In the 'Mod Status' thread it seems to be pretty much decided that there won't be any Secret Weapons in 1914.

That's OK w/me, but I wonder, then, if there has been any consideration for using this as an opportunity to develop 'miscellaneous' techs?

You're going to have an empty tech page, waiting to be filled with tech goodness!

In TGW there were the Home Front techs - maybe the empty page could be used for something similar? Or additional balloon/gas/tank techs?

The possibilities are endless! :D

I think the gas weapons were the real secret weapons of ww1.In german we call the secret weapons of ww2(rockets) Wunderwaffen(wonder weapons)and gas weapons are the wonder weapons of ww1.

Yeah, make gas weapons as secret weapons. I think there are few types of poison gas. Perhaps look into how to create these poison gas then add these to the secret weapon tree? So, a player would have to research few things before create a gas weapon? Just an idea.

Another secret weapon would be gas mask? I don't know if it's really a secret. ;)

Two separate ways in the secret weapons tree,if possible.The one for gas weapons,the other for anti-gas-measures,´but i dont know what anti-gas-measures do ingame.Maybe a higher org,or defense?
 
As a matter of fact, I think I posted the gas components some distance back in this thread. However, most military innovations are 'secret' when first developed, so is there really a need for secret weapons? IIRC, it is possible to have events trigger techs anywhere in the tech tree, not just the secret weapons tree. Besides, tanks and gas alone doesn´t really make a tech tree...
 
Plus marines, parachute units, aircraft-carrying Zeppelins...

I think the idea behind 'Secret Weapons' is things that were only developed late in the period by one or two countries, rather than a tachnology generally adopted by everyone.
 
I'd be more for changing the secret weapons category for an advanced or futuristic category. Basically have a tech that is beyond the 1924 timframe (say a 1930s version of a tech, say for example a monowing fighter).

Yes, the mightn't be a bad idea. :) People are concentrating on the word 'secret' to a very great degree, when we are really grasping at those technologies which are considered to be very advanced and innovative in their nature, more so than anything else in the technology tree.

This is where we can introduce our equivalents of HOI's renowned nuclear battleships - nerve agents, heavy calibre tank guns and any other far fetched weaponry that would only stand a small chance of being researched in our time frame. :)
 
How about these huge howitzers used by Germans to destroy Belgian forts? Krupp 420mm howitzers and some 305mm howitzers loaned by Austrians? Will these be included in secret weapon tree, even though they aren't secret, but are unique weapons? They can be used as a brigade, but very expensive to produce, and only move very slow, but carry a powerful punch.

That would mean having only two levels of gas in the doctrines tree, since there weren´t many gases in use during WWI, yet it could be done.
Perhaps we could have a turreted tank aswell? (so the french renault is a sucessful researching of a secret weapons tech)

What do you guys do with coal? How will it be implemented in this mod? Will it be possible to identify which ships use coal and other ships use fuel, i.e. Queen Elizabeth class and submarines?

I think that it shall have to be renamed to 'Fuel Resources', and large amounts of it additionally placed in Wales, Yorkshire, the Appalachian Mountains and the Ruhr, amongst others. :)
