So I was wandering around and found a EUII fo £2.50. At first it made me smile, but then I thought seriously about WHY don't I puchase it. Yes it was such a small amount and I migt aswell, but I needed my 3quid for the bus.

However, at home, I though to myself, should I get it? My reasoning for this is; I own EUIII, but amoung my annoyances, the lack of history wasmy biggest anger. France would always be a mega power, every nation in Europes owned parts of America. And Britain was a pathetic nation that never even got a chance to become powerful. Yes IN will fix gameplay isses, but historical ones will remain.

So, in EUII, does the history stan up well? Will I always expect to see the seven years war, american war of independance, Napoleon and every otehr historical event? Or is it more about random values and hoping that something vagually historical pops up?

Should I stick to EUIII or will EUII's features be better?

How well does it stand up to EUIII, will I enjoy it more (Large question ;), I would prefer History over annoying randomness, although do enjoy ahistorical, but on the scale of HOI eg; I win the war as Germany, WC as SU or make the UK the strongest again. But hate seeing Venice, Hesse and Poland owning more of America then Britain, or india left alone along with most of Asia)

'll probally get it anyway ;), but how quickly should I run out is what I want to know, should I just rob the shop now? Or wait until I've worn out IN?

Thank you.

(P.S; if you notice spelling or general grammer mistakes, I apologise, my keyboard i utterly broken whenit comes to writting.)

(P.P.S ^ I can see mistakes in that sentance, but it wn't letme change them  :( )

Edit: Wow, silly me, I must be tired. This hould be in the EUII genral thread. can it be moved please?

With EU3, you write your own History. With EU2, and especially AGCEEP (but this is not the only available mod), you play with History (or against it if you want). Two different philosophies.
Be aware historical events in EU2 (and even more with mods) will only happen if situation went not too far from History. Don't expect to see historical events always firing but expect to see countries trying to achieve their historical goals if they can (and your country in particular, of course) and historical events will then follow.

I agree with Yoda. Eu3 is more free, while Eu2 is rather scripted. If you want history, then take Eu2. ;)
AGCEEP is the largest mod for the original time 1419-1819. If you want earlier era, then you can take a look at some other mods.

Here is a list of most scenarios and mods done for Eu2 ;)

And here, a selection of mods to cover the most of history timeline:
Odyssean World Mod (1194 BC)
Roma Universalis (218 BC)
476 Scenario (476 AD)
Arabia Universalis (600 AD)
Imperium Francorum Universalis (750 AD)
AGCEEP (Alternative Grand Campaign - Event Exchange Project) (its own site) (1419-1819 AD)

EDIT:
Thanks, nitpicker :D

Nitpick: That's Alternative Grand Campaign. ;)

Gigalocus, by all means, get the EU2. It's much better for history. And it's a TON of fun to play. :)

The fact that EU2 still has a big fanbase should tell you that EU2 still entertains.

I would snap it up. Its a great game.

Ayeshteni

Purchased ;) Still won't be until tomorrow will I be able to play it :(.

Which country is it best to start with? Due to my knowledge of other Paradox games, can I choose pretty much any country and pretty much guess I know whats going on, or should I choose a mega pwoer for first game?

Is England an alright choice to start off with?

But start in 1492 not 1419. ;)
No, don't listen to such nonsense!

Start in 1419, secure your rightful inheritance that is the kingdom and crown of France, and then do what you must to defend your lands and uphold the rights and liberties of your citizens.

And then, to the New World! Huzzah! Huzzah! HUZZAH! :D :D :D

(but yes, a 1492 start is easier...)

Its better than Bohemia or Hungary ;)

At 2.50 you can't really go wrong but while EUII is a good game I'd still advise you to revise your expectations downwards. Having, like yourself, come to EUII after playing other Paradox offerings I found it to be very outdated, even when compared to the likes of Vicky and HoI

I have EU3 and even the NA expansion, and i only played them a couple of times.

Comparing EU3 with EU2, EU3 was a major disapointment. And tbh, once you start playing EU2 you wont need to go back to EU3. ;)

The aging was a concern for me, but I still prefer a historical game then seeing Asia left alone, Venice and genoa in Canada, France just a boring mega power controlling the enite map, and Austria just a white blob blured across Germany.

And I will start in 1419, and get the true king of France on the throne!

Actually, I recommend Portugal for your first game. Earliest explorers in the game, juicy Spanish countries right next door to conquer (who says that the inheritances should go SPAIN'S way?? :p ), and relatively isolated position that still allows for easy conquest of Europe if you decide to go that route.

Make sure to patch to 1.09 if the game isn't already at that level.

Promote your bailiffs to tax collectors on day 1. Else, you won't be getting much in the way of Census Tax on Jan. 1 of 1421. You won't be getting much on Jan. 1 of 1420 no matter what you do: keep that in mind. ;)

Oh, I have a question, do flags change ala Victoria? OR remain constant ala EUIII? Will revolutionary France, or Commonwealth England or Russia have the same flagas as vanilla states?

OR are they different nations entirely?

Thanks Gigalocus for starting this thread, I was actually wondering about buying EU2 too. Though I wish there was a demo or something before I head into my room and dump out my piggy bank. :D

Flags most certainly do change. :)

The AGCEEP in particular has several flagchange events. I suggest you checkout the English ones if that's what interests you, as I added/amended many of them. :D

And where do I check out these flags? Must I wait until tomorrow and play every possible event to see them all?

Huzzah! <-- :D

Download the 1.56 Deluxe version, and all the additional downloads below.

It's the best mod for a Paradox game to date, so I do hope you appreciate it. ;)
