I wonder where the war chest goes if the Crusade is invalidated. Does the Pope keep the money? Does the money appear out of thin air when the Crusade succeeds? (i.e. it just doesn't exist)
I have no idea. Heard that most likely Pope throws it all into the sea to celebrate conversion of target. Which wouldn't be the first case of same wealth destruction in PDX game (Victoria 2 also allowed for deletion of cash from circulation). There are also some posts suggesting some bug in which, Pope retains most of the cash and rest of it ends in Recipient hands. Which would be better overall, as losing all that money just weakens Catholicism. Now that I think about it I want to check if anyone doesn't have too much cash (Pope himself probably couldn't spend it so much). Still as pointed in post the moment crusade started almost 1/3 of Crusade money mysteriously vanished on day 1. Didn't went back to Pope and wasn't reserved for Recipient as the breakthrough didn't add up for that scenario.

Yea checked and pope has only 7.550 gold coins (and no holdings). Also using ledger no Catholic character has anywhere close to money that were in Chest (~56.000). It is 8 years later but I think AI wouldn't be able to so quickly use so much cash.

It's somewhat funny topic for me as I was looking trough old topics and many people when 'Holy Fury' dropped were complaining at ridiculous amounts of money. Which is less that you can get from direct barony-vassal setup (as this AAR shows) and could be doing since CK2 release. Fully developing single holding costs around 10.000 gold coins. Counties can have up to 7 of them. Even bigger kingdoms can cost around milion gold coins to fully develop. Not even mentioning Hospitals or Great Works.

There were also urban legends about those Crusade money coming from nowhere - it initially came from Pope who then demanded contributions (or he excommunicates and this way another Sultana of Catholic Egypt got branded in this AAR current timeline). It really isn't that weird that religion with over 400 counties can roughly contribute directly to Crusade around 70.000-80.000 coins every 30 years, when my optimized Cities are paying me the same every 30 years in my 90 counties empire (and they pay only 50% of their income).

This also made me think - Mercenaries are great economic wise. All the money you pay them stays in game and can be inherited later (as opposed to levy/retinue upkeep that just gets deleted from game). Checked ledger and some richest Mercenary Captains have over 120.000 gold in this playthrough. So transforming your own Mercenary Band not only works as force multiplier but allows to save a lot over full playthrough.

Part LXI (1268-1275)

Year 1268
======================

Slow Fever epidemy continues and in January supply issues in Perm are noticed. Combination of severe winter (-3 supply) and slow fever (-5 supply) means that our 7-8 supply arctic provinces sport ability to sustain only 1.000 troops on them. Forcing our 4.500 strong retinue force to move south. Sadly we don't make it in time, thus 1.600 members of our standing army get obliterated. At least by last week of January, our Russian pagan vassal of vassal in Novgorod wins against his overlord. This gives me ability to easily revoke him. Opt to wait though - maybe he replaces those Russian Orthodox vassals under him with more Suomenusko friends (making our life so much easier). There might be a problem with that, as he is 65 old Leper that already got "Mystically Altered" and is bound to be succeeded by some Orthodox character.

With coming of February just what I was dreading above - happens and opportunity slips because I tarried. Was mostly anxious to do this with our ongoing extraction from Vladimir Duke, as at least in my mind it increased the odds of that Novgorodian vassal rising in arms too. Slow Fever also claims many courtiers making it difficult to notice, if any of my 30 kid courtiers are out of guardians (and I'm too lazy to check it every few days/weeks). Soon we lose our Genius spymaster (Alberto) to sickness as well. Lucky so far we didn't lose any city-vassal (altough some of their courts are getting culled pretty badly).
E69UmNs.jpeg

As you can see we have some serious plague problem :V...

Sieges in Vladimir progress slowly (up to 67% of warscore). In meantime we lose our 55 years old Mayor of Fedorki (newest town), who is supplanted by some randomly generated lowborn - his 2 highborn children are suffering from local epidemy, so finger crossed at least one of them makes it through so we can fix it in around 10 years. Didn't inform you previously but I picked ambition "Make a Friend" and are working through 'swaying' on our son&heir Prince Zarny. Soon we invite him to festival, which offers us choice between losing Humble or getting Honest. We are at 7 out of 6 traits soft limit so losing humble is nice. On other hand with our old Emperor being over the vassal limit, getting +3 diplomacy is juicy. So for Honest we go! Don't think it increased our limit, as we still are at 60/59 max vassals.

We steadily make progress against vassal rebelion towards 91%, before at start of July we suffer another local rebelion in Moskva.
rfEEWid.jpeg

Local ruler angered population (+10% revolt risk monthly) and here we are.

We have some small units closeby and besieging. Won't be enough. Luckily in Burtasy over 10.000 vassal levies gathered. We assign most of our trained commanders (Italian Salvatore + Scottish Magnus and Nydog) and we start marching onto rebel scum. Week later we conclude Vladimirian extraction (we get county of Osha in Sibir back) just as we consolidate all the troops near rebelion into 11.000 strong force. By the time force from Burtasy arrives we will be more than well positioned to deal with that uprising. We also sent new Duke of Ryazan a demand to give us his vassal (Count of Hlynov) that holds 2 counties within kingdoms of Perm and Volga-Bulgaria. Soon he relents, thus we fixed some border gore. While not perfect yet (cause our new subject has 2 holdings) it's works for the goal of seceding Nenetsia-Rus. More importantly now that that vassal war is done, we can scheme again. I can either kill new Duke of Novgorod to make another pagan character inherit or start fixing towns. Like the first option better so here we go for that 700% plot power. Bonus points for me, as that new Duke picked "Scheming" character focus so he will become problem in the future if left unatended. Soon we get information, that our co-conspirators are already on the move.

Throughout the August our forces make it in the vicinity of Moskva's rebelion armies. We got extra character from going on one of many hunting trips, that happen in the background. New commander Dergun is thus blessed with Hunter trait and Brave, which due to him having 19 Martial translates into +39% Pursuit and +19.5% Morale Defence. He is also Skilled Tactician so any upgrade might further boost those by another +3 Martial. We manouver around river to avoid penalties and soon all 23.000 troops in the region are collapsing onto 9.000 Muscovite rebels. Then we get an interesting war declaration
PQtLdKm.jpeg

Nice showing of both cultral tactics. Also quite bizairre that 2 county Duke decided to push some claim on ous :O

Battle starts nicely and perhaps it goes even too well. As we are murdering them in skirmish. The other 16.000 rebel troops take the bait and start marching to reinforce their side. We crush those 9.000 rather decisively with our almost 24.000 strong force. Just before the rest of uprisers arrive we basically clean up the battiefield and what's worse (for enemy) they go straight into melee with their light troops. We get both Pike-Column on Salvatore (+120% Heavy Infantry Attack, +300% Pikemen Attack, +60% Heavy Cavalry Attack) and Schiltron Formation on Nydog (+120% Light Infantry Defence, +240% Heavy Infantry Defence, +240% Pikemen Attack, +360% Pikemen Defence, -40% Light Cavalry/Heavy Cavalry/Horse Archers Defence, +60% Archer Attack) and for day exchange around 130 casualties on our side for over 1700 casualties on other side.

Quite a few things happen in the background. First we get declaration of war from Red Ruthenia. Before you ask yourself what kind of new emerging world power that realm is - it isn't. They are surrounded by Byzantines and brag about having whole 2 counties with slightly over 1.000 levies to their name. They will never win. Those fools just miscalculated badly. Still it is an annoyance because, we are still at war - meaning some options that I really would love to use right now are not available. Thanks to Hermetics we got new friend, which fullfiled our ambition, giving another +1 to diplomacy attribute (pushing us to 60 vassal limit). Yet as I revoked Novgorod title we are now at 65/60 vassals incuring some 13% of penalty to taxes from them. Still can't start excommunicating those Russians there, as different vassal holds title of Novgorod kingdom. Having no other choice we decide to revoke it to start excommunicating (earning us -30 opinion from all vassals for 5 years) on top of another -40 for destroying Duchy title we just acquired but only on those vassals we want to replace soon anyway (otherwise we would get -10 opinion on every vassal for 3rd ducal title). Definetely want to speed things up, as Emperor Rayda starts developing symptoms. Most likely slow fever.

As Winter begins (another severe case) few more courtiers here and there die (including Rayda's daughter in-law, that died due to complications related to Gout at 30). Seems we will have another marriage relatively quick. Symptoms turn as expected into - Slow Fever and we let our court Physician apply standard procedure. Think it will be enough as we are still having all those +health bonuses from artifacts, modifiers and can get even more (we still haven't trained our dog).

Year 1269
======================

With new year our steward counts up to over 83.300 coins in imperial treasury and our Nenetsian King by declaring war for Ingria (de jure Rus land) triggers his own vassals rebelion. We still are moving troops into Red Ruthenia to deal with that absurd attack, while rest of troops which beaten the rebels lately move towards Novgorod. To begin extractions! Right now I'm determined to assault those holdings to speed things up. The quicker we replace whole of Novgorod with Komi characters, the sooner we can reduce number of vassals.

We push into Novgorod despite somewhat annoying attrition (well to be honest those are not our troops anyway so we don't care). We trigger first extraction and wait for second from our Patriarch in February. To my suprise I spot that we broke the game again -> due to our Catholic conversion sheningans, somehow our Patriarch still despises us for enforcing "Free Investiture". While we don't have that law visible in corresponding menu nor does it work with Orthodoxy. Seems we will have to change it back, when Zarny will flirt with Pope during next Crusading time.

Takes up to March to eliminate first of many Russian rulers within Novgorod and Rus. County of Borovichi goes to some freshly turned adult distant Permyakid kin with 15 Stewardship and a dream. We add to this 30gold coins (to avoid incuring province negative modifiers from being bankrupt) and the title. Our siege of Red Ruthenia also begins, after their army roaming our western empire got tangled with Nenetsian rebels. Talk about good development when both problematic forces decided to whittle each other down due to simply being hostile to each other. Amazing ^o^~!

Spring time is spent on checking how education is going in court and some marriages between fresh adult courtiers. We finally get to extract another Novgorodian count in June. While our forces in Red Ruthenia are about to take over top holdings there. Sadly Slow Fever still persists and some more of our Councillors refuse to work. At least our plotters still are active and are about to fix 1 of 4 mayors. Empress Zahra becomes pregnant again at 46 years of age. Not gonna lie - wasn't expecting that.

That "Free Investiture" bug really hurts us, as it exactly prevents us at (-30 opinion) from getting another excommunication (we are at -29 from getting it). With first Red Ruthenian castles taken, that war increases up to 39%. Then we get this unexcepted proposal.
if8NlhJ.jpeg

Why would I pay that when we have 1700% plot power...

While awaiting further excommunications, we watch as Red Ruthenia slowly falls. Nothing exciting. Well except that in September they called 15 years old Queen Aldona of Poland into battle. It won't change much as their troops aren't enough to relieve any of besieged counties, much less change the course of conflict. Nenetsian rebels lost so we started feeding Nenetsian vassal-king more of our newly appointed rulers in Novgorod to minimize nasty 40% tax penalty from being over the vassal limit. After handing 2 re-adjusted counties to future independent Komi Emperor, it improved from -40% to just -20% tax penalty. Sadly noticed that Kudymkar went down to "Minor Depopulation" despite having level 3 hospital (which grants 'Medium Depopulation protection').
XuYK8mW.jpeg

This might come in handy, as our heir so far has only 2 daughters (one of which is at least Quick).

Given opportunity we push through some legislation. Why not Ducal Viceroyalties you ask? We definetely could. Don't think we should - it would shave off another 5 max vassals from our limit. This will have to wait for Prince Zarny reign. Still it's not so bad. Allowing female commanders opens up easier recruitment for those roles and puts us step closer towards Agnatic-Cognatic or fully Cognatic inheritance (to finally start making use of our Genius daughters). We probably won't live for another law change so this will have to do for now. Given some free time I look how our Aztec newcomers are doing and it seems they took kingdom of Germany for themself and now are targetting Hispanic rebels for whole of Seville for themself. Not bad. they also did slightly more implanting of their own culture/religion rulers in conquered lands. They still have over 73.000 troops but less than 20.000 of them are from event spawn. Soon we also heal from Slow Fever!
HVIGzy4.jpeg

Last hurrah before, natural causes took our "Great" Emperor.

That's all when it comes to Emperor Rayda. His reign lasted 39 years and despite not everything going as planned, he did quite well. Now onto his descendant Prince Zarny we go. Somehow it seems no vassal decided to go independent. That's quite lucky. We also preserved all of our Commanders, Jews and seems most of our breeding program also survived. We have to appoint our council again, but we have little trouble with that. When it comes to our new Emperor himself... well. We have quite nice traits (Crusader, Erudite, Gregarious, Diligent, Brave and Patient), lousy education (lvl 2 stewardship) yet thanks to artifacts we get 17/18/19/11/18 attributes (Diplomacy, Martial, Stewardship, Intrigue and Learning). Decided to go with 3x Fishing with Ankle + Permyakid Cookbook (+1 Stewardship) instead of Komi Language IV (+1 Diplomacy). Emperor Zarny turns out to be... secretly Taoist but not part of any Secret society. We join Hermetics at once (to start chances at building Laboratory for those province modifiers). Which reminds me about Trade Route in Tynea, that still is there! We will see what happens on expiration date - 9th of December. Time to pick Business focus. We want to start working towards Architect lifestyle. Yet we have quite a few problems despite that - 12/8 demense limit and 64/55 vassal limit. Yikes!

=================================================================
Emperor Zarny MTTH (28 years old, 19 Stewardship, 20 Learning, Diligent)
=================================================================

New Holding Slot - 31,09 years
Province Modifier - 21,52 years

=================================================================

As you can see our Prosperity math got worse (not suprising as Rayda was perfectly maxed for it with all 10 improvments for chance of prosperity events). We are maxed on Stewardship, Learning but have only 1 out of 4 traits affecting it. Business focus should give us in the long run with little luck Education level 3 and then Architect improving MTTH from 7/10 bonuses collected to 9/10 bonuses. Last is sadly non-achievable (Genius/Quick or Smart). Still those improvments should knock off around 5 years of medium time to happen. We also need new wife and this is quite a problm - I want to wait 5 more years to marry ou Genius bastard niece - Tekay Kazakovo (from Emperor's sister Virtyava that was married off to Greeks). Our character is perfect tutor for her as she is Indolent (we have gregarious for intervention) and Fussy (we have both Patient and Diligent for choice intervention). So in 6 years she will become quite skilled (assuming she doesn't roll absolute garbage on her stewardship education). So it seems we have to eat those penalties for now.

There is another dilemma with ambition. Decided to go for 5 years of 'Seeing the Realm Prosper', as we still have that nasty Slow Fever going, but it should go away soon (it is going for more than 3 years already). Foolishly spent all 300 of my piety on some Holy Men fishing (for Genius character to marry to one of Italian girls in court), now I don't have enough for excommunications. It isn't huge deal with +15 piety per month yet will cost us 1 excommunication was possible right now. We will stop extracting for now, to accumulate possible revocations and then harvest them as Architect event chain fires (at least that's the plan).
iqKo5k6.jpeg

Ok maybe 6 years is little too much to be missing on close to half of our yearly income.

Levies for now are dismissed, single county in Novgorod is given away. Court is secluded (OOF for that -5 diplomacy but it's better than dying or losing our courtiers) and we finally can unpause. Changed my mind and I break that bethrothal with Niece for now to marry some Genius 46 years old cousin. Need those attributes from spouse badly as right now we are rocking -60% taxes from personal demense and probably the same from Vassals. We are still on some grace period I think but are down to +2.765 gold per year. We proceed with marriage and sadly got hermetic event revolving around ritual to protect from Satanist powers. Taking the best modifier that will last whole life costs us maximum number of piety (30), meaning we just added 2 more months before we can excommunicate. At least new Empress improves our demense limit from 11/8 to 11/10. Vassal limit improves by just +1 because both characters have -5 penalty to diplomacy from being secluded.

As our Court Physician asks what to do with all infected courtiers (mostly children) we ask him to continue treating them. We already got some nice result (some 16 stewardship young Italian ready to be used). Year ends without any popup regarding our Trade Route - cementing what we knew earlier - you can't stockpile those modifiers as they are lost after succession/change of capital. The game just stops giving you option to keep refreshing them.

Year 1270
======================

Year starts with suprise. Remember that last year previous Empress Zahra was pregnant? Well she gave birth to Prince Onika of Permo-Siberia on 1st of January. This new half-brother suprisingly works just fine as emergency heir to Empire title. It calms our vassals as well. Despite Emperor Rayda having 9 children only 3 of them were male, Prince Aymort died in childhood due to Camp Fever and Prince Kyldisin was mediocre thus was forced to become monk. We were in real danger of getting game-over as our heir is of different dynasty (child of our cousin from Permyakid branch married into Illyinsk).

Finally Slow Fever starts to vanish. Boy did we got bodied by it. Not only did we got -40% income in provinces (1/4 of all counties that make our economic core) but also we had to deal with losses of our tightly kept Mayors and penalty to diplomacy that further lowered vassal taxes. Not even mentioning prosperity losses :V... Also our grace period went by and our income got slashed down to +355 gold per year... Not to forget that our Council called in "sick leave" meaning that despite 100% Orthodoxy MA we are not working on our future personnel.

As we are not expecting wars anytime soon, decided to start construction of another pair of features in Great Works located in both Perm and Kudymkar. We still need that "Town is Born event" in Kudymkar:
eN9vPcC.jpeg

I could increase our supplies by 1 in both but whenever we get hit by Epidemy + Severe Winter we are still at minimum 1 supply so why bother :x. Instead I prefer to bolster our attributes and Levies to make capital more difficult to sack.

Being still retricted we start working on Novgorod again. Via killers. Realized I can quite quickly come into possession of Novgorod county itself, as long as I remove 2 adolescent characters. So by end of May we resolve 5th out of 6 Russian counts there. Sadly some problem occurs - our Nenetsian vassal created duchy again, thus last vassal there once again is outside our Patriarch area of influence. Will have to murder. Perhaps giving him those counties wasn't such a good idea after all.

Slow Fever persists and lingers. Lifts from half of Volga-Bulgaria yet the whole Perm duchy is still affected. Having nothing better to do I start looking for perfect gift to Chinese. After some searching I find one former Guru that will accept our invitation and voila:
DbVxnCk.jpeg

Most likely this is the best gift we offered China up to date (not counting Mjollnir). Will buy us both Scholar-Bureaucrat we take back now and Master-Engineer later.

Takes months to pass by, before Perm duchy finally stops being afflicted. We can finally open the gates but my vassal limit improves only a little (62/56). Still that's more gold for us (+2.393/year). Sadly Kolva (county north of capital) got minor depopulation :<... While we still have Tynea and Pilva on max Prosperity it starts getting little scary.

Worked a little on our court and bid adieu to 48 years old Jew that never got converted. Not interested in employing him now.

Year 1271
======================

Did some more breeding control and found our first homegrown 20 Stewardship Italian lowborn woman. What a find! This will help us fix some lowborn over the limit Mayor. Also invited 3 foreign lowborn courtiers with in-between 15 and 19 stewardship. This will help for now. As we finally lean to start once again fixing administrative mess.

January starts with another public project: bringing up the healthcare standard up to snuff. Thanks to once again having Scholar-Bureaucrat (this time Jurchen instead of Chinese) we have slightly cheaper construction, thus we can finally splurge on hospitals.
YTCDXgo.jpeg

We have to purchase it in 80 counties. To my suprises some counts already developed that hospital on their own. With that whole future Permo-Syberia will have at least 15% Disease protection and medium depopulation protection on top of +25% Research Spread Speed.

By Spring we do fix Mayor of Postol and our 18 Stewardship character takes over. We also set Mayor of Votkinsk and Mayor Balimer to be fixed upon assassinations. We also had other Mayor ready so that's 3 out of 5 remaining multi city setups ready to be repaired. Now we only have 3 bishops that need similar procedure. Why not 5 anymore? Cause in my infinite wisdom I decided to use "demand to convert", which did convert them from Catholic to Orthodox. Then for unknown reasons they lost all their bishropics (got usurped by new Orthodox characters). So yea we no longer have those penalties on them (but also have to re-assign with tyranny those 4 holdings).

Some time later we get our first female commander from Marshal. She is quite nice and that siege bonus will definetely come in handy. We tirelessly work on murdering our way through Permo-Siberian Bourgeoisie but during those spring-summer months one of our older (71) Mayors in Perm die. He is replaced by his noble son, still those towns could be in better hands. That's said we have not converted anyone skilled in quite some time (despite 90% yearly chance of it happening). We invite some more lowborn brides with high stewardship. All of newly arrived characters are demanded to convert at once to not dillute those Patriarch conversions chances.
3TQPGX3.jpeg

Now that we have Full Status of Women, this can happen.We had some highborn female Commanders as Tribals

We also are progressing through hermetic mission in observing the sky. Want more esoteric knowledge to get access to potions of Eudaimonia. Beside that Emperor Zarny can't stop trying to induce his future wife into being secretly Taoist. We won't make use of that. Sorry China! Instead, Emperor intervenes to make her Patient. Our Spymasters keep dying. Even despite latest one confering us +10% Plot Power and +6 prosperity points in capital, they can't manage envy of others in realm. Duke of Ryazan is also murdering his way through to retrieve counties belonging to his previous vassal, we just retracted. That's a problem as he won't agree to stopping his evil ways and if we fail arrest chance our prosperity ambition is lost. He already is set to inherit those 2 counties in Perm and Bolgharia with single assassination. Well probably my only way to salvage current situation is to discourage everyone from helping him monthly.

Hospitals finished upgrading by Summer and then towards end of year we finally managed to finish Hermetic mission. Killed only 2 more Mayors sadly. Followed with asking for Master Engineer from China. Observed that Aztec succesfully invaded England and now after Hispania reunited under new child queen, they invade Maghreb. Then I remind myself about feature in Komi University finishing in 2 months. For that we must remember to not be busy (special flag on character due to various activities we better not click currently).

Year 1272
======================

More court managment is done and we do continue pressing on. Catched that one of our Mayors in Udmurts/Burtasy/Yaik was stolen from us by one of our vassals. That's not very nice as he has over 320 yearly income but luckily as he is still our de jure vassal, we can retract him and so we do. No idea why it happened to be frank. This time it wasn't the case of some vassal being de jure overlord of more holdings in possession of that Mayor than us. We definetely didn't allow this to happen as there is some diligent "impressing vassals with vague promises" thanks to high diplomacy when they ask to transfer vassalage.

February passes in great anticipation as we finish construction of feature in Komi University (without any hiccup \o/). Now in around 30 days we should get another "Town is Born" event for extra (5th) holding slot in Kudymkar. Then on 10th of the same month our Jurchen Master-Engineer builds 'Fireworks Guild' in capital Perm. Not bad - +10% Levy size, +25% Garrison Size (unraised levies add to Garrison anyway) and +1 Military technology point income. Finally it also increases prosperity of the county by +6.
Q3OzGVO.jpeg

Ohh.. That unexpectedly quick prosperity event but I will take it.

Suprisingly game graces us with prosperity event providing 4th province modifier in Tynea. Well one less in the list to collect and we still wait on "Jewish Settlement" (our favourite +25% City Tax) or Mining modifier we haven't seen yet. Then we go onto shopping spree for some more Universities II (that previously escaped my attention or couldn't be built due to some other ongoing construction taking pllace). That's quickly eats up another 7.000 gold. Well together with another city we get to build thanks to Komi University event.

Two more Mayors die and we will need to replace them. One of them was our kin in Syzran - happily some 15 year old noble girl is present so within a year we will be able to fix it. So far we have not the greatest luck with assasination as we keep getting discovered and failing. We get finally some prosperity opportunity but in... Tura. We take those "Harvest Festivials" anyway for +15% local tax modifier. Where are my Business events to start lifestyle chain though :<?

In October we are standing on 4 over the demense limit vassal bishops (with one that either fixes itself out or we speed it up) and 3 mayors with the same situation (one we are working on, one we need to convert Jewish courtier and one that might need several assasinations). Conversion that we just got but it went towards our recently acquired high diplomacy shrewd Ashkenazi (24 diplomacy). Retrieved some 34 years old lowborn from one of the city court (she is quick) and decide to gamble on generating holy men with piety. Get lucky and in just 4 attempts (100 piety) we do get new Genius male character to marry off.

Before end of the year we once more miss to pause on 1st of November to go for 2 feast per year strat (I was tinkering with my notification and realized I should be doing something on 9th of November), fix another Mayor and advance in Hermetic Society to second rank. Now we have access to both Scrying and potion of Eudaimonia. Which is really neat :). Something must happened between our vassals too, as we lost one vassal in our vassal limit (thus increasing our income slightly).

Year 1273
======================

Well we somehow improved our income to +3411 per year with 44.600 in the bank. We are also seeing the light at the end of the tunnel thanks to another conversion (this time landing on high stewardship Israelite). Decided to order him to become monk (50 piety) but he went to our Brother in freshly conquered lands to the south (those we needed to extract books from Malyyids). So we have to pay him 40g for favour and invite him back. But now we have 22 Stewardship character to be used for some temple fixing soon'ish (in a year as See the realm prosper will time out). That gave me idea - I should create Italian Monastic tutor. This way we can mass culture convert without missing on those +attribute events and need to manually micromanage it in picking right tutors. So it's a win-win scenario. Was also thinking of getting more Monks into the court - while baron level vassals are bugged and don't set education for their heir we could still help them with those +stats on top of trying to breed quick/genius into their courts. But each not-court tutor can only have 2 selected wards so we will need a lot if them. Those are just some ideas anyway how to make the most of the life in CK2 vanilla.

Halfway through February city construction in Kudymkar finishes. We even have prepared young mayor (18) with decent Stewardship (15) married to 17 stewardship spouse. What's nice is that he is depressed thus soon he can be upgraded to 16 stewardship. And we got him from our ongoing breeding program in court :). Just look how nice it is shaping out:
1i4UYrD.jpeg

Losing access to some courts in Europe after seceding western parts of empire might be suprisingly more viable. Also what a discovery. That's good way of managing more cities without having to suffer negative penalties from revoking!

By April I made some discovery. As we eliminate another occupant of Mayor office in Karlutka, we get better replacement (5 vs 8 stewardship). That's makes me willing to try and resolve the rest with proper spouse arrangement. We try favour but takes us nowhere but... Out of curiosity I try marrying our great stat half-sister Princess Aileen (20 years, 20 Stewardship, Midas Touched, Diligent) and he would accept even without favour to be matrilineary married! Which means that we could use our female kin for fixing city vassal courts that devolved into lowborns! Previously I was wary of this, as it will increase their prestige thus making such future operations difficulty but maybe I was viewing it incorrectly? We can use it only when something goes south and we no longer have any highborns locally. This way that shared prestige won't matter. We also shouldn't be allowing such mistakes often. So not only do I deal with annoying spam from various suitors across Europe but also help myself manage our city network :D.

Problem manifets as soon after arriving to the city, our half-sister develops Great Pox (-20% fertility). We still have the general gist of ways to improve our bourgeoisie. Then we throw a Summer Fair. We are onto this strategy of pumping +18 prosperity points in our capital (prosperity level 1) each year. Given that we don't have anything else to do - why not?

Then we have some work to do with our mercenary band. Well previous Italian commander asked us for the third time to increase size of their company. We declined and replaced him, after yoinking few lowborn Italian commanders. But by mistake I appointed one of our better Italians there (who have Tibetan bloodline and married to Genius Komi wife). Soon we have to start working on acquiring them back (As after replacing they go to random foreign court). They took Genius child with them, that I really wanted. Still we got 2 more Italian characters out of it, so it's not bad. One of which will continue this mercenary band and generate + train more. Without us having to lift a finger.

Summer starts with information about some vassal faction finally becoming dangerous - 72% of top liege power. Given that we are suffering that -20% demense levies from being over the limit, it isn't suprising. What do they want? To increase council powers. Well the demand per se isn't bad but right now it would cascade us into being force to give up everything as we don't have currently the demense size for more. So if we agreed it would put us at -60% demense levies (from current -20%), making future actions enforcing faction demands easier for our dear vassals. Sooo... move our jobless spymaster onto new King of Nenetsia (some Schemer overthrew previous holder) to "Discourage them from joining factions". Maybe it does something to someone already in faction. Maybe not. We have some Nomads in Novgorod to bash!
xO9XHUK.jpeg

Regular training of commanders thanks to Nomads.

Nomadic incursion start becoming more and more rare. Partially due to our north-eastern Cumanian vassals expanding into Mongolia (will had to secede them later). Partially due to our garrisons improving and overall number of provinces with cultures responsible for raiding falling down. Well we win but don't improve anyone involved. It does nudges me to check what our Marshall is doing and he was still supressing revolts in Ryazan. So we order him back to organize army (hoping he improves some commanders). Followed by replacing our Genius Greek Chancellor with Orthodox Shrewd Ashkenazi. Why? Cause Ashkenazi has chance of generating us some diplomatic technology points. Rarely but still. He then is assigned to keep improving our relations with our bigger vassal in Nenetsia - maybe he will like us so much, that he leaves faction on his own. That would peel off most of their power.

By July we resolve faction problem in different way. With Assassination of faction leader - Duchess Slyuganka of Kazakh. Sadly we got revealed for our part in it and now her son Duke Sarin is considered to harbor a lot of negative emotions towards us. Can't kill him too, as that would push his lands into other vassal hands. Whoops! Soon this whole faction restarts. Doesn't seem to be prudent way of resolving this particular problem in hindsight.

We also notice that our Italian holder of Tibetan bloodline makes it on his own back to Perm. His wife inherited Duchy of Ob. Everything would be great, if not for a fact that they are married in such a way that their descendants will be Italian. Which can create revolt friction with their Komi subjects. So at some point we will have to retrieve them. We also have to start assasinating Duke of Vasyugan, well on his way to unite duchies of Yugra and Vasyugan in Siberia. Not a problem as his Permyakid wife will help us (Duchess of Yugra). He is also scheming so we can't let him live anyway. This is just a tragedy waiting to happen.

Some news that were happening in the background.

Due to waiting on not existing great hunt (got something wrong), I miss timing for organizing feast again in November... Then we have to repair some of our great works (I just pay as wasn't certain it won't backfire on me to choose 100g). Next got some event I never seen before (but we miss 20% chance on extra +1 learning) and then we get update on Aztecs. Well that's cool - but they managed to establish themself in Europe already. They are currently beating down Hispanic Empire for all their lands in Maghreb. They have 63.000 troops out of which only 6-7.000 are event related. Mesoamericans recently quickly squashed 53.000 strong Catholic Anglo-Saxon uprising in England without losing a beat. You will notice that we have new realm - Aquitaine in southern France. Their king Pons (which is remarkably Slow and Stubborn) liberated them from Byzantine rule and now has 56.000 troops to his name (out of which only 10.000 are sustainable by his holdings). Meaning that after some time, Aztecs will probably gobble him out too, uniting France for the first time in centuries. As after taking Maghreb (which is massively occupied due to non-existing Hispanic army not providing any warscore), Aztecs will have at least the same amount if not more of not-event troops that Aquitaine has now. Lastly Emperor Huetlatoani Tochtli 'the Dragon" despite being medioce ruler somehow survived so far and his oldest son&heir Prince Huecalpixqui Ozomatli of Picardie is turning out great so far - Conscientious (which turn into Diligent) and Indolent + Playful but with guardian that has both Gregarious and Proud traits (allowing great evolution of those less than stellar traits). Depending on which education type AI chooses later, he might out-do his father in competences.

Then as feast starts, we start getting intervention for our future wife and currently ward - Tekay Kazakovo. We get to choose intervention at 14.5 years of age and we pick to make her Diligent (to pair with Genius and Patient). Costs Emperor Zarny getting Stressed but soon we will remove it with Hermetics. Then we get to pick for Indolent evolution either Groomed or Gregarious. Choice is easy as we really want more Diplomacy rather than some attraction on more difficult to lose modifier. Between all of those our future Empress should have +15 opinion of Emperor Zarny due to having 2 identical traits, then we will have even more opportunities to deepen their relation due to sharing same education type (Stewardship). She looks promising and has already way more diplomacy that current Empress Kanyuva (14 vs 9) It will go down a little due to negative -1 from Education but her other stats might improve even more.

Year 1274
======================

Another year and thing finally should start picking up the administrative slack. We failed some assassinations and it is concerning that in last 3-4 years we got almost no Business events related to lifestyle event chains. Really want that trade expedition for 50% chance of improving stewardship education. We managed to save up 47.400 gold coins. We got another conversion last year but just in January noticed that we are all out of targets for our Permo-Syberian Patriarch. While Orthodoxy is still going strong (100% MA and some smaller Greek realm managed to take over Antioch giving our religion all Holy Sites) we can't waste those opportunities. So 2 more Ashkenazis are imported from Crusader France.

In February we deal with Siberian schemer (and get revealed but his young son doesn't seem to mind). We can finally move onto our last bad Mayor to kill (with replacement already ready to take over). Preemptively preventing problems that could arrise. We are also finally looking to possibly start working on Bishropics. Emperor's half-sister married into city of Karlutka also is pregnant (and her mild case (+1 health) of Great Pox (-2 health) got succesfully treated (+2 health)). This is great as no matter what the gender of her child will be, we can work with that. Mission accomplished!

Next month finally provides us with more proper enemy that arrives from Mongolia. Exactly 2.650 Uyghurs show up so our commanders finally will be able to test their mettle. Problem being they are parked on Mountain province. Huh. On the side note as funny as it sounds - Mongolia started Feudalizing itself with still not-existing technology (which was recorded few parts ago). Before our retinues from Saur can move, another 1.500 strong nomad host arrives province to the south-east. We also get vassal testimony against Duke of Kazakh (another schemer out of hobby as well as having some evil designs on duchy of Kazakh). We take it for arrest chance we might use after this year passes.

In May we finally get opportunity to start that Business thing going. We sell our land in Perm for 10 years of -50% Castle Tax in exchange for 150gold coins. It's barely profitable but more importantly we finally get "Aspiring Trader" modifier (+1 Stewardship). From now on Trade route event chain can happen. Also usually it takes the longest to get that first step, so I have my hopes up.
YtTDyJD.jpeg

Battle goes on for forever and there is no massive melee at any point. Still we win.

As we deal with one barbarians to the east, western barbarians have some more action across Atlantic ocean. They took Maghreb and suffered ill-fated vassal uprising of various catholics. Rebels have 26.000 troops and Aztec Emperor 57.000. Which means that he will re-arrange many of those counties with proper Aztec Nahua nobles after all. Oh wait. Aquitainne also pounces on them and Aztec problems begin. Weakness was spotted by Aztec neighbours.

We kind of meet with a wall of bricks, as those Uyghur's that are raiding our border keep to occupy Mountain provinces, thus I don't want to push into them on almost even forces. Maybe I should? After checking their commanders (which is easy as that Host has only 3 courtiers) it doesn't look too bad (only one has Patient for some extra but not extremal defence). Was thinking that they might end on just Generic Skirmish tactic (no bonuses), which could be doable but was wrong after checking. They probably would roll with Harass tactics dealing too much damage in skirmish. Then even if we would be (most likely) countering them in melee it would be too costly. Forget it!

During November as we prepare another feast (missed timing again >.>) we lose Mayor of Uva and are ready to start process of resolving this issue ASAP. Beside that we get really good for us event, as Emperor's oldest daughter - Princess Mazava wants to become a nun. Given how unremarkable she would be as ruler we would have to force her to it anyway, if we wanted to play as her younger sister. So this works just perfectly. Finally before month ends our restriction of waging no war ends :).
xzLEQ3h.jpeg

Ok those are 2 neat events. Have no idea whether that Aztec flavor does anything X_X.

In december we get option to induct Princess Tikshayka into Taoism. We don't do that. This marks her 12th birthday though. She developed interestingely - Quick, Curious, Haughty and Fussy. Reminded myself that Haughty can develop into Ambitious. We also found a perfect guardian for her - Ambitious, Diligent, Patient Courtier with his only attribute over 12 being intrigue. Why does the last part matter? Well because this makes his only choice Cynical trait at 14.5 years of age intervention. Which in turn will ensure Curious developing into Shrewd. If the events line up timing wise that is. If they don't - well we can always try and take over to grant her either Patient or Diligent (depends on what she will be missing). We still will have to change inheritance law for Tikshayka to become our heir but she seem like viable option :). In case we don't get any Genius sons.

Year 1275
======================

Year starts with the bang - rebelion on Manicheans in freshly conquered provinces of Mongolia:
QAv2ZxL.jpeg

That's one reason for which I don't care to keep expending our realm. This and vassal limit.

Well good thing that I left my retinues that were eyeing previous nomadic raiders exactly province next door (even though that 2.650 strong host left). We will deal with that at once. On the bad side - this will cancel our ongoing feast so RIP our extra prosperity from it = (. We also get assasination on Mayor on Uva to realize it was wasted. Our freshly put there administrator died on 16th of December last year due to his chest pains... He was only 16 and had 18 stewardship :O! C'mon game. Now we are waiting on some conversion cause we are all out of available nobles with high stewardship. Additionally decide to spent my luck to get another Genius Holy Men. This time it costs me 5 tries (125 piety) to generate one. Not bad! Also we luckily manage to finish the feast cause it was just few days away from end.

Battle of Tom goes really slowly. Takes up to April to conclude! Mostly because we spent almost all of that time in skirmish and no - enemies didn't reset the phase thanks to culture unique altaic tactic. We had some success earlier on both wings but still had to 3vs1 enemy center for over a month, before they finally comitted to melee and got slaughtered. At the very least our young Brice de Tynea developed "Defender" trait (+45% Defence in his case). Not weird given how this battle went but I think other traits might be better. Meanwhile we finished Watchtower Network in Perm itself (+10% levies), another uprising erupted in Pereyeslawl (13.000 troops) and our ward finished education (getting nice level 3 stewardship). Extra 200 piety from squashing that religious rebelion doesn't stink either.

So we utilize vassal troops to move and deal with that Pereyeslawl situation. Takes up to end of July to explain them and force them into retirement. We get tangled into another Hermetic summoning of Divine being and even despite sacrificing two remaining ingredients, it backfires badly (-3 stewardship). We just had enough to hold all 11 provinces without penalty Q.Q. In the meantime we excommunicate Duchess of Chernigov, as we retract some Komi vassals from under her. Then we continue suprisingly long so in the end only one vassal remains under her. We also tried joining some plot for one of our vassals to fabricate claim on her county in Snopa but it went nowhere. Finally when she rises up in rebelion, quite a few extra vassal join her. She has up to 24.000 troops overall. We have still over 65.000, which were raised pre-emptively. So that's a quite substantial early advantage. Just have to make sure we siege her quickly to avoid prosperity loss in Permo-Syberia proper.
09Vm77O.jpeg

We used both remaining ingredients (Iron and Copper) and for the first time it went so badly. We were really unlucky.

War starts with us instantly besieging Duchess of Chernigov capital, using our recently acquired female siege specialist (giving us over 20% siege progress every tick). Many chaotic battles across whole empire happens, as our levies try to reach few rallying points. We win in Vasyugan but lose in Yaik (suprisingly that allied rebel duchess managed to get over 3.000 troops). We also barely lose in Ryazan but beat some bigger armies in Bolgharia. Seperate army from Perm is sent to Snopa (in northern Nenetsia) to get other personal holding of our rebelious vassal (so we can get 100% warscore quickly). In between all the fighting we do get another conversion and manage to finally fix City of Uva with assassination. With that we will have to end this part for now. So far in around 3-4 months of fighting we did deplete rebel strenght by around 5.000 troops, while we didn't lose our manpower at all and pushed warscore by 16% in our favour. As always we do all this while Winter is Severe =3... We also have visitors from the steppes - 2 hosts around Saur (2.939 abd 3.635 strong each). So more fighting will have to follow.
SzjOwLX.jpeg

Catholic Komi Duke in Komi and big Duke in Vasyugan also rised up. This will prove useful for Architect event chain, if it happens relatively soon.

Also quite bizairre that 2 county Duke decided to push some claim on ous :O
There's an event where a relative can ask for you to press their claim, even if the war ends up immediately invalidated. The AI is also able to get it clearly.

Part LXII (1276-1283)

Part LXII (1276-1283)

Year 1276
======================

We start where we left off - in the raging civil war. Week into January we take over another holding inside rebelion's leader capital - putting us at 20% warscore. Our other siege crew is almost in place too to start working on rest of his holdings in Snopa. The war continuous to be messy. Some 1.000 of our levies get caught up while crossing Yaik Duchy and they get defeated. On other hand we win in Bolgharia and push further into Vasyugan duchy in Siberia. We also have 2 bigger nomadic hosts trying to make bank while we are busy - so our commanders are streched as thinly as possible. We do catch some 2.000+ rebels in Syrt with our 7.000 levies.
o7JRYw5.jpeg

nZFwTME.jpeg

Beating suprised rebels thanks to preparing before rebelion has occured. Then some overview of the the battles after happening south of our capital duchy.

We do lose Lysva Mayor but his replacement has 13 stewardship so just new high stewardship wife is assigned to join him in his office. After winning in skirmish that Syrt engagement even more fights happen. Soon we defend in Bilyar with 4.300 men against 2.000 rebels. What's better - we still have extra 1.500 reinforcements on route to join our side. Then in Syrt another 3.600 strong enemy army is charging blindly into our 10.000 single army. Due to all that fighting I miss the moment where our Cavalry commander with 28 Martial - Viryas develops 'Winter Soldier Commander trait". It gives him astonishing +120% Winter Combat and further +4 supply. Sadly noticed that moment after our 4.500 force in Vasyugan took 35% attrition damage.

By the April we defeat another small rebel army and also take over Snopa. Contrary to my belief taking all holdings of war leader doesn't give me 100% warscore. Probably due to him callying allies? Enemy leader also changed as Grand Princess Vasilisa 'the Fat' of Chernigov died due to Stress and Dysyntery (terribly treated) at rip old age of 39. Now her 14 year old son Feodor Permyakid continunes. His younger brother took half of his holdings making our life somewhat easier. Our Scottish Commander Brice de Tynea also upgraded his martial education to final level and got "Direct Leader" commander trait (to pair with his Defender). Fighting continues to break out in Bolgharia and we in additionally organize some extra 5.000 strong vassal contingent in Eastern part of realm. As two 10.000 loyalist armies are hunting for smaller rebel armies, our border guards engage in second difficult fight against nomads:
4eTVvip.jpeg

HYIcIPe.jpeg

We somehow deal with first army but second luckily has luckluster commander on enemy side. Still - really happy with final body counts.

Nomads are not too keen to charge all at once so instead every turn of tactic changes brings just one of their wings into melee, where they get countered with Pikes. It ends far better than expected as we are able to inflict horrible losses onto them, thus secure our borders from raiders. Meanwhile our fight against vassal rebels progresses nicely as we keep catching their smaller armies with our consolidates armies. By Summer Permo-Siberian Revolt goes from 16.000 troops to 14.500. Giving us 73% warscore. Might take a while longer as I don't want to ruin prosperity levels on rebel provinces within our designed empire so we have to take over holdings in elsewhere.

August presents to Emperor Zarny icon event. I'll gladly take that +1 Stewardship for less than 1.000 gold. Especially as we are currently at -4 from Hermetic society (not only failed Divine Summoning but also messed up Divination and got -1 from Upsetting Vision). Business focus soon reminds us about itself with "Minting event". I don't bother with getting extra 100 gold - we just pay normally. Sadly it misses success so our 'Aspiring Trader" modifier doesn't progress. King of Nenetsia dies and is succeeded by his kid, who instatly declares war for missing county in Kolguyev (island to the north). I'm interested how he gonna do it and if he has any boats to land on that last Nenetsian-Suomenusko county.

In November we get the biggest battle against our rebelling nobility in Sakmara, as they try to cross south of Ural mountains and move towards our demense:
QpdjlxY.jpeg

Finally our aristocracy consolidated enough for battle to matter more warscore wise. Sadly they are pretty badly outgunned in this fight.

As battles wages on our Mayor son-in law dies at 36 due to poor health (must have been invisible health value as he had no bad health trait visible). Meaning now we have city problem that we additionally can't fix, as for unknown reason new mayor is refusing to marry our half-sister to anyone we propose. Well will deal with this the same way we dealt with it previously - by inviting her back (hoping that "Great Pox" isn't enough of reason for our city bachelors to refuse her hand in the future). Then we end battle in Sakmara allowing us to enforce demands on rebel nobility. We also get another conversion before end of year, creating high stewardship character just as we need him. Thirteen vassals end up in our dungeons with valid reason for revoking their titles if we want. I'm so ready for Architect tower chain.

Year 1277
======================

Year started with upgrades of "Seer" modifier. Sadly we only manage it once, as destroying title doesn't count as losing it. Didn't think it through and just wasted 450 Hermetic currency. Well not good =3". We also run out of conversion targets so we bribe 2 more from foreign courts into joining us. Then more court managments occurs and by accident (forgot) I married off our future Empress wife to some Genius Holy Men we just generated. Oops. Also taking out our daughter from that Court didn't help as it meant we also took away her son, so now we need her to "produce" another offspring with her -5% fertility. On the bright side we don't have single city setup that needs fixing.

Get little stuck with post-war cleanup. We are over the limits (11/10 demense and 66/56 vassals). Soon my income drops to extreme +400g per year. Right now getting that Architect even chain would be perfect, as the whole cost would total more than 5.000 gold coins. Not sure how to proceed and as time passes our Duchess of Yaik perishes in Permo-Siberian dungeons. Meaning one less revocations without upsetting vassals. Got this plan of chain-assasinating those kids of dead Russian Duchess of Chernigov until it all goes into hands of Komi culture characters but some obstructions started distracting me.

First we get information about Adventurer starting preparing to invade us. It's some Dutch character in southern England. We bribe quite a few courtiers there and send our spymaster to reach over 160% plot power. The best we can do. We finish writing Theorem for Hermetic Society, appoint new Aprentice and soon finally make ourself, a Eudaimonia Potion to get rid of Stressed trait. We also elimiante mistake-husband of our Genius female future Empress. Decide to extract our excommunication in Turov (3 counties under Russian culture leaders). So our troops under Chichayka have something to do. Discovered that we also won't get annulment of our marriage nor excommunication cause Empress Kanyuva (53 y.o.) is very pious. Whoops! Having nothing better to do - we spend some of our technology points:
6SyABsE.jpeg

Another categories finished, Ducal Viceroyalties unlocked. Our longterm plan pays off, making our counties finally competetive with more pleasant areas of the globe.

We start falling behind military wise. Having mostly cities our tech income is imbalanced. That said out of the 3, Military is the most difficult to keep acquiring as only hospital structures give some passive income. On the bright side we reach max level when it comes to unlocking infrastructure and laws. With around 180 years still to diffuse this tech fully within Permo-Siberian empire.

We can pass the law change but it would put us even further behind on vassal limit. What's worse we are having some problems with factions due to all the penalties we are currently eating. So it will need to wait till we secede Nenetsia to free some vassal limit. Revoked county in Sibir from Duke of Vasyugan just in case and settled a new character there.

Assassinations fires once but ends in utter failure. Damn it. It could help us so much. Meanwhile single vassal army and retinues are extracting Turov. It goes slowly up to 45% before end of year.

Year 1278
======================

As year changes, we get a hold of artifact rumour. So I have to once again go and check, which of our current councillors would be the best at hunting it:
QMu8oDO.jpeg

Here we go again. This time quite early in the reign so we should be able to get it.

After some pondering I sent our Genius French Marshal - he has 23 Diplomacy, 24 Martial, 17 Stewardship, 6 Intrigue and 8 Learning on top of being Genius, Gregarious, Just, Charitable, Kind, Erudite. He has not bad Personal Combat Score (20) and he isn't doing anything extremely important right now. Searching for artifact does incur -5% National Tax though. Well let's see if this will be worth it.

By Spring started excommunicating small non-Komi rulers. It's arduous task - not worth much mention. Sadly soon our Marshal dies and we have to pick someone else (our Genius Spymaster) to take over artifact hunting. Bad luck persist as county where Adventurer is located gets epidemy, meaning all plots come there to a halt. After we got up to 180% plot power :/.

Across summer I do more digging in our court, as quite a few random characters joined on their own - whole duchy of Tamil Jain lowborns that we don't need + some older characters that arrived who knows when. Even after throwing them out we have around 70 characters in court. We do marry few personally tutored characters and the things are starting to look up.

As Autumn nears we have to re-do our Eudaimonia potion as previous one backfired. We also have to show exit to another 3.000 strong group of Nomads and our Commander - Dergun 'the Hunter' develops 'Lightfoot Leader' trait. Which is meh. Still we have almost all of home grown leaders leveled up on those fights. Only Salvatore and Nydog are missing some upgrades of their Martial education. Meanwhile our female siege specialist is doing the most of her expertise on Russian holdings.

Year 1279
======================

Another year and we are still suffering. Due to vassal revolt in Nenetsia (after they secured that Kolguyev after all!) we are going up to 70/56 vassal limit. Which is obviously bad. Since then we got rid of 2 Russian ruled counties and are onto another 2 right now. Bunch of kids just growed up so we have like 5 new Italian characters, that are quickly married in a way to produce even more Italian characters in the long run.

We manage to conclude one of extraction wars (despite realizing that our vassal has holding in... Estonia).

Before we hit May we get 2 City successions, one of which requires our intervention. Exactly few days later our Patriarch converts another Ashkenazi so we can start fixing Cucataw city again. Damn this - we recently were fiixng it and our latest Mayor sent there died due to flu before turning 40.
pLO0DiQ.jpeg

Dammit. Like I really don't want to bother with such small wars.

I don't have much of an reaction to incoming invasion. Not sure if AI will even move right now due to epidemy going on. So we can continue vassal extractions and once Dutch show up, we will react. It's somewhat annoying - the scenario in which he just sits back in England and does nothing.

Still overwhelmed by post civil war administrative chaos I slowly work out the ways out. One such example is realizing we can give out Kingdom of Vladimir to Nenetsian vassal-king as the whole area is already properly set up and it will take few vassals away from us.

So on such administrative work rest of year is spent, without invaders in sight.

Year 1280
======================

Time to reasumme playing after brief few days of break. First of all we check our court. I really think that our breeding project is coming together - out of 26 marriages in court, 16 are set up to produce Italian characters. Thus our Komi-Roman (almost; if this was CK3 we would create hybrid culture) human resources are multiplying. We also have 24 kids in the court and we are mostly phasing out the requirement to assimilate them, thus in due time their not bad quality already will improve further. Still think it is too early to start using them for city managment. But on that front we are looking quite nice as we are running out of possible Ashkenazi culture characters spawned by events by all rulers within diplomatic range. What a nice change of pace. Orthodoxy remains strong (Byzantines conquered Mecca&Medina!) despite suffering regency again so our Patriarch is converting like never before.
wwNKwyn.jpeg

Free Grace? Why not. Thank you. Might be crucial once we need to get another set of Master Engineer + Scholar-Bureaucrat

Then I check on my City-Setup. We are mostly ok - spotted 2 Mayors that might have some issues in near future so we arrange proper marriages to avoid future complications and start single assassination. We also have no spare characters at the moment, which is somewhat concerning. Due to recent wave of early deaths among Mayors we are streched quite thin. Invited 4 male and 6 female courtiers from foreign courts to have something to work with. One of invites backfires, while most of our previously converted Jews leave our court to cushion up 2 cities in northern Perm counties.

Beside that we are working on Chernigov extraction as our Patriarch throws another Excommunications (on Alan Count of Prilyuk). We still are at this amazing 400g per year. Some courtier informs our characters that he eats too much, so we decide to eat less. No negative modifiers though.

Time passes till February as we beat down Chernigov troops that just took over adjecent county and we get another bad news on artifact searching front - our Genius spymaster has died too. This makes 2 Geniuses lost on this search so far. I have an idea! We will make Empress Kanyuva the new Spymaster. She is Genius and has quite nice stats overall. If she dies then it resolves our problem with not being able to remarry. So either way it works! Some 2.100 nomadic raiders also show up in Saur on Silkroad. Time to let our Commanders polish their skills!

Chernigov war is resolved by May and we go towards Prilyuk next. After transfering that county under King of Nenetsia we go to just 5 vassal over the limit. Meaning we finally recover most of our income (from 400g to 3000g per year). Well that's nice. Empress Zarny also stops believing what divine being told him so we also lose -3 Stewardship penalty resolving our over the demense limit issue. You might wonder what is the status of that adventurer's invasion? Well so far there were no information but when I check on it in June we can pinpoint 2 commanders from that host chilling out in North Sea. So seems we have another one of those unexpected "attack through Arctic direction". So we start preparing our troops in better supplied areas to winter as our enemies get to experience the wonderful climate in this edge of world
Ku9vXx9.jpeg

Well they really try their best. I don't think they will like how low the temperature gets during winter in the lands they fight for. It's not too late to reconsider AI!

Meanwhile we beat 1.500 troops of Prilyuk count and start besieging, while looters in Saur evade us entirely. The advice on eating from courtier progresses but there are still no real gameplay change (which is good). We also send Empress and Spymaster into one Aztec county in the southern France that is currently experiencing Consumption epidemy. You get the idea ;)

With advent of Autumn we finish Prilyuk while few disease symptons finish off Mayor in Karlutka (which was second husband to our Half-Sister Aileen; she seems to be cursed). Still this time new Mayor doesn't have anything against letting some noble marry our sister in his court. So we managed to fix this city pack after it slipped into lowborns. Dutch started besieging county of Indiga in North-Eastern Nenetsia but it will take them time (6% every 12 days). Lucky bastards get mild winter though :/... Month later it turns normal and then severe. Still they don't suffer more than 5% attrition so my hope melts like snow that I was expecting.

Year 1281
======================

As we enter another year I check on my Bodpa Niece. Turns out she didn't develop nicely so we only can get around 290 Chinese Grace for her. IMO not worth using the timer on so little - instead we generate Genius Holy man and marry her matrilineary to provide more future gifts for Jurchen Emperor of Qi. Dutch troops sadly don't want to melt away but we at least get good siege event (for us and bad for them) so they go down to almost exactly 15.000 troops. Time to start moving our guys there. Lucky we have Winter Commander with us so this should be less painful. We also manage to import 2 new Jews.

Sadly by March Indiga county falls to agressors as our other force finish replacing vassal in Slutsk. We only need Kiev to have whole southern Empire of Rus replaced and ready to be handed over. Excommunication on her won't happen anytime soon cause she is pious woman and our Patriarch refuses to curse her. And then Chinese emperor dies and is replaced by someone that doesn't care about cultures but concubines instead. Given that we married our niece to Genius this might be beneficial in 20 some years.

Life goes on despite hostile army within Empire borders. Business gives back in rather unlucky county and we suffer some minority uprising.

We get another Business event. It isn't bad but it is less beneficial that all trade route rewards. Won't complain for longer as with May we get Alan uprising in Prilyuk. Turns out our Genius local count personally appointed there managed to piss locals off in record time. That's somewhat disturbing as we are just moving north with our levies. So we exactly as far from them as we are from Dutch invaders. We can't also rely on vassal-king Pakstyan of Nenetsia, as he is still busy winning his own civil war. We manage to excommunicate another Russian single county ruler further north and begin the known dance of 'imprisoning then releasing till he rebels, so we can revoke his title after winning the war'.

So we leave Alan rabble for now, instead focusing on mapping out the best route to reach Dutch invaders. Takes us a while to reach them. Meanwhile peasant rebels in the south assault local castle suffering heavy losses. Did not expect that. They drop to 9.000 troops! Which makes them much more managable. More problems occur though as my another targeted Russian count calls for aid from Duke of Ryazan. So now probably we won't just enforce demands by fully occupying his single county.

In August our Master Engineer constructs Paper Mill in Perm itself. While +50% Technology Spread Rate and +1 Economy Technology Point income are irrelevent at this point I will take that +10% local tax modifier for decade. We still have Advanced Wind Mill from Invention event chain (+20% Local Tax modifier till 1362) and Fireworks Guilds (+10% Levy Size, +25% Garrison Size and +1 Mil Tech points income till 1292). So Perm county is looking good.

As month passes, our Nenetsian vassal finally wins his civil upheaval. Now he could tackle those Alan rebels as he has as many troops as them. Our personal levies also make it towards Dutch army just as another winter begins in October. So we can use Winter Commander again to avoid attrition on 18.000 strong force at our disposal. Soon the battle begins:
4EHmrqR.jpeg

Our right wing gets countered by their left and our center counters their center. Enemy also has quite lackluster commanders.

The battle start quite well. Due to all the countering we are exchanging 47 casualties a day for 115 enemy heads. By the time tactics change, enemy wing that was countering our wing is routed and we prolong skirmish (thus shrewdly avoiding Narrow Flank) to soon collapse all 3 army segments on invaders remaining center. Battle thus never enters melee. Due to that victory we can enforce white peace and gladly do. We only lose on 100 prestige we could get more and everything else seem to be the same. No sense waiting (and paying our levies 1.200 gold/year) or losing personal levies to attrition.

War ends on 9th of December. After which it is in our legal right to just execute Dutch invader. Funnily enough we roll "Throw to the (Polar) Bear" execution. So finally we can present them some of our Siberian flavour! Thanks to this we can simply disband levies and avoid any further attrition to exit inhospitable northern Nenetsia.

Year 1282
======================

We start year with revassalizing some single county in Novosil, which for unknown reason went independent. We also rise our levies to meet up in Burtasy and deal with that whole peasant rebelion. Our extraction achieved 60% warscore to date, while imperial agents after chain of failures in killing some Mayor are getting to work our mojo on that Russian countess of Kiev.

We get another occasion to summon divine being and not learning on my past mistakes we do commit to it our single ingredient (Yarrow). Doesn't turn so bad in the end - just -1 to diplomacy. Could be worse... No idea why this Emperor has so bad luck with Theurgy. At the very least 'more mortal component' of Hermetic society gives us highly desired quest - construction of laboratory. It's important as it will make us eligible for "Invention" event chain. It has set cost at around 200-300g for best options so it's no brainer to delve into it.

With snow melting, first 6.000+ strong Imperial force is marching south to engage Alan peasantry. As they leave Burtasy it seems our Nenetsian vassal beat us to it and engaged rebels himself with 5.800 troops. While red army has only 7.000 lightly armed men. We also do force Count of Tula to rebel (cause he is guilty of holding county in both Nenetsia and Perm). Then we get to see start of "Eternal Life" event chain and the game crashes on me. So we get back to January of the same year x]...

So as I replay initial months of this year - turns out despite 'summoning of divine being' event chain already being in action the roll was different this time. Interesting. So the rolls aren't done at the start. Instead of failure we got critical success, meaning we now enjoy +3 Diplomacy (pushing our vassal limit to 58/57). This time we don't get immortality event chain but instead 13.000 more Alan rebels to defeat.
IwY9rDb.jpeg

Perhaps due to all that Theurgy we are now experimenting Parallel worlds :D" Also this Alan reinforcement reduces revolt risk by 100% for several years.

So we have to halt our imperial troops to wait and gang up with rest of levies (they are right behind so it isn't huge delay until we have around 14.000 strong army). Weeks pass and we manage to conclude previous extraction. We also finally get both trade expedition going as well as Empress Kanyuva sick (Consumption). Decided to not disable alarms about sickness in family so she sadly got good treatment. Still we can soon get rid of our Court Physician and then react in crisis if needed. Looked through my court and currently there aren't many sick courtiers in need of health assistance, so we should be able to endure.

Time moves to August as our Nenetsian vassal deals with half of Alan rebels then eludes retribution by jut disbanding his troops :) Well played AI! We needed this as that rebelion reached -92% warscore, so some breathing room was needed. Laboratory construction finishes granting us the highest possible level of that modifier and enough society currency to rank up. Opted not to do it yet. We could do some Scrying after those current wars. When it comes to foreign visit... We traveled to county directly east of our borders x] Some Slavic Russian count. Wonder what kind of exotic goods he has to offer.

By September Emperor Zarny get's new nickname - 'the Bold'. Well, well, well - game definetely is treating us nicely with nicknames. Soon we also finish our Trade event and it ends with all kinds of rewards - friend, education upgrade and regular trade route modifier.
XlqLM6Y.jpeg

Well that was fruitful business venture. Also another step towards becoming Architect.

All those modifiers now in Perm push all cities there to have total of +140% income from county bonuses. Meaning single city there are providing between 150g and 200g income each year (half of it paid to us directly). And it's only 1st level of prosperity there! So we could still increase local bonuses by +20%. Total Province wealth also soars to 911! Which is twice as much as Venetia or Amalfi, which are coastal Merchant Republic counties. Almost forgot that we are about to engage Alans.
dNbjVep.jpeg

Somehow forgot to take the screen or clicked it through by accident. As you can see we do deal with them rather swiftly.

Soon we beat down those uppity peasants and have only Tula war to continue. More importantly after some administrative adjustment (used it to level up Seer trait) we finally get within vassal limit. Meaning we stop bleeding money! We acquire free demense slot since recent education upgrade. Didn't had time before battle to mention it - it does improve our odds at getting prosperity events, making medium time for happen be multiplied by another 0.9x. So now on average new Holding slot will happen every 27.98 years (from 31.09 years) and Province modifier 19.37 years (from 21,52 years). We still can improve it further by getting lifestyle trait and Architect trait we are working towards counts.

By November we finish wars for now, as new Nomadic host enters our realm from Silkroad. Once again our commanders are sent. For quite some time I was sending the same 3 (Salvatore, Dergun and Magnus) but they refuse to level up their martial education (levels 2, 3, 3 correspondingly). Other than that each other Commander we have is Brilliant Strategist and all of them have 2 Commander traits. We already have another generation of Italian commanders coming (some with both Brave and Cruel, some even have Patient!). Might retire some older commanders sooner than expected just to keep training new ones. Our Nenetsian vassal also declares war on Norse Germanic Petty King of Karelia (successful rebel). Which is great cause we don't want more raiders to deal with. For now I decided to keep county of Veliky-Ustug after revoking, as it will help us to feed technology to that distant western edge of empire.

Last month of 1282 comes with realisation that I forgot to utilize excommunication on new Count of Kiev and to my chagrin he got absolved of his sins. Ouch. There might be different solution at hand - next in line is Komi character so simple assassination would suffice. Another of Emperor's half-sisters (Elyuva Permyakid) comes out of age. No matter how crazy does it sound, instead of marrying her to future Basileus of Byzantine Empire (with 142.000 levies at his disposal) I decide to use her to fix another lowborn city court in Perm :D. She was just good enough (Midas Touched, Clubfooted, Kind, Stubborn, Patient, 15 stewardship). If you wonder currently 17 multi mayors are highborn and 8 are lowborn. So after Permyakid half-sister produces noble descendand it will go towards 18-7 ratio. Also I did little screenshot to show how after several years of working, does our vassal setup in Nenetsia looks like:
qWPtMum.jpeg

3 more russian rulers in Pskov remain, Polish count of Vilnius, double counts in Cheremisia&Tula to fix and then just give most kingdoms in de jure empire of Rus. We are putting solid fundaments for that future empire by unifying religion and cultures.

Before end of year our Patriarch dies due to complications related to Gout (new one has 25 Learning so not bad). Noticed that 64 years old Aztec Emperor Huetlatoani Tochtli 'the Dragon' is at the same time: stressed (-1 health), depressed (-1 health), has Great Pox (-2 health) and 3 different disease symptoms (for total of -3.25 health) on top of that but also has Succesful Treatment (+2 health), Decent Symptoms treatment (+0.5 health) and Excellent Symptoms treatment (+2 health). Added with his Skilled Tactician education (+0.5 health) he is at -2.25 health modifier right now. Meaning he probably won't live for long. Don't remember seeing anyone sick twice in ages. Despite all odds he kept winning various rebelions across years, succesfully replacing more and more Catholic French/Dutch vassals with Nahua Aztecs. So after his death Aztec empire will remain quite stable - albeit exhausted at 32.687 army size out of over 62.000 they could have. Event troops are also long gone so I'm little impressed that the AI managed to establish itself. Especially as there were two instances of multi wars targetting them, situation that for example Byzantines couldn't manage. We also beat down those nomads - just forgot to report it.

Year 1283
======================

Following year starts relatively comfy - we are up to date with Mayors, still have 2 Ashkenazis to convert for Patriarch and not many kids growed up during last year so not much done when it comes to tutoring. We did lose our old Italian commander Salvatore so new Italian got in his place. Our Aztec girl turned out to be passable Charismatic Negotiator and continues her cultural line in our court just in case. We had some quick fixing of Mayor's office in Cherdyn. Placed 38 French lowborn there despite having 22 Stewardship Komi lowborn fresh from education. Would prefer to move him to be Monk once we get rid of Nenetsia. We started also extracting counties in Pskov duchy.

Another Hermetic mission that arrives (first since we levelel up to be an Adept) is to just gather more ingredients. So I click that option in decisions menu and as always... It bugs out! We get 2 instances of gathering ingredients going. We also will be spending from both batches for every single event related to them. By May we end with 7-8 ingredients. Splurged some cash on some construction in held castles:
ETUI21l.jpeg

Well given relatively good reserve money we can spend a little to not totally waste years we could be constructing.

While stables weren't so important for me, it gets weird that my less advanced technologically vassals start housing more Heavy Cavalry than me x]. Then I let the time fly till July. When we end extraction of Russian county of Luki. Gambled on Scrying and got Bad omen just as needed before handing the title out to some high stewardship Orthodox Komi character. Thus we got to level 2 of Seer modifier (not the max yet). Soon our craftsmen from Kolva return with news of utter failure. Well - you win some, you lose some. That said I vaguely remember this event having 65%-35% success-failure ratio, so it might be little upsetting. Would be bigger regret if it targetted one of counties with 5 cities.

Turns out Aztec Emperor has both Great Pox and Consumption. Which suggest to me that maybe I should collect one more disease on our Spymaster. Thus Empress Kanyuva is funded on travel to Athens were Slow Fever is ongoing! Meanwhile back home our female siege leader Chichayka is continuing her work of siegeing out through Russian Aristocracy. We get another Excommunication on Pskov in October and the work continues.
jvFtDNL.jpeg

Well that -5% Burgher tax will hurt. Still should help a lot, as it is +5 to progress. Most of the time event progresses by 1 point per year. We had some delay earlier though so it still make take 2-3 years more.

Almost forgot that she is still searching for that rumored artifact. We will grant her this edict as this grants many "success" point. If this doesn't turn out to be some rarer artifact it should conclude quickly. Just in time before current court Physician treatment on her runs out. So we might get both artifact and ability to pick new wife. But that - in the future.

We also elimiante mistake-husband of our Genius female future Empress.
Poor guy, got married by the ruler's mistake, got killed by the ruler as punishment... for his own mistake!

Well I have some more news about him if anyone is interested: after I cleared that Genius Courtier I forgot about her again and next time I checked on her, not only has she left my court but found herself a new husband. At which point I gave up (due to complications in getting marriage annuled) and let them be. Even though that poor sod we killed was better trait wise (Genius) for us in the long run x]...

Part LXIII (1284-1292)

Part LXIII (1284-1292)

Year 1284
======================

Time surely does fly huh? Good thing I reminded myself about checking de jure drifts timings to have something in mind when it comes to our ongoing "Nenetsia secession" projects as we only have 2-3 years left, before more duchies become part of de jure Permo-Siberian empire. That is quite tight schedule but if worst comes to worst we can secede it at moment notice. We are almost done with current extraction in Pskov duchy but there is still one more Russian nobility member to eradicate and we have to deal with double count across both future empires. Have something planned already but first we need to fix one of those Catholic counties in north-western kingdom of Perm. Still it looks reasonable with our Siege commander to do this within a year, so it SHOULD go as planned.

As our usual duties occur, we do find a suitable candidate for becoming new Court-Tutor. One of our Italian courtiers turned out less that stellar when it comes to attributes yet still has quite nice set of traits. By appointing him I will save a lot of micromanaging guardians to ensure kids assimilate into Italian culture with simple education decision.
ZYnqQ0g.jpeg

Bought favor, forced to become Monk and invited back. With this simple trick we have quite a useful tool for mass converting courtier's kids into Italian culture while still confering +Attributes from Monastic events.

Invited some Genius Catholic courtier from abroad. Little too soon I guess cause Empress Kanyava is still alive. Now she risks getting converted (alongside our Nahua Aztec girl; if there is a chance that future Jurchen Emperor might like their religion it could hurt). We still have 3 Ashkenazis so this is 1/5 chances for it to really hurt us. On topic of which - it's time to move our Spymaster Empress Kanyava from Athens (where Smallpox vanished) to Thrace where there is currently epidemy of Measles. Would be great, if she catches it as sometime during this year her succesful treatment runs out.

With February we conclude extracting County of Pskov and place another high stewardship (16) Komi noble from elsewhere to then hand him over to our vassal Nenetsian king. One more but we are waiting on excommunication first. On the plus side we started operation "eliminate" catholic noble in Komi duchy. Did fix my mistake due to being too eager in inviting Genius Catholic future Empress - we pay her for another favor and kick her out. She is 46 years old so no one should be too eager to get her for wife and well she is Elusive Shadow (Max Level Intrigue education) so she should survive on her own for those next few years before Crusade. We instead invite some 19 Armenian Genius woman into our court. There is no risk of her getting converted, while this will prevent anyone from snatching her away from us.

We finally get that assasination making another Orthodox character take over then double check, if anything went awry with tutors after changing our old Alan Monk Tutor to young Italian one. Spent 25 piety on single "Invite Holy Man" decision to get another Komi Genius to marry off to one of recently widowed 30 year old Italian courtiers. This is such neat option to convert piety into this quasi administrative mana and keep pumping those Genius/Quick high learning characters either for generating technology points as Viceroys or providing genes for ongoing breeding program :). We demand Gavelkind from our double duke. He ask for 1.200 gold in return, which we are ok with paying. If not pressed for time I would probably just take 5 years of reduces opinion but now it is what it is. We simultaneously start organizing hitmen to get rid of him so his lands can split between his 2 not even teenage sons. One of vassals under Nenetsia revokes Sarkel county from some Orthodox Khazar ruler, who is werewolf that somehow managed to have claims on both Empire of Hispania and Kingdom of Italy. Which pretty much ideally describes Khazars and their activities during this playthrough x] Before April ends, treatment modifier on Empress Kanyuva runs out. So the time starts ticking for her demise.

May opens with more and more Stable III finishing in our castles. Soon we get first assassination on Cheremisian double duke and fail only to almost immedietely start again (670% plot power has it's benefits). Timer on ordering another Excommunications ends so week before end of month we start Extraction of Gdov. Our Patriarch also provides us with "Good in Job" event giving +6 prosperity points in capital Perm (that has some ways before going up there as it is currently at just 1st out 3 prosperity levels) and +25 Temple Vassal opinion. We manage to kill previously bribed vassal, so another administrative problem is resolved on the last day of May.

Our siege expert Chichayka begins siege and estimates it might take her around 84 days before castle surrenders. Not bad. We should not need more than half a year to get 2 local holding allowing us to win this war. So far so good. Then we embark on another building project - a relatively minor one. Improving our Stables can be done in every of 12 holdings we hold (technology haven't quite spread for other things) and this will give us our first base 5 heavy cavalrymen per holding (realisticallly we are getting 15-20 per holding). Given that another Crusade is within decade and we will secede almost half of our realm it is good idea to buff up military. Especially as it is mostly military that we will be losing with Nenetsia (as Nenetsian king despite his size gets only 200g of annual income from which he pays us around 10g). He does have around 14-18.000 troops though. Soon Kolva reaches first Prosperity level (thanks depopulation from Epidemies!).
cpJZDaW.jpeg

We agree as Kudymkar has recently built City that I'm still building up to basic level. Additionally declining gives nasty permament -10 Burgher vassal opinion modifier.

With August we get another Business focus - Carpenter's guild in Kudymkar. This is interesting. Lucky we missed out on starting Architect chain as we are not ready. To be frank I was not expecting it now (but was thinking it might happen in first half of next year). Those events tend to happen on average once every 2 years. So now we have some time of reference of when to prepare for next one. We need around half a year in advance to get all pealties to income to apply so paying 6 times our annual income for Great Towers isn't ridiculously expensive. The easiest way to achieve that is by going over the vassal limit. So in about a year time we will want to look into temporarily lowering our income. This isn't guaranteed to work as game can roll Garden event chain or any other available Business option. Still if we get it within 4 years of preparations then we are loosing less that we get by discount (as it might take over 6.5 times annual income).

Gdov castle falls and seems like our troops will need one more month to conclude things in county. Emperor's half-brother Onika has also trait intervention event (14.5 years of age). With 10 Stewardship and 11 Learning and already having Ambitious he is quite a spare heir. He has Brooding and Curious, so we will give him Diligent at the cost of Stressed for ourself, hoping Curious develops either into Patient or Shrewd and further helps him getting higher level of stewardship education. Soon we get to pick between those two as expected and suddenly we have really playable next character in case we don't manage to produce better character :). This is good situation to be in. So far I wasn't de-aging our current character and would like to not do this, so this soon to be 15 years old character might have some time to shine.

September continues on providing good news. Well maybe with exception of Black deapth erupting in India. It will probably sweep through subcontinent as their hospital levels aren't super high but I hope it doesn't reach us, as even after few healtcare public projects we aren't ready either. It will take us much longer to rebuild that prosperity too. We also had 2 major Epidemies (size wise) in this century so give me a break! But what about those good news? Well for started we finish working on Gdov so not only we can hand it over but we can give away our 3rd duchy title (Pskov), that we were holding to avoid any tricks on AI part. This improves our standing among vassals by getting rid of another -10 opinion penalty. Then we get news about our Empress&Spymaster dying. Which is another task well done. We invite back previously targetted French 46 y.o. Genius Catholic woman to marry but also get 12/10 demense limit situation. Which somewhat works for business focus and will probably remain to be an issue as just getting -1 stewardship from Stressed for moment was enough to lower us to 12/11 and Empress Kanyava was providing a lot of stewardship. We also secretly convert to Catholicism.
uowMggb.jpeg

Turns out we had to beg Ducal Viceroyalties for forgivness.

Having concluded war can pass some laws. Well we wanted that Ducal Viceroyalties not only for option itself but also to lower vassal limit by 5. We then wed Alix de Fougeres but she isn't good enough to offset lack of attributes. So after this and passing some Ducal Viceroyalties we are looking at 12/10 Demense limit and 54/52 vassal limit. We can get at least vassal portion of this problem fixed by feeding our vassal King Pakstyan 'the Fat' of Nenetsia Kingdoms some of his fellow vassals. Soon we reduce our vassal count by 5. Two problems did occur though - the previous land of Cheremisia in Vladimir doesn't want to go with Vladimir kingdom title and Duchess of Ryazan took over county in Bolgharia. I think we may fix it by granting our Nenetsian vassal Ducal Viceroyalty of Novosil to get rid of that Cheremisian portion of problem. Duchess of Vladimir we have to retract manually. Luckily despite having "Maybe" stance this whole situation doesn't devolve into Civil war (which we would win but not in time to prevent de jure drift). Well perhaps he agreed cause we just gave him 4-5 kingdom titles and bunch of vassals. So we then proceed to revoke from Duchess of Ryazan (who was still imprisoned in our dungeons and eligible traitor for revocation for previous betrayal).
IDyF0az.jpeg

Everything starts falling into place. Now we can secede Nenetsia and be eligible for partaking in Great Holy War.

Then I have to delve into internet wisdom to read up on what happens, if we make whoever we made Viceroy - independent. Turns out my Vassal-King passed down Viceroy titles to someone else thus becoming heir to the titles himself. Well good enough for me. Few more clicks for converting back and forth and after 200 years we finally manage to hand off western parts of our realm. Well bloody finally! We instantly feed new king over 1.000 gold coins to create Empire title. While we still have some counties to shave off it is much less. We also went from 566 Realm Size to 277, while army numbers now just 55.5 thousand troops (but we still are able to replenish 2.000 personal levies more). New sibling empire has quite nice outlook too. It also shows more accurately how far ahead we get in our own weight class.

Year 1285
======================

What a busy year we had! Had to hand over Burtasy county to improve our Seer modifier thanks to which we went from 13/10 to 12/11 demense limit. We just generated some holy man and married him to 50 year old Greek courtier for time being. Why? Because after taking Bilyar in Bolgharia from Duchess of Ryazan I have no easy way of of giving just top holding without giving 2 multi city Mayors and local bishop away. After all that chaos I realise I did miss one opportunity - we could enlarge our Retinue by quite a lot. Because after we would be over the limit, then our neighbour could also create his own retinues, vastly improving army sizes in case of alliances. For now we are still educating their only heir under Gavelkind with best educators in the world to ensure smooth sailing for next 50 years. Hoping they will move towards Primogeniture with their capital already having Legalism III (which enables Late Medieval Admnistration needed for more advanced succession laws). Funny enough Emperor Pakstyan 'the Fat' of Suomi retained single Viceroy we gave him x]. Might add - without having Imperial Administration passed. Well this is Ironman so there is no going back but was still worth it. Now we will have less vassals to worry about (especially schemers who were running rampant). Soon our previous vassal creates 2nd Orthodox Komi Empire - Suomi.
lDeKD8L.jpeg

BBM6Ev5.jpeg

Different name but same color and Coat of Arms. Well that's quite a look if I say so myself :)

Now they can keep blobing west. Have my blessing too. We did lose some diplomatic range for interactions and can no longer engage with courts in Italy/Aquitaine/Ireland and England/Spain. We roughly have range towards Rhine river river when it comes to possible contacts. Well we will have to do with that. We also stopped de jure drift timer and started letting some Permo-Siberian clay to start counting as part of Suomi Empire. As some of you noticed, before seceding former Nenetsia did expand into Finland (Karelia).

Usual court maintenance occurs. We get another nice 18 stewardship female courtier, some more marrying occurs and spend over 400 piety before I have to stop my "Invite Holy Men" gambling addiction. With close to +200 piety per year we definetely can afford much but not before Crusade. Instead we can start retracting not-de jure vassals from few of our vassals, who were running rampart. First we target Duke of Yaik, who has quite some lands in previous Khazar steppe. Aim is simple - appoint our own high stewardship rulers there to get rid of cultures that allow for raiding (and creation of raiding adventurer hosts).

With start of Spring we quite unexpectedly get an invention event (Hermetic society). We do have to force our idea about Stewardship topic, as arguing gives us only 63% chance of forcing through. Then we get also new holding slot for 10k in Tynea from prosperity. A suprise but a welcomed one. We start extraction process in Ponto-Caspian sea with 2 new Italian Commanders (Male Teodoro with 16 Martial, level 2 Martial Education and Strong+Shrewd and Female Lavinia with 17 Martial with level 3 Martial Education, Strong and Patient) to start their training.
5cqDaqJ.jpeg

Ok. We are falling behind on collecting more cities from elsewhere. Right now we have 6 slots free for taxing extra cities! Also 31 holding slots right now in our 6 county capital duchy :)

By August we fail our invention event chain. Huh that is a suprise. Everyone had a decent amount of Learning and still positive relations of me. Will have to look into event file to guess how this happen. Well that is certainly discouraging. Then depression (trait) goes back and we decide to use double ingredients this time for cure, as previously game despite my expectations didn't dip into our ingredients. We start plot to kill our Empress (cause previous one bugged out when we seceded Suomi Empire). We were having some conversions but both of them missed high stewardship character and landed on our Empress and Aztec Girl.
1CzzVot.jpeg

Ok. This isn't as straightforward as I was thinking/wishing it to be. Will have to dig into gamefiles to optimize it better for next time.

In October we do get another count retracted from bigger vassals in Eastern part of Empire. We do let some air into dungeons and empty them (and court) from useless people. We still have 3 traitors waiting to be punished. Another Business event misses it's mark (Coin Minting) meaning we can still wait more. Our Winter Commander also succumbs to his own mortality and we have another vacant slot for new Italian Commander.

During November Empress Alix de Fougeres dies due to wine poisoning. Completely unexpected accident as anyone is concerned. Thanks to that we get bigger penalties to income and now I have choice. Do we marry instantly with 20 years old Genius Armenian or wait 2-4 years more, hoping that we finally get Architect event chain? I think I will wait. Then before end of year our half-brother&heir Onika Permyakid grows up into absolute beast of the ruler:
GoRGOrx.jpeg

While only level 2 education, him having combination of Shrewd, Ambitious, Diligent and Just pump his attributes into stratosphere.

Year 1286
======================

We enter 1286 with grimm realisation about forgetting something. Didn't replace councillor on artifact hunt! Our modifier does expire in around 2 more years and I don't know what happens when we run out of time. Probably it ends in failure? Haven't had this issue for quite some time. So our sister-in law (Marshal) is now tasked with looking for it. Soon new city of Posha is founded in Tynea and we keep it (13/10 vassal limit) to lower our income. Our new Italian youngsters also win against Khazarian rebel vassal on his own county, giving extra warscore (up to 54% with half his holding occupied).

Soon our artifact hunter wants us to give 25% of National levies to help her. Hmmm. It will persist till 1291, while our artifact rumor lasts till 1288. It's also just the beggining and I think the progress can't get into negative. We will have Crusade in around a year forcing us to mobilize. Forget it - I'm wrong. Crusade can be called the earliest in 1289 (just had wrong info in my personal notes). Which makes this an ok-deal no matter what happens.
cLMR9KZ.jpeg

Just as Stables IV finished we continue enchancing our military might in all castle holdings.

Year goes fast as we keep beating 500 strong enemy army and slowly siegeing through his holdings. Black Plague seems to be limited to India and Aztec Empire new ruler after some weird kinslaying of his adolescent brother, starts turning his fight against HRE but then gets imprisoned in battle and awaits loosing single duchy of Alemannia. Most unfortunate as despite how badly it initially looked as he was still embroiled in peasant revolt in Spain and conquest of rest of Austrasia (fixing some border gore), he dealt with those just in time for HRE emperor to lose 3/4 of his 40.000 army.

November is marked by losing our Mayor of Chemuska (also Hermetic Apprentice) but got automatically replaced by previously planted there Ashkenazi courtier with 17 Stewardship. So nothing to do there. We also get another Business event and it is... Funding craftsmen guild. Whoop, Whoop, Whoop. It's like at least 3-4 times since we finished trade route so we could at the very least get Gardener to decline it.
NQPCraj.jpeg

Well that's the biggest reaccuring instance of it in place it previously didn't affect IRC.

Year 1287
======================

Hoping for that Tower event "soonish" as I lowered my income down to +1.991 gold per year. Right now the whole event chain wouldn't cost more than 12.000 coins. We appoint guardians for intervention traits for 3 more kids in court (it really growed up to over 80 characters so some fertility penalties might be taking place) and I ponder if by accident we are not making too many military commanders. So far I was making Martial education, if kid had better aptitude for it. But nowe we might run into situation where we train more commanders that we have room for.

As time is unpaused, we get notified about ability to go into hiding. Upon checking I manage to glimpse at plot with "UI missing component" and the game crashes on me. Oh wow. Upon replaying those several days I think the source is due to recent seperation - we had internal plots that now became external with characters that shouldn't be able to participate. As some duke picked bunch of bishops from Empire of Suomi to help usurp our kingdom title. The killing danger comes from Duchess of Ob from whom we revoked plenty of vassals. She will accept stopping her plot.
s3agAsZ.jpeg

Three years in and we hit the peak catastrophy levels.

We lose one of Mayors (42 y.o) due to Cancer and as I'm fixing it the game crashes again. This time it was my internet fault for change of pace. Well seems I'm forced to take some break in this playing session. Day later I do replay initial months for game to close again (this time it was GFN update that forced it). Well annoying... Luckily there isn't much happening in the first 4 month and we have save on 17th January after initial court managment is done. Finally on the 4th try we manage to reach at least half a year.

We do force and conclude extraction war 2 times during this period, reducing Khazarian Duke in the south to just 1 out of 4 initial counties. For now I keep those holdings on myself as I really hope for Business focus finally starting lifestyle event chain (and right now our income is down to just 114g!). Things aren't too unstable as we don't have any unjustly revoked titles. Did marry off few finished administrators into few city courts with elderly Mayors ahead of time. This way we both increase their fertility, the fertility of remaining in court characters as well as prepare for their successions. Emperor Zarny becomes the grandfather of Quick Kanyuva Permyakid 5th of July. Few days later we conclude another Khazarian extraction.

After that we continue with some Tribal Khazar next door. Excommunication, arrest - you know the drill. Then as we finish him in November, I decide to Hold a Feast. Clicked Compose a Book by mistake. Well we weren't ready (no Organiser leader trait) yet it doesn't matter as game didn't offer us Stewardship topic anyway. Thus we decide to go with Learning for change of pace as IRC there is some -Construction Cost option there. Sadly we won't be able to write on Stewardship on this character. Well this is one of problems with high attribute characters - we roll on getting stewardship topic offered or not.

Then we throw this feast anyway (extra prosperity). As I keep hearing Trade post income noise I check and turns out after revoking county of Itil we got into possession of one. It is responsible for half of our current income. Didn't notice it earlier and now we run out of possible characters with high stewardship for good chances on culture conversions. Given that we are just getting 115g per year I don't think that waiting this year or two will disturb this AAR so much due to having this single trade post (barely upgraded also). In the slightly longer frame of time I will secede those lands as well. Just want to ensure they convert to our culture.

Year 1288
======================

Year starts with some Mayor dying and me for some reason being unable to marry off our amazing 22 Stewardship courtier to lowborn matrilineary so we have to make do with worse marriage option to fix it. Feast ends and we can soon start eradicating last vestiges of Nomadism on our southern borders. All 3 young Italian commanders (Lavinia, Teodoro and Guigliadore) will have occassion to train themself against quite a enemy - Chernigov khaganate! Then as predicted our artifact rumor is lost and our Councillor is recalled.
ilCFpim.jpeg

Well it didn't work out. Still we at least achieved more urgent objectives.

Another Mayor dies but he was the one we prepared for last year so everything is alright. Out of curiosity I check what is going on in Western Europe and Aztec Empires continue expanding - this time into Burgundy. They should do fine cause HRE just devolved into Civil war so there is no one to check them. Besides huge (55.000+) Liberation uprising in Brythoniad on the British Isles. This is more than exhausted Aztecs can muster right now but even if they lose - they still have Wales territory as staging ground for further recapture. Oh noe wait. Forgot that Brythoniad was Welsch (got used to England proper being called it cause of previous Welsh expansion). One great thing is that those event troops might help us in getting enough troops for next Crusade in around year. If they succeed.

By May we are in position to launch liberation war against Chernigov Orthodox Khazarian Khaganate. We just replace our vassal troops that died and timing is extremely precise as we maange to catch just a Khan army, without his khagan allies meaning we fight 1/3 of their total troops.
SoyCRk9.jpeg

OGWkZdr.jpeg

That's what I like to see from our greenhorns! Proper Shieldwall and steady progress towards melee. Sadly they are out of their depths for second battle.

We slowly trudge through skirmish and the first enemy flank to charge into melee is his right flank. Our Left wing does roll culture-specific Pike Column-Advance (+120% Heavy Infantry Attack, +300% Pikemen Attack, +60% Heavy Cavalry Attack) for enemy Charge of Opportunity (+120% Heavy Infantry Attack, +300% Heavy Cavalry/Horse Archers Attack). Then our right wing charges their left and soon we are just left with enemy center. Fight doesn''t take much longer but the casualty ratio isn't the best. On the plus side - their 2.800 vassal troops are moving away so we should be able to divide and conquer our enemies.

After first battle we secure fort in present province and manage to take over Khan's capital (up to 59% Warscore). Then we get both province prosperity modifier (Scholar-Foundation) and Craftsmen guild in Syrt turns out to be a success (+10% City tax for 10 years). Soon as we move to secure another province we get to fend off joined Chernigov forces. Decided to give our young Italians a chance and soon the tough battle against numerically superior enemy begins.

It doesn't go too well and we are losing skirmish. We last till Melee where our left flank counters enemy Charge with Slow Advance but they are on just 22% of their morale. On the other side our right flank forces Advance to get countered with Charge and as they were on their last legs already (21% of their morale) they definetely are a toast. As both wings run I decide to pull out. No sense in suffering even bigger losses with remaining center that was still in skirmish. That stings and turns out we couldn't leave it to newcomers. Time to assemble proper army and try again.

Before end of year we get another Craftsmen guild event - this time in Bilyar. Game doesn't likes our fully developed provinces, does it ;)? Also all of Castle Walls IV are done so we continue with Castle Fortification IV.

Year 1289
======================

Finally the year of Crusading begins. According to the tooltip it should happen in November. So we have some time left to finish Nomads. Looking back into Europe - Aztecs are winning in Burgundy, losing in British Isles and suffered attack from Scotland for Northumberland. Black Plague in India also started thinning out.

Chernigov Khazars also sieged out our holding inside their lands but we also gathered over 8.500 men in Naberezhnye and move south right now. We get to intervene in one of our former Permyakid vassal education (making him diligent at the cost of the stressed that we instantly cure with Potion of Eudaimonia) then buy favor from Emperor of Suomi to ensure good education for his son and heir (so he can expand a little more).
Kqibzz6.jpeg

Excuse me getting side tracked but I really want to fix some of the border gore on our borders.

The war with Nomads concludes before July, and we invite bunch of Suomi Komi courtiers to take over administration of those formerly Nomad land. As they were Orthodox they don't have to wait for conversion and can start eradicating Khazarian culture all-together at once. We hand out 2 Viceroyal Duchies and City of Posha to lower our over the limit penalties (going down to 12/10 demense and 56/50 vassals). Cause we need troops to start regenerating.

It is also high time to become Catholic. Emperor Zarny does embrace his hidden faith. We sent coronation request with bribe ASAP and the game scams us as day later Pope dies, the request ends in oblivion but the timer on decision remains :3"... To my suprise we also get another Great Invention event for which we pay less cause our penalty to taxes haven't been fully lifted yet. Decide also to marry that Armenian Genius girl we invited quite some time ago. She is 24 years old and we picked "Groom an heir" ambition (+20% Fertility) so who knows - maybe we get some Genius finally. It was mostly due to wanting to improve our current limits to get even more troops.

On November Pope changes again. Well quite hectic isn't it? Good thing I didn't send another bribe, patiently waiting for cooldown on decision to have coronation to wear off. No Crusade yet so far. We do finish our Invention event and the game scams us - we get Advanced Mill in Perm again. It doesn't event refresh duration :/... Well why couldn't it target different province =.=?
sFcNeTO.jpeg

Damn it! We really wanted for it to land somewhere else.

After writing this part I went and looked into this event chain, then decided to put it here. Wanted to learn more about it. First of all for it to fire we need to be in peace, be rank 2 or higher, have built laboratory and there must be 4 society members, with whom we have 15+ opinion (both ways). If we lack those one of guests can propose someone. Well you also need Learning of 10 (but I skip it as you also need as much for joining Hermetics anyway). After invited characters arrive (good chance of inviting rival in society) another step occurs. Dumb/Ambitious or characters with less than 10 opinion of you can protest. They suggest different topic with weight increased by matching education or lifestyle traits (so Martial Education will multiply war invention chance by 1.5x). Debating them compares Learning attributes of both sides for success (up to 20). After resolving this step (it can fail whole event chain) there is another phase in which you pick safe/risky option, after which people can argue (40 weight), you agree with someone (35 weight) or you have Brilliant Insight (25 weight but can be improved by learning up to 18 and having succesful Divine Summoning). Having up to 16 Diplomacy helps handle people fighting. Then finally we look into how the game calculates outcomes. Both our character Learning, having Briliant Insight and collective learning of all characters between 40 and 60 increases the chances for outcomes. Interestingely Best invention is only possible with picking Risky Invention option and OK invention has the same requirement with "Safe Invention". Meaning we can eliminate one or the other. Briliant Insight hugely improves those critical successes (multiplier 100) and somehow good outcomes (10x). Having high Learning (up to 20) and collective learning (up to 60) makes the best outcomes most likely and failures less likely. There is no other way of affecting Good and Ok result. Meaning for us as we no longer want Prosperity best outcome (Compass that we already have) we should aim for Safe options. Which will make only eligible result "Blast Furnace" (Good outcome) and "Great Windmill" (Ok outcome) province modifiers. It's good to know as we experienced having wasted invention event chain on getting spare Compasses that got instantly destroyed (duplicate). Then after checking this Divine Summoning it isn't any good outcome - it's the critical variant "Divine Epiphany". Lastly - turns out it can target only Capital county. Meaning that we will be quite limited in how many provinces can we affect with it during each year. Unless we start temporarily handing down capital provinces to some childless courtiers just for this event. On other hand having both province modifiers is also possible. That's more to our liking.

Year 1290
======================

First year since secession when I check how many Jews from abroad can we get. Well it certainly did a number on us. Didn't help that Mr Aztec is not eligible for generating Jews so his replacing of western europeans with his own culture/religion rulers doesn't help. We still get at least one. Question is how badly will we need. I don't know. Right now it is spooky as everything is well managed. Which probably means that we are due to experience many Mayors dying at once. Something to take into consideration before commiting every good stewardship character to life as Monk in our Bishoprics.

By February we repeat the plea for coronation but once we hear the Pope's request it is ridiculous. He wants us to give away Duchy of Bolghar containing 5 personally held counties to Knights of Calatrava. It's out of question! So we will have to wait more on more reasonable request to fullfil. But we do request Crusade on... Kingdom of Rajputana in India. Was planning this since I saw the Black Plague didn't spread outside subcontinent. Now they are still severely weakened with depopulation modifiers and this would finally allow Christianity to tap into India's wealth. We are also well positioned to make the most of it as it's relatively close distance from our borders allowing us to monopolize contributions. Thus before end of March the war coffer reaches 5.400 gold coins.
7enFT00.jpeg

Time for some adventure!

In May we get visit from 1.800 Nomads in Saur - perfect opportunity to give some training to new trio of Italian commanders. We also become the leader of Hermetic Society (which is nice cause we didn't had to spend any society currency on this and we were wanting in that regard). Time to check up on our Commanders. We still have 2 veterans from previous Crusade (Scottish Nydog Sarin and Magnus Tuhan) and well our leader also was there to get his "Crusader Club Card". Beside them we have also Chichayka for Sieges and Brice de Tynea as emergency pick. We still have remnants of Scottish breeding program, as Italian project is taking off.
i6ioGXq.jpeg

We have 3 generations of commanders right now. Old veterans and new greenhorns. Should be ok but can be tricky if all oldtimers die.

As I watch number of gold coins getting bigger and bigger (Yes! Number goes bigger! Me happy!) we suffer some complication. Due to our Wicked Bishop of Perm finally dying, his 2 holding setup gets disintegrated. Observed this last time but for some reason, as religion of holder changes all of his holding get usurped by new characters of liege religion. So this is one downside to my flirting with Western Catholicism - it destroys our Temple vassal setups.

It isn't as bad as what happens before Summer. All of sudden Crusade gets cancelled. Noooo!
hCjDfxW.jpeg

As the whole Crusade menu vanished I have no way of checking for exact reason.

Suspect someone pulled out, as both HRE (civil war) and Catholic rebels in Brythoniad didn't join us. We were surfing on 82-84%. Too close to the sun. Thus my brilliant idea of fighting for Prestor John kingdom in fragmented Tibet further weakened with Black Plague that they still haven't recovered from went into flames. Was so excited for this exotic campaign without having Europe united already. That would be so cool and fresh air from how it usually goes. Not gonna lie - it broke my heart a little. Did paid little into coffers as lately I really want extra piety.

There is more to this story though. It didn't completely fail the Crusade as next Crusade fired at once. This time for... France. Which is something I don't really want to do. Would prefer Aztec unite Europe to then embrace Catholicism. So the west can finally join the big boys, as that whole HRE kind off fizzled out. What's more - previously donated gold evaporated. Meaning this Crusade will become less lucrative. Don't love idea of joining. We will have to do heavy lifting and are not interested in lands, while monetary gains might be too small to be going for. Absent mindendly I join thinking about changing the target again but we can't.
aRUFAGv.jpeg

Oh boy... Why now? This is some bad luck

Game also decides that we really want another Slow Fever in this century. Somehow it gets really bad and we recently pushed our healthcare nationwide quite a lot. Let's hope it doesn't turn into another major pandemic problem that affect over 1/4 of our provinces with that nasty -40% income province modifier.

To my frustration it doesn't end there. We finally get Tower event. The game trolls us at this point as we just got back to almost 100% of our income. Thus the costs will be astronomical (we are making almost 5.000 gold per year and this event can easily take 6.5 times annual income xD). At least our character gets excited about French Crusade and gets Zealous. Luckily it doesn't prevent us from converting back to Orthodoxy via Secretly converting to wife religion. Imagine how pissed I would get if we now would get stranded as Catholic on this God forsaken escapade against Aztec, while losing more Bishoprics setups to different religion sheningans =D"...

Before end of year I suprise myself again as our Tower event chain gets interupted with business event about Craftsmen succeding in Bilyar (duchy of Bolghar). Imagine how cool it would be if Invention event chain would too target non-capital provinces if capital already has some of the possible modifiers.

Year 1291
======================

As I enter another year and Crusade comes close to fruition I'm not thinking enough about my current actions. Was hoping it fails too due to too low troops count but pulled out myself too late. Because more rulers get interested in Fighting for France. Not all as some of the locals are already busy with fighting Aztecs or are suffering different foreign invasions. As I was raising my troops previously I start sending them. Not much hope though as competing with so many different rulers for those scraps of gold will be tough. We can't exactly carpet siege either as Aztecs can sport those 50-60.000 troops.
jxp2foA.jpeg

I'll give you Deus Vult!

Imagine my suprise as few days after start of the Crusade I realize we are not part of it, even though I rejoined last moment. All of this because there is longer cooldown before Pope chastises you for leaving the Crusading pledge, which probably put some character flag on us. Meaning Crusade goes without us. Well... Good luck fellow Europeans! I'm totally not cheering up for Aztecs now out of spite xD. Why wouldn't you understand that you need to conquer India first to have a chance at Aztecs! Goosh!

This does leave me with more free time and attention so we keep rolling on those Coronation requests. Next thing that Pope wants is to fight excommunicated Sultan of Egypt. Oh right. That probably explains our issues in organizing for India. It's the second time that Egypt finds itself excommunicated before Crusade. We thank for this generous offer but don't intend on pursuing this.

When it comes to French Crusade, Aztecs are in bad position as they were fighting different rebelions so are out of place. Somehow Crusaders are able to start siegeing out some border provinces, but not within de jure kingdom of France (Did check by sending spymaster there). By end of March I notice that Empress is pregnant. Good timing - we should be able to get "Baptised by Pope" modifier for our kid.

Once the timer is off we ask again for coronation but this time, the Pope-man insist again on handing counties to Holy Order. We decline this request again. Not much happens till autumn as I watch as game plays.
HcAJfQW.jpeg

Sadly we have to resolve to this as this event is bugged for Orthodox and Miaphysite faiths when it comes to selecting baptizers.

With next season we do get... Arnaz Permyakid as non-genius/non-quick male heir. Baptism is organised at least for the first time. Third hermetic invention event (well that's a lot in span of 9 years) but as I didn't delve into it and forced topic of Prosperity it failed again (haven't checked gamefile at this point of playing). At the very least after paying our dues we conclude "Tower event chain" with Architect lifestyle trait. This bumps our chances for prosperity events from Crown focus the highest it can get (9/10 0.9x modifiers for MTTH). For now I don't pick new focus as I need to thing about it between playing sessions. We don't necessarily need anything right now. We probably can't write another book within this character lifespan so picking War focus is pointless. We have quite nice traits already but are in this awkard place, where we could still like to improve our education as lack of more stewardship prevents us from going for Family to bump our Fertility even higher.
wYK3vZY.jpeg

Our expensive feats. Second attempt at getting Leaning tower!

What's more this starts the 10 years timer for possibility of tower beginning to lean. This has rather low weight in gamefile but I'm not entirely sure how to interpret the chances. Nothing does clear some event flags so I will have to check in the future if this keeps rolling after those 10 years at low chance. For now we save Mason as Important Character (can help in the future), add this to notes and proceed with Coronation attempt #4. Finally Pope is reasonable as he demands giving him the power over appointing Bishops in our realm. I'm happy to oblige as establishing Free Investiture has backfired (it counts as negative modifier when requesting Excommunications from... Orthodox Patriarch) and well... We won't be Catholic for long. We will gladly accept that nice coronation modifier though ;)
QI6T3sq.jpeg

Not sure if we have seen all possible outcomes in this event chain. But at the very least this is 2nd Emperor recognised by Vatican.

Year 1292
======================

Welp after really not great and chaotic year we at least calm action in our Empire. Don't care how Catholics do now, we are back to Orthodoxy, having fixed our Investiture (no longer penalty on Orthodox Patriarch), got Coronation and Baptism. Having done my usual court maintenance we start assessing how much Catholic problems we have with Rulers that converted. Not much it seems - just single Count did convert.

By March we get 2.450 nomads in North-Western Cumania, so our border guards are called in. We catch them up by May and the battle begins:
oeCYxyI.jpeg

Time to unload my frustration on Nomadic visitors. Take that!

Battle goes swiftly but we don't develop anything on my Commanders. Hmm. It was quite some time since last time we had so well developed Commanders and now I wonder if we will be able to keep training them as number of nomadic provinces shrinks. Well as long as we can keep making 16+ Martial Italian it isn't so bad due to good chances of getting Shieldwall in skirmish and Pike-Column in melee for our Pikes.

In June I do check on how are eastern provinces are coping with another disease outbreak, which still persists. It's not so bad. Just 5 counties got affected. So it isn't another huge problem. Still any outbreak wipes out prosperity progress. Not sure if it locks it on each level treshold. So it's not ideal but not much we can do about it.
YTQL7A9.jpeg

Ok maybe I freaked out a little too much - it is adjecent to Silkroad so chances are higher

Time flies till October when another Mayor dies but we get rare occasion to fix it with remaining noble courtier that grew up. Wife becomes pregnant again. Maybe we don't need Family focus as badly as I thought. It is playing with fire as we still need 16 years for youngest male child to pass if we would decide on half-brother taking over Zarny. For now we will keep rolling on those Genius characters. Was doing quite awful so far but somehow those super-human breed rulers keep eluding me most of the time. Well Quick and Shrewd would do this. We just need it for prosperity modifiers at this point.

Crusade do succesfully conclude. Even though Aztecs managed to fend off other wars before Crusaders get up to 30% and despite Catholicism lackluster MA (barely above 40%; which also decides how many men Holy Orders can have). They did take over France, thus cutting Aztec empire into more parts. That definetely hurted them but on other hand, liberated Welsch Brythoniad wasted their event troops in express time. Trans-Atlantic guests also also closer and closer to connecting their Iberian and French lands, which probably will help them with logistic.
LfDZqDP.jpeg

Curse you! We were played badly with that whole Crusade. Lesson for future.

There is huge chance of Western Europe devolving into this tug of war between Christians and Aztecs. While native Europeans can slowly take back their lands, Aztecs given ability to invade for whole kingdoms are still enlarging their realm. This puts a serious doubt on how succesful future Crusades can be. We have also some more problems encountered in this scenario: probably need even more preparations. Getting allies close to re-stock provisions and avoid provisions of troops marching from Siberia would be fantastic. Right now we have to predict exactly how early we do need to start marching to arrive exactly at start of the conflict. If we arrive too soon - we will suffer attrition. Arrive too late and we losing potential gold. We also are in somewhat of a need of military might increase. But that's for the future...

/Edit by Sanvone: Delay due to first being discouraged with setbacks and then for 2 days problems with my internet provider. But here we go at least.

I think truces can mess with Crusades (i.e. if someone pledged to the Crusade had a truce with whoever was the Crusade target), or the total Catholic troop count pledged to the Crusade was much smaller than the enemy's. Or maybe the Crusade target was fighting alongside/against a pledged ruler.

that is one annoying bug ngl, all that effort to go to idea thrown out of the window lmao. Bright side is at least parts of France has been liberated. Time to see if they can keep the momentum against the Aztecs

Probably not as Aztec Empire was in war with Burgundy (which somehow managed to stick to it's de jure borders almost perfectly), so they are about to get back as much troops, as they lost with Kingdom of France. Some Aztec vassals are also eating Empire of Hispania.

I might intervene in the future with some converted Aztec heir. To do this in one go :).

Part LXIV (1293-1300)

Part LXIV (1293-1300)

Year 1293
======================

Time to progress the "After Crusade" timeline. First order of business - standard court maintenance (marriages of courtiers and seeing to education of children). We see to our 21 kids growing up, then see through list of all grown ups and kick out older characters we no longer have use for. This way we slim down court size down to 84. I pick up on one of Caravan gifted courtiers (Mande Orthodox Eunuch with 22 Stewardship that is 23 years old. He will make for perfect Bishop somewhere (with potential of living up another 40-50 years). After that it is time to find and revoke some titles. We need to include more non-direct vassal cities into our network. Find 2 cities, but one turns out to be outside of our dreamed borders (realized after revoking) so we only get 1 more city (finishing another 2/3 Mayor in Tynea, leaving two more 1/3 Mayors in Tynea and Kudymkar). We get another assassination to fix other over the demense Mayor and swap Business focus for Rulership. Why? Cause I wish to get rid of our 12/11 demense problem and upgrading education or getting Just/Ambitious might be just a way of achieving that. Emperor Zarny has 6 traits right now so we gamble a little. Also I hope that lower weight of Rulership events will help us get other things (Lost Book on Architecture please!). All that in January.

Some 1.900 Manichean Uyghur nomadic host encroaches on Aylik county from the Silkroad. We move our young Italian trio to deal with them, as we receive another Aztec flavour pop-up. For moment thought it is another message related to their conquest but no. They are currently 1vs1 Kingdom of Burgundy (40.000 vs 9.000 troops in Aztec favor). This war goes since before the Crusade and is at 9% warscore for Burgundians. Aztecs are already siegeing Dijon so I think they will get it, thus rebound from losing France. This will put them one step closer to connecting their continental lands.
X3eYQxz.jpeg

Trans atlantic news. Also last vestiges of nomads (I hope).

Battle goes somewhat worse than expected and lasts till May. Our center loses slowly against 200 less numerous enemy center, despite having +37% Defence from commanding Lavinia di Bergamo (while her opponents has nothing). Teodoro's flank charges first the moment our center drops down to 73% of Morale. This reverses the flow of battle. By the next change of tactics, Lavinia decides to follow suit and Charges too. We soon break enemy after which all 3 army segments fall upon enemy left flank. For few days they counter our opposing flank (meaning we exchange 9 casualties for 6 casualties) but then we grind them down with skirmish and give chase. Thanks to this battle Lavinia developed Light Foot Leader (+37% Lightfoot Troops), which is quite useless for us.

We proceeds with killings of Finno-Ugric petite bourgeoisie, get Councillor (Steward) prosperity event in Osha (for 400g) and father 3rd daughter with Emperor (Pokshava Permyakid). Sadly no genetic traits were inherited. We're also starting to experience squeeze. Not enough characters to keep replacing older Mayors that are just about to die. So we spent most of the summer, inviting new courtiers and converting them.

For Autumn I decide to push with more title revocations (taking a brief pause after each one to see how much more our income will suffer from it). We also take a gamble and perform hermetic scrying. Takes up to October to get Confident Seer modifier. But I want moar. So we take a risky move on using ingredient on another Scrying and we get Reassuring Vision. We are right now on 5 unjust revocations but it didn't affect us heavily (despite having -75 opinion with most vassals; our Mayors are still close to 100 opinion). Which means we know we can readjust internal administrative division of our Empire much more rapidly that previously planned.
xqgAWUh.jpeg

Sadly despite getting +1 Diplomacy/Martial/Intrigue and +2 Stewardship/Learning we did not improve our demense+vassal limits.

Before end of year we start a Feast (extra prosperity for pocket change doesn't hurt). We make another Friend in Hermetic society (he has only 14 learning but still this is nice to have for Invention events). Did some re-ordering of important characters to realise we have right now 5 over the demense limit bishops. Well much work ahead of us remains.

Year 1294
======================

More marriages happen and we do quickly convert 2 Jews thanks to Permo-Siberian Patriarch. This gives me some leeway. Before end of Winter we catch up to date with assassinations. We do spend close to 250 piety on generating Genius Holy Men to keep marrying them. Maybe in the long run we will be running Empire in which every city holding and every Duke is Genius. Would be neat to keep those genes going x].

Meanwhile we did some arrests of vassals that liked Spying focus too much. We also find a 22 Learning member of Hermetic Society and start swaying him. Currently have 2 society friends (14 and 19 learning but somewhat annoyingly both are ambitious meaning they will argue for more ambitious projects). In case we get any more of those highly sought after events I want to increase my odds at getting what we want. For now we have another even bigger raiding Manichean Uyghur host (2.650 men).
3fkynP7.jpeg

Tough battle ahead but the same sets of opening tactics as previously. Growed to like those skirmishes as Commander training.

Nervously I watch over this battle. We probably should pick more experienced commanders but I want to train new generation ASAP. Luckily local count reinforces our side with around 700+ troops. This time skirmish goes slightly less awful and it is Nomads who charge first. In result they get countered in Center with Slow Advance (+400% against their tactic), while our left is using Pike Column Advance against their charge (for some reason they don't get counter bonus; perhaps because it is still skirmish phase charge?). Thus we exchange for few days around 250 enemies for 33 own soldiers in casualties. Then steadily we beat them down with our right flank to then 3vs1 their remaining army segment. Lavinia develops Flat Terrain Expert (Combat in Plains/Farmlands/Steppe: +37%). This leaves her only with potential of upgrading her education (another +3 Martial). She turned mediocre though because of light foot bonus: +37% Lightfoot troops, +37% terrain bonus and +37% defence bonus. Before we conclude this battle, we see another even bigger nomadic host (3.700 troops) entering north-eastern Cumania!

In the meantime I derped and decided to retrieve county of Burtasy (+Minor Viceroyalty). This got rid of our Reassuring Vision modifier. Forgot about it completely. Will have to redo this setup. Permo-Siberian Patriarch does converts another Ashkenazi courtier, our Scholar-Bureaucrat dies at 53 years of age and we finish writing book. To deal with new nomadic incursion I raise levies from Osha and Tura, which provide close to 4.700 levies extra.
9ebBPAa.jpeg

Not bad but we have better. Probably won't use it due to book slot limit. Most likely won't live long enough to write another Book (Stewardship one).

We had to invite another inteligent Ashkenazi Chancellor cause old one just croaked. We redo Mordva viceroyalty, demand gavelkind from double count helding 1/3 of Mordva and other province elsewhere. Soon we get it in exchange for granting favor, which we plan to not allow to be used anyway cause we start plotting that Countess death. Another Mayor dies in July due to Cancer (50 years old) and is replaced by the same value courtier (16 stewardship).

Starting with August I redo my vision but this time we roll different category. Didn't know that those modifiers will varry depending on which option player picks. Now we got +1 diplomacy and +10% fertility. Which is fine right now. This fixes our vassal limit for now. One of our rivals dies and we get decision to make. We can end another rivalry, make new rival, end different rivalry+ get kind or do nothing. First option seems the best, cause despite Kind being nice to have (+5 vassal opinion) we don't have room for it.

October proves that we aren't fast enough as Countess cashes out her favor, taking Marshal office in our council in the process. Not biggie - we had some distant dynast Duchess perform this role anyway. Then one of our 33 years old Mayors dies (but is replaced 19 stewardship courtier that I'm not sure if I myself have placed there). Then another one bites the dust and this time it is our Ashkenazi so it is our doing. Still not happy with this sudden surge in mortality about our petite bourgeoisie.
JusMHvR.jpeg

Another tough battle against Nomads. Just in case we reinforced retinues with levies. Also 3 different Nomad models colors we have seen in quick succession.

During November both preparations for feast and fight with Nomads happen. We are lucky that enemies got narrow flank on center in which we have the fewest troops. Meanwhile our reinforced wings are winning convincingly. Thanks to our side rolling shieldwall in each part of army, we enter melee at once and in great style. We get 2 counter bonuses, absolutely slaughtering those savages. We kill over 650 enemies in single day, instantly routing both of his wings after which our bloodlusting army falls upon their army center behind narrow flank - killing 620 in another day and routing them. No new developments on Commanders though (our Teodoro got replaced by local ruler who just poped in to replace him while not providing any combat benefits =.=).

In last month of year we lose our Patriarch (replace him with Court Physician), fail at killing our Marshal and receive sad news about our Daughter Princess Mazava (who became nun) developing Great Pox. Our Court Physician after treating her, develops Renowned Physician trait (+1 Diplomacy, +2 Learning, +0.5 health and +5 General Opinion). Sadly this news de-levels our Seer modifier and removes pleasant vision. Now that I think about it - this was probably the source of that. In turn it puts us 1 vassal over the limit.

Year 1295
======================

Another Scrying gives us yet different vision (+1 Martial and +15 Personal Combat). So it is related to combat. Which we may or not do for time being. After some pondering - I could conquer another of those Nomadic remnants to the south of Bolgharia to improve Seer modifier back. Especially as alternative can maim/injure us which is far less desired option. We continue and succeed at eliminating our double Countess and after assigning some vassals, finally get under vassal limit (51/52).
BOb4yXy.jpeg

Slowly untangle those laws. Really want to get within demense limit for getting rid of -20% taxes from vassals. Instead we get -13% for being 4 vassals over the limit.

We make another Minor Viceroyalty of Komi and lower our Vassal count to 48/47, which seems to get rid of remaining tax penalty. Now we should be making cash =3... As I look for our next victim I realise it might not be so easy of a task as imagined. Most of Khaganates are Orthodox thus we can only Border dispute them for low price of 16.000 gold coins. Chernigov Khaganate has still truce with us till 1299 (and by that time we definetely will fire something out of being seer) so this leaves me with single Heretic Persian county on the border with southern Cumania. We need to reposition troops first. So let's look into technology screen:
I3CESFq.jpeg

We had just enough to max Economy Advances in capital and still get some technologies in Military and Culture.

With that our capital has 40 Military, 48 Economy (Max!) and 43 Cultural Advances. From now on all economic tech points will be saved to be spent in the future on some other county (helping getting infrastructure for quicker technology spread). So at least here we look to be on time to meet our goal.

June starts with... Peasant revolt in Votyaki (17.000 troops). Well that should do for Vision? At least it definetely didn't harm us further. So our levies are raised and commanders are presented another opportunity to prove their mettle. In just a month we gather 14.000 troops in Udmurts, with whom we can catch 5.000 detachment that ventured province to the west.
98fVZVG.jpeg

Well this is quite nice to manouver some of personal levies close by. We will absolutely dunk on them.

Quickly before battle our Marshal upgrades Teodoro by +3 and gives him Aggresive Leader (+48,7% Pursuit, +19.5% Damage and -0.5% Defence). We had one more commander upgrade few months ago giving our other Komi commander +3 Martial (already had trait - Heavy Foot Leader). Returning to topic of battle: enemy Forest advantage doesn't save them - once we enter melee we manage to kill over 1.200 of revolters in single day. We soon win but have to intervene on Silkroad too as another 800 strong nomadic force entered. Wow. They are not stopping aren't they? Sadly after concluding both fights against rebels and Nomads we do not improve any of our commanders.

For Christmass we get rulership focus event (we decide to pay 50 gold for both party to resolve issue of who has to pay noble who was robbed by locals). It misses so we get nothing out of that. Then we procure some Court Guru for gifting China.

Year 1296
======================

Did a count and we currently have 18 Genius characters in court. Which is quite a nice number given how recently we started with "Invite the Holy Men" strategy. I probably could spent even more piety to start marrying them off to all baron vassals. No marriages were to be made, just 3 kids needed deciding their education and we still have 2 Jews to convert. So we sent our gift to Chinese empire but it isn't enough to purchase either of officials that we are interested in.
BrGNbeq.jpeg

We still lack 125 Grace to get half of what we want (875 Grace atm). Won't have concubine within next 3-4 years to present either.

Given that winning revolt did nothing for our vission I decided to greenlight holy war against Persian Bogomilists in Syganak. To my suprise they have more troops that expected (~2.300) meaning our win in the field isn't so certain. Quickly I'm proven wrong to be worrying as enemies just run away from Imperial forces, letting us kill some small city vassal troops and start besieging their only county. Well works for me...
mv88Tj5.jpeg

Following the prophecy and cleaning the borders at once. Damn they really siphoned a lot of tech from us - their advances are higher than many counties in Anatolia/Italy.

Then we unexpectedly die! Well that was sudden and abrupt x]. I suppose we don't have to worry about those Scrying modifiers anymore. Most of our court was preserved (Councillors, Commanders). It's quite bad on new Emperor though - we are at 12/7 demense limit and 48/41 vassals as 4 years old. Meaning 12 years of regency. Given away some Viceroyalties in Illyinsk and Sibir (but on 2nd picked the wrong option thus my county of Tura and Osha didn't went away). Unpaused and the game crashed. Uugh I hope it saved after succession cause I have idea how to fix my current predicament to get ahead! I think it should save on succession, especially as I did unpause for few days before GeForceNow stopped cooperating.

But no. We are back to 4th January =.=... Well at least now I can pick Designated Regent in case it happens again. So I have to replay those 3+ months again :/... This time we get Stressed on 11th of January (from Rulership focus). Well timed. Some education focus go differently (worse) and we make it alive to 1st of April.

So after some time we restart war against heretical Persians, we then go towards Hills to gather some herbs for Hermetic society and we do intervene few times for our wards (have one Quick son of Mayor that got Diligent so I have hope for good Mayor). We do get stressed again so have to wait for ingredient gathering to finish to relieve it.

Year 1297
======================

With relatively chill year ahead of us, we survey the court again. We have 3 Jews awaiting conversions (32, 33 and 37 years old) so we are doing good on that front. No kid is 12 years old (meaning no education + guardians to assign) and all younger are already set, as I keep assigning it as we go (whenever we get informed about new character being born). Counted 25 kids in our court right now (breeding program going strong!), of whom 12 are Italians, 6 are Komi, 2 are Nahua and we have one of Scottish, Greek, Bodpa, Armenian and Russian. So as you can see we are doing good on pivoting towards Italian culture (especially as that change takes some time). Those efforts are bear fruits as in previous years there were few 16-19 stewardship characters acquired this way (sadly they were women who we can't gift cities; men would work better as their stats get doubled for calculating State attributes for barons). When it comes to marriages in court 13 out of 17 pairs under 40 years of age are producing Italian descendants. So our newly acquired Italian Monastic Court Tutor has easier life, assimilating only few non Italian kids. Maybe within next generation we will reach full Italian court marriages.

Time passes and our Marshal discovers another Female Commander - Chitska (23 years of age, Skilled Tactician, Hunter, 18 Martial). Well she could turn out great. We get rid of stresed trait on Emperor Zarny too. Our war against Persian Bogomilist progressess to 97% without any obstacles. Then we...
ZcmqsxS.jpeg

Well it's only fair this happened again. We are somehow slightly better equipped to deal with that (designated regent). Could swap +Stewardship +Diplomacy and +General Opinion books on Emperor Zarny to +Health ones but I preferred more taxes.

So thus ends the reign of Emperor Zarny 'the Bold'. Think it went pretty great with 3 Invention Events, extra holding slot and province modifier but most importantly - seceding western lands into new Suomi Empire. Crusade went nowhere but we still got Baptism on character we are now playing, Coronation and most likely - a long reign ahead of us. His wasn't a terribly long reign anyway - 28 years was Permo-Siberia ruled by Emperor Zarny.

So how are we lookidng on 5 years old Emperor Arnaz? Weird. We have only 1 trait (Baptized by Pope Stephanus IV) but we also have Horoscope modifier (Destinied Fighter). Honestly have no clue what will now happen to it, as the person who made it is now dead. We haven't even started encouraging/discouraging this fate so I'm curious if anything happens. We do at least have 8 Stewardship, which should force those +attribute modifiers to target Stewardship+Learning. We are still in the red - 12/9 demense and 47/43 vassal limits. First of all I procure new gift to Chinese.

After some looking we find one that will give us around 400 grace. Will have to do, as it is difficult to find better option. Most importantly it does puts us above 1.000 grace required for single Jurchen official. Well now onto decision if I want to keep playing Arnaz or do we arrange for inheritance to his Uncle (27 years of age and is already high on both Stewardship, Learning and prosperity providing traits like diligent/shrewd). As I unpause game freezes and crashes AGAIN... This is really annoying because it puts me back on Emperor Zarny... Meaning I just wasted 20 minutes spent on managing succession and if it happens again - we will have to redo it >.>. On funny note - Emperor Zarny Permyakid can probably tell us that "The news about his demise were greatly exaggerated" :V...
yEXwKmc.jpeg

One less neighbour to worry about. He no longer will be able to spawn any Nomadic hosts or adventuring bands.

So we replay those initial months, winning the holy war for Syganak and planting 18 Stewardship Orthodox Komi Count there (putting me slightly above vassal limit). We do also embark on mission to observe the sky, to which we agreed too. Soon we get first event related to "Observe the Sky" mission, in which we can upset our Hermetic friend to gain some progress, don't do this for reverse outcome and what we picked aka the third option - spent ingredient for progress.

Given we have nothing else to do I decide to embark on some brave adventure. Byzantine empire is currently embroiled in civil war and we can try to take Aral county from them. Why even bother you ask? Well this is border county that could allow us to join both southern and south-eastern counties we have to cede as single buffer kingdom (increasing it's chances of survival). Right now is great moment for that so let's try.
GNHDlW8.jpeg

Wouldn't dare if they were united, but because of Greek Civil War we are gifted an opportunity to throw them out.

By August we have freshly victorious retinues from Syganak making good siege progress on Aral. We also raised all personal and vassal troops (68.000 men!) to allow us to pick up the pace. Mayor of Akbash dies, leaving our Half-sister Elyuva a widow. We marry converted Jew to her. So we soon start fixing this.

In October Aral county is occupied (giving us 4% warscore compared to 30% warscore of Basileus in his civil war). Starting the race against the time. We also fix Akbash city setup by plopping Orthodox Ashkenazi there. Majority of our levies managed to gather so we start moving them southwards alongside Caspian sea, assaulting badly manned holdings. Retinues in meantime start opening another castle under Siege Expert Commander leadership.

Year 1298
======================

We start year with some checkup - 2 kids growed up but I wait with marrying them because in just a year or two more kids will become adults that will make marriages easier. Think we are slowly reaching the point at which we want to stop increasing amount of families. Not much sense in keeping more and more marriages when their fertility goes down. Would much rather start selective breeding for Genius trait. Two younger kids require education and guardians.
GHbmBRb.jpeg

Pushed little too far during winter so had to assault. We really weren't assaulting much till this point

Our escapade into Buzachi county was little too early. Thus despite taking over local castle, we lose 4.000 men due to attrition. Kind of suprised that down south supplies are still bad. Even though we do lose men, we are catching up with warscore - up to 42% in February (when Greek civil war goes up to 58% in the same time period).

While we await end of winter, our mission in hermetic society concludes too. It ends in success giving us 15% chance on getting Patient (that we already have) beside regular +learning modifiers and Hermetic currency. Soon after we do get another Rulership focus event decision, in which I opt to pay 50g to avoid taking opinion hit with both sides of conflict. We get lucky and it rolls for success, giving us Ambitious trait. It is our 7th trait so now we might lose something. Soon also previous Eudaimonia potion backfires so we need another fix.

Takes up to June as we carefully manage our armies to not eat uneeded attrition. We do assault few more easy to take castles and expand our carpet siege operations over all of Usturt duchy holdings. We reach 73%, overtaking Basileus who is at 71%. Doesn't take much longer for us to reach 99% warscore. Now we are in need of beating down some of their armies to not be forced into 36 months of waiting... We get an update on Prince&heir Arnaz - his horoscope goes well. He also developet Curious trait! Yay!

After some tinkering I do realize that despite 99% warscore, our enemy is willing to sue for peace. Well he might think that I will keep going from other side to his current front against his overlord, demolishing his chances of winning civil war (we don't but shhhh!). Gladly will stop my hostilities in exchange for strategically important county of Aral. So the truce is on!
eTAJ0g0.jpeg

This victory will allow creation of bigger southern Komi buffer kingdom in the future.

Suprisingly additional occassion offers itself - there is another (2nd) Civil war erupting in Byzantine empire, allowing us to take back another county this time in duchy of Itil. There is some chance that we can get 1 more county of Byzantines after this war, as due to 'Harsh exclave' game rule other (more inland) county might secede in the future, allowing us to chomp on it relatively easily. So despite racking up to -8 opinion from levies raised for too long, we pounce on this opportunity.

So as Permo-Siberian armies are marching once again towards Pontic steppe, our penalty for revoking titles without cause times out (-75 opinion is thus void). Sadly winning wars doesn't conclude our battle prophecy. Another one of Mayors also died at 60, and we need to wait half a year to arrange marriage to his teenage noble daughter.

Year 1299
======================

Another year in which we continue fighting. We should be eligible to get another "See the realm prosper" if I do cancel "Groom an Heir" ambition. Might do this after we conclude wars. We will also revoke some more holdings to feed direct Mayor Vassals with demense limit to spare more cities. Not much is happening in our court - just the usual. We do convert another Ashkenazi, just as we will need him to fix that Mayor mentioned above. Some of our troops arrived onto border between us, Suomi and Greeks. We start besieging.
WsZze9R.jpeg

Just gathered 12.000 troops and 4 times as many are still on route. Should take some time but also should be easier because with multiple civil war, ending them takes more time for AI due to requirements.

We finally press on with more troops and after siegeing out castles we assault rest of the holdings. Takes up to May but we do generate 67% warscore. Think we can pull back and disband vassal levies to start burning that opinion penalty.

With that we finally start revoking. First we finish whole duchy of Tobol as there is no longer any barony that needs to be stolen from their de jure overlords. Made sure to not appoint 2 of the counties within same duchy so the game awkardly doesn't takes it from us (as it was happening in the past). Given we had to retrieve county anyway, we click "Invite Holy Men" decision several times until we get someone decent Learning wise. Then we marry him off to some 40+ years old women, give 30 starting gold (to not let him accumulate negative province modifiers) and grant him Minor Viceroyalty of Tobol.
x1z6DWA.jpeg

My new strategy. We keep appointing heirless high learning Viceroys of Duke rank so they can keep generating technology points. Should increase our technology gain tremendously. After tech is done we can appoint high stewardship or martial value characters :)

This new strategy should more than double our technology research rate. Right now we are getting +3.2/+21.6/+8.4 points of corresponding category each month. From memory 25 points of learning is enough to generate +1 point of growth. So each of those cheap high learning holy men as Dukes will provide +1/+1/+1 monthly research. Our empire has 22 duchies not held by us. Meaning we will get extra +22/+22/+22 points of research each month. In case someone doesn't know upon death of duke whoever is his heir inherits his accumulated technology points. In this case those will go back to us. Even if some of them get used by locals it isn't bad - we actually would want especially Minor Viceroys in technology backwards areas to use them this way to speed up process of catching up. Should have been doing it since we got Imperial Administration but haven't thought of it then. What can I say - I'm still discovering new tricks in CK2 :).

Also more developments from Byzantine empire. Their whole duchy of Usturt seceded from them and Minor Viceroy in Khorasan Satrapy (with chunks of surrounding lands). This gives me another occassion to collect last county in Aral duchy (as it got seperated and will be ceded upon succession). We can also be more shrewd and target some other county in Pontic Steppe th throw Greeks even further south and away from our our borders. Alas we don't have good claim for it and I don't want to start Great Conquest for whole kingdom to only get few counties.

We continue with 2 more revocations (up to 4 = -60 opinion) as our Vision finally wears off. Nothing bad happened. We try our luck again - maybe it will be a bad omen thus handing those newly acquired holdings will upgrade our Seer modifier. Luckily we win the dice roll :). We also cancel "Groom an Heir" ambition (Prosperity isn't available in September cause we are still in war), arrange fixing of Uchva city Mayor and observe as our Viceyoy of Itil does something constructive - he border disputes some nomad ounty surrounded by our empire. Nice. His costs are definetely far lower that our 16.000 gold coins we would have to pay for that CB. Our warscore goes toward 81% so little more time is still needed. "Dishonorable" opinion penalty for failed assassinations also vanished sometime during this year.

8cWqS0p.jpeg

Useful plot to preserve in case of another Succession happening. Not interested in over 10 years of Regency (during which we will have poor chances of Prosperity Events happening).

As October passes we get notified that Emperor's half-brother (second in line of succession) Onika started plot to kill Prince Arnaz (heir). We leave it be just in cause Zarny dies abruptly - it should allow us to quickly hop onto far better ruler without having to suffer regency (He has 17 stewardship, 16 learning, level 2 stewardship education, shrewd and diligent so he can become perfect while still being only 29 years old).

November suprises with news about Empress becoming pregnant. Month later we lose our Steward (Stress) and wait for war to slowly tick towards end. Not before year change though (91% warscore for us, while his liege has only 21% in his civil war).

Year 1300
======================

Last year for this part. Will Emperor Zarny live to show us nice income values in report that will follow this post? He cheated death twice this part already... Around 200 piety is spent on generating another Genius male courtier to marry one of Italian girls in court, while other Scottish one is married to Italian lad. Soon our Viceroy eliminates targeted single county khaganate and we gladly start investing in tribe infrastructure.
e1scfv5.jpeg

Was building up Veliky-Ustug and Bilyar castles after we got them, cause they were far behind infrastructure wise. We still are gated on technology to fully bring them up to par.

We finish writing another Theorem for Hermetics for that +2 Learning modifier. Takes some time before it gets acknowledged. Have to keep doing it every few years. Less impactful than gathering ingredients but hey - extra tech income doesn't hurt. Turns out Greek rebels won't peace out on 99%, we send retinues who on route deal with another local nomadic host (800 men) violating our borders. Theodoro develops Lightfoot Leader (on top with Aggresive Leader - he would be perfect for skirmish armies), which is another "Ehh moment". Heavy Foot Leader, Defender, Unyielding - anything other than Lightfoot would be fine.

More events take place in June. First Litava Permyakid, a 4th daughter to Emperor's Zarny is born. Soon after Empress develops Pneumonia and we call in Court Physician to treat her. At this point this won't be important as we are little too old to be thinking about yet another heir and we just got most of our limits under control. We also lose Temperate trait due to being over the soft trait limit.

Through education intervention we develop stressed, that we lack 1 ingredients to heal. Which is a little mess so I decide to replace 2 copies of "On Fishing with Angle" book for Magnus Opus on Universal Panacea (+2 Learning, +1 Health) and Magnus Opus on Transmutive Alchemy (+1 Martial, +2 Stewardship, +1 Learning) to offset this dangerous situation. Probably will last around half a year till we can hunt for more ingredients again.

Last thing to mention is Tynea completing it's set of province prosperity modifiers in November:
ujitkMG.jpeg

Extra modifier last minute before report comes. Was mistaken and Hills aren't eligible for "Mines" province modifier :/... So now we only lack 2 holding slots to be done with that county

Zarny has discovered the magic power of the savescum, which enables the ability to cheat death.

If you want a shorter regency for Arnaz/greater chance of Onika bumping him off, why not make him spymaster/designated regent?

The only downside to Zarny new power is my irritation.

Good idea with helping Emperor's half-brother. The only problem - because he is part of our vassal court, we can't make him either. Still I had to admit I haven't thought of it.

Additional Comment on worldstate: So we continue after Aztecs arrived. They continue to unite Western Europe under their leadership despite some temporal setbacks due to Crusade. They do got repelled from British Isles due to huge 90.000 strong Cathar Anglo-Saxons revolters, that probably will make Catholic Irish (who colonised Scotland) and various small southern Anglo-Saxon/Welsch Catholics. Iberian penninsula slowly gets under Aztec vassals control so it's only the matter of time before they connect their French and Spanish lands. Holy Roman empire lost independence revolt for Germany. Scandinavia previously united under Paulician Norway fractured on last possible Gavelkind succession and wasn't doing too hot since then. Now they will have to contend with released by us Orthodox Suomi empire who expanded into Finland aggresively. Then lastly we have a Greek behemoth in form of Byzantine empire (over 1200 realm size) who streches from central to eastern europe, through greece and Anatolia to Persia. Most of Middle East converted to Orthodox and remnants of Muslims are getting eradicated. Out of interest we have nicely developing Orthodox Afghan, who out of single duchy created 120 realm for themself. Egypt is still Catholic and beside Aztecs having western Africa and Byzantines having lands around Tunis, we have first Mali empire in previously tribal lands (they are also Sunni!). Mongolia fractured into various small realms (featuring not longer only nomadic but also tribal and feudal goverments). Most importantly huge Tibet imploded into 3-4 interlocked kingdoms, who still recover after Black Death. Jurchen Western Protectorate didn't dare to exapnd into them yet.

Part LXV (1301-1308)

BpPa43W.jpeg

Part LXV (1301-1308)

Year 1301
======================

We start with typical court maintenance - 2 more high stewardship event generated Jews are invited to provide new targets for Orthodox conversions, 2 more kids are assigned guardians and some overlooked vassal is prepared for next revocation (ahead of time). Sadly the 'stressed' trait we took on Emperor Zarny was kind of wasted cause kid we sacrificed for during tutoring developed "Dumb" instead of Brave (we nudged him towards Brave), so even with Diligent and Patient it probably will result in mediocre character. We also visit our dungeons and release bunch of recently captured Greeks (we can't get ransom and I'm not sure, if they count for court size when it comes to fertility penalties). Also do release Duke of Vasyugan, cause he is almost 40 with no heir and all of his title would go towards some other vassal. With new arrivals we have 3 targets for Permo-Siberian Patriarch.

On 16th of February our "Out of Patience" penalty (-2 Intrigue/Diplomacy/Stewardship/Learning) expires. This fixes our demense limit (meaning +20% more income). Our retinue siege crew takes over single castle in one of Byzantine Rebelion's counties. We are right now 2 years and 4 months into war for Saray county in duchy of Itil, so expect the warscore to go finally past 99% locked value in 8 more months. Our Itil Viceroy meanwhile is up to something constructive - he is trying to acquire more CB's on remaining nomadic lands nearby. He has our full blessing as this will save us a ton of gold. Turns out it won't take so long to eradicate last nomads.
yvmbJLT.jpeg

Ok. Game wasn't obnoxious and saw the writing on the wall. Mission accomplished.

Month later we receive Greek Rebel leader plea for surrender. We accept and succesfully finalize our goal - probably taking not one but 2 counties from Eastern Roman Empire longterm. Thanks to this, we now can pick that "See the Realm prosper" ambition and start our 5 years of no wars (not counting skirmishes with Nomads).

Springs begins with one of lowborn mayors dieing and me scrambling to find lowborn replacement abroad. Takes up to May as game slowly plays forward to sort this out. Then our Duchess of Ob dies and is replaced by Italian Paulician. Which is quite an opportunity - we can revoke him after Prosperity ambition is over to sort out internal border gore in north-eastern kingdom of Cumania. Another mystery is also resolved - it was her that married one of our Italian Mercenaries (with Tibetan bloodline)!

With Autumn I spot that our commander Lavinia was widowed and because she is Strong I spent over 500 piety on generating Genius character (we got like 3-4 high learning characters for future use on Minor Viceroyalties with between 23 and 27 learning). Maybe she will birth both Strong and Genius courtier for us.

October gives me opportunity to go and gather more hermetic ingredients but I don't do this yet. Have a feeling it takes more than 2-3 weeks thus will prevent me from having double feasts this season. Really want them so we will play accordingly. Soon another Duchess in north-eastern Cumania dies and is replaced by Orthodox Ashkenazi... Hum we are getting pretty multicultural.

Alongside preparation for feasts we clean up that City of Arbuga and get the news about Emperor's daughter princess Tikshayka becoming the widow. As she is 39 years old and gave birth to 2 girls already I don't feel we need to remarry her. Our Stewards offers us to grant "Harvest Festivals" province modifier in Kudymkar for 2 years for 500+ gold. Proposition is accepted as those +15% local tax in county with 4 cities should pay for itself not counting even extra propserity points (and it was lately deleveled to 0 prosperity due to epidemy). Before end of year we perfectly stop game and click on "Organize a Feast" decision for the second time. Most importantly the December 18th was a timer for our Great Tower to begin to lean. Nothing happened so we missed this weight 2 event again I think? I'm not sure if this keeps rolling for (I hope it does), yet there are no character flags cleared if this doesn't happen. Kind of a bummer that we spend up to 6.5 yearly incomes on getting Architect and still are not awarded that rare province modifier.

Year 1302
======================

New year starts with Emperor embarking on ingredient hunt (because Feast event was already clicked so it won't matter now and we can do this in this order). To my suprise our Dumb Italian kid turns out to be Midas Touched with 16 stewardship so our effort wasn't wasted as we received useful character to administer some cities in the realm. After assigning 2 more guardians for 12 years old in court and marrying 2 fresh adults I start to keep some characters on the side for future use in Cities. At some point had to do it, cause we are not just breeding them for the sake of breeding them. One of them turned to have 21 stewardship! So we marry him off to some courts to lessen the load on our own court.

Soon the second feast comes to an end and we also collect 3 hermetic ingredients. Quite unlucky :/... Will have to be thrifty with those for Eudaimonia potions in next few years. Both our character and his apprentice had really high stewardship (30+ and 20+ respectively) so I really wanted to get those 4-5 materials. At least we get interesting news from Venice:
coZBiE5.jpeg

We didn't get any previous info of him passing so he head to travel further south I guess.

Before end of winter we do lose different Mayor (in Pilva) to which court we didn't send our recent graduatees. Well in year or two the noble daughter there will become adult thus we will marry her off. He was just 55 years old and got "bad case of flu". Still nervous as we might experience rapid wave of Mayors dying. Which would force us into losing income, if it happens because we don't have enough replacements. With cold gone, we finally can click on "Organize a Fair" for those extra +6 prosperity points in capital.

Across warmer half of year almost nothing happens. We do watch as Byzantine Empire puts down noble rebellions (but has to deal with Cracovian and African peasant rebelions), Aztecs ate half of French Kingdom (that was in the middle of civil war, after which rebels went independent as several small entities) and another Mayor died.

Was little too late (4th of November instead of 1st) with pausing thus missed magical timing for those double feasts. We get yet another Mayor to replace (up to 3) while I'm busy with replacing Steward for Bogomilist Persian county of Syganak (recently conquered). It begins as I feared...

Year 1303
======================

We enter 1303 by killing two children and inheriting county of Syganak to almost instantly give it away to new Count with 15 Stewardship and 30 gold for starting his new life as a ruler. We make single new Italian marriage (genius generated in 3 tries costing -75 piety) and have no kids to assign guardian to. After concluding this we redouble our dagger efforts onto Mayors that are occupying offices for which they are clearly unqualified.

In February our Mande Eunuch Stewards offers to grant prosperity (ambition related) province modifier. We buy it. Soon after we get "Stressed" back from Rulership focus. OOF. So we already are out of ingredients (cause with just 1 we can't make another potion of Eudaimonia). Most of those just acquired went towards fixing stress from teaching dumb Italian kid. So rough!
uFZF526.jpeg

Yes give me more prosperity progress! All of it!

Look through plots and see that our branch dynasty in Yugra Duchy (descendants from our "Heavenly" female ancestor) are plotting to kill our Emperor. Their plot power is pathetic though (35-40% with like 11 vassals). This includes most of those we retracted vassals from. Most of them are brazen enough to decline our demand to stop this unlawful act. Well just wait and see - I will use it in few years as a legal reason to revoke from you again.

Before another Summer Fair is organized we sort out 1/3 of Mayors. Some small 540 riders strong nomadic host visits Saur but they escape when I move my retinues located in adjecent province to greet them. After quick chase, thanks to having 19 Martial Organizer commander we catch them in province north - Zaysan
U6rZDLm.jpeg

We kill them in skirmish rapidly and leave just around 250 alive. Clicked through battle results by accident.

Less fortunate is next assassination. Not because of how it went but the results after succeeding. Our handpicked courtier didn't take over cause he got -100 prestige from marrying them that I failed to notice. Meaning he will never be eligible to inherit there. Sometimes it happens other times there is no problem. No idea why exactly. Still it means fixing that particular city got more difficult. New Mayor at least has 10 stewardship so he is workable. So now we have to kills that 16 stewardship Italian dumb kid we just created :/

Months pass and we get Heresy outbreak in Bolgharia despite Orthodoxy remaining at 100% Moral Authority (meaning chances for that are abysmally low...) For now I won't move Patriarch away from his current task. We also lose Aqtobe Minor Viceroy but not before he managed to sire himself a heir (meaning more child murder to retrieve the county). Takes us up to November (managed to pause on 1st November for double feast) and then we have new 15 stewardship administrator there. Should help with culture converting.
p69Fw35.jpeg

Despite Orthodxy becoming entrenched at 100% of Moral Authority we still get unlucky.

Thus on our double feast rest od Decembers ends, while more covert agents start working on getting rid of 2 out of 3 bad Mayors we had.

Year 1304
======================

This year our heir turns 12 so we can assign him proper guardian for trait development. There is hope he becomes shrewd and turns out only proper guardian is his father Emperor Zarny. With little luck we will get that Shrewd for prosperity but having diligent+patient+ambitious isn't bad either.
5FJ8hg5.jpeg

Think he got monastic bonus at least once because his intrigue is really high (10 base). With Curious, Fussy and Willful he holds great potential.

Beside him we also got one other child to decide matters of education and one marriage to strike. Having eligible female in lastly mentioned Mayor's court we just need high stewardship noble man to fix last problem. Currently we have none though.

With spring news about new Orthodox Saint goes around the world. Well color me suprised - First AI Orthodox Saint it is some Levantine Count. So the AI finally managed it. We invite one of his descendant to breed it into our dynasty ASAP. Even though his traits are quite lackluster, having extra characters generated will be nice. We can also make descendant of his bloodline in very next ruler we (probably soon will play).
iTLvbaH.jpeg

Let's check up on that "Attracts Great Theologians" for our Viceroyalty strategy. Not sure how good it is, as this Saint traits are kinda subpar to be rolling on getting them.

After starting another Summer Fair, we learn that Permo-Siberian Empress is pregnant at 39 years of age. Wow didn't expect that. What now? Another Genius male character and 15 years of regency x]? Only time will tell. Something good does happen though - spotted freshly turned 16 Italian courtier with 15 Stewardship. Thus we ship him into last City Court and begin assassination plot to fix it.

Some time later we do get good rng moment, as Prince Arnaz gets to develop his Curious trait. We can be either Patient or Shrewd. We pick Shrewd and get Shrewd. Meaning this next character seems far better now! Some other Mayor dies but as he was in city that already had our recent courtiers planted there, everything proceeds smoothly. We keep organizing Summer Fairs. Some things get complicated - we inherit Viceroyalty of Itil. Hum - there are quite a few counts here so we have to spend quite a few weeks on planting high stewardship new counts and setting everything properly (to speed up culture conversion). Takes me up to October to sort it out.
qoVRh9D.jpeg

This looks promising. With him being 13 even abrupt death of current Emperor won't pose much of a threat.

Our vassals manage to consolidate more titles under single character. Talking about Count of Yaik, that is on our "to do" list for the near future. We send our Permo-Siberian Patriarch and Marshal to deal with heretic province (convert&supress revolts) alongside receiving news about one of our vassals rebelling against their Italian heretic overlord. Maybe we won't have to deal with that ourself? After giving out both Aqtobe and Itil minor Viceroyalties we once again try to start extracting Mari minor Viceroyalty (had to stop every time something else was popping off).

We miss 1st November for double feast but at the very least get another daughter (Nyv Permyakid) in December. No Genius or Quick. At the very minimum with that we get yet another chance of turning some lowborn city court into highborns.

Year 1305
======================

Another peaceful year aheads of us. After assigning 2 more guardians for 12 years old, we invite another 2 high stewardship Ashkenazis (cause we have ran out of them, leaving only our Chancellor). Then we proceed with China business. Given that our 2nd daughter Tikshayka is a 42 years widow and current Jurchen Emperor likes concubines I see no reason to not sent her to his harem. We won't benefit from her anymore and we would really like to have that Scholar-Bureacrat again. So offs she goes
isxpTUX.jpeg

Finally we get to pick another Jurchen official. Good use of our daughter too.

From February we start assassinating Minor Viceroy of Mari to inherit his titles and place our own high learning courtier as replacement. Things do not proceed as planned because somehow the counties go towards someone else. Thus I don't think I also inherited technology points (and I had my technology screen open after assassination was confirmed to go through). What's worse, Hlynov county went under Viceroy of Mordva (double count >.>) so we have our hands full with trying to fix it.

As we proceed with killings, our Emperor starts developing symptoms (Fatigue). We quickly get proper treatment so the bonus to health is higher than penalty. As we spend time with Summer Fair nothing else happens till August. When we lose this symptom so I'm not sure what that was about - lucky roll so it didn't develop into proper sickness?

In September I start getting creative. Instead of killing through succession list for Hlynov county, why not just plot to revoke it via Intrigue menu? This would save us a hassle and bad feelings. Soon we get up to required plot power and send our demand. AI manages to call my bluff, as still we can't go to war (and this would count for breaking prosperity ambition) so we get -10 opinion penalty from vassals (plotters) for being coward. Nothing that stops us from restarting this plot though. We will push it year later!
qccPhkv.jpeg

Often forget about this tool for revoking counties. Not this time.

For time being we have to fix Mayor of Cherdyn (lowborn). We don't currently have any of daughters/granddaughters on hand to fix it so we will send lowborn high stewardship women first and then match her with high stewardship lowborn man. With end of October Veliky-Ustug finishes another structure (Barracks) so we are well on our way to catch up with rest of our castles, as our steward placed there is furiously spreading the technology.
FvAHutb.jpeg

We are rapidly building up this place. Soon we will be technology blocked sadly. Despite our Steward best efforts on increasing economic advances spread into this county.

Manage to pause on 1st November so double feast it is. Just as we are about to fix Cherdyn, city of Posa loses it's 43 years old Mayor, that died of poor health with no visible negative health traits. Which is the opposite of nice. Some would even dare to say - not very nice. Like cmon dudes. We need you to not keep on dying within 10 years of granting that office. Luckily one of our court kids just turned into total monster with 22 Stewardship at 16 years of age. So we marry him to 42 years old noble woman there with 21 stewardship. Oh yes they will have a nice bonus to tax (55 State Stewardship meaning around multiplicative +110% income bonus).

Sadly turns out because I clicked at probably last moment of 1st day of November, the Feast didn't end before year changed. At least we got endorsed on our theorem paper in Hermetic society, keeping our Learning high (35).

Year 1306
======================

Final year of prosperity ambition starts. We get 3 children to educate properly, 1 marriage to make and count my gold carefully. Think we have enough for another empire-wide healthcare investment. Look and behold:
u1UmiWG.jpeg

This is eye watering amount of gold spent. What's worse each further level will cost twice as much... At least I confirmed that our -construction cost modifiers do work on it (there is just some UI display bugs with prices in holding menu; perhaps those are prices for province owners?).

With that we are once again in just 4 digit number for our gold reserve =3"... This will provide at base 30% Disease resistance in every county and Major protection from depopulation. So now no longer it is possible to get into negative Disease Resistance value by increasing prosperity (max -20% will leave with +10% DS.). After another succesful assassination something gets buggy, as city of Cherdyn court gets nuked (and we had few characters there) thus our efforts result in nothing. At least by 9th of March we are done with our prosperity ambition. Decide to pick "Groom an heir" to introduce Prince Arnaz to our vassals for some opinion bonus. So the tour begins!
w7gqn5Z.jpeg

Rarely do I bother with this but why not. The whole thing goes quite evenly in how many vassal get positive and negative opinion modifiers for 20 years. We do have over 100 direct vassals to go through so it will take a while...

April kills another of our handpicked stewards - this time 45 year old died from flue >.> Luckily replacement (37) was already there and ready. But we can't keep going like this, losing them before not even 60 but 50 years of age... We do manage to clean up City of Posha in the end. One of our character friends dies, which presents occassion for becoming depressed. I don't think I will allow Zarny to become unhappy yet. If it happened a year later then perhaps. But for now I really want to let Emperor's Zarny to oversee his son education so no regency happens.

We also get intervention for Arnaz (making him diligent). Sadly his potential ambitious turned into Stubborn (-1 Diplomacy, +1 Stewardship, -5 Vassal opinion). He still has fussy (potentially Patient) but we could get more out of this future character. Still atm he heas 12 Stewardship/Intrigue/Learning with 8 in Diplomacy and Martial, which ain't bad.

Another Mayor of Cherdyn dies, and once again his court gets nuked =.=... Something is bugged out. As I offer more of my attention towards fixing this issue, we inherit Viceroyalty of Itil and as we were in the middle of revoking counties in duchy of Ubagan (to refresh Seer modifier and extract local city) we find ourself in quite a mess - 15/12 demense. Takes me up to 5 revocations both here and in Mari (to finally sort this out) so with -75 vassal opinion we have to live. On the plus side additional city and bishropic were included into our network and new Viceroy of Ubagan and Mari are set up properly with high learning characters. Found finally usage for 40+ old women from city courts - they will make for fantastic marriage material for viceroys (as they can have those 35-38 years too).

Still managed to make those double feasts happen! Not sure if because I did bunch of other things but those intruductions to vassals pop ups stopped happening way before hitting anywhere close to all of our 100+ vassals.
PWmaxFd.jpeg

Spotted quite rare combination of modifiers on one of our courtiers. Guess due to 'possessed' trait in combination with 'Pet Cat' modifier? One of participants of Genius breeding program.

Year 1307
======================

Year 1307 begins stressfully - our Prince Arnaz got Diarrhea. Please don't turn into Dysyntery. We have this succession almost figured out (our ruler is 65 years old and heir 15 which is such a good setup). Soon our Court Physician provides him good symptom treatment (+2 health) which more than offsets his -1 from symptom. I also decide to give him one of our +health granting artifacts (but can't give him Magnum Opus cause it needs 25 learning. It's also high time to start locking down most of our court (to avoid losing crucial characters). We are also continuing on 4th final assassination of Mayor in Cherdyn. Let's this be the last one...

Finally we manage just that. Thus restoring state in which we have no over the demense limit Mayors (Bishops are different topic alltogether as we are still chilling with 5 such cases; but I won't start dealing with them until more seperate temples are not included into our network -> the less single holding bishops in realm, the less possible courts ergo higher chances of our candidates ending where we want them).
tsG2BAb.jpeg

Oh no, no, no, no... Quick read on Chinese medicine!

By March sickness of Permo-Siberian heir turns out to be just a regular Flu. Which gets treated succesfully and we even get an option to increase opinion of Arnaz of everyone in our Court! Soon we also conclude another ingredient gathering (this time we get 5 new items, so we spend 1 on good vision to get +1 Martial and +15 Personal combat).

Decide not to heal stressed. We are about time to pass the torch so between stressed and unequipping Magnus Opus with +health bonus later we should be able to arrange for swift succession.

Months pass and by summer Komi Viceroyalty goes back to us. We give it to one of double counts (with extra holding south of Bolgharia), which puts me exactly at 43/48 vassal limit. Allowing me to pass another Centralization reform.
3S0lRGd.jpeg

One more holding in reserve. With one more such change we should become able to start reintroducing Council voting to further increase our vassal limit.

As I unpause I immedietely see this day after on 15th of August :
mNRoDmN.jpeg

Old Emperor Zarny finally leaves the scene. Almost perfectly timed x] For once description is accurate. Third time the charm.

Ok that's a little early but barely misses the mark. So thus 38 years of Emperor Zarny reign ends. Managed to upgrade hospitals across empire twice (after many big epidemies of XIII century), located 2 cities in Tynea, participated in 3 gatherings of great minds and finished building Great Tower (Architect lifestyle). On top of that did some legal reforms by reintroducing again system of Ducal Viceroyalties, full gender equality and starting the process of Centralization of power. Improved our in court education through introducing Italian monastic tutor. All that was possible cause he finalized last phases of seceding western kingdoms (Nenetsia, Novgorod, Vladimir, Cheremisia and Rus) into new sibling Komi Empire of Suomi. Which also required winning a medium sized civil war. Major task that we were failing to complete for centuries. Started expanding south to further eliminate nomadic cultures and oportunistically took some lands from Greek empire. His venture into Crusading business ended in failure - his idea of great holy war for Hindu kingdom of Rajputana in India failed to enlist interest, thus he didn't benefit from riches of western Christians. Still he ended with recognition of Catholic Pope and baptised his son and heir, who turned fantastic and whose reign just begins.

Situation ain't so bad - with previously picked regent we have right now 12/10 demense limit, 43/39 vassal limit with around month remaining for regency to end. Sadly county of Bandja and some county conquered by our vassals in Mongolia reverted to their nomadic roots. More of a problem is 80% strong faction wanting our kin Count Zhebeg of Illyinsk for Emperor. Some switching of books we have equipped occurs: 3x On Fishing with Angle (+1 diplomacy, +1 stewardship, +5 general opinion) are equipped. Also few bribes are sent and both chancellor and spymaster travel to Tarbagatai to convince Duke located there to stop backing our kin faction.

Last Catholic ruler in duchy of Komi, dies of severe stress (what a moment - she survived till another Catholic Emperor took over). Some time passes calmly and soon the Regency is over:
IrJi7AY.jpeg

We get all that we wanted - level 4 Stewardship education, patient and for some reason also Greedy. What a monster!

This fixes our demense problems at once. We still have some issues with diplomacy but can't do everything at once. Still we rock pretty great character for prosperity as well

==================================
Emperor Arnaz MTTH for Prosperity Events
==================================

Midas Touched - 0,9x
Shrewd - 0,9x
Diligent - 0,9x
18+ Stewardship - 0,729
18+ Learning - 0,729

New Holding Slot - 22,66 years
Province Modifier - 15,69 years
==================================

Almost perfect prosperity leader (we just lack lifestyle) with long life ahead of him (I expect 50+ years). That said can I de-age myself? Out of curiosity decided to check. Turns out not - we need to be be at least 18 years old. Would be probably messy re-enacting regency and growing up. Still with fountain of youth we are looking at possibly 60+ years of ruling. This gives me room to manouver with various focuses and tasks. For example we will start composing book ASAP but will pick anything other than Stewardship. This way we don't get cheated later after we acquire proper Commander traits before trying to write "On Komi Architecture" book. We also send our Mother - Empress Dowager Berhanoush Nuraddin to China ("Bye Mom!"), together with freshly invited high skilled Guru from India. In exchange we procure Master Engineer. We obviously start Coronation ASAP (only reason for which we are still Catholic).
b2t54aK.jpeg

Again cooldown for 20 years start ticking but we have both officials.

Soon we get answer from Pope and he sadly wants us to declare war for independent bishopric of San Severino (which as tested previously is bugged). So it instantly ends inconclusively and we wait for another attempt. We really want to just pay for it. No wars, not tinkering with investiture or giving away several counties to Holy Orders. C'mon Pope Eugenius VII 'the Tormentor"! Be charitable God dammit! When it comes to book we weren't offered Stewardship topic (so we made the right decision) and given all other topics I go with Diplomacy/Intrigue focused relationship genre. Not only both Chancellor and Spymaster being more skilled will be able to help us to improve quality, there is also Quality 3 book "Contract of the Komi" that would give us +1 stewardship and -2.5% build cost. Better than nothing. It's not like we have already all 4 book slots filled with book givins us -10% building cost to have any room for complaining.

Thought some time about which focus to pick. We can do a lot but still think getting that Architect early is the right move. So we get another perfect prosperity ruler going. Other options included Theology (for extra +5 opinion from being Pilgrim), Rulership (hoping for Ambitious, Just, Administrator modifier), Scholarship (quick Observatory chain for military technology), Carousing (to start picking off friends with young Mayors to push some crazy revocations later without having to worry about taxes). We obviously also opt to join Hermetics to start getting chances for Laboratory event chain (and then - Invention event chains).

After joining Hermetics "make a friend" ambition is selected and from the list I start befriending 19 years old Komi member with Content (not ambitious so should be easier to sway for our needs). Once we make friend for Invention event chain, we also will get permament +1 diplomacy and +2 diplomacy for time being, which will help with vassal limit. Our new Master Engineer constructs 'Administrative Outpost' in Perm (modifier +1 economic and cultural technology points income). Young Emperor also gets his first kill on his account as lowborn Mayor of Postol dies to make room for our handpicked Ashkenazi candidate.

Year 1308
======================

First full year of Emperor Arnaz reign begins. Council and some vassals are still cranky. We have just single 12 year old to assign educator but 4-5 kids are 15 so we will get a bunch of new courtiers next year. Don't have Realm Priest right now (Catholic can't pick Orthodox to continue conversions), so no need for Ashkenazis. Let's just hope this Coronation goes relatively quickly or we will be struggling with finding replacements.

In February Mayor of Karlutka dies, leaving both Permyakid daughters there (our Cousins). We manage to marry one of them to 13 stewardship lowborn that was the last male character available for us and started extraction (aka Assassins). We get event regarding eating (choice between Gluttonous and Temperate trait) and we are right now Temperate. Better than nothing but I would rather preserve this trait slot for something else rather than gambling with other traits in the future. Our smart spymaster offered us either +10% plot power or +10% arrest chance till end of March of 1309 (+6 prosperity points in capital too). We picked arrest chance.

On March 9th we are repeating our plea for Coronation. Some time after we receive response and Pope concurs (that bribe surely did help ;)). By paying just 400g we are really lucky as it took us just 2 tries. Also our Spymaster made Duke of Tarbagatai leave faction supporting Count Zhebeg, which dropped their power by 20%. (from 80% to 60%).
F5Tr7u6.jpeg

We get what we wanted. Still don't think I saw everything that can happen during. We got high martial character at least that will convert to Orthodoxy right after.

The whole thing didn't go as planned. You see as it ended I paused and converted back to Orthodoxy. Big mistake ^^". Should have let few days pass, because game didn't fully ended this event chain. Thus as I converted to Orthodoxy we lost our Coronation trait >.>... No wait. We still have Coronation trait. We lost Baptism trait :x... But the message told me that I no longer need Church for crown. So we upgraded from Baptism somewhat. Well will have to check if baptism traits are Catholic exclusive...

September presents us first military hurdle thrown our way - Khazarian indepedence revolt:
tzPNWRt.jpeg

Well that was to be expected. We just converted 2 out of many khazarian counties

Nothing other to do than to raise our personal levies (32.000) and march to contest them. Soon (27th October) our Marshal organizes massive recruitment drive in Perm (was sent there to increase our levies against factions once we took over) meaning both more troops and +6 prosperity points. Well won't complain about extra prosperity. Our Permo-Siberian Patriarch soon joins him and tries to convert remaining Ashkenazi courtier after dealing with heretic Bolgharian province.

Before end of year rebels take most of counties (but not the one in which they started) and I catch that another county there (Itil) just converted to Komi culture. We get that +2 Learning from published Theorem being approved in Hermetic society (which puts us at 26 - enough for requiping any Magnus Opus) and decline mission to go look for some ancient text (costs a ton and we don't really want small tech spread for high costs). With that and big hopes for future this is for this week!

Despite Orthodxy becoming entrenched at 100% of Moral Authority we still get unlucky.
Not unlucky, the fact there's a second character on the right of the event means it was done by a Satanist event (Source: Experience playing Satanists, and a mod I use lets me see if AI characters are in secret societies), if it was a simple moral authority thing only your character would be shown. And he's not even in your realm (that shield is of a Byzantine vassal mercenary company).

Part LXVI (1309-1316)

bEOpLqi.jpeg

Part LXVI (1309-1316)

Year 1309
======================

As winter goes on, we gather more and more of our forces in Syrt before moving out against enemies. Letting snow melt is beneficial as the current theater of war has only around 15.000 supplies per province. We stockpile on courtiers in capital for time being. Thanks to some bribes and favors we manage to invite one of our burgher Cousins back to Imperial court. This will provide another chance of fixing yet other lowborn city setup. The number of kids growing up in Perm also went down to 16. Perhaps we are finally hitting those limits and reaching plateau?

Thanks to some assassination we fix one Catholic city court and now characters of our own - Permyakid dynasty will start popping off there. We also get 2 interesting character developing events - Orthodox Icon (Learning variant) and (to my suprise) Horoscope update with 5 years more on modifier.
6JSeiPl.jpeg

Gladly will take those to eliminate events from possible pool. Nice to know Horoscope continues despite maker no longer living.

Have to wait till May to start moving onto Khazarian uprisers. We manage to assemble 34.000 troops and send 3 commanders with room to improve (Schochynava with 21 Martial/Heavy Foot Leader, Azra-Va with 19 Martial/Organiser+Cruel, Guigliadore Nieddu with 16 martial /Skilled Tactician+Cruel). After retaking Lower Volga we move onto 7.000 strong rebel detachment province to the south - Yeruslan. We do catch them in June while, rest of enemies are further east.
ExQOQKg.jpeg

Enemy is commander-less. Ha! Maybe it lures rest of enemies to help their comrades in arms? Preferably once we deep in melee.

The battle is brief - we quickly crush them so other Khazarian armies don't even try to reinforce. It's pretty one-sided too if you look at result. The supplies remain bad even after retaking local holding (that had only 200 defenders). So we either have to break down our army or move onto enemies ASAP. Decided for second option given we do have +movement speed bonus on one of Commanders. Still 2-3.000 men are lost due to attrition. For that price we do catch another 7.000 enemies in Ryn, who try to defend behind river.
yVtnqCm.jpeg

Another easy battle ahead! There are still plenty of enemies in vicinity so we stay on our toes.

Enemies don't take the bait. Still that's just prolongs their suffering as we will kill their armies 1 by 1. After Chapaev our Italian Commander Guigliadore Nieddu finally develops combat bonus - Unyielding (+36% Morale Defence, +18% Defence). Not bad especially in combination with his bonus morale damage from Cruel.
DKA7FwZ.jpeg

This time enemies counter us but it matters little with such overwhelmin advantage. Melee counter tactics are scary though.

Sadly remnants of Khazarian army evacuated towards west, while we were busy killing previous army. So even after squashing most of their army we can't conclude this rebellion yet. Instead we have to move 3 province back towards where we came from initially. Back in capital, our Emperor reaches 18 years of age so he can (and do) use Fountain of Youth to de-age himself (-2 years). So more attrition is sustained but not enough to endanger the fate of this revolt - on October we engage for the last time with Khazars.
P4XeQgU.jpeg

Finally enemy commander. Not that he can do much wiht 3/4 of his forces dead before battle began.

With that we end this major national uprising on 1st of November. Takes up to 2nd to make Feast eligible for us (meaning no double feast trick), so we celebrate it. Levies are disbanded and retinue are coming back to Burtasy. The only problem is that due rebels taking over quite a few provinces - we got higher revolt risk for a year (up to 9.5% yearly risk). Despite -8% RR from modifier after crushing one. We finish building Keeps V in both Veliky Ustug, Bilyar and Tura. One of our Ashkenazis gets converted too. Noticed that another county in Khazarian region just culture converted within a month of being able to. Then to my suprise we get to get that 2nd feast going.

Year 1310
======================

Just one courtier grew up this year. Decided to spent some time on arranging marriages and I did find one city court to send our recently Orthodoxified Jew. Also repositioned our Marshal to Kolva to start building prosperity there. Given opportunity I do bethroth our Emperor to Princess Maria of Byzantine Empire (8 years old sister to 3 years older Basileus so right now she is the heir to Greek empire). Mostly did it for potential military alliance in the future against Aztecs and well - while she probably won't turn wonderfully I hope she at least will get some extra diplomacy.
6WrTKUD.jpeg

Alliance in the making. Assuming they manage to keep their power. Also sister princess proving herself valuable asset.

In April Marshal triggers recruitment drive in Kolva, so we get those +6 prosperity points. We embark also on another intrigue - we use plot for revoking county of Ural. Before we get to trigger it - our Nun sister offers to go and pay a diplomatic visit to Qi Empire. Given that she is 51 and has Great Pox I give her my blessing. Any extra grace is always welcomed. We also manage to push through enough plot power to send our demands for Ural county. Triple count of Qazan refuses so the war it is. Don't mind it, as I really need to reduce number of vassals we currently have. Despite what wiki claims the penalty is not proportional as being 10% over the limit (43/39) we are incurring 20% vassal tax penalty. Also this is tyranny free for us and will allow us to get more in one go. Perm also reaches final prosperity level (after that last double feast) giving us close to one thousand province wealth (990.9 at the moment).
NJAb0iI.jpeg

Welp some prosperity due to siegeing might be lost. I wonder if not parking my army on top of his counties made him refuse.

As our levies move to contest enemy army, we get update on our book writing. Improvment either due to taking 43% Wounded, 5% Maimed, 1% Dying or Vomitting. We take vomitting, which gets healed almost instantly (even before "decent symptom treatment" can get assigned) so this was good choice. Checked prosperity levels (as we really don't want to ruin it but have also no choice, now tht Qazan count has revolted). Personally think we can get away by just taking Ural (as this war is to revoke Ural) and beating down his armies. Will take longer but beggars can't be choosers. This way his both Qazanian provinces with level 3 prosperity should not lose anything.
Zog0Aco.jpeg

Turns out this Count has around 1.000 gold and hired another 4.800 mercenaries. Oh my...

Battle goes well and Guigliadore develops "Flat Terrain Expert". So now he really came through and shines as star :). Still he can get extra Martial education upgrade, that would make him one of the best commanders we have. Soon our army moves to deal with Mercenary Sami Band (employed by Qazan rebel), we get option to preserve Trade Route (don't use it as we want to make another trade route for event soon'ish). Then we patrol Qazan alongside Kama river to beat back and forth remaining armies of Qazan.

By November with taking over Ural (That had 0 prosperity level) we manage to accumulate 75% warscore. Sadly 2 Mayors die quickly one after the other and we don't have anyone to fix that on hands. We also get to sold castle land in Perm for that first "Trader" modifier and advance to 2nd rank (Initiate: unlocking Scrying and potion of Eudaimonia) within Hermetic Society.

Year 1311
======================

This year we have 2 kids to assign educators to. One of them seems destined to be good Commander (2 positive childhood traits for Martial education) so we start making replacement. From time to time we can afford to make some bad Stewardship kids into good Commanders I guess. Beside that we pursue Qazanian army only to eat terrible suprise attrition in Mari (dotn to 7.700 from 11.400 troops). Enemy did take casualties too, so it isn't so bad. Soon our half-sister returns from China giving us additional 200 grace. We do catch Noble rebel army again:
pQdqzBU.jpeg

By March we catch up remaining rebelious army. Pursuing them to prevent them from any devastation is important. Extra Warscore also doens't hurt.

Battle unexpectedly goes hard for one of our wings (with our best commander) due to enemies countering his tactics. It even rapidly enters melee but as I wasn't expecting it I missed time to make screenshot. Still we win, which concluded this war. Chancellor provides us +50 cultural tech points due to his Jewish connections across world.

Some administrive works follows and I get little overconfident: to my suprise huge noble revolt erupts against my 2nd revocation without just cause. Enemies do outnumber us x]... OOops!
pgwhjYr.jpeg

Accident. We have problems now. If we win this, we will get huge number of revocations though.

Whole Summer and some of Autumn (up to October) is spent on frantically mustering our troops. As we weren't expecting this, quite a few of our smaller loyalist armies get isolated and obliterated while trying to reach muster points. We have advantage in initial morale so I do some moves but also lose in other places. We manage to go onto revolt leader capital in Qazan. We also do beat his initial army and then we defend against his mercenaries. Shortage of Commanders is crippling as several fights happen at once:
kwlUDGP.jpeg

First major battle of civil war. Those are tricky as we haven't time to fully mobilise so they can't snowball quickly into giving advantage to one side of conflict.

With first win under our belt we continue carefully manouvering troops. Generally we slowly win in western part of Empire but can't oppose multiple enemies east of Ural mountains. We slowly chomp on their armies to reach parity in numbers yet because we don't assault anything they slowly get warscore towards end of year. Might be an issue. That's why we spent valuable time on 2 of our armies in the west on siegeing rebel holdings.

Year 1312
======================

Ayayaya! What did I thrown myself into. We besiege both of rebelion's leader holdings and frost slowly gnaws at enemies that keeps on eating those attrition penalties. It's somewhat funny as even AI isn't able to cope with that enviroment (and it would have much easier time micromanaging armies given it probably always views supply numbers). Some of my relief forces sent before end of year across Ural mountains find themself trapped with twice stronger enemies incoming. Let's hope retreating retinues and eastern troops (9.000) will help our 4.000 in Tobol duchy repel 9.000 enemies.
sgCVHwo.jpeg

West is mostly under control. Eastern half is where the concerns is - they already sieged some cities damaging prosperity.

Sadly turns out to not be the case despite securing narrow flank on center, our commander got himself terribly countered by enemy pikes, and 1/3 of that force got obliterated. Well seems we have now to escape west and regroup, while Winter still rages on. Yet enemies pursue us into Ural to block exit for our 9.000 strong army of East evacuating to safety. So I throw my 19.000 levies in Perm to rescue them under Azra-Ava. It's race against time - will we reinforce sooner with our 19.000 or enemies with 12.000?
dgoKjn6.jpeg

Few days after beggining we receive reinforcements so it is mostly 28.7k vs 9.3k troops in skirmish phase. Suprised at such great results despite getting countered.

Enemy gave up and didn't reinforce with his 12.000 troops. Huge mistake as we got terribly countered in center so the battle could be up in the air if he comitted. Without assistance we did win convincingly thus created numbers advantage of soldiers in this conflict (49.000 vs 42.000 troops now). We also took over their leader's holdings, so we no longer suffer penalty to warscore and reversed it to +6%. We have to eat some attrition so I decide to dash troops towards those 12.000 enemies parked in the next province. We lose 4.000 troops due to lack of supplies but still fall onto unsuspecting enemies (no commanders are present). Think it was worth it:
2EEzOSN.jpeg

Another huge engagments, providing us with opportunity for more warscore.

With that we are securing advantage in war. We did lost our best commander though, which stings. Think this is the first time in this playthrough. The result screen shows 2, but the second died of old age (79 years old Scottish Orthodox Crusader and Christian Knight that was with us for over half the century) yet the game listed him as combat casualty. Enemy does send more troops in the region and soon after we manage to kill 2.000 more. Before winter arrives the manouvering battle for supplies begins and our side by playing safe comes on top by securing best winter quarters in county of Tobol (up to 23.62 thousand troops). Our enemies on other hand losses over 5.000 troops to supply issues but his other 15.000 army comes close (to also eat Siberian attrition) so I don't give them the battle. We chill for now as another 17.000 troops march south of Ural to help us. There is no negotiating with local weather I'm afraid. Patience wins the days.

Year 1313
======================

Appointed our 'Great Warrior' from coronation as he has 25 Martial and Brave to help us with fighting. With that we are up to 6/8 commanders employed. We do get a 22 Stewardship Italian women that I definetely will use after civil war to great effect somewhere. Right now we are looking at 32% of warscore. We do get some Clergy related event in Bolgharia that I'll gladly take.
vgb4Kel.jpeg

Gladly will take it for decade. This revolt risk should be within reductions provided by both culture and religion matching in province. Not seen this before. Also preparation for renewing fighting in Tobol.

When it comes to Civil war, our enemies made deadly mistake - they didn't retreat to winter and as it was harsh out of their 30.000 troops only 9.500 remains. As we were patiently waiting for colds to pass, we not only didn't lose as many men, but also replenished few and allowed 10.000 troops from Perm to join us. Thus overall balance of power in this war skewed even heavier towards us - 47.000 loyalist vs 11.000 rebels. Their initial rebelion leader also died and got succeeded by his not even teenager son.

With May we start moving to finally deal finishing blow to remains of noble rebels. We retake holding in Vagay and start moving to do the same for lost holdin in Sibir. With little luck we might not be needed to inflict further devastation across rebel lands by just holding few places and beating their armies. Over and over.
CtgtAeL.jpeg

Last Major battle I guess. They really squandared their advantage in numbers.

For five days we are fighting evenly but then 19.000 reinforcements joins loyalist side and we start taking over this battle. Melee is especially brutal, as their center runs day before this phase and their right charges, getting terribly countered by our center and left thus losing 2.000 men on single day (80% of that wings). We slowly keep getting that warscore.

After that we split our armies into smaller ones to start marching them towards various parts of Eastern empire. Takes up to June for Marshal to fire extra recruitment in Kolva (+6 prosperity). He ain't done yet - he proposes some military experiment in August. As we appoint him for his diligent trait it can be extra military tech points, thus we give him little gold to pursue his ideas. We spent time repositioning and slowly siegeing out few captured provinces by noble rebels to deny them ticking warscore. Soon we get results from Martial and it turns bad (we lose some technology points!). Little perplexed by this I do check his character screen and well while he still is diligent, he also became lunatic sometime between his appointment and now. Probably due to that we got what we got.

By December we catch somewhat replenished force of rebels (7.000) south. They came back from rout and as they were in enemy held lands they kept on getting reinforcements. Thankfully I had one bigger army trailing them, so we can quickly interupt their siege attempts. Have to do it soon too - they can quickly outnumber us.
CeE9s9z.jpeg

Content with our commanders performing up to task. This might be an issue as they still have close to 50.000 maximum army capacity so we need to keep squashing them. We also lost another commander due to old age. Didn't even know he was there probably as he was attached to single unit under main commander.

Year 1314
======================

Battle rages on till February and doesn't provide much warscore. Hmm... We are still long ways before we can enforce demands on other side. As our troops finally repositioned we can start about next move. Probably should move deep into enemy territory to retake some lost holdings in Tarbagatai (by the Silkroad). Local duke there is also the owner of last of rebel side armies that can siege loyalist holdings so I would love to prevent them from doing just that. Arranging it is somewhat tricky because not only we have long way to travel but also do this in Siberian realities.

We do get some not war related news too:
GsFB7fG.jpeg

Well that's somewhat record time book composing. We got Quality4 too, which is not too shabby with all different obnuses. Not what we wanted though (forgot that we shouldn't increase the quality of book x3").

With that we are now certain to start our Stewardship book in 1334. Before that we aim to have Architect and Organiser traits. That is doable as we are already somewhat started on that Architect lifestyle trait side of things and given on average 10 years per focus it is quite probable we will get Organiser trait. Beside that few months later we get also this pop-up from our Court Physician:
CUjDqFJ.jpeg

Just glanced on this event and picked first option (which is really bad). Thought it was one of those options that lets Court Physician develop "Diligent". Welp...

I didn't notice it at the time so it will take me some time to realize what terrible decision did I made. Not that this stressed trait was an issue. Will notice it before end of that part. More on that - later.

When it comes to rest of the year on the front - we are slowly siegeing. Takes a while thanks to all siege technology levels we shared across many of those provinces. Can't assault and our single Siege expert doesn't helps much either. We can't even bring big armies either due to low supplies. We really are a durable realm, that takes a good while to chomp. Yet the ticking Warscore reach 90% in December. Enemies once again resurface with close to 8.000 men. It won't become a problem as they decided to winter in badly supplied province, which basically stops their replenishment. Our expedition makes it to Tarbagatai but shrewd duke of those lands just disbanded his armies after getting only little "roughed up". So we start sieges.

There is little to be said about recently made bethrothal for future alliance with Eastern Roman Empire. It's now obsolete as Basileus lost against Usurper (somewhat related to our family as he has claim on Permo-Siberian empire). So we break this engagment. This isn't the worst though - due to civil war sheningans some parts of Greek empire became independent. So now we have another Greek Empire in Carpathia! Which not only holds lands in Carpathia but also in Persia (that will most likely secede next chance they get). This complicates future alliances somewhat as from dominant powers, either of Greek empires mostly matches Aztec empire right now. On the plus side - Suomi will have easier time retaking their de jure empire lands. We do have to start taking into consideration Aztec dominating Europe completely as ERE no longer will work as natural barrier for them. Carpathia will weaken upon their next succession and become another Aztec victim (unless their Orthodox brethren help them).

Year 1315
======================

Boy do I not like huge civil wars. They take so much of my attention that I don't have any to spare on other tasks. Well we at least keep our court somehow managed. Few cities fell into bad administration so 3 more Jews were invited. That's it for civil matters as we again have to engage enemies:
oaXlmCq.jpeg

Enemies retook Sibir and we couldn't have it. We get really bloody battle due to getting terribly countered by bot of their army wings.

Despite numerous victories in field we still don't have 100% warscore. One irritating thing that I noticed - whenever they retake any holding they receive warscore value as if they holded it since the beggining. This is so unfair and gives them huge opportunity to prolong this conflict. Somewhat ticks me off. So we have to diligently keep beating them down. That's like one of big problems of this Civil war - we don't want to ruin prosperity so we avoid siegeing out. Which results in them being able to keep replenishing their army over and over. While few holdings we took are really slowly generating warscore for us.

Another problem was with that expedition to retake holdings deep into rebellion lands. Some of objectives were achieved and we retreated into good winters quarters in time. Only to notice Duke of Tarbagatai raising his troops and instantly taking back those baronies we just liberated x]. After which he disbanded them thus completely erasing our progress. Forcing us to repeat whole process after end of winder. So between "immortal" rebel army and that I have my work cut out for myself.

Business focus at least gives back. After losing trade route in capital, our Steward finally proposes new trade expedition. We really want that. Education upgrade is not possible but, if we get friend it would fulfill our ambition (giving us extra diplomacy). In the background I was swaying one member of Hermetic society that we would love to invite to our own "Gatherings of Great Minds" event but despite few years of mostly positive outcomes we didn't turn him into friend. I'm not familiar with that mechanic in depth and when I dwell on this topic, it becomes somewhat funny. Yes I had 800h put into this playthrough since the time I bought last batch of CK2 DLC. Yet this is like 2nd-3rd playthrough with Holy Fury on for me xD. Will probably check between sessions how this works out and if this is even possible but wanted to share this tidbit. Coming back to Trade route though:
KwwoDFM.jpeg

We missed getting friend :/ Rest is just the usual. Welp

Sadly we don't strike true "gold". At the very least we are now eligible for Architect/Gardener lifestyle event chains. With civil war sluggishly coming to an end we also can find ourself in situation where our income will drop down to 500g per annum while expensive Architect event steps fire (this can cost up to 6.5 times our annual income for what we want).

In November I finally realize mistake with Court Physician treatment. I'm not too happy with my previous choices to say the least. We basically lowered our chances of those prosperity event holding slots (cause we are full on province modifiers already). We went from 9/10 modifiers increasing our chances for them happening to 8/10. Medium Time To Happen for holding slot went from happening every ~25 to almost ~28 years. From What's worse recovering Diligent will be tricky - we can try to high roll it on Scholarship or we pick Rulership (something I would very much like but this is pure Casino with results). We also could use Hermetic power from final level but I don't remember right now if this will be possible with non-Learning lifestyle trait. Even then it will stake us some time before we can access it - time that could be spent on rolling for holding slots with better %. Yes we will get that Architect when we will be again on 9/10 modifiers but it could be 10/10.

Year 1316
======================

Damn this Civil war really wasn't my best attempt at CK2. Because single rebel holdings generates more warscore than few of ours and for whatever reason they don't have to keep holding them. It is enough for them to just take them to generate 8-9% warscore when ours slowly trickle up progress ise resetted =.= So 4th year of this civil war rages on. Despite me beating them plenty of times already - not wanting to siege them really makes this painful. Our new Italian kids that was destined to be commander, turns really bad so I don't decide to appoint him into leadership position. We don't have anyone else in the making too so this will be tough in coming years.

By February we manage to take the warscore up to 98% warscore but then they take single holding and we are down to 87%... We keep assassinating Mordva count to replace Minor Viceroy there (we just inherited). So I start besiegeing Duchy of Tarbagatai (because he keeps raising troops to siege our cities when we are about to win the game and then disperses them as we come back) with troops that came back..

Rebels again replenished up to 15.000 in south-western Cumania and try to push us but we have 27.000 troops ideally timed to join the battle.
eRtEzBc.jpeg

Last last battle? Please... Have enough of this nonsense!

We can't lose this. So with great interest we watch as our last capable commanders fight on. Not losing more of them would be great. Skirmish goes well, giving us advantage for entering next phase. Melee is chaotic as we get countered in center but deal with enemies nicely on right. Somehow despite that our losses aren't the worst among battles so far. Thus we get a win with plenty of extra warscore. Enough of it in fact to enforce demands on enemy. The civil war is over!
BqqxisH.jpeg

We first extract everything so our new appointed Viceroys and Counts under will not hate our guts.

Some time after - we finally revoke everything we can. And then some we can't. Leaving plenty of nobles in dungeon. Think we weren't able to revoke from Qazan Count as he inherited this war (I think this didn't made him traitor for legal reasons). We end up with 15 duchies and 21 holdings to our name. Now I have to redistribute it quickly or our pacified realm will assassinate us. So more administrative works begins. We keep generating Holy Men to let those Great Works that "Inspire Learning" shine. The difference is quite big. As normally I would keep generating characters with between 10 and 20 Learning right now we are almost exclusively getting 20-30 Learning characters. Then we import more than 9 women aged 45+ to marry our soon to be new Minor Viceroys. This way they won't get much (if any) offspring allowing us to inherit their county titles too. Few Geniuses are stockpiled for breeding pursposes and soon we fix quite a lot:
mqnUs6i.jpeg

Did mistake with Viceroy of Qazan but will start work on fixing it ASAP. Generally we just appointed a plenty of learned men to start technology research at astonishing rate for us. We more than doubled military and cultural technology acquisition rate (and got like +50% for economic category income).

This way we get rid of most of negative opinion modifiers. Not all of that. Can't risk another revocation for 5 more years so I'm holding some titles (Duchies) to prevent some multi counts from just recreating them again (requiring another revocation from us). We are stable right now but can't do much more. We still have quite a few multi counts. So there is still plenty of works to be done.
q51luPw.jpeg

The outcome of winning this huge and dangerous civil war. We basically eradicated most of inheritable ducal titles. Some of those new Viceroys like Tarbagatai or Permyakids in Yugra are to be replaced too and this is just temporarily done to make situation bearable.

After looking at end result I feel somewhat better about this whole ordeal. We did in those 5 years far more that we otherwise would with revocations every 5 years. Most of painful transition between Feudal and Imperial administration was basically done. Just one Feudal duke remains. More fixing some border gore is needed but we still have time and will do this when extracting missing Cities and Bishoprics. We weren't punished income wise as most of cities in rebel lands remained loyal, thus our flow of gold remained at roughly 80% of it's maximum side.

With year coming to an end we get good message from Hermetic Society leader:
xhVdPTj.jpeg

Oh yes. We really want this. Thank you very much. We are somewhat behind on making friends for our scientific hobby.

We instantly follow this by clicking "Laboratory construction" button. All the most expensive options (cause 50-100g is a joke for us at this point). Will have to rethink my approach to making friends (maybe invite some to Stargazing?), to make the most of any potential invention event chains. That is for the future as we reached the end of another part.

The one downside to making alliances with the Byzantines... (I know it's a risk every realm faces, but in my experience the AI Byzantines are particularly prone to ruler musical chairs)
