is simply great =D.

Soon after we get additional intervention trait from Monastic wards event - that makes her also Honest. As time passes to July our Master-Engineer creates fireworks guild in Kudymkar, further increasing our levies there. Before month ends we also finally sort out that Tashia's Mayor business leaving us with just 2 over the limit city vassals. Some time ago I saw notification about one of our out of personal demense Mayors getting forcefully vassalised by his de jure overlord. That make me remember why we need to have their capitals in our personal demense. It's a reminder that not everything within desired borders is paying us directly due to lack of holdings in personally owned demense. With each extra holding slot generated in Perm or Bolgharia we are looking at capability to steal 2 cities elsewhere from our's vassals.

Throughout the year, spymaster stole technology 3 times. Once for each category. Emperor's daughter recovered from Pneumonia, so our alliance with Byzantine empire seems secure (which is really lucky as due to being just courtier she did not receive any medical assistance) and we dealt with other scheming vassal before November. So the rest of this year is spend on slowly progressing that war with Tver towards 100%. There was also some extra taxation modifier event I don't recall:

ckexuNb.jpg

Think this is just some usual feudal event that due to not playing feudal in long while I simply forgot. One of actually impactful ones as that +city income % is free money for us :)

Year 1127
======================

Year is up to not great start as it turns out that our Slavic Greek vassal in Anatolia won the race to take over Tao county. So onto more revocations we go (without tyranny cause he is Slavic). Then I admit new rulers and release both him and new Iconoclast Persian count of Tao. Let's hope this time ERE will take over them. That leaves just 1 county in Anatolia that for now can make for valuable resupply point for our armies marching from Perm itself. Also local Norse ruler adopted Orthodoxy so will have to extract her title following excommunication. Oh wait. This is Anatolia. So within jurisdiction of Ecumenical Patriarch - thus I can't :/.

At least schemer rebellion is over and we once again have clean slate when it comes to troublemakers. Well not completely (there is several schemers in Nenetsia under other vassals but we can't interact with them). I do another checking round and start additional few 1st level Garrisoned Roads across empire. That leaves us with around 8.700 gold coins, which while slightly less that I would like should still be A-ok as our 250% yearly income is around 7.000 gold (which is the cost for Prosperity event). We still have around 2 years before we need to go all-in on Universities. And we are up with income once again (+2.835 gold per year). Both fixing baron vassals and building up seems to be paying off. There is one bad news though - did check but seems like we are not getting benefit of Trade bonuses from those roads - at least I don't see it anywhere where either province wealth or holding income is broken down. Still that +3 (and in future +6) gold income is worth it. Kind of sad as those few initial points of trade have the biggest impact (each following point of trade has diminishing returns). Still it goes to list of complaints beside "Why does it doesn't offer local armies movement speed bonus" :).

In February I decide to start the busy work again. Time to think about our foreign policy. Finally send Chinese our Mjollnir but soon come to regret it. Did not expect that China being Expansionist prevent them from Invading on someones behalf. So now I have over 19.000 Grace and just 3 years for Chinese Golden Age to hope for new ruler there so we might press with that. Well if not here then somewhere else. We still can invade after golden age and it should be quite some time before east starts throat singing mongol style. Still utilizing Emperor that likes wealth should be worth it. We decide on quick war against our Tocharian Jain neighbours - for our rightfully missing county in Cumania. So up we go.

RsKhlxb.jpg

Not really much to tell - we will win. It will be more marching than fightng I predict.

In following weeks as we slowly accumulate force big enough to not be threathened by defenders we manage to fix another (over the limit) mayor vassal. Which leaves us just with one. And rather short supply of candidates. Already did some "for the future" marriages with few 50+ y.o. Mayor's daughters but it might become juicy as all courts within diplomatic range have run out of skilled 20 years old stewards. One of our Bishops died and was replaced with the same quality successor so no worries there.

During summer after getting to Tocharian county of Aylik, we have to defend against Jains military might just our retinues, thus we are somewhat outnumbered. Consolidated troops into single column and picked commander with +48% damage against religious opponents. To my suprise those peaceful Jains have even some Heavy Cavalry in their army!

xb2k4Mo.jpg

Of course we are unlucky with our own tactic yet still deal some damage =.= Previously I didn't paid attention but after hitting several levels in skirmish techniques those Generic tactics rolls feel God awful :v

As predicted we lose cause our skirmish damage was non-existent. We still broke their center but in melee we were losing 1.300 men pe day :/. So peaceful Tocharians kind off bodied us left, right and center with bodies flying across silkroad. Well... will need to wait for reinforcements after that failure. So much for "another boring war" I guess. Soon in October our Chinese Princess Wife dies and we pick some kin - 43 year old with plenty of stewardship to fix our over the demense penalty without spouse. Unexpectedly we can choose between +300 prestige from marrying or... almost +1.400 gold coins instead. The choice is easy :). Maybe I should think more about it as we can acquire serious buck for marriages. The only downside - time spent on collecting gold is time not spent on procuring heir and we no longer have concubines. There might be some profit in Seduction though and playing as legitimized bastards. Seduction also feeds into intrigue. Hmmm....

Rest of year is spent on starting the assasination of our Norse Orthodox Countess in Anatolia (that is taking over count of Tao...(AGAIN) and watching as our armies cross from west to east. We manage to gather over 12,000 levies by end of year as our Tocharian adversaries lose men due to siege attrition. Finally we have 2:1 advantage in numbers. Come spring we will have our revenge!

Year 1128
======================

Last 2-3 Garrisoned Roads are ordered to be made by our feudal builders. Next year we will start Universities. Already can feel the financial pain x]. We have around 12.100 gold coins at the moment so this isn't so bad. Our yearly income reaches almost 3000 coins per year. We march our 13.000 strong army from Irtysh towards enemies that move onto Tarbagatai province. This will mean mountain fighting but let's hope or numbers will prevail.

Meanwhile our charactes suffers what seems to be Dysyntery. Gladly I found some really great new Court Physician (25 Learning, Masterful Theologian, Renowned Physician, Diligent) so it should be a-ok. Then something we haven't seen in long time pops up - Iconoclast heresy appeared in Qazan county. Orthodox Moral Authority is still at 100% so it was just unlucky roll. We instantly convert it back via monastic power but as you remember even though we eradicated it, it can still spread due to "heretic stronghold" province modifier. Well at least with 100% MA it is really unlikely and we still can fix it with Convert county power later.

nJKxWYu.jpg

Holly Molly. Inspired defence tactic twice! And they are already benefitting from defending in Mountains :O If I didn't had more heavy troops I would freak out.

Battle turns into meatgrinder that we ultimately win. With that we are almost to 0% warscore but now can freely commence with siegeing out Aylik. And our troops are still arriving!

Our case of dysyntery turns out to be a severe one - Emperor's Vokan is bedridden with -5 health alltogether! Our Renowned Physician provides good treatment thus lowering it only to -3 health but I'm not feeling too confident. There are so many things still to do! We haven't even fully sorted out succession and possibility of dying is now on the table. So we have to turn back our levies from Tocharian lands to disband them in order to declare war on Muhallabids to not lose or expensive claim. That will take even more time but hey - better safe than sorry.

The whole manouver is completed by 3rd of June and thus we are in war with Muhallabids (we call our Greek ally into it to give us some time as he has almost 10.000 troops). Maybe this will divert Sunnis into Greek lands instead of ours. Would be nice to be able to resupply in our Anatolian holdings without needed to retake them first. Then we once agan start mustering troops towards silkroad - this time with our middle eastern claim secured. After dealing with Tocharians, we will relocate towards Anatolia in order to get that vital county neighbouring Sultanate of Muhallabids allowing for future great conquest of Syria.

Ctfj347.jpg

Scary CK2 RNG might be scary :O So we start sitting war, hoping Muhallabids won't go ham on us.

So once again long months pass as the only thing that is happening is us trying and failing in assasination of our Anatolian Norse countess. Really unlucky streak of failures is going on again and this time that character has only 4 intrigue. Tocharians siege out Zaysan as we reach near number parity with them.

Then in November this happens:

g33Uttj.jpg

Well that came too early. Game once again scammed us out of trying to finally get "On Komi architectre" >.> With us de-aging character! Such is poopy way that ends 30 years of Emperor's Vokan "the Architect". During which we feudalised.

So we take over as Kezhedey genius younger brother Meltsayka as our heir. 5 Years of regency is ahead of us and for the moment our income zero'ed. Not sure how much things get screwed and we won't know until we take regain control of all lost titles. Will have to somehow kill our character. Good thing I took precautions and declared that war ahead of time! Imagine losing that claim too :V... Our Genius younger brother took over Kingdoms of Nenetsia and Cumania thus taking most of eastern half of or realm as well as some provinces in west.

Year 1129
======================

Well 1st year under new CEO begins. Did not expect that at all but hey - it is CK2 baby! Good thing we at least have wars to manage for time being to kill boredom due to being unable to use most of decisions. Something to do for now. But before that we can also start those universities. We keep going managing to fill every available county in Siberia and Cumania and then some west of Ural. That drops us from 14.000 gold to just 756 ducats. Well not that I will do anything with those anytime soon as on our underage monarch we have bad MTTH for prosperity events so we might as well make the best of that remaining year of chinese golden age ;).

RtRaU9O.jpg

Give me all the technology spread you can offer. Also more passive technology points generation soon will come in handy.

After income update it seems we preserved most of our profits. We stll have ove 3000 gold coins income per year as our brother is paying over 400 gold coins directly. If I knew that then would use discounted nobles generation (real bargain each generation for just 64g!) but I wasn't sure and won't probably have use for them atm. Most important lesson to take from it - our setup survived such unlucky ordeal. Or at least it seems like that for now.

Another vassal adopts Feudalism in February so we still slowly trickle. Now that the game reminded me about them - we could spent all remaining prestige from Vokan's, couldn't we? Well can't play perfectly all the time ;). Now it is water under bridge. Let's focus on our wars, and kill some Tocharians to start the reign with great achievment.

3U6NOIF.jpg

Our armies with our older brother Bishop Kezhevat at their helm for third battle with Tocharians. Who will come on top this time?

Once again we sent them packing. Our numbers save the day. Sadly one of our vassals mayors dies at just 32 years of age :/. Well maybe I need to to stop plots to not let them kill my carefully crafted vassals for once? We can remedy the situation but it will require some plotting to be done. We can try to excommunicate, arrest and kill to fix that and we do. Also our income updated again down to 2500 gold coins which is more in line with what I was expecting cause previously our personal demense seemed as high as previously and we lost 5 holdings in Siberia to our genius brother.

Our Armies across June retake border counties and then finally march to take over disputed Aylik region. Warscore is currently 17% in our favour. Muhallabid war is at 0% with nothing happening there. Except maybe Byzantines trying to vassalise our Slavic Greek released vassal in Trapezous. So at least that kind of progress is happening. Oh and we renewed our Byzantine alliance with Prince-Heir to empire. So we still are counting on this thanks to our older sister still being married into Greek imperial family.

July presents young emperor Kezhedey with peasant uprising in Qazan - well that +20% revolt risk from Iconoclasts and dealing with them surely was something to watch out for. Could sent Marshal there but was occupied with detoriating health of emperor Vokan. So now we have to send retinues (as our levies are on other side of empire). Ehh - logistic. Kingdom for Organiser commander to march troops quickly.

1NE1AUM.jpg

When it rains - it pours. Have to contend with all fools thinking "this is their moment". Komi iconoclasts might soon find themself without popular support.

Thanks to that revolt I spotted cheeky 3.800 strong Muhallabid host that is marching into Bolgharia! Well did not expect such commitment and skimming trough our Anatolian holdings! Color me suprised :). Well we can still deal with them using only our retinues from Perm but now they have a lot of marching to deal with rebels and Muhallabids. Ok Nvm! Turns out there is 9.800 strong muslim army marching from Nenetsian coast close to Siberian wastes down onto Permian capital. Did not expect that at all. They sailed all around Europe to naval invade through worst supplied arctic lands. That's some commitment!

oiQ2hE1.jpg

Suprising AI offensive manouvers! It's not merely Artificial Intelligence move - it's worthy of Autistic Intelligence! I like it :D

That also means that now we have close to 12.000 enemy troops that are nearing our capital. Not great. We have to disband our levies on Tocharian front (our vassals + retinues can still continue fighting there) to re-raise them (for the third time) back in Perm. Muhallabids are moving straight towards our capital and soon we will give them battle, painfully - unable to fully join our forces in area. We barely win but killed 2/3 of Muhallabid invasion force and previously spotted 3.000 troops went back south leaving their allies high and dry. That mostly deals with that danger and now we can fully commit to squashing Qazan rebelion. Wow this game still manages to suprise me!

By december after grueling and bloody melee with light troops on both sides, we defeat rebels from Qazan. Our ruler turns 12 years old and gets childhood trait event - Fussy turns into Patient. Good moment to pinpoint that with Vokan's dying prematurely we lost ability to infuence our Genius heir education with regards to what type of education it will choose. Let's hope for either Stewardship, learning or diplomacy as they can improve MTTH for prosperity events. Still that 2 leaders in a row that we will get without having final say in what they are educate in.

Year 1130
======================

As we clear up some Muslim stragglers in Kudymkar, Tocharians once again march onto us, to relieve besieged holdings in Ayilk. We have over 1.000 men more and another 4.000 on route. Should be ok. But before we can do it, my game crashes due to internet connection. As I fear that we once again will be forced to replay this part from the start - turns out if I rejoin immedietely it brings us back to moment the game crashed =D.

Pos7gm8.jpg

Those Generic Skirmishes really hurt. Especially with Skirmish technique level 5 :/

We steadily beat Tocharians down. Game punishes me after restarting as the very next day 2 of my mayors die at once, once again creating penalties :/. Well at least Tocharians are on the run again, and our warscore rises to 87%. We lost only 1.000 men but killed around 2.000 of them. That should be the last battle, as we are finishing taking over holdings in targeted province. Our levies in Perm garrison Udmurts county after suffering winter attrition just as huge 5.500 strong nomadic host appears to loot Perm county.

By end of April we conclde war for last county in kingdom of Cumania. With that everything within de jure borders is ours. Leaving just the war in middle east. We must re-muster our vassal troops again though. We then enage nomadic looters in Perm and notice that some 2.500 strong Muhallabids are intercepting or small vassal forces 1 by 1 as they travel. Our younger brother creates title - duchy of Ob, which will be a hassle for us later to deal with.

After fighting in Perm is done we see that once again we managed to lose 49% province wealth :/. Then our brother king somehow pushes another idea despite being in regency - holy war for Altay against Tocharians we just beat. Problem being they still have more troops than him. At least due to his age he can't kill himself by leading troops.

Before autumn we manage to trash 2.500 strong muslim force in the area and send first 7.000 strong army into Anatolia. Our Byzantine ally calls us to war against Khazaria that he is rapidly losing. Seems like Yellow menace once again spilled into Eastern Europe at the cost of Romuvan Lithuanians. This time they will have to face off with strong Byzantine empire that also is slowly enchroaching into this region. Beside Orthodox Bohemia and Holy Roman Empire there is little to stop them. So they basically can expand till they meet us. Even Scandinavia isn't safe as Finland is Paulician and Jomvikings managed to start carving small realm for themself in Cathar Norway.

Year ends with our Master-Engineer building papermill in Pil'va and me pushing even more universities to be build in our western half of realm. Lowering treasury to just 284 ducats in the process. But hey as chinese golden age is still here it would be sin not to take advantage of.

Year 1131
======================

At last - Kingdom of Cumania starts drifting towards our Empire. Well it will take 100 years but hey - it is something :). Might help in one of following wars against Mongols.

Another 2.000 stong Muhallabid army shows up and I have to recall my retinues. Goddammit this is annoying. As my levies cross towards Anatolia I notice that Sultan is somewhere in Caucas mountain range leading troops but nothing happens. He should be back home defending especially as he suffers peasant rebelion in Antioch (16.000 troops).

As nothing happens let me spent a moment on some more economically related matter. Did some calculations as I wondered how much does it cost to build up each of holdings and how much wealth will be needed to be poured into our burgeoning feudal empire to max it. All assuming our non-coastal holdings together with our unique city structure:

===================
How much it will cost?
===================
Cost of fully developing Castle - 10.730g + 48.358 days (132,48 years)
Cost of fully developing Temple - 7.950g + 36,313 days (99,48 years)
Cost of fully developing City - 10.985g + 41,286 days (113,11 years)
Cost of fully developing Hospital - 11.600g + 6,565 days (17,98 years)

Total Raw cost (without modifiers): 804.750 (75 Castles) + 318,000 (40 Bishoprics) + 1.065.545 (97 Cities) + 1.020.800 (88 province Hospitals) = 3.209.095 gold coins
Total cost with current modifiers (46,3%- 35,9%): between 1.485.810g and 1.152.065g

It is fascinating and I wasn't aware how much fully build holdings are worth. Also how much does it cost to fully upgrade even our holding starved realm. This number seems attainable but I will have to put some effort. Especially as we are not taking everything from mayors and bishops. You also can see why focusing on gold cost is so important and to lesser extent (after taking slow technology spread) construction speed. At the moment in the remaining 300 years we will make over 750.000 gold coins at least. I expect more as we will keep upgrading cities, getting modifiers and creating more holdings to collect taxes from more cities. Another 750.000 will be collected by mayors themself. Those were also values including all military building that we won't be paying. But we will have others expenses including more Great Works and prosperity events. Getting another -10% construction time with our current modifiers still shaves off at least 115.206 gold coins! That's taking into account diminishing returns but also Chinese golden age that soon should vanish. Of course the price will continue to go down as we keep building with prestige in few remaining tribes and construction technology spreads. Might be really profitable to later nationalize some vassal funds to reinvest them into wonder building.

Takes us up to September to transport enough soldier to think about finally going onto offensive. At least we weakened somehow Muhallabids so far.

iMFtBrx.jpg

Enemies don't push into Anatolia, being content with just siegeing our single Barony in Edessa. Thus we can amass men for attack in peace.

Beside that nothing happened this year - no events nor emergencies. So we advance towads Edessa with our army where some concentration of enemy troops is spotted. Enemies retreat and then sacrifice half of their army to save the other half. Meanwhile our other childhood trait evolves into Temperate but sadly we aren't lucky to get Stressed :/. Would help with what I have in mind.

After beating some of locals we move our 17.000 levies towards Cilicia to finally stat besieging that county father of our character pressed his claims for almost 4 years ago.

Year 1132
======================

Year starts by spotting another 2.000 Muhallabid host marching towards our capital. Our retinues are on the move. Damn having low Martial as kid while not having levies home really stings. With <1.000 men in garrison such pitiful armies are something we have to deal with. Byzantines managed to vassalize Jerusalem thus now they have 3 out of 5 pentarchies under their direct control.

DTlQqKK.jpg

Is AI Eastern Roman Empire on it's run to mend the great schism? We will help them with Antioch so if only they are strong enough to tackle Egypt we might seem MEGA Byzantium :D

Our 16.000 men are besieging Cilicia that has far better supplies than Edessa. Resulting in now attrition losses on our part. Still have to watch out as Muhallabids have over 19.000 troops and might try to wait us out and let attrition soften us. So after taking Cilicia over we will patiently wait there, absorbing reinforcements thanks to being in owned territory. Thanks to finding +80% Siege commander we are taking rapidly over holdings (32% progress per tick on castle!).

During March our Greek coreligionists decide to push into Khazars taking example from their heir to the throne. He himself is losing badly (-91% warscore) but hey maybe with whole might of purple blob it might change the fate of his unsuccesful war. Basileos wants Galich, meaning they will expend into de jure Galicia-Volhynia, where currently huge chunk of Khazarian khaganate is located).

With May we are completely controling war target and move to relieve our single holding inside Edessa. That put's us at exactly 80% warscore. Enemies are losing against peasant rebelion cause they are not tackling that problem instead of just staring at us menacingly. Maybe we will be able to quickly tackle another holy war for Antioch?

As Summer greets us, our steward dies (creating 3/1 bishop problem in one of temples) and to my dismay it turns out that Meltshayka picked Martial education =.=. Thanks AI! On top of that he is already Slothful. So not only he will not get good modifiers but also will get few extra attributes from education... And extra levies from martial will make it extra difficult to declare great conquest on Muhallabids in the future. Meeeeh! As we trounce enemies in Edessa peasant rise up in far south-western part of our realm. After thinking it later it seems even worse development - we really would like Martial character after Meltshayka for Mongols. But now we are forced to make rather difficult choice - do we double on two non-prosperity rulers in a row or just give up?

4A5b31Q.jpg

Not only we have it in our realm only because of AI but also it will be difficult to put down.

Once September rolls out we are at 93% warscore in Cilician war. Our Byzantine ally also takes over his old man mantle and now is Basileos. Which means we have powerful ally with 60.000 troops to help us when we need it :). Soon we finish the whole war and have our staging point for taking over holy lands.

FRFU7Tt.jpg

Single county but so much opportunity thanks to it! That concludes last of conflicts Kezhedey inherited from his father.

Having some gold on hands I splurge on even more universities. We are mostly done with building them and there are only few provinces without one that contain cities (due to not having high enough technology). That was really expensive but should prove to be great investment towards future.

Year 1133
======================

Raiders, raiders everywhere! 3 seperate groups befall us in 3 different places. At least by February we finally take care of that nomadic uprising far south. Our levies were disbanded but some retinues have to still travel back home from Anatolia. Muhallabids after recent defeat suffer civil war (small one) and Eastern Roman Empire now demands Galilee. Our purple allies are nicely carving kingdom of Jerusalem for themself so for now they don't intrude on Syrian Kingdom within our sights. That will speed up planned downfall of Egyptian influence in Levant.

Before spring our character finally comes out of age. He is mixed bag - Smart but only level 1 stewardship education. Patient and temperate but that's that. We immedietely pick Rulership focus and "See the Realm Prosper" ambition (to make the most of ideally short reign). We also become the guardian for our younger brother to make him somewhat better. Upon thinking it later as I realised how much of a setback we suffered with AI deciding to make out a soldier out of Meltshayka, the focus pick was more nuanced. Given that development it isn't so clear cut that Kezhedey has to die. He still has stewardship education that leaves him with potential. Very unlikely as we are only reliably counting on Trade Route from business focus to give us single stewardship education upgrade. Rest is resting on Rulership focus providing more than usually. Most of the time you will get stressed and depressed, but rarely events that are rng on success. Winning that lottery gives us either lifestyle modifier, just, ambitious, diligent or education upgrade. Those are all great but most of the time I can spent 30-40 years on that and still only get 1 or 2 of those. So developing Kezhedey is pretty much down to chance. We can try getting our luck with book writing but I don't like our chances without lifestyle trait. If I wasn't hasty Learning for once seems decent if we consider going down the Cultural->Necronomicon route for that +6/+7 Learning. That would fill the lack in regards to learning attribute and is relatively quick. But once again it is commitment to playing az Kezhedey iinstead of Meltshayka ergo hoping that Rulership will make Kezhedey great but later. At this point I'm forced by my impulsivness to just wait and see how Rulership behaves.

hOrMLRe.jpeg

Well that's why I didn't want to play him x] Even with all artifacts his Learning is bad, Stewardship barely passable, no diligent and lowest education... He could make for ok Bishop but not Emperor.

We also start the voting on giving the ruler final say on title granting. We have 8 vassal limit not in use and well not having to consult council might be great when we think about seceding Nenetsia. Now we can finally start to clean the mess that not being able to plot and excommunicate created during regency.

We have two mayors that need fixing. Both can be managed thanks to having some lowborn female courtiers on our hands. First mayor in Bolgharia get's excommunicated, arrested and executed thus the problem is resolved. The other is in the work via assasination means (only 200% plotpower). If not lucky then we will excomunicate him later too.

By October we succeed in plot but I find 2 more over the limit mayors. So back to square one I guess. And we run out of candidates to take over. Then I do a round of inviting new character and this time return with more than satysfying results. Most of them aren't super young but hey - it's still better than suffering penalties. Our assasinations fire and fail in meantime. New Jewish steward is also procured. He soon gathers special tithe giving us +1.200 gold coins. This will help for now to patch our finances.

We suffer from negative prestige as reinforcing our retinues costs an arm and a leg. But soon it will resolve itself. Also we push through with more universities (mostly in our personal demense). Those start to stack up as we get over +1.7 economic technology points from buildings alone. Seems like Golden Age will persist till another change of Chinese Emperor happens - which is fine by me. I might also try some hospital upgrades at only fraction of cost :). But that is for another part. Sadly we kind of went up and down due to succession when it comes to income:

UCzp31J.jpeg

Unexpected events be unexpected. That's almost 500 gold per year less that we are getting. So it seems we didn't make any progress since last part =<

Hopefully picking the Rulership focus gives Kezhedey the depressed trait (so you can end his reign quickly)

How long will it take for the ERE to annex Tao?

The plan with Syria is to conquer it and then give it to the ERE, right?

Those Muslims are determined.

That's the plan but the decision since then started to look less clear. Smaller martial score can help with arrangeing Permo-Muhallabid war and well there is also Prosperity advantages assuming current ruler gets lucky.

No idea - AI behaviour seems really random at the time. For quite a long time (50+ years) Hellas was ruled by independent Orthodox Greek Duke but only lately ERE decided to vassalise him. In case of those Anatolian counties I'm mostly worried if ERE will make it in time before some of my own vassals there undo my whole work.

I haven't decided what to do with Syria. Could make seperate Orthodox Greek Kingdom there but it probably collapses once Mongols rampage through Persia. On other hand feeding whole kingdom to Greeks without Persians&Egyptians taking chunks of it is down to luck. Could instead assign Orthodox Greek rulers there with relatively high martial as Dukes at most and hope Basileos vassalises them in the long run and protects them against Muslims in the meantime. That's tough choice and I won't lie - want to kind off finish that "pet sideproject" as quickly as possible.

Part XLV (1134-1142)

wtYAaXJ.jpeg

Part XLV (1134-1142)

Year 1134
======================

Weird phase of game begins. Not sure what to do now as our plans went awry during last part with our "Architect" Emperor dying prematurely. We just concluded several wars and are still on ceasefire cooldown. Invited some more mayor candidates but not too many as we pretty much have things under control and new generation is in the making (acquiring prestige to outrank male blood relatives of mayors currently in power). There is little administrative work to be done, as I haven't sorted out previously Tocharian Jain county of Aylik - meaning there are still not ours barons in place (1 city and 2 temples).

Our collaborators proceed with assasination of yet another over the demense burgher but just as we clean that mess, another one dies leaving us at still two 3/1 demense vassals. So we start arrenging 2 more marriages to introduce new courtiers (of our choosing so with high stewardship) into those courts. Then I also create another high stewardship member of monastic society (without being member of one) as our retinues by the silkroad march onto Aylik to police the dissidents during religious extraction of holdings. Thus the three initial months of this year come to pass.

With advent of spring I have to make choice - either revoke with tyranny 3 temples of our over the demense limit bishop in Bolgharia or to fix 4th temple within de jure duchy of Perm to assign freshly revoked temples from Jains into our network. I opt for 2nd option. This is more longterm strategy of fixing and suffering some penalties short term. Thanks to including those silkroad holdings already within our taxation network we save ourself time later to fix it. That leaves Kezhedey with 10/9 demense so I appoint new mayor in that last holding (city) in Aylik. We will probably lose him anyway and currently we have no capacity to take it in.

Just as I look around world I spot that Eastern Roman Empire secured even nicer strip of coastal counties in kingdom of Jerusalem and Miaphysite realm of Assyria is getting dismantled by Persians. Funnily enough it is currently ruled by quite a specimen but it doesn't seem to help him. It helps us to simplify possible future scenarios - without other Christian realm in the vinicity the handing down of Syria will be much more predictable.
liKGJ1K.jpeg

Satan can't help him! Absolutely diabolical! Sidenote - was thinking about Satanic Assyria Playthrough as those satanists include both Christians and Muslims characters thus could help tremendously if going for remaking Assyria. Maybe in the future.

May starts with succesful cleanup of recent issues when it comes to Bolgharian city administration. Leaving us with just one burgher in Kudymkar county that needs help to uphold purely meritocratic virtues of our empire . For some reason his son takes over him as sending our candidate with higher prestige didn't help. So it will take 2 assasinations. We start with higher plot power (430%+) on heir. In three weeks time the first attempt fires, just as close to 3.000 nomad riders from small Khaganate of Bukhal show up south-west of our guard garrison in Burtasy.

Another mayor in Perm dies, but we had his replacement already in place so it doesn't need any input from us for another 15-20 years. If you wondered we currently utilize exactly 20 multi-barony city vassals and only 1 out of them is over the demense limit. So far it is pretty much doable. More concerning is our Bishop candidate stock as they need slightly higher stewardship (around 2) and well be of our religion + non married. We don't fully control where they come and go too so we might need to spam decision for courtiers to take the vows in order to secure every bishopric has replacement already in place. That's way more work.

Halfway through the year our Genius younger brother and king of Cumania - Meltsayka comes out of age. And ouch did he turn not great...
lG3PXNK.jpeg

Second level martial education is not great but is mostly irrevelant for us. Slotfhul hurts and Trusting/Humble are no issue. Our currently equipped artifacts grant +4 Stewardship and Learning so he stacks pretty poorly compared to Kezhedey... Lackluster genius indeed.

Turns out Prince Kezhevat (oldest of Vokan's children) was the best candidate for Emperorship with Midas Touched/Shrewd/Diligent =.=. Well you win some, you lose some and we definetely are now inside losing streak. At least my new idea about enabling one of our older Norwegian candidates to become bishop played out as after excommunicating him first then imprisoning we could force him to abandon his marriage. Out of 3 courtiers I send to Community of Saint Basil, 2 joined temple in Kudymkar (which had the oldest local ruler) and other went to Tynea. So for now only Perm Temple (ruled by Prince Kezhevat) and freshly re-arranged temple in Udmurts are without spares. But both of them are just 30 years old at the moment. We are also 4 out of 6 temples in Perm at already "established" status. In 5 years we can revoke another as tyranny will vanish. I predict it will be more of a matter of finding skilled enough characters instead of opinion penalties that will prove a problem.
IUQ8GIB.jpeg

Establishing our own profit oriented administration of church estates

Together with Autumn arriving, our Burtasy retinues make their way into south-western border region to contest raiding attempt. We roll them through even without great commanders (something that was plaguing us for quite some time, our officer core seriously detoriated even with Emperor's Vokan focusing on War hobby for years). Mostly because all of them roll swarm related tactics and we can only roll harass, meaning +200% dmg dealt due to countering their tactics. We lose only 600 men but kill twice as many. Then we get informed that chancellor of one Basileos vassals bordering our new holdings in Syria, generated claim for him. That is actually useful for different reasons than usually. I don't expect to be attacked. Can expect for whoever we let be independent with that county to get attacked though. Which is a rare win-win situation. The current holder of that CB is just 34 years old so he might be usable, if we fight Muhallabids on schedule. Also as my Marshal is moved to improve the sorry state that is Permo-Siberian military, Bishop is proseletyzing in capital trying to get rid of some heretics stewardship courtiers (to make them eligible to become part of Orthodox monastic society). That will increase range of characters that we can utilize. Almost forgot - steward made a bank again:
Fv5dhbb.jpeg

Steward parked outside our Patriarch converting courtiers make him safe and also that extra cash might help recuperate our treasury.

Sadly our alliance with Greeks ended because exactly year ago our sister died (murdered by the Hashashins after her husbands unexpectedly inherited the Byzantine throne). We weren't expecting him to claim the purple yet he did after his elder brother died due to gout complications. Kind of shame that we weren't able to utilize it but what can you do. We also do not have any relatives to try again to fish for that alliance.

End of year presents us "emulating the saint legend" event that makes our ruler Kind and grants "Emulating the Legend" modifier for additional +5 vassal opinion. Both give us +10 vassal opinion total which is something to help offset tyranny temporary hits while still not having any "long reign" bonus relations modifier. Our Genius brother keep being problematic and I want to tear my hair off - he indebted himself to hire court physician to treat his flu. He is -730 gold coins that we will have to pay for once he inherits. But he already loaned 350 coins from jews too which means that within a year of becoming an adult he generated over 1.000 gold coin loss >.>. Also - due to being bankrupt and his not great stats he starts accumulating all possible negative province modifiers in 5 counties he personally holds... We made him advisor as one spot just become open to make him less angry but I swear to God if it wasn't for that whole Genius+Bloodline I would consider murdering him out of spite xD.

Year 1135
======================

We start next year with 4.729 gold coins which is more than expected. Enough to think about some still discounted construction. We spent over half of that on another few universities whenever we can. We are mostly done with squeezing them whenever we can so the huge financial sacrifice can start paying off (once they finish constructing as it takes 2-3 years for every one to be built). We also have spammed them within Perm counties itself and to my suprise we can already upgrade them to 2nd level.
674pXrc.jpeg

Much of work in regards to technology spread is done. Some of those 0 have only temples, few counties still wait on technology to build their universities (mostly North-Eastern Cumania, central Cumania (Kazakh duchy) and some counties on the east side of Ural mountain.

Our Chinese friends visit us in person of inspector and we let him in. Some extra grace probably won't hurt. Didn't thought about getting peace treaty before and now on Expansionist policy we aren't allowed to. We could, if we took Han Princess as a wife, but I don't want offspring on this ruler. We are still waiting for coming of new emperor while enjoying golden age goodies to finally use that 19.2k grace accumulated by sending them Mjollnir recently. Then in February last assasination succeeds and thus we have no over the demense limit mayors in the realm . For time being we will target that over the holding limit bishop as there is small chance newly generated by game holder might be an incarnation of King Midas and it will fix itself and well... for exercise.

Master Engineer creates "Administrative Outpost" province modifier in Pil'va (+1 Economy and Culture technology point). Then we get another step in Chinese visit event chain and I opt for medium approach. Then we get notification of another of our tribal vassal adopting feudal goverment. Nice - it unlocks another holding slot to be used for town. Which is utilized at once.
SVUf9vN.jpeg

While some eastern parts are still tribal we are advancing nicely. Kind of weird to have that isolated island of feudal blue inside Nomadic yellow.

There are some tribes still to use our prestige on, but we did not recovered enough of it yet. Currently Kezhedey sits at 117 fame with +10.97 monthly income. Our assasination was once again a success and it improved the situation - 2 stewardship bishop got replaced with 11 stewardship character thus changing 3/1 into 3/2 holding limit situation. Out of curiosity I check yearly income and it shows +2.730 for the moment. So once again we improved .

May proves generous with another steward special tithe (+1.350 gold coins ain't bad!). Then we get some event allowing us to either lose lustful or get Deceitful. While extra intrigue might be nice, we have no use for extra fertility so off it goes!

By Autumn construction of another city in far south-west is finished and we assign there one of our stewards (Ethiopian Orthodox with 16 stewardship). Seems like 17 stewardship is what we need cause sending people to monasteries might give them stressed/depressed which lowers their stewardship by 1. With 17 even after that penalty they will be able to keep holding 3 holdings. We at once start building city starting pack - 2 levels of walls and 1 level of town and university. It will take some time. Then we get visited from trading caravan from india that after being hosted in our realm, leaves us with 17 diplomacy Ethiopian eunuch.
DmZFFC4.jpeg

Whole visits went smoothly. Good for us! Thus Permo-Siberian relations with Chinese empire blooms.

Year 1136
======================

Another January is rather peaceful and uneventful. With close to 6.000 gold coins to our name and no events the first thing of note happens in February - Pil'va reaches final level of prosperity. Not that we will use it now as our chances are rather awful. How awful?

=============================================
Emperor Kezhedey MTTH (18 Stewardship, Shrewd)
=============================================

New Holding Slot - 42,64 years
Province Modifier - 29,52 years
=============================================

Well this is like 50% worse than most of our characters. We are lacking a lot of things (6-8 more learning, diligent, level 3+ education, lifestyle). However bleak that outlook is, Genius Kezhedey is even worse and holds less promise to improve over time, as he already picked War Focus and probably will end with military lifestyle trait thus will become unable to benefit from prosperity bonus lifestyles on top of wrong education.
Zi8rAJB.jpeg

First rulership grant! Kind of matches our current feeling about how this gameplay is going D:

Finally something focus related happens and we get stressed. Good thinking on my part of getting rid of lustful instead of acquiring Deceitful. With that we are not in the risk of losing stressed due to being the trait limit. Still it is not depressed, which would be superior choice. At least it is something! Also didn't tell you but I decided to take small detour with our realm Priest and converted Teleuch in Silicia from Sunni to Orthodoxy to prepare it more for future Greek Overlords.

In following months one of our mayors in Udmurts dies and is replaced by his not up to stuff son. So we start arranging a solution to this unwanted state. Also our temple in Kudymkar changes owner but as we already had 2 replacements there no issue arrises. Two more universities are started (one in western Kazakh so the technology slowly spreads) and more assasinations happens. But somehow they don't fix the mess. Went extra mile and found more candidates for future usage
PKmPinN.jpeg

Jews won't accept being converted via decision so they will be strictly for Cities. Each other skilled character is for office of bishop.

Our jewish Chancellor dies and is replaced with Eunuch Ogbai (17 diplomacy) - the newcomer from recent trade caravan. Then for the rest of year I keep assasinating mayor of Uva in Udmurts but instead of our candidate new character keep spawning. Have no idea why. Maybe because our Polish courtier married into that court is heretic? We know that culture is not an issue. Orthodox Komi courtier was send to other woman in the location and try again with murder but fail before end of year. Used one of our Jews now. Let's she how that shapes up.

Year 1137
======================

Just one more year of no "violence" to finish prosperity ambition. Meanwhile we occupy ourself with figuring out why our tested method so far stopped working. We also increased our wealth up to 7.661 gold coins. No building anything yet.

In March our Permo-Siberian Patriarch dies and is replaced with 23 Learning holy man. He is set onto our capital aiming for that 90% yearly chance of converting courtiers. This might go around Jewish negative modifier towards being converted to Orthodoxy. Would help tremendously as game keep spawning those 20+ Stewardship Jewish courtiers and they would make for fantastic Bishops. Before end of month our Temple in Udmurts gets messed up as our man there dies due to several symptoms and stress before turning 40. Oh FFS >.<.

Then I spend the rest of the year on finally figuring out what was failing us. Yep - it was a religion. So those Jews as long as they don't convert are useless for us. But we know we can convert them with Chaplain (finally giving them a job) so we will slowly acquire them. After figuring that out we clean both problematic vassals.

Beside that we get an event that grants us +2 Intrigue thanks to our ruler Cynical nature. Well it won't hurt for sure. Won't hurt us I mean .

Year 1138
======================

Another year in the counting and our treasury accumulated over 9.500 gold. Well now we are starting to once again talk about numbers. With yearly income of 2.756 we are back in the "rich zone". According to my calculation we need around 6.700 gold coins for prosperity events. Then by March we convert the first courtier to Orthodoxy... Which turns out to be 36 years old Muhallabid noblemen! Which is totally not what I intended and it must be pointed out the chance for it wasnt high with over 10+ infidels at court >.>. Well at least we still have his son that freshly came out of age but turned better despite our sincere efforts on making him as bad as possible. We collect 4 lustful wives for him and cross the fingers that he producess more decadent candidates. So far the whole scheme was a flop
e64okpf.jpeg

Somehow our Muhallabid breeding programme didn't result in anything desirable so far...

By end of March prosperity ambition is fullfilled. Now we don't really have much of a personal goal for our Emperor. We pick "Make a friend" from lack of better alternatives. At least now we can deal with single direct schemer vassal that we just hawkishly observed in the past years.

With spring random leper from capital hospital arrives and we decides to let him in. I'm getting some "Death" vibes so I would better play nice with him. Also always curious to see new things. Turns out to be nothing special so he just... rots in our court. Kolva also reaches 1st prosperity level. Nothing happens so far. It was at this moment that I went back and read what happened in last chinese event 3 years ago to realise it already concluded. Was still waiting for more =D"...

During summer once our retinues arrive at schemer capital we fire arrest attempt with help of Marshal. He improved chances from 49% to 72% and we succeeded thus Duchess Chitska of Vologda can be removed from power without any extra bloodshed. We excommunicated her ages ago so now we can just remove her head and be done with it.
f2Q3tEM.jpeg

Order is restored As you can see I became less and less dependent on Excommunications thus easing the stress of it being somehow limited.

Our Permo-Siberian Patriarch converts twice in quick succession (one is some random russian martial courtier with cancer so doesn't do much for us but other is someone we procured). Thus we get 20 Stewardship Tocharian to use and we send him to monastery. RNGesus throws him into court of Prince Kezhevat in Perm itself thus with that we have 3 counties in Perm secured with more than single monastic society member there. I'm getting a distinct feeling this is going to be an uphill battle. To be honest I'm not sure if it is doable. If it was 6-8 temples then sure - with amount of characters that we have access to in this part of year it is on average doable. But with 11-12 temples it is a huge question mark. Because of how RNG decides to split our candidates we might need between 30 to even 50-60 characters to have every Bishopric populated. It isn't impossible number but we definetely are operating into upper limits of what may be feasible. So we will learn as we play how realistic my assumption was . So let's improve our chances here shall we?

First of all let's see how many infidels do we have in court. There are 9 such characters in our court after we get rid of some prisoners lingering in our dungeons. One of them (our steward) is operating outside of capital so that leaves us with 8. That includes our Muhallabid "boyo" that we don't want to convert. There is also Catholic wife of his, 2 chinese bureacrats for bonuses and 3 kids. We don't care if any of them gets converted yet if possible I'll ask them to go away. That leaves us currently with just 1 courtier that we want to convert. Let's invite more of them and improving the chance in our favour. Some time later I'm harvesting my attempts. Out of 14 fished characters 9 joined my court (each try costed between 15 and 95g cold which isn't cheap but beats "Invite Nobleman" decision that currently costs 740g). This time my undoing was not checking marriage (was checking claims) and to lesser extent close relative. Still thats 9 new potential targets for our Patriarch putting us 9/17 possible target characters that we want to convert. That's much better odds than 1/8. Scrap that some characters accept demand to convert. So 7/15 but we don't waste our realm priest effort on something that can be easily done via other means.

In December invitation from monastery on Mount Athos arrives again. We had this event previously but we go. Was hoping for that 20% on +1 Learning but we didn't get it. At least our genius brother is up to something productive as he acquired Organiser trait (something that I failed to do so much despite trying). This trait makes writing "on Komi Architecture" more likely. He is also lvl 1 modifier towards Duelist lifestyle (now simply Warrior). But then he makes me change my good opinion as he declares holy war against Mongols for duchy of Altay... Please don't kill yourself >.>! So far he didn't made an heir and we want him to do so very much! His wife from Saint Branicki's bloodline is waiting...

Year 1139
======================

At long last "Out of patience" penalty fades granting us +2 to most if not all attributes. With that Learning is now 12 which is a modifier for prosperity. Yay! Somewhat less awful now. As for initial months I have nothing to do I look and notice that Byzantines slowly take coastal counties in Syria. Well that's nice. Muhallabids squashed 1 rebellion but are still in 2 wars. Our ceasefire still has 3 years before it expires but I would like them to stabilize and replenish their manpower - otherwise we won't be able to declare great conquest on them. Currently they have 17.000 out of 32.000 possible levies. We have 39.000 but we can evaporate 9.000 personal levies easily and doing quick math we need around 34.000 troops for them to be at least 95% as strong as us, thus being eligible target for that Casus Beli.

By April Muhallabids put down other civil war recovering potential of upward to 42.000 troops (more than us!) and moving to deal with African sultanate of Cucungid. We finally time out penalty for tyranny (revocation of bishopric) so we do it again. To fix the mess in Udmurts. Before that angry message from Captain of Permo-Siberian mercenary band arrives telling us that they went rogue. Not so fast my friend - I paused and replace disloyal Captain with another courtier and thus whole situation is resolved and our 19.000 gold coins remain secure (to be harvested at future date).
D47V32t.jpeg

You too can fix your mistakes by cheap price of -45 relations with every vassal for 5 years!

That whole operation gave me new idea. As we are waiting on depression but have the plots in kingdom going on, we can after war with Muhallabids go "North Korea mode" and fix everything at once using arrests and revocations to hope our most loyal vassal assasinate us. That would fulfill both needs at once. Not only would it help change characters but also establish whole church administration at once. One thing that would help with that is having only Ruler deciding on Imprisonment. Just so happens we could change another law for over a year now. Let's get that power back to Emperors!
Plda8hE.jpeg

Getting council to vote on what we want proves somewhat difficult after just showing some tyranny but we manage to acquire minimal majority.

During voting one of our advisor passes away and we replace that position with loyalist duchess from Tver. Thus we have 3 loyalists and 1 bought vote on top of ruler vote so the law change passes with 5 for and 3 votes against. We could do it even cheaper (as in draws ruler vote decides) but didn't expect advisor death before handing out the bribe.

As summer turns to autumn, we chase off some smaller nomadic host that arrives in... south-western Cumania that was peaceful for many years if not decades. We watch as our brother army of 6.000 men ventures into steppes. Let's hope they return safe no matter what the war result might be. As you can probably expect - I don't have particularly high hopes for that far eastern expedition.

Nasty suprise presents itself in October as our distant kin from other side of Ural mountains declares de jure war on our mayor for his holdings inside his duchy. I thought it was impossible cause they would need to target me. Have to use for the first time decision to demand him cease his war but we have to pay over 500 gold in exchange. I hush the gold for now but it might require different approach in the future. One such method might be enforcing realm peace.

As year ends I see our brother armies coming back with 700 troops less that he ventured forth with, but having earned Brave trait and Uyghur's 8.800 strong army approaching in hot pursuit. Oi... Our Muhallabid courtier before end of years becomes father of a girl and a boy. So far so good.

Year 1140
======================

Year starts with a bang. Just look at this...
5RRKdcS.jpeg

Well they are in golden age and are expansionist but I did not expect it. They just made Persia their tributary. May be a problem

That is slightly concerning oO. Western Protectorate itself has 21.000 troops. But it has 3 tributaries. One of them is Tibet Empire with 59.000 levies, then is Uyghur Barsid Khaganate that is (as we can see from their fights against Emperor's brothers) fielding around 9.000 mounted troops, lastly Farukid sultanate who can field upwards to 30.000 levies. That's a lot of levies that can be called into wars :O. Around 119.000 men to be more precise. All of a sudden I miss our alliance with Eastern Roman Empire xD. The only saving grace is that current Emperor Li Muzong is 62 years old so he shouldn't live much longer. On other hand - our plan to dismantle Farukids probably just went up in flames - I don't think they will invade one of their tributaries (we will try to check anyway).

Upon further inspection (that took me up to March) there is more of interesting trivia. Current Farukid Sultan is Decadent and his dynasty is accumulating around 1.5% decadence each year. It isn't so rosy though - he holds 2 kingdom level titles and I'm not familiar whether decadence revolts destroy all titles of the same highest rank or just one. So it might or might not change anything. Well maybe Decadence revolt will give them independence from Western Protectorate? Not familiar how those mechanics interact.

Luckily on last day of May our Master-Engineer creates Paper Mill in capital. That +10% Local tax modifier will come in handy .

In Summer envoy from Chinese empire arrives. It kinds of spooks me because at first I think they want us to become tributaries but no. They just want to investigate things the same way they did previously during this part. We accept. Better to not anger the dragon.

With August I realise we can betroth daughter of Basileos - 7 years old Princess Apollonia to get non-aggression pact. This won't do for alliance though. Still in 9 years it will translate into military alliance. Doesn't exactly help us now as we will probably fight Muhallabids sooner but might deter Western Protectorate expansion. So it is another one of longterm plans. If worse comes to pass we can just join Monastic Society to lower the chance of siring a heir or (most preferably) kill our depressed ruler way before having a child become a real risk.
T2KmfOv.jpeg

Geopolitcs development be like that. All of sudden to not lose our profits we need good military alliance. Also it allows us to help Eastern Roman Empire if needed in their expansion.

Back in Perm itself, our Chinese guest is accompanied by Emperor Kezhedey himself. Somehow his random comments about arctic weather get interpreted really positive and it earns us extra favour with China. Maybe we just avoided Permo-Chinese war over Siberia. Let it avert the Chinese gaze somewhere else.

Let's hope we are playing diplomacy really well :V

More importantly Muhallabids finally settled all of their wars and start to recover their manpower. Which is right on time table we want to operate. Lacking Greek help might sting a little but I believe we will be able to deal with Muhallabids once we employ Mercenaries.

Year 1141
======================

Emperor's brother somehow managed to not lose his war so far. Mostly because he provoked a 3 way war as nomads declared war on Jain Tocharians on silkroad thus everytime they go there, warriors of Cumania take over disputed lands and once their mounted army returns they wisely retreat. That said Barsid forces melted down to 5.500 men, which is a lot less scary that 8.000 they had previously. With that near number parity Genius vassal king might pull it off. Except it possibly won't happen. Tocharians are winning their war and once it's over I don't think much hope will remain. So far our Komi brethren have not won single open field battle.

Ok that's secures additional source of high stewardship characters from events across world Glad it worked as I thought it will.

Finally in April our strategy starts working - Patriarch converts one of invited Jews into Orthodoxy . Thus making them available to take over various duties. Having nothing to do at the moment I start arranging marriages among our barons for future successions. Then in second half of year we start developing some sickness symptoms:
RYkUDl4.jpeg

Well that could lower our life expectancy. Remember we also have "Stressed".

Takes several more weeks but it turns out to be pneumonia after all. Hmm that's our way out but we could live little longer to just start that whole war and then switch to high Martial character. Decided on tested treatment for Kezhedey but once again the game doesn't go as I would like. We get bad treatment leaving us at -5 health modifier even though it is only mild sickness. With that I don't expect Kezhedey to live much longer but hey - we are here for the ride with this character ;D. Can't do anything at this point.
7e2gtH3.jpeg

Well that came abruptly, didn't it?

Thus ends the problematic and confused reign of Kezhedey. Not much that I have to tell about it - we tried to do the best of what we could. Now we play who we wanted - 23 years old Meltsayka. Genius that needs serious work to be worthy of that title. First of all total chaos happens. Game nukes my chinese bureacrats as well as all jewish characters we just bought =.=... Gold is one thing, not many such characters currently existing is another. They didn't get transfered - they were straight up removed via death. We inherited Meltsayka ill fated holy war but also lost our holdings in Anatolia and... Syria. Which is a suprise as I had naval connection (all across Europe but hey Muhallabids already pioneered naval route to Nenetsia in last part of this AAR). We march troops back to disband them (vassals are quite pissed off with how long our now Emperor was using them). Once Barsid Khagan accepts white peace we plead for, we can revassalise Qazan. Game recalculates our income again, but now after experiencing it once I use that occassion to generate 5-6 female courtiers for just 90g a character. Once again we revert to around 2.500-2.600 yearly income. We are also over the demense limit (11/9) and 3 over the vassal limit, have no heir, almost empty council which is angry with us. Bigger mess than usual... Let's slowly clean this up.

Year 1142
======================

After some initial moves we start new year with visit to Fountain of Youth. Definetely want to have extra years as that character to stabilize the realm after brief reign of emperor Kezhedey. Then we move around some vassals to get under the vassal limit - no wonder AI did it cause our vassal limit even without wife is somehow lower that it was for Kezhedey. Turns out our wife that was tutored by Emperor Vokan is also pregnant. Well that's good. That was one of reasons for arranging that match and well time is ticking. We also commit (we are kind of forced to) to bestow kingdom of Nenetsia title to our kin in Vladimir duchy. It isn't perfect and we can't transfer all vassal that we want. Somehow double duchy of Veliky-Ustug remains in hands of single character despite it being on it's road to be divided some time ago, making split impossible. Funny enough even though council is discontent we can and do pass another law change. We order another Scholar-Bureacrat from our Chinese friends but we will have to wait for Master-Engineer due to cooldown on asking for "chinese stuff" a full year. Another fun fuct - currently the heir to our Empire is Eastern Roman Empire heir :3". Let's hope they don't get funny ideas.

Ehh this is so annoying that our carefully shaped setup got previously (60-70 years ago) rocked due to AI and succession. Also another step towards Imperial Bureaucracy

After repelling nomads in Burtasy county troops from there race towards Teleuch as one of Byzantine vassals already starts war to claim it. If he takes it we can say goodbye to that county as staging point and once again have to acquire new claim, wage another war etc. Funny how it turned out when I remember commenting that someone generating CB on it is a good thing xD. After giving Nenetsia away our income also plummets down to just +2.052 yearly. We are over the demense limit (10/9) but still. That's concerning. We also hold 4 duchies (thanks AI for generating more!) so we are somewhat hated. It will take some time to rectify that and for now new in Emperor's shoes Meltsayka we don't have much wiggle room.

By June daughter is born - Vergava Permyakid. She is sickly but is first Permyakid dynasty member to trace her ancestry to 4 different bloodlines (including all Orthodox Saints bloodlines). She is treated by Court Physician which ends in success but it doesn't remove her sickly trait alltogether. Also it seems we might be too late as Cilician Duke is already besieging Teleuch. Even if we arrive there we will just help his siege. Damn him!

In August it turns out we are hostile towards him, so we try our hand by throwing whatever force we managed to move there - we lack heavier troops but let's inflict as much damage as possible to delay them taking over Teleuch and ending the war. As Teleuch is single county realm it is really prone to getting instantly conquered. I raise our levies to the anger of my vassals and we march on.

Eh unlucky Generic skirmish (25%) meant we definetely lose. Bad Luck persists...
As we get chased off, Pope after waiting 9 years finally calls in for Crusade. Small amount of terrain is targeted this time (remnants of heretic France Theocracy level Kingdom) yet it stings as we won't be able to participate and well there is a lot of cash to be gained this way with now western Europe under Holy Roman Empire. I love decades when nothing happens and years when decades happen. Somehow to my suprise our sacrificial troops in Teluch win! We start besieging enemy capital and we might not even need reinforcements. I underestimated how well Light Infantry and Light Cavalry fights and our commander mettle. We take those wins!
UvenUsC.jpeg

Team Pope cleans up western Frankia from Waldensians. Not much but if it help Catholics built their strenght to tackle Iberia or British Isles then I'm not complaining.
I dismiss our vassals levies, so they might continue to lose negative opinion for having them raised for too long (-14 on bunch of Siberian dukes). By October Teluch castle is ours, thanks to assigning 17 martial siege expert. Out of note is that our Orthodox Norse vassal in Anatolia that went independent is now warred on by some bigger Eastern Roman Empire vassal trying to vassalise her. That works for me as Orthodox Norse characters in Byzantine empire aren't the worst thing. They might join the ranks of Varangian guard so there is that and I don't think there are many sources for that at the moment due to range .

In such moment we have to end this part, having taken over half of Teluch holdings in dramatic race against time (and Greeks) as we scavenge what we can from our previous longterm strategy. What a crazy start to reign of new Permo-Siberian emperor.

P.S 1: Forum servers kept erroring and thus seemed like post got cut and copied in various places over and over. Took me over 10 minutes to fix it as servers kept refusing saving the changes. I hope now everything is ok
P.S 2: Probably tommorrow for at least a week renovation of one room in my flat begins thus I probably will post another part later than week-two.

What a mad bad world. Siberia and China controll vast amounts of the map, the religions are all over the place, and there doesn't actually appear to be any major powers in Europe (in comparison to the eastern empires).

I wonder how this translates to EUIV, which buffs the west quite a bit...

Well while our Komi'mpany is creating something in Siberia, AI Greeks are doing there own "Restore Roman Empire run" (with our help) and west has Holy Roman Empire that is swallowing France and northern Italy so I don't think there is lack of western powers. We also have muslim Spain and Cathar-Slavic England ruled by Polish descendants. Especially HRE that IRC has more troops that ERE and would outweight Tibet empire.

Sadly as it is on GeforceNow streaming platform I don't have ability to share the savefile. Only option would be to try playing it myself but I'm green when it comes to Eu4 (played Eu1 and Eu2 two years ago quite much and thanks to them I entered AAR forums as I loved some guide/playthrough AAR teaching me some tricks) so I definetely won't be able to keep playing as well. Currently learning Victoria 3 after played extensively Victoria2 for the first time year ago :).

Ah yes, forgot about the HRE. That means that even Europe has a big empire taking over.

If the byzantine and Russian empires combine, that would be pretty interesting.

There might be first trans-continental war between Byzzies + Us vs Chinese and their Tributaries (Tibet, Uyghurs and Persians). Both Eastern Roman Empire and Permo-Siberian Empire are Orthodox and have half lands in Europe and half in Asia. For them the divider is Bosphorus strait, for us Ural mountans. I hope it doesn't come to this as we don't get anything beside keeping our riches to ourself x] That said I wouldn't want to - we don't have claim on ERE. But you made me realize potential future screw up. If I release Nenetsia with Vladimir our Greek Allies might take over it creating distant colony east of Finland with no land connecton :D"

I too forgot some things but just hoped into game to check and take some screens:

From what can you see HRE is in 3 way civil war for throne between various von Kufstein family members (hailing from Crusader King we helped to acquire Italy few hundred years ago). So they are similar holding size to Eastern Roman Empire but slightly less troops atm (they were improving a lot across last decades). Was wrong about Spain - it isn't in muslim hands (green color realm and well name of their realm) - it is Cathar Andalusian Sultanate. Also didn't spot recent developments on British Isles - Cathar Anglo Saxons and Waldensian Welsh in Scotland expelled Slavic Poles while Ireland turrned Catholic. Both Poland and Bohemia have reformed Germanic kings (don't ask). Lithuania is at least Lithuanian and Romuvan. Croatia is quite nice German Crusader kingdom in hands of the same dynasty that holds HRE. This will do for now - rest in report after next part.

What is Bayda and how do they rock 80k troop with less than 10 holdings? Also, Tagant and Brittany large troops with little holdings! Thanks
But they of course are rebels :D. We are playing with "Powerful Rebels (x6)" and it seems they scale with time. So nothng short of empire can completely stop them :D
