Tribes of West Africa and Central Sahara

The thin black line is roughly where your map cuts off.

Central Sahara, the Garmantes and the Phazanians are people, Ghat and Ghadames are places (probably modern names). The Garamantes sit astride the two trade routes, more info on them here:http://www.livius.org/ga-gh/garamantes/garamantes.html

Along the Med coast are the three main tribes know best the Mauri, Massaesyli and the Massyli. Inland from them are the three Gaetulian tribes the Autololes, Nesimi and Baniurae. Deeper in the desert are the Nigratae. The Pharusii are smilar to them but close to the Atlantic Coast.

Hanno's exploration of the coast is marked, via colonies, six in the north and lonely Cerne in the south (all locations subject to debate). The Lixites are a people that were friendly to Hanno.

When Carthaginian power waned the Pharusii and Nigritae are said to have destroyed the colonies on the Atlanic Coast.

Likewise with the weakening of the Numidian tribes and Mauri along the Med coast, the Gaetuli were able to move and extend their territory.

Awesome work guys!

And work on the rivers is actually halted, since I realized we need to finalize the terrain first before we actually start working on rivers. :p

I got a little bit ahead of myself there! hehehe

Edit:

My understanding from the wiki page about the Netherlands is that the Friesland Islands need to be enlarged and either merged (with rivers connecting to the Zuiderzee) to the mainland or with a very narrow channel of ocean separating them.

Would everyone agree with this assessment?

I don't want to offend any Dutch by mangling their ancient homeland... ;)

Interesting reading (watching) so far. It's good to see you're coming along so well. :)

I was honestly hoping someone would volunteer to start screwing with the map themselves. :p

Have I even uploaded the latest full map with tilt?!

Edit: The latest map has been uploaded!

Download it for yourself and check it out!

And feel free to start editing it if you so desire! :p

This defintely looks interesting. I don't think I'll be much help, especially not with the modding, but I'll see what resources I can dig up. :)

Great! Anything that might indicate land features of the time, or the paths of rivers, or just an all around map with locations of various tribes and states would be helpful.

this is possible..? wow.

It's possible, not sure how big of a map I can actually make work with EU:Rome, but I figured we may as well start with the highest resolution possible, and if necessary we can scale it down from there until it works.

currently I am pretty amazed at how unlaggy or fast the game goes while using Lofmans mod for example.

with something like this.. you believe it will still run pretty smooth?

On a high-end comp maybe. :D

I'm hoping to add as many tribes as I possibly can just to keep things interesting.

Greece, Gaul, Germania, and Iberia will be completely different when this is done. :)

This looks fantastic. What kind of resources are you still looking for?

Pretty much anything.

If it lists cities, states, or tribes from the Persian Wars to about the time of Trajan, or if it shows how the terrain and rivers looked at that time, I can use it. :)

You seem to have a lot of good map resources. Is there anything you've found you don't have enough information for? I'd really like to help this project, but unfortunately I can only research/code.

I managed to extend the map boundaries to 3000x2000 px, without causing a crash. I think it can be made even bigger, but I have no idea how much bigger.

Only odd thing is the fog wich covers the whole map, don't know wich file that is just yet.

Vanin,

I think it is colormap_water.dds which does the "fog".

I dont understand a lot of it but you might find this thread useful:http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=356836

I've checked that one before, and can't say I understand much either, modding the map in Rome is like trying to find your way through a maze.

Anyone know the limit of how much you can extend the map? I figured that I'd post it here as extending the map would be in the interest of the Map Project; can't see it encompassing all of India with just a length of slightly below 2000 px.

Great work guys, this bodes well for the project if we can keep pushing the limits of how large a map we can create!

I'm going to dedicate an entire week to working on the map to get all of the coastlines and important features in good order.
