Hi everybody.

I was having a speed problem playing hoi2 and i found a way to drastically improve the running speed of the game.

CLEAN YOUR CPU FAN.

Enough said, changed the world for me !

When your CPU overheats, it cycles down so it runs slower but not as hot.

If cleaning your cpu fan causes a significant drop in temperature on the cpu you should be looking into getting a new fan or getting more general ventilation into your pc. Either way it does not sound good for your PC.....

Basically motherboards are designed to auto cycle down the CPU when the core temperature reaches a critical level -- if this is what happened to you then you have serious problems with your pc (maybe you have a high heat generating Video card near the CPU......)

Good luck my friend

A ram disk is a program that simulated a diskdrive in memory.
Basically it copies all the files from the Hard disk into main memory.
This earns you a much faster transfer speed.

They do tend to run hotter.

well, a friend of mine has a AMD 1700+ with 512 RAm and a 3d card of 128 megabytes, it takes him 7'' to pass a day at the fastest speed.

I've recentyl had the opportunity to buy the game (as a friend I know is working abroad) but I don't know if it's worth it to play it if it takes this long for a day to pass...

Well you own the game how long does it take on your system.

And 7 inches for a day. :)

I assume you mean 7 minutes, the answer is something is wrong with his system if it is taking 7 minutes for 1 day. ;)

I don't know what speed he is playing at, It should not take that long on faster speeds.

What exactly is the problem here?

7 Seconds for 24 game turns doesn't seem all that much to me.

ok, just wanted to be sure it wasn't a game problem.

Considering that HOI 1 it took only half of that... I'll have to be patient I guess.

Let me know how it goes on your system.

Could I get a little bit more info on that ram disk setup? Also any type of URLs or such where I could analyze if this is a worthy investment. Thanks, guys.

Yup.

7 seconds a day, with the same specifications.

I've tried turning off every other program (Norton anti-virus, disconnected from the internet, etc.) but still, 7 seconds a day.
Also tried to run it on Safe Mode, but the game wouldn't start.

Nothing to buy, just setup.

Well, both titles can't really be compared this way. ;)

Hoi 2 has a vastly improved AI when compared to hoi 1. Unfortunately, improvements in AI invariably come at the expense of CPU cycles, which means it takes more CPU time to come to a decision. This in turn will slow down the game's pace if you take out the artificially inserted turn-to-turn wait time (which you do if you let it run at the fastest speed setting).

If you run it at normal speed (it's called normal for a reason ;)) then you will notice hardly any speed difference between hoi 1 and hoi 2.
