I just got my hearts of iron 2 game on sunday. well I meet all the RECOMMENDED requirements. and surpass most of them exept ram I meet that exactally at 512. well when I turn the speed up to extremly fast. It dosent go extemly fast. It gose at the the same speed as fast and very fast. so fast , very fast , and extremly fast are all the same speed on my game. im trieing to figure out If this is a bug a hardware problem or my computer just is not fast enough. or mabey all three speeds or supposed to be about the same this I doubt.

Your system is simply too slow to produce a detectable difference between the 3 speed grades.

Hoi 2 is not like chess. It lets the internal algoritms for the AI continue to completions, regardless how much or little CPU time that tames. ;)

well I do meet all of the recomended reqirements I figured that I would have normal gameplay. because thats basically what reccomended means. I can see haveing this problem if i only meet the reqiured speed. but I dont I do meet the recommended. I figured I should of had normal gameplay. other wise they should change the reccomeded speed to an more accurate reqiured game play speed for normal gameplay.

"Recommended" requirements usually mean good performance, not maximum performance. "Minimum" usually means adequate performance but it will actually run with a less powerful system.

Have you looked at the FAQ jpd wrote in the Victoria Tech support forum. the one on slowdowns may have some good tips for you.

Everyone that owns a computer knows about renaming particular Paradox map gaphic files in order to get better performance, WOW! computer owners are very educated on the inner workings of Paradox game programming. ;)

Having such knowledge I can see why you definately would not need any help from this forum and consider it worthless. Perhaps we could call apon your expertise in the future, although I suppose we could just ask any computer owner. ;)

yes the fourm gose in depth on the percise inter workings of the paradox game programming. but what dose that mean to a normal preson. (not a computer programer or paradox game design tech personal. what it basically means is

The aperture holds overflow memory allocations from the video board in main physical RAM, in much the same way as the swap file from Windows holds overflow memory from physical RAM. This memory area is also known as the GART, and the GART driver for your chipset controls it. There is one, very nasty side effect of the GART. As the video card manages the contents of the GART RAM area at it's discretion, Windows cannot use this portion of physical RAM. Consider is permanently allocated for use by the video subsystem (aka card + driver). So, if you have 256 MB of physical RAM, and you have set the aperture in the BIOS to half of that, you actually have created a system for yourself with only 128 MB of usable RAM. Thus, reduce the aperture! Now, I hear you ask, is it wise to deviate from the recommended aperture size? The answer is simple: yes, at least for the purpose of our game. Our game doesn't use (a lot of) textures, and doesn't use 3D, so that memory reservation is a waste of resources. Furthermore, over the past couple of years, the amount of available video RAM has steadily increased. 128 MB is currently the default, and 256 MB cards are appearing as we speak. The cards have so much spare RAM now, that they no longer need the GART memory to overflow into. There is only one restriction here. For some unexplainable reason, Windows doesn't like an aperture size of less than 16 MB, and becomes in fact unstable. So set the aperture to 16 (or 32) MB, and you free up physical RAM for use by our game.

a bunch of Technical mombo jumbo that know normal person who is not a computer progamer can Possibly begin to understand. I am a normal person who dose not know the exeact way my computer works when i read something like that all I see is well that is right above this page this means nothing to me. now the small parts of this lengthy manual on how to re program your operating system that I understood I did do. like defraging and stuff. but as for the other 100 pages I did not bother to do more than just glance at it. and I might actually try to figure out what to do if it actually gave the instruction on how to do these things (which if done wrong can completely destroy your computer). but It gave no instructions on how to do any thing. it just said this is what you have to change now you figure out how to do it. I meet all the Recommended reqirements and i dont have no where near normal gameplay. when I buy a game WHEN ANY ONE BUYS A GAME and there computer meets not only the reqired but suprasses it and meets the reccomended. Reccomended which is what paradox actually reccomends for normal non laggy gameplay. NOT REQIRED BUT RECCOMENDED REQIREMENTS. then one would expect that the game play would be normal. am I right. one would not expect they would have to change there operating system to play it if they do meet the reccomneded reqirements.

am I right. I am pissed because I paid 39.99 for a game that I meet all reccomended Requirements not only do i meet them my computer greatly supasses all of them. and I can't play it. now if paradox actually put what was reqired for normal game i wouldent be mad I would say well they told me on the box what was Required and I just don't got it. oh well. but no if you ask me they lied. Im takeing It back screw this this is worthless

You contradict yourself.

First you say that the FAQ is just what anyone that owns a computer already knows, then you say it is too technical for you to understand. By that logic I can deduce that you do not own a computer since if you did you would know everything in that FAQ already. And since you do not own a computer how could you be having trouble with it?

Really, a life lesson for you, If you are asking for help being an Arse is really is not the best way to get it.

Come back when you grow up and are serious about getting help.

Read the second last line a few more times. ;)

And since you did not take the hint, I will help you. ;)

Lot of talks things allocates about memory here.. one think drawn back too W95 getting deep duddu wat drives allocate

Allt hough i have cpu above 3 MHz, and 1 GB RAM i found later in game speed above normal is a jagged speed above normal, but normal or above normal is fine with me at that stage

so i can imagine those equ with less lose speed earlier - shouldn't the game be scaleable.. like if u have this x ram option is to run with this number of units or whatever takes power?

hmm perhaps it is scaleable.. if u choose hard level (less IC for all nations -> less units on map) u able to run faster?

as one says.. mina två ören

Depends how you set up your system as well.

Although they have 512 MB as recommended memory, I found I needed 1024 MB before the game ran as smoothly as I wished. I also have a 256 MB graphics card and have no crashes/freezes so I highly doubt it's an AGP bus problem. If you notice, all the advice they are giving is how to turn everything off on your computer so that it will minimumly run the game with their recommended requirements. They have done this since they came out with HOI 1. Double their recommendations and you will be fine. Business is Business. If they said on the box you needed a 3 ghz processor, 1 GB physical memory, and a 256 MB graphics card most people wouldn't buy the game as their system wouldn't support it. Upgrade your memory. It's worth it, as this is a fine game if you have the power to run it.

Prob. not the best thread to revive.
