Any plans to scout in that Abomination system?

ESN Agent 99 shadows Red 11. ESN Spy 008 shadows Red 12. ESN Red Orchestra is checking the Comets for mining sites. Comet 1 is empty.

Any plans to scout in that Abomination system?

The jump point into the Abhorrent star system is almost certainly outposted with something that can kill a scout instantly.

The jump point into Mechanus was. The jump point into Phi Arietis was.

So... we are scouting intensively while waiting for enough Tugs to accumulate that we can attack their home planet with our Fortress.

A crazy idea, but it just might work.

A Geo-scout is approaching the Neutral Zone => Mechanus jump, and can take part in the scouting. Like the Agent class stealth AWACS, Geo-scouts carry probes.

The first two Tugs have arrived at the rendezvous. Thirty hours away, two more are approaching.

The rest - we need six or eight more - are further away, but none are coming from beyond the Harmony star system.

As an aside, there are some of our lifepods in that last picture from the Spy they shot. Can we pick those up soon or do we have plenty of time for that later?

We have time.

I'd rather pick them up with a civilian vessel since the life system overload will affect combat performance.

Just out of curiosity, what is the tonnage of our current earth shipyards?
The Military shipyards alone total over a million tons.

The Commercial yards add another 5.2 million.

If the Commercial yards are valued at one-tenth of their tonnage (which is typical) that gives us about 1.5 million tons.

Geo-scouts carry probes, so he can check out some locations that would be dangerous to approach, such as the moon systems of gas giant planets.

Meanwhile in the Neutral Zone (only one jump away from the Mechanus star system) the Tugs begin converging on the jump point.

One of them is towing another Chimera!

Found a Modron colony, on the fifth moon of the fifth planet.

It's obviously guarded by ground forces. At this range (over 13 million km) only the AWACS RADAR has made contact. We'll have to close in quite a bit before our cheap IKEA Thermal sensor can tell us what the ground forces are guarding.

We're deep in the gas giant's moon system, and we still see nothing on either Thermal or EM.

I don't want to approach any closer because we're only just outside gunnery range.

We'll need to send a Spy class to have a look with its big Thermal and EM arrays.

Man this is awesome. Took me 2 weeks to read through the whole thread. I'd love to command a ship my blue feathered overlord
What sort of ship?

We have Carriers, or Fighters, or AWACS, or Gunships, or point defense escort vessels, or Intel vessels...

Why would they detect as less massive than they are? Freighters sure don't..

Though the detection size of the Modron shipyards is pretty tiny in comparison, if they don't detect as smaller than their build tonnage something is off.

Also, this is why we should be able to win this war in the long term. The modron got generated with a lot of ships, but they do not necessarily gained the ability to outbuild us as well.

Welcome to the game. :D
And fully agreed. This game is ridiculously good.
Took me a few weeks to reread only about half of it not even that long ago..

Tactical:

At top center, the enemy Red 12 fleet (shadowed by our scout) approaches the jump to the Abhorrent star system. I have no idea whether they intend to blockade the jump point or pass through it. A billion km behind them, the enemy Red 11 fleet follows the same course... also shadowed by a scout.

I wish our Tugs would arrive. This is an excellent opportunity for a raid to wreck their shipyards, but our Combined Fleet can only make 6,700 kps (compared to the enemy 13,608 kps) and they could easily get back in time to intercept us and double-team us. So I want to bring the Fortress along, which means waiting for the Tugs.
