So about the sign up gimmick

If you really want to get colonists joining your crew might I suggest sharing your link with your friends on Facebook? I had several people that had no idea what this game was but I tickled their interest and my numbers grew !

Do they need to just click the link for it to work or do they need to sign up once opening it?

They need to sign up for a Paradox account (if they don't already have one that is) and subscribe to the newsletter. Totally worth it to be able to call oneself a Mars colonist !

I am of similar mind with Keynes2.0 in that I don't like social media platform that much. For a few reasons, but two of the biggest ones would be that I prefer face to face conversation or at least video chat due to physical distance. The second big reason would be privacy. After all you don't want everything about yourself on social media including but not limited to personal info that can be used for fraud/impersonate you etc...

Thankfully it seems that posting on forum with signature was enough to get 6 out of 8. Won't be long before I finish up.

I posted my link to my digital card group, which got about 8 hits immediately, and to my steam clan back in May. I eventually ended up on 32 colonists which was gross-overkill.

To repeat my earlier advice, spend some time creating a fancy 'advert' post for the game on whatever random sub-forum or clique group you most likely are a part of. The flashier it is, maybe with some nice embedded images, the more likely you will attract a neutral into signing up to Paradox. For example my TCG post below:
