I will definitely make sure there's a good epilogue. Honestly, it's not that I've lost interest in the story -- it's the limitations of Stellaris that are seeing me slowly burn out on this project.

That's fair. It's a good game, but I'm waiting for a few more big patches and expansions before I dive back into the game.

I have noticed that, the governments, unless you mod the game, are highly restrictive at this point. Also the ethics are, for lack of a better word, too rigid. They definitely need to fix those issues.

True...they need a few more patches or expansions to make the game more interesting.

It's true -- the story still interests me, but the game is running out of things for me to do besides just painting the map... Which is not fun.

In any event, an update will be out this week! And my Spain CKII AAR is picking up steam.

Well hooked into both Red ;)

Been reading this in bits and pieces during my breaks at work. Glad to see the ENC has brought humanity strength and prosperity among the stars. I look forward to seeing an undoubtedly exciting conclusion.

Keep up the good work! :)

Thanks! Update is coming soon, as soon as I find enough time to sit down and write it :)

A Unified Force for "Good"
2385 - 2400 AD: The New-Look ENC

A New Order and a New Mission

The Unbidden never reached the Galactic East, but the threat of their invasion had far-reaching implications in the government and future of the Earth Naval Coalition. As the election of 2390 AD neared, it was clear that a movement was brewing in Coalition politics. Civil and economic leaders mounting campaign efforts for the Presidency found their promises of demilitarization, trade, and diplomacy falling on increasingly deaf ears. Years of paranoia regarding the Unbidden had led to landslide elections of hawkish leadership on almost every Coalition planet, and the voices of militarized nations like Hindustan, Mali, Lombardia, and Byzantium became the loudest and most respected. As election day neared, one man became a clear favorite in the polls.

Jonathan Fowler was born on New Verona in the Alpha Centauri system, and studied at the central military academy aboard ENC Headquarters orbiting the Earth. Tactically and philosophically, Fowler was an army man; he excelled in ground-combat tactics, and drew extensive theories about effective fortification and military policing tactics. He was regarded as a bit of a hothead and with too much of an authoritarian leaning for the comfort of his instructors, making him an unlikely choice for a high command post. Those characteristics, however, became more desirable as the culture of Earth and the ENC became more militarized, and Fowler's contacts within the military community gave him a loud voice in the campaign leading up to the 2390 election. Fowler's platform called for a reform of the ENC's governing structure with an eye toward military hierarchy and strong centralized government. Like the Celimy before them, the ENC would morph into a highly militarized democratic government who would aggressively promote the ideals of liberty through interventionism and force.

Fowler won the election of 2390 by a historic margin, and was sworn in as President -- a title he held for just one day. In an overnight meeting of the ENC legislative assembly, Fowler dissolved the existing Coalition government and declared himself Lord Protector, creating a new parliament; this one held military service and a rank of Captain or higher for participation. The seat of the government was on board ENC Headquarters, and it became the sole locus of governmental power in the Coalition. As Lord Protector, Fowler claimed that it was his primary responsibility to safeguard the freedom of the Coalition and spread the enlightened rule of democracy through the stars, with the aid of their Celimy and Otagan allies. A new era had dawned for the ENC.

To the south of the ENC's borders, Adrimga -- CEO of the Genoggian United Holdings -- did not respond well to this militaristic turn in his people's former ally. Adrimga went so far as to claim that Fowler's election had been fraudulent, and that the Coalition, which had once been a beacon of galactic freedom, had become a menace that required galactic cooperation to destroy. Lord Protector Fowler highly publicized Adrimga's rhetoric, framing the Genoggians as just one more enemy of the superior and enlightened government of the ENC; it was they who needed to be liberated from their reckless and exploitive government. Where the Genoggians were once close friends of the Human government of the ENC, they were now considered a bitter enemy.

President Maluggreb, leader of the Confederacy of Karabon, made a desperate attempt to appeal to Fowler and Adrimga, and made several attempts to bring the two leaders into talks hosted at his capital on the planet Karab. Neither one responded favorably, insisting that the other was an evil too great to be ignored. As Maluggreb pleaded for peace with his nation's current ally and former close friend, Lord Protector Fowler called up his army for war; Genoggia was no friend of Earth's, and it had to be made to pay for its saber-rattling against the greatest democracy in the galactic northeast.

Despite their small size, the Genoggians had developed an impressive array of military technology, and the pride of their core defense was the mighty Nahslov-class space fortress. Situated north of Genoggia, the Nahslov was situated within the asteroid belt that ringed the Genox system's sun, which afforded it an advantageous defensive position. Its powerful subspace snares drew the joint FDS fleet into the asteroid field upon their entry into the system, drawing them into close range where its array of missiles, plasma throwers, and cannons could bombard the attackers with a heavy barrage of firepower. The first great battle of the war saw the Celimy, Otaga, and Coalition fleets engaged in a furious close-quarters melee with the great space station, fighting a costly battle for control of local space. Several ENC cruisers and destroyers were felled in the battle, but the overwhelming size of the attacking fleet proved decisive. After destroying several dozen attacking ships, the Nahslov was destroyed by an onslaught of powerful weaponry, and Genoggia lay bare before the attacking fleet.

Lord Protector Fowler claimed the Genoggian homeworld as the Coalition's right to conquer, and dispatched a fleet of transports filled with human and droid armies prepared to fight for control of the planet. Celimy reinforcements were staged in low orbit to replenish their losses, but they proved unnecessary. Thanks to the crushing orbital bombardment of the FDS warfleet, Fowler's invasion forces were able to make a successful landing on Genoggia's surface. The attack armies had a difficult fight through the dense tropical forests of Genoggia's surface, but they proved a match for Adrimga's most elite defenders and mercenary troops; three years after the declaration of war, the Genoggian capital fell to Earth Naval Coalition troops.

Despite the setback, Adrimga did not believe himself beaten; because he had hinged his defensive efforts on the Nahslov's power, his main warfleet had not been in the Genox system at the time of the Federation's assault. Those ships warped into the Genox system after the main invasion fleet's departure, ready to liberate their homeworld and mount a counterattack. There, they met a small Celimy fleet detachment commanded by Admiral Qovval uvi-Gallvav, no more than a small garrison fleet that paled in size before the main Genoggian armada. Admiral uvi-Gallvav waged a stalling skirmish against the Genoggian fleet, drawing them back toward Genoggia as he lost a significant portion of his ships. Only a small handful of vessels survived in the Admiral's fleet by the time ENC Admiral Nahell led the main warfleet back into the system for what was to be the final deciding battle in the war.

The Genoggian fleet was formidable, but against the united strength of the Earth Naval Coalition, Celimy Sovereignty, and Otaga Associated Planet-States, their defeat was secured. Pinned down by the FDS' overwhelming power, the Genoggian fleet was obliterated in its home system, waiting for Karabnar reinforcements that never came; President Maluggreb did not commit a single ship to the battle, and the war came to an end without his intervention.

As 2400 dawned, Lord Protector Fowler was re-elected to a second term overwhelmingly. The Earth Naval Coaliation and its closest ally, the Celimy Sovereignty, had clearly broadcasted their intentions with their ruthless conquest of Genoggian and Karabnar territory -- they were the chosen defenders of democracy in the galactic east, and anyone who would not recognize their supreme authority was on notice. The 25th century meant a new era, and it would not be a peaceful one.

Well, Lord Protector Fowler changed the game. It'll probably be a good time for humanity, but the 25th century will be a dark era for pretty much everyone else.

An ominous development there, what with the ENC's willingness to turn on a former ally like that and the sudden shift in political power within while an enigmatic foe from another dimension runs rampant in the galaxy... Babylon 5 parallels are suddenly coming to mind here.

Ah so the tried and tested tactics of the dictator-as old as Ancient Rome: I need to protect you...for life!

Ominous new direction for the ENC under this despot. I wonder how long the people will chafe under Fowler's yoke...

Definitely agree with Specialist on the B5 vibes. Now we just have to hope focus can be set on those extragalactical invaders...

Well when you're pinned in like that, there's not much to do but conquer your neighbours. Bring democracy to the galaxy!
