PART THREE

WP with Papal State. I wanted to vassalize them but somehow they also own Bremen... The Venetian islands are taken one by one. Rebels everywhere, and i kill the great Turenne!!!!11!

17.JPG

With Magyar converted, no more Reformed in Hungary. So i re-adjust the sliders. Modena is annexed.

18.JPG

France gives up a Swiss province, and the assault on the islands continues. Finally i get offensive 9. Why didnt the others before do it? Land nations MUST rely on the troops' shock, especially at the beginning of the game. A refinery building in Firenze.

19.JPG

Venice is vassalized and becomes my ally. An even better monarch comes along. England shares maps, so i can finallly trade in North America.

20.JPG

Porto embargos me. This is a CB. I hope the next player will take a few COTs from them. Trade tech increases.

21.JPG

Venice is diploannexed!

22.JPG

Poland embargos me, another CB. 2 manus building in the Balkans. I have quadrupled the income! More that quadrupled, actually... :D

17 Gained provs: Thrace, Macedonia, Dobrudja, Bujak, Napoli, Apulia, Marche, Firenze, Emilia, Romagna, Swiss, Veneto, Ionia, Corfu, Rhodes, Crete, Cyprus.

Great work, please give us a political screenshot. Nice that the OE never moved the capital to Thrace. I saw trade go down the drain during my reign. Basically money makes money, and I had little to throw around because of all the rebellions. Good to see you rectified that.

Excellent work. You've really put Hungary into a strong position.

thanks for the comments guys!

political map of Europe.

I attempted to colonize first in Africa, then in America, but natives always destroyed my TPs, so i gave up on that.

Now for some more techinical data:

Hungary has governors in every single province. Since Venice was annexed pretty late in my reign, in all ex-Venetian province a tax collector is being promoted. After that, LCs need to be promoted, but apart from these provs (Veneto, Corfu, Ionia, Rhodes, Crete and Cyprus) all are fully developed.

I expanded the fortresses when i had nothing to do with my money and there were no empty slots in COTs. so the fort situation now is: 14 minimal forts, 34 small forts, 5 medium forts.

In techs, the situation is:

LT 23
NT 6 :eek:o
stab +3
Trade 6
Infra 5

teching infra at the moment the game was suspended. (lvl 6 to be reached in Nov. 1676)

BB is 37.5/50

DPs are:

Aristo 8
Centra 8
Inno 3
Merc 9
Off 9
Land 10
Qual 10
Serf 5

I would probably go inno 2, to get the random conversion event, and more colonists. I would start colonizing.

Religion:

Anhalt Sachsen Erz Sudeten Ostmarch Ansbach Wurtemberg are protestant (7 provs)
Rhodes Thrace Bulgaria Bujac are orthodox (4 provs)
Macedonia Dobrudja are Muslim (2 provs)
the rest are Catholic.

Trade:

trade2mu.jpg

Red are COTs not discovered yet, Green are Monopolies.

Overall impresions:

Hungary is awesome, has highest income, LT, and trade efficiency in the world. Soon it will lead in infra, too. Naval tech needs to be expanded, and i overlooked it, at the expense of focusing on trade. I would vassalize Poland and fund it so they can convert the orthodox they still have, then annex them. As for long term plans, i am waiting for the next king. May he live long and prosper.

Awesome is a pretty good word. What a stupendous situation for your successor.

Sikafred’s reign 1669-1685

Young and hesitant he rose to the throne. A great nation his was, a great responsibility. The new king thought about how to make his own name great as he sat alone. His predecessor, truly a king that would be remembered forever, had vastly expanded the Hungarian domains and further expanding it could be seen as meer continuation. Such was the kings thoughts as he recalled something from looking at all the advisors maps. Many countries had holdings outside the European continent. To establish such holdings would surely bring more wealth and glory to an already powerful Hungary. With a smug smile he called for his advisors.

Africa had some unclaimed territories and Lougo was agreed upon to be first attempt at a colony. Sure its land was poor but the location made it a jumping point to more prosperous land in both Africa and America. A small fleet was built and some troops sent. In 1671 the first Hungarians settled there, news that the king was glad to hear. The colony grew to the city New Carpathia in 1675. A year later a small-scale diamond mine was opened in Leone and only 5 years later that province too held a city.

Hungary's first colony?

A small war
There was a lot of concern about all the trade embargoes against Hungary. Especially the french that embargoed a Hungarian monopoly in Montevideo. The king, with new found confidence from the success in Africa, gathered troops at the french border and launched an attack in spring 1682. That meant that much of Europe was at war with Hungary, Poland and Siena(?) on one side and France, Spain, Portugal, Berg and the small Papal State and Cologne. Hungary's army was big and well-drilled, the only thing that might cause problem was a lack of leadership (generals of course, not the king).

Europe at war 1682

The french border cities were besieged, as Albania that somehow was under Berg's rule. The Papal states to provinces were also quickly under siege. Spain's army was larger than expected and ran around plundering Hungarian towns and farms. Portugal and Cologne didn't really commit any troops to the war.

Spaniards running around

Peace was made with The Papal State, Spain and Portugal for a small amount of money in the first case and a colony each from the two latter. Berg was later forced to secede Albania and in the summer of 1684 the french also agreed to end the war giving up to provinces and a colony. Hungary was at peace once more.

Colonial Hungary 1685 (Songhai has the same color)

And that's my story thus far

You are so lucky you don't have to worry about badboy, you can be "hated throughout the world" and then when your about to get annexed the next ruler has to come to the throne  :D
It´s good to worry about BB. You know with you get 80 bb the bb wars will go to next king but you want the best for the game , don´t you? :)

Nice Work Sika~.... Seens Hungary being a colonial power!!!

And who would have thought it. Very interesting the way that early move has had its repercussions.

Sikafred's Reign 1685-1719

After the war with France most attention was turned once again towards Africa were existing colonies were developed and a couple of new ones founded. Nothing much was happening back in Europe or so the King thought. An older cousin got the military from the capitol behind him and all of a sudden Pest was besieged by 38 000 men. Royal troops advanced and attacked the siegers but to there disbelief they lost the battle and fled, another army was sent and they too were defeated. Finally a third army was sent and the rebels killed. The ambitious cousin was never seen and was presumed killed in the battle.

Another small war
Our alliance ended in 1696 and only Siena were invited back in. Poland having had embargoes against us was never a real ally anyway. That would have dire consequences for our neighbor as Hungary invaded Poland and its new ally Moldavia in 1704. Their armies were weak and not that numerous so victory was soon to follow.

War with Poland 1704

Moldavia, a poor mountain region, was vassalizied in 1705. Krakow also fell that year. Danzig was the last Polish city to surrender and peace was negotiated in 1707. Danzig was a rich trading city but in the end its location and protestant citizens made the king decide against taking it. Instead only two provinces became Hungarian, Silesia and Galizien. But Poland was forced into becoming vassals, so the king was pleased with the outcome of the war.

Colonial adventures
At the beginning of 1707 all troops got the ability to explore uncharted territory and some thousand men were immediately dispatched to the African inland. 1708 was in ever better year for the kings colonial
ambitions as a expeditions was being planned for the exploration of American lands. The expedition sailed from Firenze and arrived at Mobile were a colony was established in 1711. In 1718 Kongo was attacked, the African catholics had the audacity to call the king old and weary. Such behavior could not be tolerated so war was declared, this despite the fact that the Hungarian army was very small in Africa. The Kongolose army however was very poorly equipped. The declaration of war might have been a mistake made by an old and weary man as the king died on new years day 1719. Hopefully his successor could take advantage of Hungary's superiorly skilled army in the war against Kongo.

Colonies in Africa and America

That ends my part in the history of Hungary

A vassalised Poland is a very good thing.

Dr Bob's Reign of Mercantilist Policies 1719-1724

As Dr Bob finally was invested with ultimate power in Hungary he was pleasently surprised, trade was booming, production and taxes were pouring in, the Army was mighty advanced and powerful.
Poland was vassalised and had secured the northern border, the Ottoman empire was no threat on the east and the Med guarded our south. A most excellant country, even with a minor war against Kongo going on, the war was finished with Mayamba handed over the Hungary, not sure why Hungary wanted it but it was offered by the weak and fearful Kongolese.

However the only fly in the ointment of Hungary was the rather hostile trading position taken by: France, Spain, Portugal, England, Poland and Malacca, hostile as in shooting any Hungarian merchants they find.

This was unacceptable, and a daring plan was designed, to give free reign to Hungarian merchants by taking the CoT and butchering the enemy merchants.

And so Began the Merchant Wars

First off a fleet was constructed to allow colonial possessions to be taken, and to allow easy shipping of troops to enemy capitals for quick peace.

Finances were also reviewed, and found to be in good shape, although extra production and trade efficency is to be desired.

Armies were prepared on the French border, and against the evil French alliance, consisting of France, Spain, Cologne, Berg, The Pope and Hessen.

Commanding our armies was the Prince of Austria, 3-3-5, whose special cavarl charge should prove useful on the march to Paris.

As war was declared 3 armies were unleashed on France, of around 25,000 men each but expert in the arts of war, at least compared to their enemies. Franch Comte was unfortifed and fell easily and Piedmonte and Nivernais also fell to assualt, Dauphine soon after along with Champagne, the Prince of Austria then asualted the Spanish held centre of trade in Flanders taking it easily, as the long seige of the Large fort in Paris began.

An abortive attack was attempted on Madrid to speed along the war but fierce Franco-Spanish naval resisitance was encountered, and the fleet eventually moved back to Italy. (the fleet consists of 30 transports and 20 warships) showing the need for more warships and more investment in the Navy, soemthing ongoing in Hungary.

However Spain offered Flanders soon anyway, securing it for Hungarian merchants. Berg was conquered to allow a land route to Flanders, giving up Brabant and Luxembourg.

Meanwhile the Hungarian Navy proved its use, capturing the small centre of trade in Argentina from French militia. France now surrendered, losing Lorraine and the Argentinian CoT, and allowing free trade to the Ile de France.

Thus ended the first Merchant wars, but Dr Bob had his eyes on England and Portugal, he was only tempered by the mighty naval advantage England had. But that should not last, and there was always Malacca for the Hungarians to visit...

OOC: Just realised my trade value actually went down  , ahh well that will be rectified soon, must have ignored the merchants too much
