Jalex - The fightback to the fightback begins! Again! :D

Lord Strange - I don't see foreign policy influencing the (in game) electorate, so the explanation is probably that Landon was a fairly lazy campaigner while 'Iron Man' Barkley was an unstoppable speech making machine. So when Landon can be arsed to speak he gets the lead (because objectively the Democrats really should lose after the debacle of Al Smith), then when he gets lazy again Hull and 'Iron Man' re-take the lead through shear hard graft.

Of course one could ask the in thread electorate, but I dread to think what the answers would be! :D

Right confession time, the next update is proving a right mare. Mainly because I've written most of an update that, in all honesty, is a complete detour I've put in just because I can. The best course of action is to re-start from scratch but I've been putting it off because I can't bear to delete all the work. Still I've bitten the bullet now so I hope to have something this weekend.

So, out of curiosity, I assume this election will continue until the Republicans win?

As we said, Florida 2000 rules. :p

Despite some dissatisfaction with where the Marvel-verse is going ATM, I express my support for Iron Man. ( this is not to be counted as a vote as I already voted so recently )

Pwn*Star - Perhaps it wasn't a bug in the game, just a subliminal warning about the coming forum 'upgrade'. ;)

Vote duly noted.

Faeelin - Hush you cynical mouth! The election continues till I get around to the next US update, I'll announce the formal closing date when that looks likely.

The current update schedule is four UK updates (one general, the one for each service), a big 'event' update then the US election result. At current speed that means the polls closing sometime in early January. Ish.

trekaddict - Indeed!

Now of course if one side is clearly in the lead they'll win, if it's close then the time honoured US traditions of taking everything to the courts and back room deals will be employed.

You might like the fact that the next Invincible Iron-Man arc is called "Iron-Man: World's Most Wanted."...

When I look and I find, I still love you!

Vote Republican! Landon for Victory!
California

TheExecuter

P.S. For the record, Faelin and Trekaddict...it was the Democrats who launched the legal battle to keep re-counting ballots in Florida in 2000, not the Republicans. That is seeming to become a tradition here in American politics among members of the Democratic Party...in case you don't win, contest the election until enough ballots have been 'found' to make sure you've won. See recent Washington State and Minnesota elections...

Of course, but we have too much fun teasing you about that election. :D

Although outright victory is unlikely for Garner, hopefully a enough votes will comes his way so he can act as a deal broker when the time comes to decide. Sort of what Wallace was probably hoping to do '68.

Oh, and remember to vote for Garner, he'll keep your state safe!

I'm not entirely sure how the US system works when a candidate doesn't secure the Electoral College points (am I even right here?) needed for victory. Anyone care to explain it to me?

Pursuant to the Twelfth Amendment, the House of Representatives is required to go into session immediately to vote for President if no candidate for President receives a majority of the electoral votes (since 1964, 270 of the 538 electoral votes).

In this event, the House of Representatives is limited to choosing from among the three candidates who received the most electoral votes. Each state delegation votes en bloc - its members have a single vote collectively (and the District of Columbia does not receive a vote). A candidate must receive an absolute majority of state delegation votes (currently 26) in order for that candidate to become the President-elect. Additionally, delegations from at least two-thirds of all the states must be present for voting to take place. The House continues balloting until it elects a President.

The House of Representatives has chosen the President only twice: once under Article II, Section 1, Clause 3 (in 1801) and once under the Twelfth Amendment (in 1825).

FYI -- The 12th Amendment to the Constitution
The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and all persons voted for as Vice-President and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate.

The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted.

The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March* next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President.

The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

*This has been modified by the 20th amendment to coincide with today's inauguration date of 20 January.
