I've got an issue that I've been trying to fix for 4 hours trying all kinds of different things. So, I'm on Windows 10 and I've bought the Royal Version on Steam. Every time I boot up the game from the launcher or from the executable, it shows up as a clear-see through window despite playing the title music and showing the cursour as the in-game one. As far as I can see, the game works fine aside from the fact there's no graphics, since I can still click on options in the menu (or at least that's what the sound suggests). I've checked if my computer met the requirenments and it did. I've messed with fullscreen and windowed, as well as the resolution, didn't work. I've restarted my computer several times, didn't work. I've re-installed the game, checked file compatibility, installed newest nvidia drivers. I've checked the forums and can't find anyone who's had the same problem. I'm out of ideas, and thanks for any help in advance.
I've attached a screenshot of how the game looks when it's open.
(For clarification, I'm currently on CK3's window and not tabbed out)

Having the same issue. Changing the display mode to windowed and resolution to 1024x768 makes the game visible. Can't get the game to work in fullscreen though.

Hoping for a fix soon, as it is now the window is so small making the game essentially unplayable.

Having the same issue. Timperator's workaround (display mode -> windowed | resolution -> 1024x768) does work for me in making the main menu finally visible (yay!), though the diminutive size renders the game unplayable given my monitor's higher native resolution.

I've tried adjusting some of the executable's properties (disable fullscreen optimizations | change high DPI settings) but nothing's worked so far. Fingers crossed for a quick fix.
 
I can only guess this is a video card or driver issue. Let's see if you all have anything in common.


DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK3/pdx_settings.txt
From your Documents/Paradox/CK3/logs/ folder, attach system.log .
 
I checked Timperator's solution as well, and it does work, and I even tried to change the resolution in in-game settings, but all it does is make the game fullscreen and freeze.
I'm gonna do what Andrew says as soon as possible.
 
Can confirm setting it windowed at 1024x768 also fixes the issue for me. Here's my text files.
I'm noticing all of us here have a laptop. One of the people in the bug forums with a similar problem was running a 970m, so another laptop. However, I also have a friend also with a 970m and running it just fine. One noticable difference is she is on Win 8.1. If needed, I can ask her for her texts as a comparison for a working laptop.

As xxTESTOSTERONExx mentioned 1280x768 windowed also works, which is somewhat of an improvment atleast. I also discovered something interesting. When running in fullscreen, screenshots taken with steam shows the game as if there were no problem.

So if you want to play on a full screen, you can set your computer display resolution to 1280x768.

Then you can start the game with display mode > full screen.


It's also interesting to note that we are all using an Acer desktop/laptop with Nvidia graphics.

That is indeed interesting. My friend who is playing the game has an ASUS laptop. It could very well be an issue with acer laptops in specific.
 
Yes, this seems to be happening on laptops with dual video systems only. ASUS and Acer seen so far, and apparently all with 2017 Intel video drivers.

I believe these days that on dual video machines, all video goes through the Intel first, then the nVidia or AMD.

Can you please check with the laptop vendor for an updated Intel video driver, or failing that intel themselves:

I don't believe this does anything, and I don't believe the issue at hand are necessarily the intel drivers. I checked up on whatever intel drivers I could download, the only thing not up to date was this "Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) User Interface and Driver for Intel® 7th/8th Generation Platforms." The 2017 are unfortunately the latest drivers... however, I do not believe they are the main culprit because disabling your nvidia graphics card lets the game run. Awfully, but it runs. And I'm positive the nvidia drivers are up to date. Acer does not not have any drivers to download that I do not already have downloaded and installed.
 
Good news, I've found a solution to the problem, if you have an acer atleast. I went to acer support and downloaded the Intel VGA driver that was listed for my device. When installing it told me that I already had a newer version installed. I installed this one instead, rebooted my computer, and just like that the game runs in all its fullscreen beauty.

Hopefully this works for you people too. If you don't have an acer perhaps you can find the equivalent for your manufacturer.

I'm pretty sure there are drivers for the Intel 630 later than 2017 ... if Acer don't have any did you try the Intel site I linked?

Yes, I went directly to intel and searched. Also did it via device and managers. I installed their driver detector et al and it reported back everything is updated.

Can we see a new dxdiag.txt from you please? To see exactly what you have now that works.
