Has this been sorted yet? Would launch the game last week which was a waste of buying the game....
What problem do you have exactly? There are several different issues which are discussed in this thread. Does the launcher start for you? If the launcher starts, but the game doesn't start, try to start the imperator binary from the command line. That will probably tell you which library is missing on your system.

The launcher starts, but if i click PLAY it fails to start: Launching the game failed.
I don't know what 'start the imperator binary from the command line' means. If it means:
.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/ImperatorRome/binaries/imperator
I get the message: No such file or directory

If i do:
sudo find / -name imperator
i get:
.local/share/Steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/ImperatorRome/binaries/imperator
If i try:
.local/share/Steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/ImperatorRome/binaries/imperator
still get the message: No such file or directory

Right click on this game in Steam, manage, browser local files. That will show you where the game is installed in your machine. Navigate to that folder in a terminal session then into binaries, the Imperator executable will be there.

1. Open steam.
2. Open temrinal and type: ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/ImperatorRome/binaries/imperator

result:
[virtualfilesystem_physfs.cpp:756] Mounted Data: /xxx/xxx/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/ImperatorRome/clausewitz

[virtualfilesystem_physfs.cpp:756] Mounted Data: /xxx/xxx/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/ImperatorRome/jomini

Pretty sure that's a video problem. What is your video setup, card and driver please?
