I'd like to test our PD as well.

We're likely to lose ships, of course... but only AWACS, AMM-PD and Gauss PD vessels are being placed at risk, and we're planning to replace ALL of them with shielded ships anyway.

They have to last us through this war and the potential war against the Bork.

After that, they would get retired as shielded versions come available anyway.

In the current situation I'm more concerned about the Bork than I am about the planetary dust level.
I thought once shipyards were gone they could kinda be left alone

We have already learned a lot from this war. We should not pass up this opportunity to test and learn from this upcoming confrontation. Let's see what they can do before we builc their replacements in case further changes prove necessary

That's one plan. Cripple them, then keep them under observation while we build an invasion army and drop-ships to invade with.

That would take a few years, and we would need to keep a close eye on them, and send a force to knock out each new shipyard as they build it.

Another plan is to end the war as quickly as possible, even if it wrecks their stuff.

What do people think?

Should we settle for just crippling the Modrons, and build up to try to take their world intact?

Or should we put them out of the game as soon as we can, even if it means losing some tech opportunities, so that we can focus on the Bork Menace?

Cripple.

It will take them years to rebuild the shipyards to useful size and then more years to build useful ships in useful numbers. No need to wreck their planet and their population, any Bork war wil be long done before they become a threat again.

And we get a lot more than mere tech. Factories, research facilities, ground unit training facilities, a lot of stuff we can use more of.

That's one vote for "cripple and capture intact".

I'll withhold my own vote for now.

Are there special ship classes to take someone "out of the game"? Do they have cool names?

Just any old missile boat will do fine.
But I don't know, nukes got cool names back in their day. "Minuteman", that sort of thing

We got intelligence on their Jump points (there's 2) Do we know if that is COMPLETE information? or did we only get that "there is another and it is here"
and possibly there could be others our prisoner DID NOT KNOW ABOUT?

I vote for not making a final decision on how to end this war with the Modrons yet. If the battle goes well, it light make sense to detach some of the most obsolete ships and fighters to form a garrision once the Modrons are crippled. If it goes badly, inflicting Armageddon may be more appropriate.

We won't need a garrison.. Just a stack of DST's on a nearby moon and if necessary a visit to blow up any new shipyards will be enough.

We don't know if there is another fleet out there down another path. We should finish what is on our plate before starting another. Jmo, ymmv

We could call them Terminator class.

Ouch, good point! For all we now, they may be fighting on the other side of their empire, too, and throw more fleets at us.

They don't have an empire.
They're a randomly generated NPR and our gsmr version is too old for them to spawn empires.
They spawned in with a single system.
Even if they have colonies elsewhere those can't build a fleet.

Could be, but unlikely. And if they are, that fleet will be using up it's missiles on that, not on us.

.. and there's this bit of truth.

If we have to decide now I vote to cripple, though I much rather win the current fight first before I decide how to proceed after the next fight.
