Karelian - I doubt the TE20 will achieve 100% utter domination of the tractor world, it's not that good. ;)

Historically Morris Motors ltd started to produce Nuffields in the first post-war years when the country was short on cash and there was a huge demand for new tractors since the old Dagenham-produced Fords that were the prevailing tractor type of 1930s and war era were used up. Without such a situation I highly doubt they would have gained the market success they did in OTL.

Pippy, you truly are a master. I would not have thought it possible to capture my interest with a post about tractors, but interested I was. Thanks for the education.

They said Let there be tractors...

... and there were tractors ...

... and it was good. :)

Wow, only 1 Spanish update and 2 tractors. Makes coming second seem worthwhile.

And thus did the steel beasts
In fecund England's field
Plough tirelessly the soil
To sow an Empire's yield

I did it for the challenge of a tractor update as much as anything else, I'm a sucker for an update challenge.

And for musical accompaniment.

A ballot of equals he offered
But the winner was foretold
What Spain won at the box
He gave to tractors twofold

Consider this, Sir, a formal protest!

Spain and a democratic vote.

Dury, you should have known this was never going to end well.

On a side note, I find the British Prime Minister debate to be very interesting.

You're right, El Pip. I can't make up my mind which side is less deserving of my blood, sweat, and tears.

Must be the toffy Cameron that murders trade unionists. But which of the candidates murders nuns? I mean that level of ruthlessness has got to be worth voting for. Is it the grinning Cleggie or the dismal Brown?

Damn, I've already voted.

trekaddict - Thought you'd be pleased.

Nathan Madien - Being terse is often over rated, a good burst of loquaciousness can be a tonic to the soul.

Ciryandor - I don't think Aston even got to Ferrari level volumes, and I don't think anyone would call Ferrari a 'workhorse' brand.

Karelian - You are assuming Ford doesn't just abandon the tractor biz completely in the next few years, a dangerous assumption. ;)

Vann the Red - Thanks for the comment, just the reaction I was hoping for!

merrick - And yay, following the tractors came much Beef. And the people wondered if the author could pull of the same trick twice. And so did the author.

Davout - Strictly speaking 1 tractor and 1 beef, there is a subtle difference.

Duritz - As Davout says, this has been just as democratic as the elections the Spanish Republicans ran in '36. :p

rr99 - I hope your right, as someone who actually has to work on the railways and underground I would be delighted to see Bob Crow hanging from a gibbet. And I imagine the country's rail and tube commuters would agree with that marvellous policy :D

KaiserMuffin - As the only realistic alternative to Dave is the return of Brown I desperately, desperately hope you do have to riot. Right now I'd take almost anyone instead of that lying, incompetent, two-faced, murdering turd.

Good things there a group of you, I know riot policeman always like to give crusties a good kicking now and then. :D

And if you genuinely want Gordon Brown back then you deserve a damned good thrashing.

Nah, its just the tories we hate... :D
Fair enough I'm not exactly keen on them myself, but preferring the Labour party? Here's the voting record of my local Labour MP from here

# Voted very strongly for the Iraq war.
# Voted very strongly against an investigation into the Iraq war.
# Voted strongly for Labour's anti-terrorism laws.
# Voted strongly for introducing student top-up fees.
# Voted strongly for introducing ID cards.
# Voted strongly against a transparent Parliament.
# Voted very strongly for allowing ministers to intervene in inquests.

And the killer line " Never rebels against their party in this parliament."

How the f*ck can anyone look at that and think "Yes I want more of the Labour party"

Here's a terrifying thought - if Broon steps down tomorrow and there is no clear result then our caretaker PM is...

Harriet Harman. The most dangerous type of obsessively feminist, control-freak New Labour drone imaginable. I could actually cry at the thought of her finger hovering over the big red button. Presumably some sort of pre-emptive nuclear strike against all men will be launched. Pippy old chap, I am with you...

Since this thead is going off topic anyway, I'll just say Nick Clegg seems like a nice chap. Maybe that's because he speaks fluent Dutch, but he's in a unique position between tories and labour. Since it seems possible neither will get the majority to rule, one will have to make a coalition and the liberals are in the ideal position of kingmakers. Coincidentally, Dutch politics are always coalition governments, so that might just help Nick understand the situation he will find himself in. I'd probably give him my vote if I could. Since I can't, I'll just be rooting for him.

How ironic! UK '10 getting a little bit of Spain '36. Remember, there is nothing wrong with a hung parliament as long as it is well hung.

And I think you may be wrong, Le Jones. Shouldn't Harriet Jones become PM?

I love all this talk of British election politics. :D

On this side of the pond, the election decision I have to make this November is "Do I want to send Marco Rubio to Congress as a Florida Senator because he is an Republican? Or do I want to send Marco Rubio to Congress as a Florida Senator because I don't want to vote for Governor Charlie Crist (former Republican, now Independent, also running for the Senate)?"
