Would be nice if seasonal blocking was also possible as in RoP. So the passes would be the only way to cross in good weather and even passes would close in harsh weather...

Considering the time frame I think weather should play a huge role. Will be interesting to see.

Never got into AGEOD games but their maps where beautiful, beats the hell out of me why a 3D engine cannot make a Map that aims for the appearance of a 2D Map, a style that would be more appropriate for the period and would have a bit of Character.

Though the CKII map looks good it is bordering on the cartoonish and improving the appearance of its miniature trees and mountains is not going to add anything except to make it look like every other map, at some point I expect to see birds flying about the place.

On top of that I presume that instead of unit cards which really should be a option for EU3 there will be just giant line infantry slugging it out like Godzilla.

A pity really.

While the AGE maps are definitely beautiful, they always struck me as cluttered and over saturated (colorwise). I certainly prefer a more functional style.

In fairness the AGEOD maps can be a bit strong and the CKII map looks more then just good but Christ you would think that considering its history you would perhaps play with the idea of a 2D look in a 3D environment.

And I certainly think that unit cards should be looked as an option to the 3D models because I could see these working very well in other games like EU3 and people would love modifying them.

Will every map province be associated with a city in the said province or will there be "open" provinces that are just say fields or mountains?

Yes, plenty of open provinces... cities will not be everywhere, only the key ones, usually with fortresses, that can be real choke points...

Great I was hoping for this, thanks for the speedy response!

Sounds very good, and EU3 player-friendly, I think MP will deliver a lot ! I hope the map will have a lot of overseas territory, I like colonial wars, not always focus on european theatre games after games.

Might only be restricted to the off map pop up box from the teaser.

How are the cities going to be done in the game? Will there be population sizes and growth like EUIII and Vicky or more general stuff like you can see in the CKII demo?

The game is mostly about military aspects. So only major and important cities will be present, and the key factors will be fortress size, presence of depot and ports

Makes sense, more like HOI3 only different. :D

Hmm after downloading the demo I have changed my mind about the CKII map, God help those who liked the AGEOD maps.

Doies this mean you like CK2 map or that you don't ?

Sometimes I can be a little confusing but to clarify I don't like the CKII map as I tend to favour maps that look like maps rather then maps that look like a paper mache school project.

I can see from the files that the CKII map is more sophisticated with normal maps for the textures and such but judging from the NCI its going to have to be on a much larger scale.

I think as an experiment I will see if I can make the CKII map look vaguely like a AGEOD map.

Bah. Gameplay is the thing, the map needs to be clear ("Is the province I'm in Wood, or Hills?"), if it's pretty that's purely a bonus. Not something to spend too many resources on at the expense of gampeplay.

I agree game play is the thing but since the map is your introduction to the world and its your main access to the game play how it looks will be important.
